  • A two player game over the intranet..

    Hi everybody.. I am a student of 3rd year engineering and only a novice in my programming skills. I need some help with my project.. I wish to develop a two player game to be played over the network (Intranet). I want to develop a simple website with a few html pages for this.My ideas for the project run as follows: 1.People can log in from different systems and check who ever is online on the network currently. the page also shows who is playing with whom. 2.If a person is interested in playing with a player who is currently online, he sends a request of which the other player is somehow notified( using a message or an alert on his profile page..) 3.If the player accepts the request, a game is started. This is exactly where I am clueless.. How can I make them play the game? I need to develop a turn based game with two players, eg chessboard.. how can I do this? The game has to be played live.. and it is time tracked. i need your help with coding the above.. the other features i wish to include are: 4.The game could not be abruptly terminated by any one if the users.The request to terminate the game should be sent to the other player first and only if he accepts can the game be terminated. Whoever wins the game would get a plus 10 on their credit and if he terminated he gets a minus 10. The credits remains constant even if he loses but the success percentage is reduced. 6.The player with highest winning percentage is projected as the player of the week on the home page and he can post a challenge to all others.. I only have an intermediate knowledge of core java and know the basics of Swing and Awt. I am not at all familiar with networking in java right now. I have 5 to 6 weeks of time for developing the project but I hope to learn the things before I start my project. i would prefer to use a lan to illustrate the project and I know only java,jsp,oracle,html and bit of xml to develop my proj. Also I wish to know if I can code this within 6 weeks, would it be too difficult or complicated? Please spare some time to tell me. Please.. please.. I need your suggestions and help.. thank you so much..

  • Running a Java program with input from a file

    I am writing a program that reads the input from a file and then prints it to the screen. When I run it without taking the input from the file, it works perfectly fine. However, every time I try to run it from the file it gives me an "Exception in thread "main" java.util.NoSuchElementException: No line found at" error that occurs every place the input is suppose to be read. I have no idea what is going on.

  • Spinning a circle in J2ME using a Canvas.

    Hello all! I have a problem where I need to make a multi-colored wheel spin using a Canvas in J2ME. What I need to do is have the user increase the speed of the spin or slow the spin of the wheel. I have it mostly worked out (I think) but can't think of a way for the wheel to spin without causing my cellphone to crash. Does anyone have any tips or ideas how I could automate the spin so you do not have the press the button every time you want it to spin? (P.S - I have been lurking for a while, but this is my first post. If it's too general or asking for too much info (sorry if it is) and I either remove it or fix it. Thank you!)

    Write a static method in Java : public static void sortByFour (int[] arr) That receives as a paramater an array full of non-negative numbers (zero or positive) and sorts the array in the following way : In the beginning of the array all the numbers that devide by four without a remainder will appear. After them all the numbers in the array that devide by 4 with a remainder of 1 will appear. After them all the numbers in the array that devide by 4 with a remainder of 2 will appear. In the end of the array all the rest numbers (those who divide by 4 with the remainder 3) will appear. (The order of the numbers in each group doesn't matter) The method must be the most efficient it can.   • Help with shopping cart in javascript

    Hey guys, I'm having problems with my shopping cart. What I am trying to do is make a function that will add an item the cart and then and function that will view the cart and show the details. But what I have got so far does not do that, it just simply adds and goes straight to view cart. Also I wanted to store the name of each items in different global arrays (name, price and sum) but I can't get it work that way. Can any help me overcome this problem?   • Read from file in eclipse

    I'm trying to read from a text file to input data to my java program. However, eclipse continuosly gives me a Source not found error no matter where I put the file. I've made an additional sources folder in the project directory, the file in question is in both it and the bin file for the project and it still can't find it. I even put a copy of it on my desktop and tried pointing eclipse there when it asked me to browse for the source lookup path. No matter what I do it can't find the file. here's my code in case it's pertinent: System.out.println(System.getProperty("user.dir")); File file = new File("file.txt"); Scanner scanner = new Scanner(file); in addition, it says the user directory is the project directory and there is a copy there too.   • Fastest way to find sum of digits on big numbers

    I have some big numbers (again) and i need to find if the sum of the digits is an even number. I tried this: finding the sum of the digits with a while loop and then checking if that sum % 2 equals 0 and it's working but it's too slow for big numbers, because i am given intervals of numbers and if the input is 1999999 19999999999 then my program fails, i cannot complete within the time limit which is 0,1 sec. What to do ? Is there any other faster way to do this ? EDIT: The input 1999999 19999999999 means it will start with 1999999 and check all the numbers like i wrote above until 19999999999, and because we are talking about big numbers (< 2^30) my program is not worthy.

  • Can't get Jacobi algorithm to work in Objective-C

    Hi, For some reason, I can't get this program to work. I've had other CS majors look at it and they can't figure it out either. This program performs the Jacobi algorithm (you can see step-by-step instructions and a MATLAB implementation here). BTW, it's different from the Wikipedia article of the same name. Since NSArray is one-dimensional, I added a method that makes it act like a two-dimensional C array. After running the Jacobi algorithm many times, the diagonal entries in the NSArray (i[0][0], i[1][1], etc.) are supposed to get bigger and the others approach 0. For some reason though, they all increase exponentially. For instance, i[2][4] should equal 0.0000009, not 9999999, while i[2][2] should be big.     i just moved from C to C++, and now work with lists. i have a class called "message", and i need to have a class called "line", which should have a list of messages in its properties. as i learned, the object's properties should be initialized in the constructor's initialization list, and i had the "urge" to initialize the messages list in addition to the rest of the properties (some strings and doubles). is that "urge" justified? does the list need to be initialized? thank you in advance

  • C# Finding 2 positions 1-dimArray

    Hello, In a method i am calculating the longest row of elements. The 1-dim array is filled up with random values (0 or 1). The method looks up the longest row (being 0 or 1, whatever is the longest). Meaning in for example: 1110100 --> the longest row would be 3 (3 * 1) 0110000 --> the longest row would be 4 (4 * 0) My problem is i am trying to perform some type of linear search to show the position of the row in the array. The first example has the longest row of 3 elements (3 times 1). For 1110100 the position in the array would be 0 - 2 (index) For 0110000 the position in the array would be 3 - 6 (index) I have been trying with foreaches, for loops etc..but i cannot seem to get the proper indexes of both. Cannot seem to display both positions properly. For the first example the correct output wouldbe: The largest row of same elements of the array consists of 3 elements on the position 0 - 2.
