• Response, Result, Reply, which is best?

  I'm refactoring some client-server code and it uses the terms Response, Result & Reply for the same thing (an answer from the server). And although its not really that important it's become hard to guess which word to use while writing new code, so I'd like to unify the three terms into one and do the appropriate refactoring, but I'm not sure which word is the "best", if there is such a thing. Any suggestions based on precedence and standards towards naming for this case?

  i would love to use mod_xsendfile but i live in a shared environment which does not provide such a module. processing large files such as videos through a server-side script and sending it to the browser that way seems to be unacceptable in my case, so i am looking for a way to enable per-file authentication in such a way that is not going to consume resources much. nobody shall know what the actual path is to the file they are downloading. please suggest how to do that.

  Faced problem while setting background color for any element in Visual Studio 2010 editor. Selection color doesn't override this background color. So then it's very inconvenient to work with selections in editor. Case when only string literal is selected it's almost impossible to distinguish colors and see what part of string is selected. Is there any possibility to fix the problem by changing some options? Or it's a Visual Studio bug?

I'm really looking for something like less that I can pipe my errors into that will collapse the template parameter lists by default, maybe with some nice highlighting so that my errors are actually readable. • Java Packages in Seperate repository than others

  I was wondering if it's possible to have a java package setup using a different subversion repository than the rest. Ideally, I would probably go with a different library project, but in the case of BlackBerry, the 3rd party library linking does not work well, so I would like to just separate my UI package into a different repository than the rest so that I can control the UI better for different OS versions, but leave all the other packages the same. Is this possible?

• Is it possible to use SQL XML to insert, and get output from each record?

  I would like to perform a SQL XML insert (on MSSQL), and in this case I need to insert a list of files into the DB (this is simple enough). However, there's an auto generated PK column (ID), and I need the ID for each newly created filename without performing a 2nd query. Is this possible? I guess it doesn't matter if the result is/isn't XML, but the input certainly has to be.

When the user enters any of the following urls, I want to just serve my app as usual to them: http://www.mysite.com/ http://www.mysite.com/dog http://www.mysite.com/cat the first case works by default. I'm not sure how to get the /dog and /cat cases to work. I think I have to modify something with the url mappings to get that to work in web.xml.   I'm using GWT 1.6. I am creating a panel that contains a Button and a Label, which I then add to a FlexTable as one of its cells. The Button is not receiving any Click events. I see that the table supports determining which Cell is clicked on, but in this case, I want the Mouse events to propagate to the various widgets inside the cell. Any idea on how to do that?

• Render as html from a remote link on Rails

  On my registration form i want to show a modal (of twitter-bootstrap) when the user has a successfull signup to tell him to check his email so i put "remote: true" on my form and render a .js.erb wich shows the modal, on my controller. BUT, in case of inputs errors i need to render the page as html to refresh de form showing those errors. Can I call the controller from the remote form as JS but render as html? (or any other idea to do what i want) Thanks!

Even in this case radios are validated but error message is not displayed. I believe its due to error message's association with first radio. Disabling other radio except first works fine too.   Is it possible to set a default behaviour for custom (non-native) methods/functions in Java? For example, I would like to change the default "Function" to do a System.out.println("message") whenever called. So, when a custom method/function is being created: public String testMethod() { //custom code } it should execute the newly added default behaviour (in this case the system output), before the custom code is run. Even if this would be a bad excercise, is it possible? Maybe by extending the function class or something?
