• Keeping track of dirty blocks on a block device

  I'm looking for a way to keep track of what blocks on a block device are modified after a point in time. How I eventually want to use this for is to keep two 2TB disks in sync, one which only comes online (connected through USB) once a month. Without knowing what blocks have been modified, I have to go through the whole 2TB every time. I'm using a recent GNU/Linux OS and have C and Python experience. I'm hoping to avoid writing kernel level code as I don't have any experience in that area whatsoever. My current theory is that there should be some hooks somewhere where my code can get called when a disk flush is performed. Any ideas?

• another file_exists with special chars problem

  I have some folders with special characters in their names. I run currently at a test-computer with Windows OS, but later I will use LINUX. My problem is that the folders with special chars in their names cannot be recognized somehow. ex: file_exists('../Bilar/27733691_1.jpg') // TRUE file_exists('../Båtar/27733691_1.jpg') // FALSE because of the special char in folder name... How should I solve this? I plan to run LINUX in the future when website is online... would that matter? Please explain thoroughly because I am a newb at this Thanks

  Hi, we have a web application that users can take online reports from ou ERP system data... And we have another web application that is used by our teachers and employees. We can't change the ERP web app because its a closed DLL, in this case we made some extended functionality in our custom internal web app and we are willing to put this functionality on the "menu" of the ERP web app. I need to integrate the two applications in the following way: When I click in the menu of the ERP web app, I want that our internal web app assert that the click have come from our ERP web app and not typed in the URL, this is possible?

• Converting an IP address to a number:

  Question: When I convert the IP address 192.168.115.67 to a number, is it done like this: 192*256^3 + 168*256^2+115*256^1+67*256^0 = 3232265027 or like this: 192*256^0 + 168*256^1+115*256^2+67*256^3 = 1131653312 I find both variants online, and frankly it doesn't matter as long as reverse it according to the conversion process. But I want to calculate the IP V6 from the IPv4 address, and it seems both variants are on the web... resulting in different IPv6 addresses, and only one can be correct... I use the 1131653312 variant, as 1131653312 is the variant .NET gives me, but 3232265027 is the variant I find on the web for IPv4 to IPv6 conversion...

  I am making a simple online application. I have a navigation bar with a few buttons and one "div" into which all the new contents will be loaded dynamically i.e. when I click "About", it will load the page parts into the "div" without reloading the whole page with .load() function. The problem is: what if I need to give a link to the Documents section of my web site, or the user wants to store this kind of link, the url is not rewritten when browsing my site. when the user stores the default link it will always link him to the default "Home" part. How can I rewrite the URL and what is the most correct way to do this?

Those projects are about some scientific stuff, most (probably all) the code will be released under GPL after the publication of some results and we don't want to spend money for this. My first question is: should i keep my local SVN server or you know some good service for this? Both of them have some disadvantages and services like xp-dev.com looks pretty interesting but should i trust them?   Hey, I was wondering what the most effective way of preventing people from stealing my application (downloading a copy of the .apk online rather than buying it). I've spent a lot of time on one in particular (Droidbox) and won't be releasing Sync until I can guarantee that the people who are providing illegal copies of the pro version aren't able to. Anyone implemented this? I've tried checking my package signature verses an the signature of an unsigned copy but it appears to be the same - perhaps I'm doing something incorrectly here. I'm unsure whether people actually distribute the signed .apk in which case I don't think signature validation would work to begin with...

• Creating a blocked user intercepter in Grails

  I am working on a social site where users can block other users. Throughout the site --dozens of places, user information is displayed. For example, user comments, reply forms, online user list.. etc etc.. The problem is that given the high number of places user info is displayed, it's becoming very difficult to check each time if that user is blocked. For example: <g:each var="comment" in="${comments}"> <g:if test="!${loggedInUser.blockedUsers.find { it == comment.user}"> show comment </g:if> </g:each> Does Grails provide any functionality that would facilitate creating some kind of filter or intercepter where I could simply exclude blocked users when iterating lists, etc? If not, what would you suggest I do?

• Client Profile Application prerequisites

  One last question about Client Profile installation. I downloaded the Microsoft .NET Framework Client Profile Online Installer because we want to put it in the installation CD because our end user might not have either .net framework 3.5 or internet. So we want to be able to handle both cases. In the prerequisites I'm able to select the location of where the file will be, but I don't know where it should be. I want to be able to somehow put the path of the cd, something like d:\ProductName\Prerequisites\DotNetFx35ClientSetup.exe so it can get it and install it from there.   I'm working on this big website and I want to put it online before its fully finished... I'm working locally and the database is getting really big so I wanted to upload the website and continue to work on it in the server, but allowing people to enter, so I can test. The question is if this is good for SEO, I mean, there are a lot of things SEO related that are incomplete.. For example: there are no friendly URLs, no sitemap, no .htacces file, lot of 'in-construction' sections... Does Google will penalize me forever? How does it works? Google indexes adn get the structure of the site just once or its constantly updating and checking for changes??? What i should do? What you recommend?!!?

  someone wrote a nice framework for developing html5 3d engine. It's GPL/MIT licensed. Do you think it's a good idea to build upon it, and then repackage it and sell it as a service? For eg the framework lets you build 3d environments. so I build on it, maybe add a few features like characters and music in the environment, and turn it into an online game. Is it a feasible idea? Of course, part of the GPL license says that all source code has to be visible to end users. Assuming the web is a winner take all market based on first mover advantage, why care about hiding the source code? It's the product that's being sold that counts.

  I want to build an online quiz test site. Suppose, exam will start at 10:00 am and a student login to give exam at 9:45 am. Whenever the student clicks 'Take Exam' button, he/she cannot not get access to the question paper because the exam time is 10:00 am and there are still 15 minutes before the exam start. Now I want to put some Javascript or PHP code that will prohibit the students to give exam earlier and if a students come early, it will show a stopwatch which display the remaining time before exam time and when the current time is equal to exam time then he/she will be directly redirected to the question paper page.

  In an IObservable sequence (in Reactive Extensions for .NET), I'd like to get the value of the previous and current elements so that I can compare them. I found an example online similar to below which accomplishes the task: sequence.Zip(sequence.Skip(1), (prev, cur) => new { Previous = prev, Current = cur }) It works fine except that it evaluates the sequence twice, which I would like to avoid. You can see that it is being evaluated twice with this code: var debugSequence = sequence.Do(item => Debug.WriteLine("Retrieved an element from sequence")); debugSequence.Zip(debugSequence.Skip(1), (prev, cur) => new { Previous = prev, Current = cur }).Subscribe(); The output shows twice as many of the debug lines as there are elements in the sequence. I understand why this happens, but so far I haven't found an alternative that doesn't evaluate the sequence twice. How can I combine the previous and current with only one sequence evaluation?

• Forming a SOAP request message through WSDL

  I'm very new to webservices. I'm trying to figure out how I can formulate a request message (and determine what the response message) would be based on the wsdl description that I have. This is from a third party web service. The WSDL description that I have access to gives me a bunch of information like <types> <message> <operation> etc. But in the examples that I've seen online, it's showing the request mesage within the "soap:envelope" tag. What am I missing? Eventually I'd like to be able to call this webservice using JQuery. But I can't even figure out how to formulate the request message let alone make an ajax call to it. any help would be appreciated.

I think this can be handled with mod_rewrite and I found this snippet online that blocks bad sites using the referrer. I have the below in an if statement but that just makes the "result" recordset gets those nasty red lines and it doesn't work. There's quite a bit of info including geotags and these are going to be mapped on my app. The developer site has the very informative piece of information: You can use the network (when it's available) to store and retrieve data on your own web-based services. To do network operations, use classes in the following packages: java.net.* android.net.* Like I said in my previous question, I'm still very much an android newbie, and trying to remember my java oop from college is slow. Does anyone have an example of how this might work, or how I could implement it? I wouldn't mind even connecting to a local xml file, if I could find a good example of how to do that!?
