• I can't capture the output screen of a game tutorial

  Hello, I'm trying to do a screen capture with gtk-recordmydesktop and other capture tools but for some reason, it will not capture an output screen while its running. It captures one screen but doesn't show the rest. I can capture my screen running if I use my flip camcorder but recordmydesktop will not work. Is there a way to capture live video playing on the desktop without using an outside camera? Brian

• screen sharing not painting properly on client

  I cannot get the screen sharing utility in ubuntu 11.10 to work properly. When I connect, I get the initial screen, but no updates. When I connect to my ubuntu box via a laptop, I can see the mouse moving, but when I click on anything, the screen does not update. I can disconnect, reconnect and then see the updated screen, but it does not automatically refresh. Is anyone else having this problem? How do I fix it?

• Print screen key can no longer select a region to capture

  After upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10, I've noticed that the "Take Screenshot" application used to be launched when I'd hit print screen. Now it automatically captures the entire screen. In 11.04 it would pop up the "take screenshot" application which allows me to capture a rectangular region of the screen. Can this be reverted? I never want to capture the whole screen, only portions of it, which means manually cropping out that section in GIMP with this changed behaviour. Cheers.

• How to handle an AsyncTask during Screen Rotation?

  I read a lot on how to save my instance state or how to deal with my activity getting destroyed during screen rotation. There seem to be a lot of possibilities but I haven't figured out which one works best for retrieving results of an AsyncTask. I have some AsyncTasks that are simply started again and call the isFinishing() method of the activity and if the activity is finishing they wont update anything. The problem is that I have one Task that does a request to a web service that can fail or succeed and restarting the task would result in a financial loss for the user. How would you solve this? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the possible solutions?

Now the problem is, I have set into "Scale to Fill", then the image will be stretched in the full screen. Now i want to display the actual size of the image will be displayed in image view.   Hi, I created a CGRegisterScreenRefreshCallback(refreshCallback, NULL) and in the refreshCallback method get the list of rectangles which have changed. I am getting the rectangle data from frameBuffer using OpenGL glReadPixels. Is there a better way of screen capture either with/without opengl and also using OpenGL can I skip reading pixel by pixel ? I have looked at glGetTexImage and glCopyTexSubImage2D. Any simple code block which can explain how to use these functions to get the changed rectangle data would be very helpful ? Thanks, Raja.

  Im using the following code to adjust the brightness of the screen: public void SetBright(float value) { Window mywindow = getWindow(); WindowManager.LayoutParams lp = mywindow.getAttributes(); lp.screenBrightness = value; mywindow.setAttributes(lp); } But i want the brightness to be 0% for a specific time. But when i use SetBright(0.0f), i cant change it back. I made a timer that runs for a minute with 0% brightness, then turns it back to 100%. Works when i use 10% for example. But when i turn it to 0% i cant seem to wake it up again. Any ideas how to solve this?

  The other day I found myself addicted to a flash game and frustrated by the thing at the same time. In a moment of frustration with the game I thought I would make a 'bot' to beat it for me. Well, I really wouldn't, but it made me realize: I don't know how to interact with another application in a way to do this. Which brings me to the question, how would one take screenshots of another running application and interact with it with the keyboard and mouse. Ideally the solution would be in a managed language like c#. When doing the background reading the net was drowning with articles on scrapping HTML. There were not many articles on actually screen scrapping an application. Diverse answers are appreciated as I’m really looking at surveying what’s out there.

• App stays in splash screen in iOS 7.0.3

  Recently in iOS 7.0.3, my app stays in the splash screen and was not going into the app at all. If i kill the app, and launch it again it opens up without any issues. Can anyone help me on this issue?. I think the application -didFinishLaunchingWithOptions was not returning yes. Note: I have a lot of stuffs like deleting database, initializing a dozen of buttons in appdelegate's *init* function. I know that it is a bad practice to have things in init but since its been there for more than 4 years and was working fine with previous OS versions i didn't find a good reason to change it. Also this issue is not happening all the time. My app size is 40 MB. Thanks in advance...

• Remmina remote control: black screen after XBMC exit

  I have a HTPC (Quietpc Sidewinder Fanless media pc) running Ubuntu 12.04 and autostarting XBMC Frodo. I'm remote controlling this machine using my laptop also running Ubuntu 12.04 and using Remmina VNC as a client. Everything works perfectly as long as XBMC is running: I can see the remote screen and control via mouse and keyboard on the laptop. However, when XBMC is stopped on the HTPC, my TV shows the Ubuntu desktop normally, but the screen on the laptop turns black. I'm however still controlling the HTPC since I can see the arrow moving upon laptop mouse movement, and I can still type text in the HTPC. Oddly, when the screensaver on the HTPC kicks in, I again have a visual on the laptop. Anyone any thoughts on this? What should I do to maintain visual after stopping XBMC? Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks!

• Pendrive USB Ubuntu installation - black screen on boot

  I see many posts on this, but no solution. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my 16GB USB flash drive using this official link using their tool Universal USB Installer. Installation to USB went fine so I set my laptop to boot from USB and the Ubuntu was recognized. I saw the usual boot screen and I chose option "Run Ubuntu from this USB". The boot process started and after 5-6 seconds the screen goes black and non-responsive. I thought that it hang on X loading so I tried switching to console via Ctrl+Alt+F1-6 but the system did not respond. Why is this happening? Am I doing something wrong? PS. My laptop is HP Pavillion G6

• Second Monitor stays black/in power save mode

  I'm using two Monitors, a Belinea o.display 1 (Recognized as a Rogen Tech Distribution Inc 20" by Ubuntu, but working fine) on the DVI-Output (connected via DVI-to-VGA-adapter) as my primary Monitor and a Dell 19" (Recognized correctly) on the HDMI-output (via HDMI-to-DVI adapter) as secondary monitor. The graphics controller is a GeForce 9500 GS. I'm running a fully updated Ubuntu 13.04 with nouveau 1:1.0.7-0ubuntu1. The problem is that the second monitor (Dell) never seems to come out of standby during boot: the screen stays black and the status led on the monitor stays orange (it's green when it's on). It is correctly recognized an the size of the desktop is set accordingly, it just stays black. Changing any setting via xrandr/arandr/etc. does nothing. The on-screen-menu of the monitor reports it to be in power save mode. When using the proprietary NVIDIA-Drivers, the second monitor works just find. But these drivers cause a lot of other problems on my system, so i would really like to avoid them. On Ubuntu 12.10 i had found a workaround: When moving the relative position of the second monitor slightly down and the up again, it would turn on and function normally: xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --mode 1680x1050 --pos 1280x0 --rotate normal --output HDMI-1 --mode 1280x1024 --pos 0x88 --rotate normal sleep 2 xrandr --output DVI-I-1 --mode 1680x1050 --pos 1280x0 --rotate normal --output HDMI-1 --mode 1280x1024 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal This workaround stop working after the update to 13.04, and now i'm looking for a new solution. • Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - Black Screen at boot After changing Nvidia Driver

  2 days ego i updated my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to latest updates but i ignored Grub Updating because I thought it will clear my grub settings (I'm so noob!). After restart every things was right, the Ubuntu started normally and every things was working well except graphic which had problem before update. I had the experimental driver before but I changed it to the current-update version. After restart Ubuntu stock on black screen. I tried to reinstall Nvidia driver from recovery but it not worked. Then i used Update Grub in recovery, it not worked too but i see this line on screen at boot: at this time it stops and keyboard not working, but when I push the power button it shows these lines and it will shutdown. OK finally I made it start with older kernel (3.5.0-28-generic). Now how can I keep this kernel or fix Ubuntu to work with new kernel? Should I reinstall Nvidia driver? Which version should I use?

• Black screen with blinking cursor after dual boot install 14.04

  I have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my toshiba laptop along side Windows 7. When the menu comes up to choose which OS to boot into, I can easily boot into Windows 7. I cannot successfully boot into Ubuntu. All I get is a blinking cursor on a black/purple screen. I attempted the nomodeset trick, which was a bit more successful. I got a screen with a lot of code, but then it stopped with a blinking cursor at the bottom and wouldn't load anymore. As a last resort, would returning my laptop to factory settings get rid of linux and the partitions made to the drive? I already did this to my laptop when it was just windows, which is why I thought I might as well try to add Ubuntu. But it's a lengthy process, and if it won't get rid of the partitions and ubuntu, I won't bother. I appreciate any help ~many thanks

• HTML Agility Pack Screen Scraping XPATH isn't returning data

There seems to be a discrepancy between the XPATH that I'm seeing in Chrome Devtools as well as Firebug on Firefox and what my C# program is seeing.   I am running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox v3.6.2 and have an issue with Firefox causing the Blue Screen of Death. If I run in Windows safe mode, it does not occur, but running normally, it seems my firefox profile is going bad and results in certain web pages causing the BSOD. For example, presently, if I visit ebay.com, it gets BSOD. Before it was happening on google.com, but IT removed my Firefox profile and that seemed to fix the Google failure. However, now it has started occurring on ebay. I turned off all extensions and it still occurs. I'd like to fix my system so this does not occur. The IT folks don't seem to be able to solve this, so I am trying to fix it on my own. The BSOD is about something like (from memory) IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL. Why would safe mode avoid the issue and what does that tell us about the probable cause? I don't want to have to keep deleting my profile, so I'd like to find out the cause of the corruption.

  I'm a new user to GNU Screen. I've been using Bash for a very long time, and I want to give GNU Screen a try. As you know, GNU Screen uses 'C-a' (Control-A) as as the command character. Trouble is, this interferes with the Line Editing feature in Bash (and GNU Readline), because Control-A in Bash will Move to the start of the line." I know I can set the Command Character to another key sequence, like "^Q" or "``" (Backtick), but I have trouble finding another key sequence which isn't already in use (^Q is used by the terminal, backtick is used when writing shell scripts). It appears that the Command Character may only be one or two characters in length. Can I set the GNU Screen control character to be something like "Control-Shift-A"? (I can't use more then one hyperlink yet, so I cannot link to the Bash documentation)

I'm trying to make a role-playing game, and I want the game to work so that it transitions to the battle NIB for battles, then returns back to the map NIB afterward, yet still retain all the progress the player has made exploring the dungeon. I've tried proto-typing this with just a view-switcher, where one view creates content, and then switches to the other view, and then coming back from the other view. However, once the view goes back to the original, the original view is reset. How to make the data persistent so that it doesn't reset after every "battle"? Thanks!

  I got a new screen for a Dell Inspiron 1545. The old screen says Dell Inspiron 1545 LP156WH1 (TL)(C1?) HD and the new one says Dell Inspiron 1545 LP156WH1 (TL)(C1?) LCD Does that make a difference? All I can get to work on the new screen is the backlight. The old screen had a crack. Now when I plug the old one in, it will not turn on at all. Could I have blown the inverter or messed up the cable?
