  • effective counter for unique number of visits in PHP & MySQL

    Hello, I am creating a counter for unique number of visits on a post, so what I have until now is a table for storing data like this; cvp_post_id | cvp_ip | cvp_user_id In cases a registered user visits a post, for the first time a record is inserted with cpv_post_id and cvp_user_id, so for his next visit I query the table and if the record is available I do not count him as a new visitor. In cases of an anonymous user the same happens but now the cvp_ip and cpv_post_id are used. My concerns is that I do a query every time anyone visits a post for checking if there has been a visit, what would be a more effective way for doing this?

  • PHP: csv generator creates extra field

    I'm coding a script that takes one csv file to transform it into another one. Basically, two foreach loops are used: one to iterate records and another to iterate fields. Certain fields (cno 25, 26, 44) for each record needs to be modified. The problem is that each modificatino creates an extra empty field, i.e. the code $colStr .= '"' . $col . '";'; works but not any of the code in the if statements. What I am stuck on is instead of showing seperate weights, I need to show a total weight. For example, if the product was ordered three times, and it weighs 7kg, the code at the moment is showing: Product 7.00 7.00 7.00 How would I make it show the total weight, 21kg?

    I am trying to measure the time a script takes to upload a file to a PHP script, inside the receiving script. " seconds."; I've submitted 4MB, 25MB, 100MB and 1.4GB files. They took anything from a fraction of a second, to almost a minute, yet the script above always yielded 0 seconds. NOTE: I know that this is a duplicate question, but the accepted answer on the other question did not work for me (at least, initially): Detect how long it takes for a file to upload (PHP) I've tried it using PHP 5.3.3 with Apache 2.2.16 on Ubuntu 10.4. UPDATE: I've discovered that both the Apache header and Ajax solutions work. In fact, the solution on the duplicate question also works. The critical element to making these solutions work is to ensure that the following values in the php.ini are sufficiently high: memory_limit = 1000M upload_max_filesize = 1000M post_max_size = 1000M I am accepting the Apache header solution, since it only uses PHP.

I have table named inventory which has: trans_id trans_items items -> item_id trans_user employees -> person_id trans_date trans_comment trans_inventory As you can see above, trans_items is a foreign key in items table, and trans_user is a foreign key in employees table. Now what I want to do is to display in HTML the inventory table, but instead of displaying the item id, I want the ITEM NAME to be displayed. Here is what I have done.     Hello all, I use the following code to see how long a user is on a particular page. I use a hidden image with a src attribute to this script: $timer_seconds = 1; while(!connection_aborted()) { echo "\n"; flush(); sleep(1); $timer_seconds++; } I sometimes find this can be off by 5-10 seconds! I am guessing its the load of the server that effects the timing?? Is there anyway I can make this accurate? Thanks all for any help.

    I'm not sure if this is possible, I've been googling for a solution... But, essentially, I have a very large file, the lines of which I want to store in an array. Thus, I'm using file(), but is there a way to do that in batches? So that every,say, 100 lines it creates, it "pauses"? I think there's likely to be something I can do with a foreach loop or something, but I'm not sure that I'm thinking about it the right way... Like $i=0; $j=0; $throttle=100; foreach($files as $k => $v) { if($i < $j+$throttle && $i > $j) { $lines[] = file($v); //Do some other stuff, like importing into a db } $i++; $j++; } But, I think that won't really work because $i & $j will always be equal...     I have a membership based website and im planning on implementing a referral system. My website is credit based, the idea is that if User X refers User Y, then User X gets 100 bonus credits. Has anybody built a referral system before and if so what obstacles should I bear in mind? I've had a snoop round SO tonight but couldn't find any suitable answers. My theory is to give each user a random string which is generated and stored in the DB when they sign up, The user will then be presented with a URL incl. that string which when they pass to somebody (User Z), User Z is then sent to a page, the page then uses the GET method to gather the Random string and update the DB Row they currently occupy, does this sound feasible or could it easily be breached?     Hey guys. I'm running a script that looks for a specific term in a pdf file. Well, actually I'm reading the pdf file as a txt file and look for the term there. The script processes over 20k files. But, unexpectedly, the script breaks after it hits a file that is over 50mb long. It stops. What could the reason be?
