  • Update JProgressBar from new Thread

    - by Dacto
How can I update the JProgressBar.setValue(int) from another thread? My secondary goal is do it in the least amount of classes possible. Here is the code I have right now: **Part of the main class....** pp.addActionListener( new ActionListener(){ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event) { new Thread(new Task(sd.getValue())).start(); } }); public class Task implements Runnable{ int val; public Task(int value){ this.val = value; } @Override public void run() { for (int i=0; i<=value; i++){ //Progressively increment variable i pbar.setValue(i); //Set value pbar.repaint(); //Refresh graphics try{Thread.sleep(50);} //Sleep 50 milliseconds catch (InterruptedException err){} } } } pp is a JButton and starts the new thread when the JButton is clicked. pbar is the JProgressBar object from the Main class. How can I update its value?(progress) The code above in run() cannot see the pbar.

  • Why my buttons OnClick event fails to fire?

    - by Pentium10
I have an activity, where the ListView holds customized linear layout elements for each row. One of the rows has a button defined as: <Button android:text="Pick a contact" android:id="@+id/btnPickContact" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:gravity="center_vertical" android:layout_height="wrap_content"></Button> Then in java, I have this code: ((Button) row.findViewById(R.id.btnPickContact)).setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI); intent.putExtra(EXTRA_ONLINE_ID, (String)v.getTag(TAG_ONLINE_ID)); act.startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_CONTACT); } }); In this setup the event fails to start. Also I've tried by implementing the interface: @Override public void onClick(View v) { Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI); intent.putExtra(EXTRA_ONLINE_ID, (String)v.getTag(TAG_ONLINE_ID)); startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_CONTACT); } still no luck, the event doesn't fire. What to do?

  • Google Docs iphone library error reporting

    - by phil harris
I'm in the process of adding a Google Docs interface to my iPhone app, and I'm largely following the example in the GoogleDocs.m file from Tom Saxton's example app. The objective-c library I'm using is from http://code.google.com/p/gdata-objectivec-client/wiki/GDataObjCIntroduction The library file used is from gdata-objectivec-client-1.10.0.zip. This service:username:password method is a slight variant of the one found in the Saxton file GoogleDocs.m starting at line 351: - (void)service:(NSString *)username password:(NSString *)password { if(service == nil) { service = [[[GDataServiceGoogleDocs alloc] init] autorelease]; [service setUserAgent:s_strUserAgent]; [service setShouldCacheDatedData:NO]; [service setServiceShouldFollowNextLinks:NO]; (void)[service authenticateWithDelegate:self didAuthenticateSelector:@selector(ticket:authenticatedWithError:)]; } // update the username/password each time the service is requested if (username != nil && [username length] && password != nil && [password length]) [service setUserCredentialsWithUsername:username password:password]; else [service setUserCredentialsWithUsername:nil password:nil]; } // associated callback for service:username:password: method - (void)ticket:(GDataServiceTicket *)ticket authenticatedWithError:(NSError *)error { NSLog(@"%@",@"authenticatedWithError called"); if(error == nil) [self selectBackupRestore]; else { NSLog(@"error code(%d)", [error code]); NSLog(@"error domain(%d)", [error domain]); NSLog(@"localizedDescription(%@)", error.localizedDescription); NSLog(@"localizedFailureReason(%@)", error.localizedFailureReason); NSLog(@"localizedRecoveryOptions(%@)", error.localizedRecoveryOptions); NSLog(@"localizedRecoverySuggestion(%@)", error.localizedRecoverySuggestion); } } Please note the service:username:password method and the callback compile and run fine. The problem is that the callback is passing a non-nil NSError object. I added an NSLog() for every error reporting attribute of NSError and the (Xcode) log output of a test run is below. [Session started at 2010-05-27 12:27:16 -0700.] 2010-05-27 12:27:38.778 iFilebox[74596:207] authenticatedWithError called 2010-05-27 12:27:38.779 iFilebox[74596:207] error code(-1) 2010-05-27 12:27:38.780 iFilebox[74596:207] error domain(499324) 2010-05-27 12:27:38.781 iFilebox[74596:207] localizedDescription(Operation could not be completed. (com.google.GDataServiceDomain error -1.)) 2010-05-27 12:27:38.782 iFilebox[74596:207] localizedFailureReason((null)) 2010-05-27 12:27:38.782 iFilebox[74596:207] localizedRecoveryOptions((null)) 2010-05-27 12:27:38.783 iFilebox[74596:207] localizedRecoverySuggestion((null)) My essential question is in the error reporting. I was hoping the localizedDescription would be more specific of the error. All I get for the error code value is -1, and the only description of the error is "Operation could not be completed. (com.google.GDataServiceDomain error -1.". Not very helpful. Does anyone know what a GDataServiceDomain error -1 is? Where can I find a full list of all error codes returned, and a description of what they mean?

  • Implicit vs explicit getters/setters in AS3, which to use and why?

    - by James
Since the advent of AS3 I have been working like this: private var loggy:String; public function getLoggy ():String { return loggy; } public function setLoggy ( loggy:String ):void { // checking to make sure loggy's new value is kosher etc... this.loggy = loggy; } and have avoided working like this: private var _loggy:String; public function get loggy ():String { return loggy; } public function set loggy ( loggy:String ):void { // checking to make sure loggy's new value is kosher etc... this.loggy = loggy; } I have avoided using AS3's implicit getters/setters partly so that I can just start typing "get.." and content assist will give me a list of all my getters, and likewise for my setters. I also dislike underscores in my code which turned me off the implicit route. Another reason is that I prefer the feel of this: whateverObject.setLoggy( "loggy's awesome new value!" ); to this: whateverObject.loggy = "loggy's awesome new value!"; I feel that the former better reflects what is actually happening in the code. I am calling functions, not setting values directly. After installing Flash Builder and the great new plugin SourceMate ( which helps to get some of the useful features that FDT is famous into FB ) I realized that when I use SourceMate's "generate getters and setters" feature it automatically sets my code up using the implicit route: private var _loggy:String; public function get loggy ():String { return loggy; } public function set loggy ( loggy:String ):void { // do whatever is needed to check to make sure loggy is an acceptable value this.loggy = loggy; } I figure that these SourceMate people must know what they are doing or they wouldn't be writing workflow enhancement plugins for coding in AS3, so now I am questioning my ways. So my question to you is: Can anyone give me a good reason why I should give up my explicit g/s ways, start using the implicit technique, and embrace those stinky little _underscores for my private vars? Or back me up in my reasons for doing things the way that I do?

  • Generic unboxing of boxed value types

    - by slurmomatic
I have a generic function that is constrained to struct. My inputs are boxed ("objects"). Is it possible to unbox the value at runtime to avoid having to check for each possible type and do the casts manually? See the above example: public struct MyStruct { public int Value; } public void Foo<T>(T test) where T : struct { // do stuff } public void TestFunc() { object o = new MyStruct() { Value = 100 }; // o is always a value type Foo(o); } In the example, I know that o must be a struct (however, it does not need to be MyStruct ...). Is there a way to call Foo without tons of boilerplate code to check for every possible struct type? Thank you.

  • converting NSTimer running not on main runloop to GCD

    - by Justin Galzic
I have a task that runs periodically and it was originally designed to run on a separate run loop than the main runloop using NSThread and NSTimer. What's the best way to adapt this to take advantage of GCD? Current code: -(void)initiateSomeTask { [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(startTimerTask) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } -(void)startTimerTask { // We won't get back the main runloop since we're on a new thread NSRunLoop *myRunLoop = [NSRunLoop currentRunLoop]; NSPort *myPort = [NSMachPort port]; [myRunLoop addPort:myPort forMode:NSDefaultRunLoopMode]; NSTimer *myTimer = [NSTimer timerWithTimeInterval:10 /* seconds */ target:self selector:@selector(doMyTaskMethod) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; [myRunLoop addTimer:myTimer forMode:NSRunLoopCommonModes]; [myRunLoop run]; } Is there anything I can do besides replace detachNewThreadSelector with dispatch_async?

  • CellTable + AsyncListViewAdapter<T>, stuck at 'loading' when paging

    - by Jaroslav Záruba
Hi I'm trying to make CellTable, AsyncListViewAdapter<T> and SimplePager<T> working together. I managed to display my data, but whenever I click either "go to start" or "go to end" button I get that 'loading' indicator which stays there till the end of days. ( AsyncListViewAdapter<T>.onRangeChanged doesn't even get called this time.) As I have only single row in my data those two buttons should be (and appear to be) disabled. I went through the code-snippets in this thread, but I can't see nothing suspicions in what I've been doing. Is there some obvious answer to a rookie mistake? I shrinked my variable names, hopefully it won't wrap too much. protected class MyAsyncAdapter extends AsyncListViewAdapter<DTO> { @Override protected void onRangeChanged(ListView<DTO> v) { // doesn't get called on go2start/go2end :( Range r = v.getRange(); fetchData(r.getStart(), r.getLength()); } } private void addTable() { // table: CellTable<DTO> table = new CellTable<DTO>(10); table.addColumn(new Column<DTO, String>(new TextCell()) { @Override public String getValue(DTO namespace) { return namespace.getName(); } }, "Name"); // pager: SimplePager<DTO> pager = new SimplePager<DTO>(table); table.setPager(pager); adapter = new MyAsyncAdapter(); adapter.addView(table); // does not make any difference: // adapter.updateDataSize(0, false); // adapter.updateDataSize(10, true); VerticalPanel vPanel = new VerticalPanel(); vPanel.add(table); vPanel.add(pager); RootLayoutPanel.get().add(vPanel); } // success-handler of my fetching AsyncCallback @Override public void onSuccess(List<DTO> data) { // AsyncCallback<List<DTO>> has start field adapter.updateViewData(start, data.size(), data); if(data.size() < length) adapter.updateDataSize(start + data.size(), true); } Regards J. • Any sense to set obj = null(Nothing) in Dispose()?

    - by serhio
    Is there any sense to set custom object to null(Nothing in VB.NET) in the Dispose() method? Could this prevent memory leaks or it's useless?! Let's consider two examples: public class Foo : IDisposable { private Bar bar; // standard custom .NET object public Foo(Bar bar) { this.bar = bar; } public void Dispose() { bar = null; // any sense? } } public class Foo : RichTextBox { // this could be also: GDI+, TCP socket, SQl Connection, other "heavy" object private Bitmap backImage; public Foo(Bitmap backImage) { this.backImage = backImage; } protected override void Dispose(bool disposing) { if (disposing) { backImage = null; // any sense? } } }

  • Flash CS, reference root from external class

    - by Lotus
Hi, I made this class and I put it in the same package of Timeline.as (the Document Class): package { import flash.utils.Timer; import flash.events.TimerEvent; public class Counter2 extends Timer { public function Counter2(delay:Number, repeatCount:int=0) { super(delay, repeatCount); super.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, timerHandler); } public override function start():void { super.start(); } public override function stop():void { super.stop(); } public function timerHandler(evt:TimerEvent) { trace(evt.target.currentCount); } } } This class is instanciated in Timeline.as constructor. Is there any way to reference Timeline(root) from this class? And, if so, how? Thanks!

  • ListView not showing up in fragment

    - by aindurti
When I insert a listview in a fragment in my application, it doesn't show up after I populate it with items. In fact, the application crashes due to a NullPointerException. Can anybody help me? Here is the detail activity from which I show the fragments. package com.example.sample; import android.content.Intent; import android.os.Bundle; import android.support.v4.app.Fragment; import android.support.v4.app.FragmentTransaction; import android.support.v4.app.NavUtils; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.ListView; import com.actionbarsherlock.app.ActionBar; import com.actionbarsherlock.app.ActionBar.Tab; import com.actionbarsherlock.app.SherlockFragmentActivity; import com.actionbarsherlock.view.MenuItem; /** * An activity representing a single Course detail screen. On tablet-size devices, item details are presented * side-by-side with a list of items in a {@link CourseListActivity}. * <p> * This activity is mostly just a 'shell' activity containing nothing more than * a {@link CourseDetailFragment}. */ public class CourseDetailActivity extends SherlockFragmentActivity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_course_detail); // Show the Up button in the action bar. As you can see in the CourseDetailActvity, I populate smaple items in the listview to see if it the listview shows up. The fragment gets inflated properly, but when I try to add items to the listview, the application crashes! • C# 4.0: Can I use a Color as an optional parameter with a default value?

public void log(String msg, Color c = Color.black) { loggerText.ForeColor = c; loggerText.AppendText("\n" + msg); } This results in an error that c must be a compile-time constant. I've read up on this a little and most examples are dealing with strings and ints. I've figured out I can use the colorconverter class but I'm not sure it will be very efficient. • Joda Time cannot subtract one hour

    - by Leoa
In my android program, I have a spinner that allows the user to select different times. Each selection is processed with Joda time to subtract the minutes. Code is something like this: [DllImport("user32.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Auto, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] public static extern void mouse_event(long dwFlags, long dx, long dy, long cButtons, long dwExtraInfo); private const int MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTDOWN = 0x02; private const int MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP = 0x04; public static void DoMouseClick(int x, int y) { Cursor.Position = new Point(x, y); mouse_event(MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTDOWN | MOUSEEVENTF_LEFTUP, x, y, 0, 0); } This code works perfectly. For example I call this function every 30 minutes. But if I press WINKEY+L (Windows is locked) only cursor is moved but not press occurs. Any ideas?

  • I'd like to know why a function executes fine when called from x but not when called from y

    - by Roland
    When called from archive(), readcont(char *filename) executes fine! Called from runoptions() though, it fails to list the files "archived"! why is this? The program must run in terminal. Use -h as a parameter to view the usage. This program is written to "archive" text files into ".rldzip" files. readcont( char *x) should show the files archived in file (*x) a) Successful call Use the program to archive 3 text files: rldzip.exe a.txt b.txt c.txt FILEXY -a archive() will call readcont and it will work showing the files archived after the binary FILEXY will be created. b) Unsuccessful call After the file is created, use: rldzip.exe FILEXY.rldzip -v You can see that the function crashes! I'd like to know why is this happening! /* Sa se scrie un program care: a) arhiveaza fisiere b) dezarhiveaza fisierele athivate */ #include<stdio.h> #include<stdlib.h> #include<conio.h> #include<string.h> struct content{ char *text; char *flname; }*arc; FILE *f; void readcont(char *x){ FILE *p; if((p = fopen(x, "rb")) == NULL){ perror("Critical error: "); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } content aux; int i; fread(&i, sizeof(int), 1, p); printf("\nFiles in %s \n\n", x); while(i-- >1 && fread(&aux, sizeof(struct content), 1, p) != 0) printf("%s \n", aux.flname); fclose(p); printf("\n\n"); } void archive(int argc, char **argv){ int i; char inttext[5000], textline[1000]; //Allocate dynamic memory for the content to be archived! arc = (content*)malloc(argc * sizeof(content)); for(i=1; i< argc; i++) { if((f = fopen(argv[i], "r")) == NULL){ printf("%s: ", argv[i]); perror(""); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } while(!feof(f)){ fgets(textline, 5000, f); strcat(inttext, textline); } arc[i-1].text = (char*)malloc(strlen(inttext) + 1); strcpy(arc[i-1].text, inttext); arc[i-1].flname = (char*)malloc(strlen(argv[i]) + 1); strcpy(arc[i-1].flname, argv[i]); fclose(f); } char *filen; filen=(char*)malloc(strlen(argv[argc])+1+7); strcpy(filen, argv[argc]); strcat(filen, ".rldzip"); f = fopen(filen, "wb"); fwrite(&argc, sizeof(int), 1, f); fwrite(arc, sizeof(content), argc, f); fclose(f); printf("Success! "); for(i=1; i< argc; i++) { (i==argc-1)? printf("and %s ", argv[i]) : printf("%s ", argv[i]); } printf("compressed into %s", filen); readcont(filen); free(filen); } void help(char *v){ printf("\n\n----------------------RLDZIP----------------------\n\nUsage: \n\n Archive n files: \n\n%s $file[1] $file[2] ... $file[n] $output -a\n\nExample:\n%s a.txt b.txt c.txt output -a\n\n\n\nView files:\n\n %s $file.rldzip -v\n\nExample:\n %s fileE.rldzip -v\n\n", v, v, v, v); } void runoptions(int c, char **v){ int i; if(c < 2){ printf("Arguments missing!   • Web image loaded by thread in android

    - by Bostjan
I have an extended BaseAdapter in a ListActivity: private static class RequestAdapter extends BaseAdapter { and some handlers and runnables defined in it // Need handler for callbacks to the UI thread final Handler mHandler = new Handler(); // Create runnable for posting final Runnable mUpdateResults = new Runnable() { public void run() { loadAvatar(); } }; protected static void loadAvatar() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub //ava.setImageBitmap(getImageBitmap("URL"+pic)); buddyIcon.setImageBitmap(avatar); } In the getView function of the Adapter, I'm getting the view like this: if (convertView == null) { convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.messageitem, null); // Creates a ViewHolder and store references to the two children views // we want to bind data to. holder = new ViewHolder(); holder.username = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.username); holder.date = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.dateValue); holder.time = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.timeValue); holder.notType = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.notType); holder.newMsg = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.newMsg); holder.realUsername = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.realUsername); holder.replied = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.replied); holder.msgID = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.msgID_fr); holder.avatar = (ImageView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.buddyIcon); holder.msgPreview = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.msgPreview); convertView.setTag(holder); } else { // Get the ViewHolder back to get fast access to the TextView // and the ImageView. holder = (ViewHolder) convertView.getTag(); } and the image is getting loaded this way: Thread sepThread = new Thread() { public void run() { String ava; ava = request[8].replace(".", "_micro."); Log.e("ava thread",ava+", username: "+request[0]); avatar = getImageBitmap(URL+ava); buddyIcon = holder.avatar; mHandler.post(mUpdateResults); //holder.avatar.setImageBitmap(getImageBitmap(URL+ava)); } }; sepThread.start(); Now, the problem I'm having is that if there are more items that need to display the same picture, not all of those pictures get displayed. When you scroll up and down the list maybe you end up filling all of them. When I tried the commented out line (holder.avatar.setImageBitmap...) the app sometimes force closes with "only the thread that created the view can request...". But only sometimes. Any idea how I can fix this? Either option.

  • Class Destructor Problem

    - by user279691
I am making a simple class that contains a StreamWrite class Logger { private StreamWriter sw; private DateTime LastTime; public Logger(string filename) { LastTime = DateTime. Now; sw = new StreamWriter(filename); } public void Write(string s) { sw.WriteLine((DateTime.Now-LastTime).Ticks/10000+":"+ s); LastTime = DateTime. Now; } public void Flush() { sw.Flush(); } ~Logger() { sw.Close();//Raises Exception! } } But when I close this StreamWriter in the destructor, it raises an exception that the StreamWriter was already deleted? Why? And how to make it work such that when the Logger class is deleted, the StreamWriter is closed before deletion? Thanks!

  • NSUndoManager won't undo editing of a NSMutableDictionary

    - by xon1c
Hi, I'm experiencing problems with the undo operation. The following code won't undo an removeObjectForKey: operation but the redo operation setObject:ForKey: works. - (void) insertIntoDictionary:(NSBezierPath *)thePath { [[[window undoManager] prepareWithInvocationTarget:self] removeFromDictionary:thePath]; if(![[window undoManager] isUndoing]) [[window undoManager] setActionName:@"Save Path"]; NSLog(@"Object id is: %d and Key id is: %d", [currentPath objectAtIndex:0], thePath); [colorsForPaths setObject:[currentPath objectAtIndex:0] forKey:thePath]; } - (void) removeFromDictionary:(NSBezierPath *)thePath { [[[window undoManager] prepareWithInvocationTarget:self] insertIntoDictionary:thePath]; if(![[window undoManager] isUndoing]) [[window undoManager] setActionName:@"Delete Path"]; NSLog(@"Object id is: %d and Key id is: %d", [[colorsForPaths allKeys] objectAtIndex:0], thePath); [colorsForPaths removeObjectForKey:thePath]; } The output on the console looks like: // Before setObject:ForKey: Object id is: 1184384 and Key id is: 1530016 // Before removeObjectForKey: UNDO Object id is: 2413664 and Key id is: 1530016 I don't get why the Object id is different although the Key id remains the same. Is there some special undo/redo handling of NSMutableDictionary objects? thx xonic
