  • RasterizerState set to null after calling DrawText in Nuclex

    - by ProgrammerAtWork
    I have the following code in XNA: // class members Text t1; Text t2; Text t3; // init // Debugfont is size 24 vectorfont t1 = MM.DebugFont24.Fill("hello"); t1 = MM.DebugFont24.Extrude("hello"); t2 = MM.DebugFont24.Fill("hello"); t2 = MM.DebugFont24.Extrude("hello"); t3 = MM.DebugFont24.Fill("hello"); t3 = MM.DebugFont24.Extrude("hello"); // Draw TextBatch test = new TextBatch(MM.GD); test.DrawText(t1, Color.Red); test.DrawText(t2, Color.Red); test.DrawText(t3, Color.Red); test.End(); //After the second call to the TextBatch, RasterizerState of the GraphicsDevice is set to null //But I don't get any runtime errors or any indication of that something is wrong. Is this supposed to happen? Or am I doing something wrong? I've discovered that this happened because culling was set to None when I was rendering textures

  • how to solve ArrayList outOfBoundsExeption?

    - by iQue
    Im getting: 09-02 17:15:39.140: E/AndroidRuntime(533): java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Invalid index 1, size is 1 09-02 17:15:39.140: E/AndroidRuntime(533): at java.util.ArrayList.throwIndexOutOfBoundsException(ArrayList.java:251) when Im killing enemies using this method: private void checkCollision() { Rect h1 = happy.getBounds(); for (int i = 0; i < enemies.size(); i++) { for (int j = 0; j < bullets.size(); j++) { Rect b1 = bullets.get(j).getBounds(); Rect e1 = enemies.get(i).getBounds(); if (b1.intersect(e1)) { enemies.get(i).damageHP(5); bullets.remove(j); Log.d("TAG", "HERE: LOLTHEYTOUCHED"); } if (h1.intersect(e1)){ happy.damageHP(5); } if(enemies.get(i).getHP() <= 0){ enemies.remove(i); } if(happy.getHP() <= 0){ //end-screen !!!!!!! } } } } using this ArrayList: private ArrayList<Enemy> enemies = new ArrayList<Enemy>(); and adding to array like this: public void createEnemies() { Bitmap bmp = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.drawable.female); if (enemyCounter < 24) { enemies.add(new Enemy(bmp, this, controls)); } enemyCounter++; } I dont really understand what the problem is, Ive been looking around for a while but cant really find anything that helps me. If you know or if you can link me someplace where they have a solution for a similar problem Ill be a very happy camper! Thanks for ur time.

  • Draw contour around object in Opengl

    - by Maciekp
    I need to draw contour around 2d objects in 3d space. I tried drawing lines around object(+points to fill the gap), but due to line width, some part of it(~50%) was covering object. I tried to use stencil buffer, to eliminate this problem, but I got sth like this(contour is green): http://goo.gl/OI5uc (sorry I can't post images, due to my reputation) You can see(where arrow points), that some parts of line are behind object, and some are above. This changes when I move camera, but always there is some part, that is covering it. Here is code, that I use for drawing object: glColorMask(1,1,1,1); std::list<CObjectOnScene*>::iterator objIter=ptr->objects.begin(),objEnd=ptr->objects.end(); int countStencilBit=1; while(objIter!=objEnd) { glColorMask(1,1,1,1); glStencilFunc(GL_ALWAYS,countStencilBit,countStencilBit); glStencilOp(GL_REPLACE,GL_KEEP,GL_REPLACE ); (*objIter)->DrawYourVertices(); glStencilFunc(GL_NOTEQUAL,countStencilBit,countStencilBit); glStencilOp(GL_KEEP,GL_KEEP,GL_REPLACE); (*objIter)->DrawYourBorder(); ++objIter; ++countStencilBit; } I've tried different settings of stencil buffer, but always I was getting sth like that. Here is question: 1.Am I setting stencil buffer wrong? 2. Are there any other simple ways to create contour on such objects? Thanks in advance. EDIT: 1. I don't have normals of objects. 2. Object can be concave. 3. I can't use shaders(see below why).

  • System hangs at glReadPixel call with GL_TEXTURE_2D_ARRAY for texturing

    - by Roshan
    I am calling glReadPixel after glDrawArray call. I am rendering a geometry with 3D texture on it as a target GL_TEXTURE_2D_ARRAY. My systems hangs at glreadpixel call. When i use target as GL_TEXTURE_3D the issue does not occurs and it correctly reads the framebuffer contents. glReadPixels(0, 0, GetViewportWidth(), GetViewportHeight(), GL_RGBA, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, (GLvoid *)rendered_pixels); I am using SNORM textures with GL_byte data in glTeximage3D call and I am not calling glPixelStorei, is it because of this? What should be the parameter for pixelstore call?

  • Why are only some of my objects being rendered?

    - by BleedObsidian
    Every time I create a new asteroid the previous one is no longer rendered? • XNA Sprite Clipping Incorrectly During Rotation

    - by user1226947
    I'm having a bit of trouble getting my sprites in XNA to draw. Seemingly if you use SpriteBatch to draw then XNA will not draw it if for example (mPosition.X + mSpriteTexture.Width < 0) as it assumes it is offscreen. However, it seems to make this decision before it applies a rotation. This rotation can mean that even though (mPosition.X + mSpriteTexture.Width < 0), some of the sprite is still visible on screen. My question is, is there a way to get it to draw further outside the viewport or temporarily disable sprite clipping during a certain spriteBatch.draw(...)? sb.Draw(mSpriteTexture, mPosition, new Rectangle(0, 0, mSpriteTexture.Width, mSpriteTexture.Height), Color.White, Globals.VectorToAngle(mOrientation), new Vector2(halfWidth, halfHeight), scale, SpriteEffects.None, 0);

  • How to animate the sprite along with action in Cocos2d?

    - by user1201239
    Cocos2d-android - I have an animation which has 5 Frames they are close cropped images. Now I want Sprite to do animation as well as Move in X direction.i.e. I have a player running which gets collided with obstacle and falls down .. Now I want sprite to run animation as well as moveBy in -ve x direction gameOverAnimation =CCSprite.sprite("gmovr00") gameOverAnimation.setAnchorPoint(0, 0); gameOverAnimation.setPosition(340.0f, 200.0f); addChild(gameOverAnimation,10); CCIntervalAction action1 = CCAnimate.action(mEndAnimation, false); action1.setDuration(1.0f); CCIntervalAction delay = CCDelayTime.action(0.68f); CCMoveBy actionBy = CCMoveBy.action(1.0f, CGPoint.ccp(-340,0)); CCIntervalAction seq1 = CCSpawn.actions(action1,actionBy); //CCSpawn spawn = CCSpawn.actions(action1, actionBy); CCSequence sequence1 = CCSequence.actions(seq1,CCCallFuncN.action(this,"gameOver")); gameOverAnimation.runAction(sequence1); Above code makes animation run first then moved in y direction Thanks for the help.. And can some one explaing me the concept of time with frame Animation or good example ?

  • How to ignore collision between two objects

    - by eren_trigger
    I have a player that shoots in the direction that it is facing. However, the shot that is created when I click, also destroys the player. How would I make the shot ignore collision with the player? Or better yet, how to make a shot destroy anything it touches and destroy itself without affecting the player? This is the code that controls collisions: function OnTriggerEnter (col : Collider) { Destroy(col.gameObject); } The shot is a trigger, but the player isn't. Not sure if this changes anything in this case. Thanks in advance. EDIT: http://gfycat.com/TediousAridFeline

  • Recreating Doodle Jump in Canvas - Platforms spawning out of reach

    - by kushsolitary
    I have started to recreate Doodle Jump in HTML using Canvas. Here's my current progress. As you can see, if you play it for a few seconds, some platforms will be out of the player's reach. I don't know why is this happening. Here's the code which is responsible for the re-spawning of platforms. //Movement of player affected by gravity if(player.y > (height / 2) - (player.height / 2)) { player.y += player.vy; player.vy += gravity; } else { for(var i = 0; i < platforms.length; i++) { var p = platforms[i]; if(player.vy < 0) { p.y -= player.vy; player.vy += 0.08; } if(p.y > height) { position = 0; var h = p.y; platforms[i] = new Platform(); } if(player.vy >= 0) { player.y += player.vy; player.vy += gravity; } } } Also, here's the platform class. //Platform class function Platform(y) { this.image = new Image(); this.image.src = platformImg; this.width = 105; this.height = 25; this.x = Math.random() * (width - this.width); this.y = y || position; position += height / platformCount; //Function to draw it this.draw = function() { try { ctx.drawImage(this.image, this.x, this.y, this.width, this.height); } catch(e) {} }; } You can also see the whole code on the link I provided. Also, when a platform goes out of the view port, the jump animation becomes quirky. I am still trying to find out what's causing this but can't find any solution.

  • How do I detect if sprite should be going up or down?

    - by Geore Shg
    I use the following code to detect if a sprite should be going up or down: If (pos.Y + 100) >= Sprite.BottomY Then Going_up = True pos.Y = Sprite.BottomY - 130 End If If pos.Y <= Sprite.TopY Then Going_up = False pos.Y = Sprite.TopY - 1 Vel.Y = 3 End If Then my response code: If Going_up Then Vel.Y -= CSng(gameTime.ElapsedGameTime.TotalMilliseconds / 40) pos.Y -= Vel.Y Else Vel.Y += CSng(gameTime.ElapsedGameTime.TotalMilliseconds / 40) pos.Y += Vel.Y End If Sprite.velocity = Vel Sprite.position = pos But it's pretty terrible. It only works when the sprite starts at the top, and when I want to change the BottomY and TopY, it just starts glitching. What is a better to detect if the sprite should be going up or down?

  • Depth is disabled - How to turn on?

    - by marc wellman
    In XNA 3.1 is there any other way to disable depth in 3D Worlds using DirectX models other than GraphicsDevice.RenderState.DepthBufferEnable = false; ? The reason for my question is I have quite a huge program which offers a 3D World with a couple of 3D DirectX models inside. Depth was never an issue since it ever worked fine but since a few days after doing some modifications my models are all depth-translucent i.e. depth-buffering and/or culling seems to be disabled. But in my whole source code I never touch any of the options related to Depth or Culling which means I never turn these settings on explicitly nor turn it off somewhere. So I am searching for some other statement maybe related to the GraphicsDevice that implicitly turns depth off - but I can't find it. (Sorry that I don't post any source code but I have too much source code and I simply don't know where to search) UPDATE: These are a couple of simple objects seen with correct depth. These are the same objects in their current state.

  • Collision 2D Quads

    - by Vico Pelaez
    I want to detect collision between two 2D squares, one square is static and the other one moves according to keyboard arrows. I have implemented some code, however nothing happens when they overlap each other and what I tried to achieve in the code was to detect an overlapping between them. I think I am either not understanding the concept really well or that because one of the squares is moving this is not working. Please I would really appreciate your help. • Drawing visible tiles - side scrolling

    - by Troubleshoot
    Currently I'm calling drawMap every time repaint is called. This is the code I've written for my drawMap method so far. public void drawMap(Graphics2D g2d) { float cameraX = Player.getX() - (Frame.CANVAS_WIDTH / 2); float cameraY = Player.getY() - (Frame.CANVAS_HEIGHT / 2); int tileX = (int) cameraX; int tileY = (int) cameraY; int xIndent = 0, yIndent = 0; int a = 0, b = 0; while (tileX % TILE_SIZE != 0) { tileX--; xIndent++; } while (tileY % TILE_SIZE != 0) { tileY--; yIndent++; } for (int y = tileY; y < tileY + Frame.CANVAS_HEIGHT; y += Map.TILE_SIZE) { for (int x = tileX; x < tileX + Frame.CANVAS_WIDTH; x += Map.TILE_SIZE) { if ((y / TILE_SIZE < 0 || x / TILE_SIZE < 0) || (y / TILE_SIZE > columnSize)) break; g2d.drawImage(map[y / TILE_SIZE][x / TILE_SIZE], a - xIndent, b - yIndent, null); a += TILE_SIZE; } a = 0; b += TILE_SIZE; } } The idea behind this is that it gets the camera position and draws the map relative to the player position. However, instead of the player being in the center of the screen all the time, the player actually moves away from the center as it scrolls to the right, and moves towards to center as it scrolls to the left. I've been trying to pinpoint what I've done wrong but I can't seem to find it. My code also seems quite messy, so am I doing this the correct way?

  • movement of sprites with kinect and xna

    - by pablopp83
    im working on a proyect with kinect sdk and xna 4.0. i need take the position of the hands and draw a sprite over it. im doing it directly and, because of that, i get a "trembling hands" effect. so, i was thinking on make the sprite move from the previous position to the new one, given in every frame by the new hand position. this way, the sprite does not jump from one position to another. this is working just fine, but im using a constant value for the velocity, and i really would like to use a variable velocity given by the difference between the prev and the new position. this is, if the hand move more quickly in the reality, the velocity will be higher. I really dont have a clue on how to make this works. can somebody point me in the right direction? thanks.

  • Fast lighting with multiple lights

    - by codymanix
    How can I implement fast lighting with multiple lights? I don't want to restrain the player, he can place an unlimited number and possibly overlapping (point) lights into the level. The problem is that shaders which contain dynamic loops which would be necessary to calculate the lighting tend to be very slow. I had the idea that if it could be possible at compiletime to compile a shader n times where n is the number of lights. If the number n is known at compiletime, the loops can be unrolled automatically. Is this possible to generate n versions of the same shader with just a different number of lights? At runtime I could then decide which shader to use for which part of the level.

  • Are there any reasons to use Legacy (2.X) OpenGL?

    - by user27886
    The benefits are well documented of the Modern OpenGL 3.X & 4.X API's, but I'm wondering if there are ANY benefits to keeping with the old OpenGL, Or if learning OpenGL 2.X is a complete waste of time now no matter what? Particularly I've wondered if using the OpenGL 2.X API is appropriate if the target platform had graphics hardware capable of only up to OpenGL 2.X. Would a driver update on said target platform allow programs compiled using the Modern OpenGL API's to be released on this old platform? If they both work, which would be faster? Thanks

  • Maya is lagging in a specific way...?

    - by Aerovistae
    My Maya installation worked perfectly. It is not my computer. Something caused it to stop working overnight, somehow. When I try to drag a vertex or something like that, it moves the vertex, but then I have to click like 3 times somewhere outside the mesh before the actual mesh will catch up and follow the vertex. Until I do that, it just stays as it was, with a floating vertex somewhere inside it or outside it. It makes modeling borderline impossible and completely infuriating. What ought to be happening is what we're all used to-- as I move the vertex, the mesh follows it actively, so I can see what it looks like at every given moment until I release the vertex in its new position. Other weird thing: this only applies to complex meshes, like a couple thousand faces. A simple cube works fine. What gives?? Anybody?

  • How can I read a portion of one Minecraft world file and write it into another?

    - by RapierMother
    I'm looking to read block data from one Minecraft world and write the data into certain places in another. I have a Minecraft world, let's say "TemplateWorld", and a 2D list of Point objects. I'm developing an application that should use the x and y values of these Points as x and z reference coordinates from which to read constant-sized areas of blocks from the TemplateWorld. It should then write these blocks into another Minecraft world at constant y coordinates, with x & z coordinates determined based on each Point's index in the 2D list. The issue is that, while I've found a decent amount of information online regarding Minecraft world formats, I haven't found what I really need: more of a breakdown by hex address of where/what everything is. For example, I could have the TemplateWorld actually be a .schematic file rather than a world; I just need to be able to read the bytes of the file, know that the actual block data starts always at a certain address (or after a certain instance of FF, etc.), and how it's stored. Once I know that, it's easy as pie to just read the bytes and store them.

  • Does Windows 8 still support DirectX 9?

    - by SullY
    Is Windows 8 supporting DirectX 9? Because I was looking through some samples written in C++ and DirectX 9 made for Windows 8. It wasn't that, like I know it ( look here http://directxtutorial.com/Lesson.aspx?lessonid=111-4-2 ). E.g. Inizialising DirectX with COM: ComPtr<ID3D11Device1> dev; ComPtr<ID3D11DeviceContext1> devcon; It's just weird because I know it with the old way: ID3D11Device *dev; ID3D11DeviceContext *devcon; ( I hope you understand what I want to tell ) I hope it hasn't change completely due the released their new OS.

  • OpenGL render to texture causing edge artifacts

    - by mysticalOso
    This is my first post here so any help would be massively appreciated :) I'm using C++ with SDL and OpenGL 3.3 When rendering directly to screen I get the following result And when I render to texture I this happens Anti-aliasing is turned off for both. I'm guessing this has something to do with depth buffer accuracy but I've tried a lot of different methods to improve the result but, no success :( I'm currently using the following code to set up my FBO: GLuint frameBufferID; glGenFramebuffers(1, &frameBufferID); glBindFramebuffer(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, frameBufferID); glGenTextures(1, &coloursTextureID); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, coloursTextureID); glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D,0,GL_RGB,SCREEN_WIDTH,SCREEN_HEIGHT,0,GL_RGB,GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE,NULL); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D,GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER,GL_NEAREST); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D,GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER,GL_NEAREST); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S, GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T, GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); //Depth buffer setup GLuint depthrenderbuffer; glGenRenderbuffers(1, &depthrenderbuffer); glBindRenderbuffer(GL_RENDERBUFFER, depthrenderbuffer); glRenderbufferStorage(GL_RENDERBUFFER, GL_DEPTH_COMPONENT24, SCREEN_WIDTH,SCREEN_HEIGHT); glFramebufferRenderbuffer(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, GL_DEPTH_ATTACHMENT, GL_RENDERBUFFER, depthrenderbuffer); glFramebufferTexture(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0, coloursTextureID, 0); GLenum DrawBuffers[1] = {GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0}; glDrawBuffers(1, DrawBuffers); // if(glCheckFramebufferStatus(GL_FRAMEBUFFER) != GL_FRAMEBUFFER_COMPLETE) return false; Thank you so much for any help :)

  • Balancing Player vs. Monsters: Level-Up Curves

    - by ashes999
    I've written a fair number of games that have RPG-like "levelling up," where the player gains experience for killing monsters/enemies, and eventually, reaches a new level, where their stats increase. How do you find a balance between player growth, monster strength, and difficulty? The extreme ends of this spectrum are: Player levels up really fast and blows away monsters without much effort Monsters are incredibly strong and even at low levels, are very difficult to beat I've also tried a strange situation of making enemies relative to players, i.e. an enemy will always be at 50% or 100% or 150% of player stats (thus requiring the player to use other techniques instead of brute strength to succeeed). But where's the balance, and how do you find it? Edit: For example, I am expecting to hear things like: Balance high instead of balance low (200 HP and 20 str is easier to balance than 20 HP and 2 str) Look at easiest vs. hardest monsters, and see what you have in terms of a range

  • viewing fbx files in windows via xna 4.0

    - by user17753
    I've made some models in Blender and exported them in Autodesk fbx format. I'm trying to view them using XNA 4.0 Refresh. Loading them isn't much an issue, but I'm not familiar enough with XNA 4.0 to, well basically I want to load in the model at say the origin (0,0,0) world coordinates, and then rotate and/or zoom the camera about the world coordinates origin as well so that I can test the model. Typically the mouse, and maybe some arrow keys for zooming/rotating the camera. Anyways, this seems like a simple task and I shouldn't have to re-invent this, isn't there a skeleton code somewhere for this kind of thing for XNA 4.0? I couldn't find a solid example for this on the web. I found a couple that seemed like they might work for xbox, but I'm trying to do this on windows only. Anyways, just looking to be pointed in the right direction on this one, thanks.

  • Player Movement DirectX

    - by SullY
    I'm reading on a Book that's about Gamedevelopment with C++ and DirectX 9. There is something that interrests me: It says that playermovements are increasing with the power of the CPU. Becouse a faster CPU will move the player with every frame ( better CPU = better FPS ) To bypass it, it says you have just to multiplicate time*movementfactor . I'd like to know is there an another way to bypass it ?

  • failbit is being set and I can't figure out why

    - by felipedrl
    I'm writing a MIDI file loader. Everything is going fine until at some track I get a failbit exception while trying to read from file. I can't figure out why, I've checked the file size and it's ok too. Upon checking "errno" and it returns "0". Any ideas? Thanks. The snippet follows: file.read(reinterpret_cast<char*>(&mHeader.id), sizeof(MidiHeader)); mTracks = new MidiTrack[mHeader.nTracks]; for (uint i = 0; i < mHeader.nTracks; ++i) { // this read fails on 6th i. I've checked hexadecimal file and it's // ok so far. file.read(reinterpret_cast<char*>(&mTracks[i].id), sizeof(uint)); if (file.fail()) { std::cerr << errno << std::endl; massert(false); } massert(mTracks[i].id == 0x6B72544D); file.read(reinterpret_cast<char*>(&mTracks[i].size), sizeof(uint)); mTracks[i].size = swapBytes(mTracks[i].size); mTracks[i].data = new char[mTracks[i].size]; file.read(mTracks[i].data, mTracks[i].size * sizeof(char)); totalBytesRead += 8 + mTracks[i].size; massert(totalBytesRead <= fileSize); }
