  I cannot get the screen sharing utility in ubuntu 11.10 to work properly. When I connect, I get the initial screen, but no updates. When I connect to my ubuntu box via a laptop, I can see the mouse moving, but when I click on anything, the screen does not update. I can disconnect, reconnect and then see the updated screen, but it does not automatically refresh. Is anyone else having this problem? How do I fix it?

• Print screen key can no longer select a region to capture

  After upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10, I've noticed that the "Take Screenshot" application used to be launched when I'd hit print screen. Now it automatically captures the entire screen. In 11.04 it would pop up the "take screenshot" application which allows me to capture a rectangular region of the screen. Can this be reverted? I never want to capture the whole screen, only portions of it, which means manually cropping out that section in GIMP with this changed behaviour. Cheers.

• How to handle an AsyncTask during Screen Rotation?

  I read a lot on how to save my instance state or how to deal with my activity getting destroyed during screen rotation. There seem to be a lot of possibilities but I haven't figured out which one works best for retrieving results of an AsyncTask. I have some AsyncTasks that are simply started again and call the isFinishing() method of the activity and if the activity is finishing they wont update anything. The problem is that I have one Task that does a request to a web service that can fail or succeed and restarting the task would result in a financial loss for the user. How would you solve this? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the possible solutions?

  Hi, I am new to iphone development. I want to display the actual size of the image in image view. I have created image view by using Interface builder and set the properties. Now the problem is, I have set into "Scale to Fill", then the image will be stretched in the full screen. Now i want to display the actual size of the image will be displayed in image view. For example 52X52 size image should be displayed with the same size in the image view.The 1200X1020 size image should be fit to the size of the image view .So according the size of the image it should fit to image view and i want the image smaller than image view should retain its original size(It should not stretch to fit the image view).   Hi, I created a CGRegisterScreenRefreshCallback(refreshCallback, NULL) and in the refreshCallback method get the list of rectangles which have changed. I am getting the rectangle data from frameBuffer using OpenGL glReadPixels. Is there a better way of screen capture either with/without opengl and also using OpenGL can I skip reading pixel by pixel ? I have looked at glGetTexImage and glCopyTexSubImage2D. Any simple code block which can explain how to use these functions to get the changed rectangle data would be very helpful ? Thanks, Raja.

• How to start a process from another application and then open a terminal to that process in gnu scre

  I'd like to be able to launch a process from a GUI application (right now I'm thinking specifically of letting an eclipse user -- possibly via a plugin -- click a button to launch a build using my organization's build system). I don't want this process to stop when I stop the parent application, and I want to be able to "switch into it" later, as though I launched it from a command line. I've seen GNU screen described as good for most of what I'm asking for, but I'm not sure about the "launch the process from another application" part. Can this be done if the GUI application was itself launched from within screen? Can this be done if it wasn't? I'd be very interested in seeing how! Update: Prepending "screen" to a command line looks like a good way to start a process in screen from a shell, but I'm trying to find a way to do this without being taken straight into that session. I want to "send" the command to a screen session, where it will be started in a new window in that session.

  Im using the following code to adjust the brightness of the screen: public void SetBright(float value) { Window mywindow = getWindow(); WindowManager.LayoutParams lp = mywindow.getAttributes(); lp.screenBrightness = value; mywindow.setAttributes(lp); } But i want the brightness to be 0% for a specific time. But when i use SetBright(0.0f), i cant change it back. I made a timer that runs for a minute with 0% brightness, then turns it back to 100%. Works when i use 10% for example. But when i turn it to 0% i cant seem to wake it up again. Any ideas how to solve this?

  The other day I found myself addicted to a flash game and frustrated by the thing at the same time. In a moment of frustration with the game I thought I would make a 'bot' to beat it for me. Well, I really wouldn't, but it made me realize: I don't know how to interact with another application in a way to do this. Which brings me to the question, how would one take screenshots of another running application and interact with it with the keyboard and mouse. Ideally the solution would be in a managed language like c#. When doing the background reading the net was drowning with articles on scrapping HTML. There were not many articles on actually screen scrapping an application. Diverse answers are appreciated as I’m really looking at surveying what’s out there.

• App stays in splash screen in iOS 7.0.3

  Recently in iOS 7.0.3, my app stays in the splash screen and was not going into the app at all. If i kill the app, and launch it again it opens up without any issues. Can anyone help me on this issue?. I think the application -didFinishLaunchingWithOptions was not returning yes. Note: I have a lot of stuffs like deleting database, initializing a dozen of buttons in appdelegate's *init* function. I know that it is a bad practice to have things in init but since its been there for more than 4 years and was working fine with previous OS versions i didn't find a good reason to change it. Also this issue is not happening all the time. My app size is 40 MB. Thanks in advance...

  I'm attempting to write a screen scraper for Digikey that will allow our company to keep accurate track of pricing, part availability and product replacements when a part is discontinued. There seems to be a discrepancy between the XPATH that I'm seeing in Chrome Devtools as well as Firebug on Firefox and what my C# program is seeing. I'm trying to make a role-playing game, and I want the game to work so that it transitions to the battle NIB for battles, then returns back to the map NIB afterward, yet still retain all the progress the player has made exploring the dungeon. I've tried proto-typing this with just a view-switcher, where one view creates content, and then switches to the other view, and then coming back from the other view. However, once the view goes back to the original, the original view is reset. How to make the data persistent so that it doesn't reset after every "battle"? Thanks!

  I have a tab bar application with mixed orientation support for only some views. One of the child view controller shown from one of the tab's navigation controller is displayed only in Landscape mode. In order to accomplish this, I've done the view transformation for the child view as suggested here: Is there a documented way to set the iPhone orientation? The only problem I'm seeing is that after I've performed the orientation adjustment for the child controller and then readjusted orientation back to normal on its dismissal, the contents of the (parent) navigation controller is still shown with Landscape mode dimensions despite the navigation controller reporting the correct value for the interfaceOrientation. How do I ensure that view's size is reset to match the orientation without hardcoding screen dimensions?   When opening a new window in finder, the new window will go below the screen. This is not a big deal, but when using macvim or terminal it can be annoying since your command prompt is now hidden. Firefox seems to be smarter, it never overlaps below the screen. Same deal for the right hand side of the screen, windows often open with their right edge cut off. Is there any way to prevent this?

  Is there any software that can capture the screen and turn it into a webcam-type input so that you can easily record and/or broadcast your screen with regular video software? Edit: Just to be clear, I'd like to be able to use it live as an input to video conferencing software as well as for making recordings with video editing software. Bonus points if it allows me to capture a screen remote from the computer that is sending the video (for example by connecting to another computer with VNC). So it should show up as an input alongside any webcams I have installed, but instead of being a camera, it should be whatever is on the screen.
