• How do I update Safari on Windows?

  I'd like to update Safari to 4.0.5 for security reasons, but I can't figure out how to run the Apple updater manually. On Mac there's usually a "Check for Updates" menu item, but I don't see one on the Windows version. I tried downloading the latest version from http://www.apple.com/safari/download/, but Windows won't let me open the file, saying it is a security risk.

  I have enabled the setting in squid (in pfsesnse) where any file which is greater than 50MB should not be downloaded. I tried downloading in IE and it comes with error that security setting does not allow you to download that file. But when i tried same in FF it allows me to download any file size. Why does Firefox bypass the proxy server?

• Annoying behavior from BitTorrent

  I'm trying to download a file via bittorent and experiencing a very annoying issue. Everytime I start downloading, the download rate varies between 40-50KB and stays at that for roughly a minute, before it starts to go down until it eventually gets as low as 2-3KB. If I exit and restart Bittorent it starts from 40-50KB again. What on earth is the reason for this? It seems like a pattern rather than the random fluctuation of seeds/peers leaving.

• Vista 32-Bit Home Premium will not let me install any updates.

  Windows update says that it could not search for new updates and gives the error code 80070643. From what I have read it has something to do with Office 2003 and I dont even have it installed. I tried downloading and installing vista sp2 but it fails as well giving me error: ERROR_EVT_CONFIGURATION_ERROR(0x89973aa2). Can someone please help me resolve this issue?

  Do you know of a way to download exe files although the web proxy has a filter in place not to allow this? I have searched for a feature web site that does automatic file renaming. That should certainly make it possible. The solution would take a URL and then change the extension so that it would look to my proxy as I was downloading a .dat file (or similar). There are perhaps other solutions to this problem.

  I'm currently using conventional HDDs like the 5200 rpms, browsing a lot, my folder and files are scattered, torrenting always and I'm not fond of optimization like disabling cache, cleaning temp Files , etc. My question is, given the above conditions (no disable of cache, seeding always in torrent, downloading torrent) is it safe to use SSD?   I've been told by my ISP I'm using too much bandwidth so after using Activity Monitor to see that I'm using ~2GB a day I've used the nettop command line utility to work out where. Turns out it's iTunes. I don't use it for downloading/streaming music (other than podcasts of which I definitely don't have 2GB of new ones a day) or movies. What is iTunes doing?   I'm quite annoyed with my firefox and Flash files : When I try opening a .swf file with it: If the file is on the web (via http://...), it plays normally in browser If the file is local (via file:///...), firefox only show me a dialog to download it It tried opening a web swf file, downloading it then opening it locally, it's the same. So I guess it's a firefox problem. I'm on Gentoo Linux, and it started today, without any apparent reason.

• Prevent Windows 7 PC from sleeping while a download is in progress

  While I'm downloading a large file on Windows 7 using Google Chrome, my computer goes to sleep. I could obviously set the computer to not sleep at all (or change the interval before the computer sleeps). What I want to know is: Is there a way to make Windows 7 not sleep as long as a download is in progress? (perhaps when any network activity is going on?). I've looked in the Advanced Power settings, and haven't seen any obvious setting.
