• How to Iterate a Resharper Template ?.

  I have a small Resharper Template I have written for Null check of a function Parameter (C#). Check.IsNotNull($param$, "$param$"); - Suggest Parameter - #1 I can now null check the function paramters one by one. But I want to be able to null check all the paramters at once through a template. Is it Possible in Resharper?. Is there someting like a "$Foreach" using which I can loop through parameter variables and write the code to check them one by one ?. (without writing out the foreach into the code) I see that the "Alt + Ins" does something similar. (Taking all Properties on the class and making them as parameters of a constructor). So hoping that there's a way out.

• How do you convert date taken from a bash script to milliseconds in java program?

  I am writing a piece of code in java that needs to take a time sent from a bash script and parse the time to milliseconds. When I check the millisecond conversion on the date everything is correct except for the month I have sent which is January instead of March. Here is the variable I create in the bash script, which later in the script I pass to the java program: TIME=`date +%m%d%Y_%H:%M:%S` Here is the java code which parses the time to milliseconds: String dt = "${scriptstart}"; java.text.SimpleDateFormat scriptStart = new java.text.SimpleDateFormat("MMDDyyyy_HH:mm:ss"); long start = scriptStart.parse(dt).getTime(); The goal of this statement is to find the elapsed time between the start of the script and the current system time. • What is a good reporting service for a simple database/hobbyist setup?

  I have a meager production environment running on my PC for a little application that I work on in my spare time. At this point I have the basics setup, MySQL, junit, svn... I am midway through development and I now need to generate various reports. These reports are based on what data is in the database.... Now, my question is this: Is there an existing reporting tool that accepts SQL and generates various reports (via: email, PDF, etc). Some tool which makes writing new reports easy, while also having a somewhat robust set of features. Does this software exist or must I write all of these reports myself?

• Is there a combination of "LIKE" and "IN" in SQL?

  Hi folks. In SQL I (sadly) often have to use "LIKE" conditions due to databases that violate nearly every rule of normalization. I can't change that right now. But that's irrelevant to the question. Further, I often use conditions like WHERE something in (1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21) for better readability and flexibility of my SQL statements. Is there any possible way to combine these two things without writing complicated sub-selects? I want something as easy as WHERE something LIKE ('bla%', '%foo%', 'batz%') instead of WHERE something LIKE 'bla%' OR something LIKE '%foo%' OR something LIKE 'batz%' I'm working with MS SQl Server and Oracle here but I'm interested if this is possible in any RDBMS at all.

• Advantages of using WCF to work with Sharepoint Services WSS3.0?

  Hi folks, what is your opinion or better off your practical experience using WCF to work with WSS instead of SP web services? I am writing some custom library for our software to store and retrieve files from WSS document libraries using sharepoint web services. I am not entirely happy with the performance of the sp web services - a bit too slow in many cases. Now, microsoft claims a significant improvements in WCF over remoting and I am looking into a good way to use WCF for my file services. Any suggestions or ideas?   I am writing an application that I need to run at incredibly low speeds. The application creates and destroys memory in creative ways throughout its run, and it works just fine. I am wondering what compiler optimizations occur so I can try to build to that. One trick off hand is that the CLR handles arrays much faster than lists, so if you need to handle a ton of elements in a List, you may be better off calling ToArray() and handling it rather than calling ElementAt() again and again. I am wondering if there is any sort of comprehensive list for this kind of thing, or maybe the SO community can create one :-)

  Am writing unit test for a multi-threading application, where I need to wait until a specific event triggered so that I know the asyn operation is done. E.g. When I call repository.add(something), I wait for event AfterChange before doing any assertion. • Alternatives to UIWebView for rich content?

  In my app, I am displaying 4 "tabs", each are local content through a UIWebView. I create HTML markup from my simple data. This is slow to load and I'm trying to speed it up. I'm using UIWebView to accomplish these: 1. hyperlinks 2. some styling - font colors 3. HTML tables Writing my own class to handle this is okay for (1.) hyperlinks - I can use a touch event to call a method. And (2.) styling - I can use UILables to do basic formatting, no biggie here. BUT what I really love about the UIWebViews is the (3.) HTML tables! I find it troublesome to line up the UILabels in a way that mimics HTML Tables, for instance, one cell's height in a row changes the height of all cells. I'm looking for another perspective or knowledge of an alternative.

  So I have my rails application and I have blog posts in my application. For starters I am on rails 2.3.5 and Ruby 1.8.7 For the show page, I am required to give a prev/next link to the prev/next blog post. The catch is that I need to find the next blog where the language column in the database is equal to 'eng'. I had started writing this out in my model and it works but of course this will just find the prev/next record in the database no matter what the language is specified in the column and it will break when the record is not found. def next(lang='eng') BlogEntry.find(self.id - 1) end def prev(lang='eng') BlogEntry.find(self.id + 1) end

  I'm writing iphone app that has UITableView and uses Core Data. Data in UITableView is shown using NSFetchedResultsController. I use NSPredicate operator "IN" to fetch only needed entries. NSArray *filterArray = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"789", @"963", @"445", @"198", nil]; NSPredicate *predicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"id IN %@", filterArray]; Now the problem is that I need to show entries in same sequence they are in filterArray. How can I do it? How I can create NSSortDescriptor that would sort all entries in that way? I tried without sort descriptor, but I get error that NSFetchedResultsController needs sortDescriptor to be set.

Some of these functions are pointers and I want to inspect the code of that function in the kernel source. But I don't know which function it is pointing to.   Hi guys, I'm writing a parser for some LISP files. I'm trying to get rid of leading whitespace in a string. The string contents are along the lines of: :FUNCTION (LAMBDA (DELTA PLASMA-IN-0) (IF (OR (>= #61=(+ (* 1 DELTA) PLASMA-IN-0) 100) (<= #61# 0)) PLASMA-IN-0 #61#)) The tabs are all printed as 4 spaces in the file, so I want to get rid of these leading tabs. I tried to do this: string.replaceAll("\\s{4}", " ") - but it had no effect at all on the string. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Is it because it is a multi-line string? Thanks

• A good F# codebase to learn from

  Hi all, I've been teaching myself F# for a while now. I've read Programming F# by Chris Smith (great book) and I've written a few small scripts for getting the job done here and there. But IMO the best way to learn a new programming language—and more importantly, the idioms that come with it—is to read a good open source codebase written in that language. Naturally, writing code in that language is crucial, but in the beginning, you're basically struggling with your own ignorance about how things should be done. You could perform certain tasks one way or the other, but it takes experience to realize the flaws and virtues of each. Even after you've gotten a firm grasp of how things work, reading the code of people who have an even firmer one helps a great deal. Most would agree that the most insightful parts of any learn-a-programming-language book are the code examples, and reading a well-written open source codebase is the next level of that. So are there any out there for F#?

When executing commands like vi or calc which require input from the terminal , the command is getting executed and is waiting for the input from the user. • Maximum number of files in one ext3 directory while still getting acceptable performance?

  I have an application writing to an ext3 directory which over time has grown to roughly three million files. Needless to say, reading the file listing of this directory is unbearably slow. I don't blame ext3. The proper solution would have been to let the application code write to sub-directories such as ./a/b/c/abc.ext rather than using only ./abc.ext. I'm changing to such a sub-directory structure and my question is simply: roughly how many files should I expect to store in one ext3 directory while still getting acceptable performance? What's your experience? Or in other words; assuming that I need to store three million files in the structure, how many levels deep should the ./a/b/c/abc.ext structure be? Obviously this is a question that cannot be answered exactly, but I'm looking for a ball park estimate.

  I'm currently writing a wrapper in python for a lot of custom company tools. I'm basically going to break each tool into its own py file with a class containing the call to the tool as a method. These will all be contained in a package. Then there'll be a master class that will import all from the package, then inherit from each and every class, so as to appear as one cohesive class. masterClass.py pyPackage - __ init__.py - module1.py --class Module1 ---method tool1 - module2.py --class Module2 ---method tool2 etc Right now, I'm autogenerating the master class file to inherit from the packages modules, but I was wondering if there was a more elegant way to do it? ie from package import * class MasterClass(package.all): pass

• Which .NET exception to throw for invalid database state?

  I am writing some data access code and I want to check for potentially "invalid" data states in the database. For instance, I am returning a widget out of the database and I only expect one. If I get two, I want to throw an exception. Even though referential integrity should prevent this from occurring, I do not want to depend on the DBAs never changing the schema. I would like to use the System.IO.InvalidDataException, except that I am not dealing with a file stream so it would be misleading. I ended up going with a generic applicationexception. Anyone have a better idea?

  I know that peripheral devices such as a hard driver, a floppy driver, etc are controlled by reading/writing certain control registers on their device controllers. I am wondering about the following questions: Is it true that when these peripheral devices are plugged onto the computer, the addresses(port numbers) of their control registers are thus determined by how they are attached to the address bus (i.e. the hard-wiring)? Who makes the scheme of the port number assignment? If I was given a naked computer(with no operating system and with many peripheral devices), how could I figure out the port number assignment so I can use them to control peripheral deveices.

  Hello, I'm writing an iPad application that has a UIWebView which I open word and excel documents in, but I want the user to be able to import those documents into the iWorks applications, Pages and Numbers, just like how you can do it in Safari if you open a document. If you open a document in Safari on the iPad, there'll be a button on the top bar that says "Open in..." and you can choose applications to open in. You get the top bar to appear by tapping on middle of the page. So is there an option you can set to allow UIWebView to show up the bar and automatically detect the content type and populate the list with applications you can import in? Or do I have to build this myself? And if I have to build my own, how do I open URLs to import documents into Pages and Numbers etc? Thanks, -David

  Hi, I am working on a module whose purpose is to process Java exceptions and decide upon a strategy for dealing with them. The exceptions could be things I know about (explicit business exceptions eg TransformationException) or more general environmental stuff (JMS errors, IO errors etc) The facts inserted into the knowledge base are all the same class, and wrap (contain) an Exception. I want to write a rule that will explicitly match the exceptions I know how to deal with (eg TransformationException) and have another rule that catches 'everything else' The problem seems to me to be that for a fact containing a TransformationException, both rules will fire and the output will be uncertain. How would I go about writing such exclusive rules without relying on salience to steer the order of execution (this seems to be bad practice from what I have read)? I have a solution in place that I am not happy with whereby the outcome depends on the order in which the rules are defined in my .drl.

  Hypothetical: Let's say you are writing complex queries to a database and it is very important that the data you extracted is the correct result set (e.g., that you didn't mess up a JOIN by not using all the correct keys, and all the other things that can go wrong, et cetera). What would you rather use to do this? Would you write the query using Microsoft Access and its Design View, or would you write it in native SQL using a SQL IDE?
