• Time values not saving in Airport Base Station MAC Timed Access List

  I have an airport base station model A1354. I am attempting to setup MAC Timed Access so a laptop can only connect between 5:00AM and 11:00pm through the Airport Utility version 5.5.2 (552.11). My AEBS is running firmware version 7.5.2 When I try to enter the time values by double clicking over the time and entering 05:00 AM and 11:00PM the time values don't stay as soon as it looses focus. Instead they become what is in the following screenshot, and the laptop looses connectivity as soon as I update the base station. I also tried entering the values in military time with the same result. Any base station power users out there that know how I can get the time values to "stick"?

• Is the 4pin atx power plug required [closed]

  I know the answer is probably a resounding YES, but I just wanted to double check. I just purchased a new chassis for my PC and now my 4pin cpu power plug doesn't reach. I'm wondering if the 4 pins are required for operation, or can I get by for the weekend without it until I can go get an extension? EDIT: Looks like it is mandatory with my Mobo. I tried to post without it and i just got a blank screen. Looks like I'm getting a new adapter asap.

• Can you plug-in the battery while laptop is on AC only?

  Hello, I'm using my laptop at home with battery removed and only connected to the AC power. However I'm lacking the mobility as my power cord is kinda short. Is it safe from electrical point of view to plug in the battery while the laptop is connected to AC and disconnect the AC power afterwards? What about the opposite side of the question - is it safe (or what the damage could be) if you work on battery, plug in the AC and unplug the battery? If there are differents for different models of laptops, I'm asking about IBM Lenovo T60. Is there such thing as a 'hot-plug battery'?

• Windows 7 Wakeup from Sleep then Shutdown

  Is this caused by low battery? I have an Asus UX31A, and I left it unattended. As usual, in 5 minutes, it went to sleep mode with the lid still open. I came back a couple hours later, and I noticed the laptop was off. I was still able to turn it on by manually pressing the power button (battery was at 2% though), but I don't understand why it shut off. If it was in sleep mode and the battery was near depletion, then wouldn't that result in a "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" upon boot? Does Windows have a mechanism to wake from sleep from a super critical battery level to shut down all programs and power down the system completely? I noticed that upon booting, firefox didn't give a fit about improper shutdown. Here are my power settings btw, powercfg -h off has been ran, so hibernation is off.   Hello, I recently bought a VPS with Windows Server 2003 x64 Standard PreInstalled. the reseller gave me the Username and Password for the Parallels Power Panel and also it's address (something like this: https://??.???.???.??:4643/) I've just reinstalled the container using Virtuozzo (first I stopped the container, then reinstalled the container and the last log message was Reinstalling...) now after 2 hours I can't access the ControlPanel. what's wrong? is it normal? how long does it take to reinstall the container? why the ControlPanel is not accessible now? I'm kinda noob. Please help

• How to use MacBook Pro with external monitor / keyboard / mouse while running on battery only?

  I'm using my MacBook Pro like a desktop sometimes. But for some reason, when I unplug the Power Supply, it is impossible. The MacBook Pro immediately shuts off. When I turn it on by hitting any key on the external keyboard, it wakes up for about 10 seconds but then goes to sleep again. Sometimes I want to use my MacBook Pro without the Power plugged in to it, just to use the Battery a little bit. And also sometimes when someone else needs my Power Supply. I couldn't find an option in the system preferences. Is there an trick how to get that work?

  So my laptop just started smoking where I plug my charger in. I run a netbook, the Acer Aspire One. My charger won't charge it, because when I plug my charger into the netbook, the charging light that indicates the netbook is receiving power turns off. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot where the problem is and what should I do now? Is just my charger fried and should I replace it. Or could there also be a problem with my netbook and do I need to look for other problems?

  Hi, I'm trying to get my screen to turn off whenever I lock my screen. I know that in Power Management, there's an option to turn off the screen after a set amount of time, and I know about xset dpms force off, but the former doesn't allow me to turn off the screen from the logout menu, and the latter only turns the screen off for a short amount of time (1 minute or so. The screen just turns back on by itself). Is there a script I can modify to change what happens when "Lock screen" from the logout menu is selected, or is there a script I can add to the panel to lock the screen and then turn the monitor off (and turning it back on when I shake the mouse or something)?   A question concerning the possibility to run Photoshop as VM without violating the licence agreement (EULA) : My Adobe Photoshop is bloody slow, nd sometimes I need to launch thousands of image calculations that have to use hundreds of PSD templates. I want to increase my Photoshop calculation power by creating non-persistent virtual machines on my hosted server. Each VMm would only alive for a few seconds, just enough time to deliver the calculated file. Is this a violation of the EULA? I must clarify that I'm the only one to access my non persistent VMs.

• Microsoft mouse screws up my power settings

  Running a new computer with Windows 7 and 64-bit OS. Had a wireless Logitech mouse that worked perfectly with this set up. The mouse was old, and the buttons were sticking and causing double clicks, so I bought a new Microsoft Mobile Wireless 3000 mouse to replace it. The new mouse works perfectly, but now my screen saver is disabled and my computer won't go into sleep mode after 15 minutes as per my power setting. If I hook the Logitech mouse back up, screen saver works fine and computer goes to sleep as it should. Am I missing something, or is Microsoft's mouse just junk. Got no software with the new mouse, so no drivers seem available.

  Is it possible to have my box with an ASUS P8H77-I to automatically power on each sunday at 0:00 (for backup tasks)? I could not find such an option in the BIOS (or rather EFI). [edit] nevermind, I found it. Its called "RTC alarm date" or sth like this. Still I wonder if there was a possibility to wake the machine like every week on sunday? As it seems, I can only set either everyday, or a single day in the month. I would like to do weekly backups, but this would only allow me to do monthly backups.

• LVM incorrectly reported missing after power failure

  We have had a major power failure in the data-center. We are using a set of servers for our storage needs. The main server has several pairs of disks mirrored with mdadm. The resulting /dev/mdX are LVM physical volumes and belong to a big volume-group with all our data. After the powerloss, we had the problem that one of the mdadm devices was not auto-detected due to a missing entry in mdadm.conf. As a consequence, the volumegroup had inactive logical volumes due to the missing PV. We were able to fix the mdadm config and reboot. pvscan shows all expected PVs but one LV still does not come up. vgdisplay shows: [...] Cur PV: 3 Act PV: 2 [...] Neither vgscan nor pvscan show any missing devices. What went wrong? How can we force LVM to activate all PVs?

• IIS no longer saving session variables

  I'm running IIS v7 on a Win7 development machine. I have PHP code that saves session variables and calls them back later. This has been working on this machine for some time. For some reason now, the session variables dissapear immediatly after saving. Code that used to work fine on http://localhost/, suddenly now does not. I have tested different browsers - the vars dissapear regardless of browser. I have tested identical code on different servers. The problem exists only on this development machine. I tried some code that saves a session var, then reads it back and displays it, then shows a link to click on to read it back and display again. What happens is the session var DOES get written and read back and displayed ok. But when you click the link to view it again, it's gone. I don't recall making any changes to IIS. But I did run several malware scanners and clean-up tools. Is anyone aware of any setting in IIS that disallows session vars? Any other throughts?

  I have a small Ubuntu 9.04 router setup as a NAT box and a PPTP server. After a power failure everything except the PPTP server still works. A windows client gets to "registering your computer on the network" but then says Error 742: The remote computer does not support the required data encryption type. I did some research and I think the problem is with the ppp_mppe module. When I try to run 'modprobe ppp_mppe' it hangs indefinitely. What would cause this hang? Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this further? Thanks for the help! UPDATE: I am still having the problem, however I have found some more information. When the first user tries to connect to pptp, the process list shows modprobe sha1 running, and one instance of modprobe ppp_mppe for each connection attempt. If I killall modprobe at this point the next connection attempt works, and everything is fine until the next reboot. I'm planning to do a clean install at some point in the future but I'd really like to get to the real cause of this.

  I have absolutely no experience with databases and MySql. Now the problem is I have an embedded device running a MySQL database with a web based application. The problem is when I shutdown my embedded device it just cut off the power, and I can not have a controlled shutdown. Given this situation how can I configure MySql to prevent it from failures and in case of a failure, I should have maximum support to recover my database. While searching this, I came across InnoDB Engine as well as some configuration options to set like sync_binlog=1 & innodb_flush_log_at_trx_commit=1. I have noticed my default Engine is InnoDB and binary logs are also enabled. What are other configurations to make for best possible failure & recovery support. Updated: I will be using InnoDB engine which supports Transactions. My question is how best I can configure it (InnoDB + MySQL) so that it can provide best possible fail-safe as well as crash recovery mechanism.   I am using Wireless to connect to the internet (router). My laptop has Atheros wireless (AR 242x/542x) adapter but the router is a little bit far-away from my room so I have to use an external wireless adapter i.e. Alfa (Realtek 8187) for connectivity. However, since I have started using Ubuntu I noticed that Alfa is not working in full power, internet speed in Ubuntu is much slower than in Windows on my laptop. When I am using Windows 7 the LED (bulb) on Alfa blinks as it should, but when in Ubuntu, it doesn't blink rather it is on but very dim. Connection using Atheros adapter is also the same (slow)... I have tried 4 methods (I found on the Internet) to troubleshoot this matter but no success. It seems to me that Ubuntu/Linux is not letting these wireless adapters to operate in full strength. iwconfig shows that power management is off for both. So what's the problem? • Is it possible to power up ports on a USB hub from Ubuntu?

  I have a D-Link DUB-H7 powered USB 2.0 hub connected to my computer. Occasionally when I reboot the system, I've noticed that some of the ports on the hub get powered down: the green light next to the port is turned off, and the device attached to that port is not visible to lsusb or similar commands. Devices attached to the other ports on the hub function as normal. I am able to restore the ports by disconnecting power to the hub temporarily (from the computer, AC adapter and any devices that might provide any power such as my phone), but this is a bit of a hassle. It seems like something that might be related to power management, so is there some way you can tell the USB hub to power up through software?

  In the early days of OpenGL and DirectX, it was required that textures were powers of two. This meant that interpolation of float values could be done very quickly using shifting and such. Since OpenGL 2.0, and preceding that via an extension, non-power-of-two texture dimensions has been supported. Are there performance advantages to sticking to power-of-two textures on modern integrated and discrete GPUs? What advantages do non-power-of-two textures have, if any? Are there large populations of desktop users who don't have cards that support non-power-of-two textures?
