• Variable length Blob in hibernate?

  I have a byte[] member in one of my persistable classes. Normally, I'd just annotate it with @Lob and @Column(name="foo", size=). In this particular case, however, the length of the byte[] can vary a lot (from ~10KB all the way up to ~100MB). If I annotate the column with a size of 128MB, I feel like I'll be wasting a lot of space for the small and mid-sized objects. Is there a variable length blob type I can use? Will hibernate take care of all of this for me behind the scenes without wasting space? What's the best way to go about this? Thanks!

• sqlcipher command line not working

  I have a encrypted sqlite db and its key. (Which is generated by an android program). However, when I open the db in command line I can not read the db. The command line tool is installed by: brew install sqlcipher I open the database by: sqlcipher EnDB.db >pragma key="6b74fcd"; >select * from bizinfo; It keeps telling me "Error: file is encrypted or is not a database" However, if I open the database file with gui app sqlite database browser (which is a windows program and I run it in wine). It pops up a window for me to enter the key, with 6b74fcd as the key it successfully read the database. As I want to automatically process the db in the future, I can not depend on the GUI. Do you know why the command line is not working?

• Problems with XAML WPF 4.0 Editor in VS2010

  Wondering if anybody else has found some very odd behaviour with the XAML/WPF 4 editor in VS2010. This only occurs if the project is using .NET 4. Whenever I tried to open a XAML document for editing, the window would appear to open for a split second and then vanish, but VS2010 would still list the window as open. The fault was eventually traced to having the "Reuse current document window, if saved" option under "Documents" in the "Environment" options checked. Once this was unchecked XAML 4 files opened as expected. As I said, this only appears to occur on projects targeted at .NET Framework 4 - those targeted at 3.5 worked without a problem, and the "Reuse current document window, if saved" appears to work fine on other files.

  I have two Windows Server 2003 machines sitting in a network. Server B has port 25 open and can relay emails to the local network's smtp server. Server A does not have port 25 open. How can I set it up to send emails through another port to the SMTP server? I am thinking if I can setup a local SMTP communication between my servers on a different port and let Server B send Server A's emails. Is that possible?

• Grand Central Strategy for Opening Multiple Files

  I have a working implementation using Grand Central dispatch queues that (1) opens a file and computes an OpenSSL DSA hash on "queue1", (2) writing out the hash to a new "side car" file for later verification on "queue2". I would like to open multiple files at the same time, but based on some logic that doesn't "choke" the OS by having 100s of files open and exceeding the hard drive's sustainable output. Photo browsing applications such as iPhoto or Aperture seem to open multiple files and display them, so I'm assuming this can be done. I'm assuming the biggest limitation will be disk I/O, as the application can (in theory) read and write multiple files simultaneously. Any suggestions? TIA

• Way to get VS 2008 to stop forcing indentation on namespaces?

  I've never really been a big fan of the way most editors handle namespaces. They always force you to add an extra pointless level of indentation. For instance, I have a lot of code in a page that I would much rather prefer formatted as namespace mycode{ class myclass{ void function(){ foo(); } void foo(){ bar(); } void bar(){ //code.. } } } and not something like namespace mycode{ class myclass{ void function(){ foo(); } void foo(){ bar(); } void bar(){ //code.. } } } Honestly, I don't really even like the class thing being indented most of the time because I usually only have 1 class per file. And it doesn't look as bad here, but when you get a ton of code and lot of scopes, you can easily have indentation that forces you off the screen, and plus here I just used 2-space tabs and not 4-space as is used by us. Anyway, is there some way to get Visual Studio to stop trying to indent namespaces for me like that?

  I have a default amazon ec2 instance with 8GB root volume size. I am running out of space. I have: Detach the current EBS volume in AWS Management Console (Web). Create snapshot of this volume. Created a new Volume with 50G space with my snapshot. Attach the new volume back to the instance to /dev/sda1 However, when I reconnect to the account with: > df -h I can see from the management console that my new Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/xvda1 8256952 8173624 0 100% / tmpfs 308508 40 308468 1% /dev/shm It's still not using my new volume's size, how to make this work?

But when I open https://...../foo/nonexisting.html an empty page is displayed. If I remove the <error-page>...</error-page> code from web.xml and open https://...../foo/nonexisting.html then tomcats own 404 is displayed. Any hints?

  I am using C#.net application with oledbConnection to open database in exclusive mode what exactly process in backend when we open database in exclusive mode , it not increse size of database compare to shared mode connectivity. Is it doing Compat or Repair when it close connection of Exclusive Mode?? As we are facing unExpected Errors at time of open connection using Exclusive mode & its come abnormally even we have dispossed all connection properly.   I have a Comcast SMCD3G modem/router and I've been having issues getting the port to forward - When I check an online "open-port-checker" it says the port is forwarded/they can see the port on my IP. (1 Static IP is assigned to the modem) But when I try to access port 80 for example on a browser, it times out. Also when I try to remote desktop to the server (Windows Server 2008 R2) it doesn't work, yet canyouseeme.org says it is open. Any ideas as to what the problem could be?

I have created my document, and made a web page with a meta refresh tag, along the lines of this: <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3;http://example.com/download.epl2" /> I specify that the document has a content-type of application/x-epl2, and I have associated .epl2 files on my computer with a program that silently sends them to the printer. I have put the website into my trusted sites zone. Currently Internet Explorer pops up the "Open, Save, Cancel" dialog box with no option to automatically open the file. Is there a setting in IE6/7/8 that I can use to have IE just open the file without prompting?

• jquery ui modal dialog problems in IE

  I use jquery ui dialog widget. Everything works fine in FF, Opera etc., except IE. The problem is that when dialog is opened in Internet Explorer, some space (not covered with that "modal gray layer") is added at the bottom of the document, and page is scrolled to the bottom. So I don't even see the dialog, I have to scroll up, to see it fully. Anyone had that problems? Any solutions? EDIT: now I see, that this "bottom space" is also added in FireFox, but it doesn't scroll to it like in IE.

  Hello I have a wx.FileDialog (with the wx.FD_OPEN flag) & I would like to know if I can (& how) I could change the button in the bottom right of the FileDialog from "Open" to "Create" or "Delete", etc. What I am doing is I have a button with the text "Delete Portfolio", when pressed it opens a FileDialog & allows the user to select a portfolio file(.db) to delete. So instead of the File Dialog's bottom right confirm button displaying "Open" I would like to be able to change the text to "Confirm" or "Delete" or whatever. Is this possible, its a rather superficial thing to do, but if the button says open when the user wants to select a file to delete, it can be a little confusing even if the title of the dialog says "please select a file to delete"

  Hi folks, I must say that despite this being a newb question, I don't think I have totally mastered HTML a tags. Whenever I want to open a link in a new tab I add target="_blank", works fine in chrome and firefox. Not in IE7-8. I think the behaviour might have something to do with the DOCTYPE, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm currently using HTML 4.01 Strict. I close the CU windows and everything works fine until I close the application, when Delphi shows the CPU window one more time. If I run the app from outside IDE, it works fine. Looks like the debugger has something to say to me, but I don't know what.

  I have some encrypted pdf files that have no problem and in my last windows, I could open them easily with Adobe Reader 9.2 and other pdf readers. But now, I can only open non-encrypted pdf files and one encrypted file with Adobe Reader. every time I open almost any encrypted pdf, it closes itself. Also, when I try to search a folder for a keyword with Foxit Reader, once it closed. This is not related to Adobe Reader, because I have the same problem with Word 2007.
