• SQL Server version of MySQL's group_concat and escaped strings

  I only have the Express versions of MS SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio. Given that I can't create a SQL Server project and therefore CLR solutions are out of the question, I've attempted to use select col1, stuff( ( select ' ' + col2 from StrConcat t1 where t2.col1 = t1.col1 for xml path('') ),1,1,'') from StrConcat t2 group by col1 order by col1 to get a row concatenated col2. col2 is a varchar field with some control characters like & and \n. When it is concatenated with the above SQL, it appears to escape those control characters ie. & becomes & amp ; and \n becomes &#xOD, which is not what I want it to do. So, the question is, what black box magic is causing that to happen?

  .NET newbie alert Using Visual C# 2008 Express Edition I have accidentally created a click event for a button. I then deleted the automatically-created method code, which resulted in an error saying that the function, which had now been referenced in the form loading code, could no longer be found. Deleting the following line from the Form1.Designer.cs file's InitializeComponent() function... this.btnCopy.Click += new System.EventHandler(this.btnCopy_Click); ... seems to do the trick, however, it makes me feel very dirty because of the following warning at the beginning of the #region: /// Required method for Designer support - do not modify /// the contents of this method with the code editor. I haven't been able to find a way to do this using the form designer, which I assume is the means implied by this warning. What is the correct way to do this?

  I downloaded the free express edition of oracle, Oracle XE. I couldn't find the pro*c compiler in this edition. I read somewhere that oracle 9i client has pro*C, So I presumed that oracle client for 10g XE should have it too and downloaded it. But to my disappointment, I can't find it there too. :(. Is there a way to download the older oracle 9i and use it connect to 10g XE without any compatibility problems?. Or is it possible to download the pro*C compiler alone?. I don't want to download the standard editions as they are too large(2 GB). Thanks.

• Why is Visual Studio 2008 slow with Firefox?

  I am using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express. I've made an ASP.NET MVC site which has 6 CSS files and 6 Javascript files in the HEAD element in the Site.Master file. When I do F5 or CTRL-F5 in Explorer or Opera, the site displays instantly. When I run my site in Firefox, it takes a SECOND for each CSS and each Javascript file on LOCALHOST, i.e. 12 seconds to load on localhost. What might I be able to change in the Firefox settings so it is as fast as Opera and Explorer? NEW INFO: Uninstalled Firebug completely, no yslow, no other add-ons. When I take out the CSS and Javascript files, then Firefox is as fast as the other browsers. What could be taking it so long on a local connection?

  Hi, Which lightweight SQL Server type could I use on my Dev machine for a C# VS2010 project? (e.g. sql server express, sql server ce, full version etc). That is, I'm running on a VMWare fusion instance on my MacBook, and just want something to develop against for a C# VS2010 project. I'm planning on having a simple database (not many tables) but will use Entity Framework. I haven't used SQL Server before so a quick pointer re what is the best database admin interface/app to use for the version you recommend (e.g. to create database, tables etc).

• Can the Sequence of RecordSets in a Multiple RecordSet ADO.Net resultset be determined, controlled?

  I am using code similar to this Support / KB article to return multiple recordsets to my C# program. But I don't want C# code to be dependant on the physical sequence of the recordsets returned, in order to do it's job. So my question is, "Is there a way to determine which set of records from a multiplerecordset resultset am I currently processing?" I know I could probably decipher this indirectly by looking for a unique column name or something per resultset, but I think/hope there is a better way. P.S. I am using Visual Studio 2008 Pro & SQL Server 2008 Express Edition.

  I'm used to MySQL and PHPMyAdmin - I had to switch over to MSSQL for an ASP.net project, and I'm having tons of trouble. I'm using the express version of SQL 2008, with SQL Server Management Studio. The following are 2 questions I've been struggling with for a while: 1) How do I export the DB schema for the database? The table structure, etc.? 2) How do I export all the data in the database? Ideally I'd like to have a .sql file that can be run wherever I need the schema or data duplicated, for example a co-worker's computer for a shared project, or online when the project is being hosted. • Running sql scripts against an attached database?

  I've got an MDF attached to an instance of Sql Server 2008 Express, and I need to run some sql scripts against it to generate tables, indexes, etc. But I can't figure out how to get this to work. If I load the scripts in Visual Studio, it only allows me to connect to the server and run it against a database. I can't choose a different provider (Microsoft Sql Server Database File), so I can't select my MDF. This leaves me the only option of running the script as individual queries, but that won't work as it appears it doesn't support TSQL CREATE statements. How can I run my sql script against an attached database?

  i started working with ubuntu 11.10 last year. i upgraded to 12.04 a week back. since then i have had all sorts of problems with network connection. first had to install the new driver. the hardware switch somehow got disabled then the above problem arrived. even tho the options are all enabled, the OS is not able to detect scan available network connections. also i have to bring to notice that once in a while it does get connected, can not explain how it happens. • wifi hardware switch doesn't work on a Dell 1018

  I have a problem with my Dell 1018 Inspiron. I can't switch the wifi on, through the key on the keyboard. I think it's a driver problem since Ubuntu 11.10. This are the versions i tried: Ubuntu 10.04 / 10.10 It's possible to install the driver by hand: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lexical/hwe-wireless sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install rtl8192ce-dkms Ubuntu 11.04 It works out of the box Ubuntu 11.10 / 12.04 I haven’t found any solution for these versions. The "ppa:lexical/hwe-wireless" doesn't work for these versions. It says Can not find package rtl8192ce-dkms. The window of additional drivers is empty. So I can't install the driver. The wired network works good. • Can I install Microsoft Visual Web Developer w/o a SQL Server Express installation?

  When I attempt to install Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, it forces an installation of SQL Server 2008 Express, which is okay. However, it forces it to have the instance name SQLEXPRESS instead being the default instance. I tried installing SQL Server 2008 Express first, but the Web Platform Installer 3.0 still wants to download and install the named instance, which then I have to uninstall. I'm putting together a guide that several others in my group will follow, so I'd like to not have to tell them to "install, then uninstall". So, is there any reasonable way to either (1) install VWD w/o SS, or (2) install VWD but configure SS do use the default instance?

But when I copy the folder on my hard drive at home, an sql exception is unhandled whenever I try to write to the database. it is unhandled at the conn.Open(); line. here's the exception unhandled Database 'L:\system\project\the_project\the_project\bin\Debug\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf' already exists. Choose a different database name. This is my controller where I get the purchase attirbutes and create a PaypalExpressResponse object def checkout total_as_cents, purchase_params = get_setup_params(Schedule.find(params[:schedule]), request) setup_response = @gateway.setup_purchase(total_as_cents, purchase_params) redirect_to @gateway.redirect_url_for(setup_response.token) end @gateway is my PaypalExpressGateway object which I create using this method in my controller def assign_gateway @gateway = PaypalExpressGateway.new( :login => api_user, :password => api_pass, :signature => api_signature ) end I got the api_user, api_pass, and api_signature values from my developer.paypal.com account, when I logged in for the first time there was already a sandbox user created as a merchant which is where I got the api credentials from. And finally here is my get_setup_params method: def get_setup_params(schedule, request) purchase_params = { :ip => request.remote_ip, :return_url => url_for(:action => 'review', :only_path => false, :sched => schedule.id), :cancel_return_url => register_path, :allow_note => true, :item => schedule.id } return to_cents(schedule.fee), purchase_params end How ever when I click on the checkout button, I get redirected to a sandbox paypal page saying "This transaction is invalid. Please return to the recipient's website to complete your transaction using their regular checkout flow." • Transitioning from Domain Authentication to SQL Server Authentication

  Greetings all, I've run into a problem that has me stumped. I've put together a database in SQL Server Express, and I'm having a strange permissions problem. The database is on my development machine with a domain user: DOMAIN\albertp. My development database server is set for "SQL Server and Windows Authentication" mode. I can edit and query my database without any problems when I log in using Windows Authentication. However, when I log in to any user that uses SQL Server authentication (Including sa) I get this message when I run queries against my database. SELECT * FROM [Testing].[dbo].[AuditingReport] I get: Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Line 1 Login failed for user 'auditor'. I'm logged into the server from SQL Server Management Studio as 'auditor' and I don't see anything in the error log about the login failure. I've already run: Use Testing; Grant All to auditor; Go And I still get the same error. What permissions do I have to set for the database to be usable by others outside of my personal domain login? Or am I looking at the wrong problem? My ultimate goal is to have the database be accessible from a set of PHP pages, using a either a common login (hence 'auditor') or a login specific to a set of individual users.

• Modifying SQL Database on Shared Hosting

  I have a live database on a shared hosting server. I am making some major changes to my site's code and I would like to fix some stupid mistakes I made in initially designing the database. These changes involve altering the size of a large number of fields, and enforcing referential integrity between tables properly. I would like to make the changes on both my local test server and the remote server if possible. I should note that while I'm fairly comfortable with writing complex queries to handle data, I have very little experience modifying database structure without a graphical interface. I can access the remote database in the visual studio database explorer but I can not use that for anything other than data manipulation. I installed Sql Management Studio express last night and after 40+ crashes I gave up - I couldn't even patch the damn thing. The remote server is SQL 2005 / The MyLittleAdmin web interface is available. So my question is what is the best way to accomplish these changes. Is there a graphical interface I can use on the remote server? If not is there an easy way to copy the database to my local machine, fix it, and re upload? Finally if none of the above are viable does anyone have links to a decent info on fixing referential integrity via query? Sorry for the somewhat general question - I feel like I am making this far harder than it should be but after searching / trying all night i haven't gotten anywhere. Thanks in advance for the help. Adding a recipe is fine, but when I delete one it seems to get stuck in a redirect loop. • Windows 2008 VPS hosting experiences

  Whilst similar questions exist, I couldn't find any which quite match my request. I'm looking for hosting for some personal .NET projects which for various reasons I do not want to host on our servers at work. I need to be able to host multiple sites and for that reason I'm thinking of a VPS with RDP access for the time being - don't fancy shared hosting as I feel that doesn't offer me the flexbility and control I'm looking for. What experiences do people have of Windows 2008 VPS providers? I've come across a few possibilities although it seems a lot of places are still on Windows 2003 with 2008 'coming soon'. Is VPS the best way to go? Eventually (depending on how the projects take off) I intend to get a dedicated box but at this stage it's not cost-effective. Also, what are people's experiences of running SQL Server Express on a VPS? What would you say the minimum requirements are for CPU/memory? I know it's not going to be anywhere near as performant as SQL Server 2005/8 running on a dedicated box but I'm hoping it will be an acceptable starting point. Any other tips/advice also welcome! Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm ideally looking for UK hosting although I'm open to alternatives.

  I recently reinstalled Visual C++ 2008 Express after a system crash, and now it wants me to register. But when I go to the registration page, all I get is information about registering VS Express 2010, which is not what I'm trying to do. Does anyone know if it's still possible to register VS Express 2008?
