  • How to add linked Oracle server to SQL 2008 Express?

    I have tried to download Oracle Client 11g both 32 & 64 packages to Windows 2008 R2 with SQL server 2008 Express. However, I still cannot see Oracle provider in SQL server by using sa log in. Not sure if is it possible to do it for SQL Server express 2008? Any advice to do it? I followed installations from this article: Making Linked Server Connection Between SQL Server 64 Bit & Oracle 32 Bit | MS SQL World After installation and reboot the Windows, I still cannot see the Oracle provider in linked provider in SQL server.

    I have a SSD as my primary (C:) drive, mainly used for quickly loading games. It's pretty small (~30 GB) so I want to keep things that don't really need a speed boost off of it. I attempted installing the Visual Studio 2010 Express beta last night, and It claimed to require 2.1 GB of space so I changed the install directory to a secondary, non-SSD drive. After this, the installer said that it would use 1.8 GB on C: and ~200 MB on the secondary drive. While this token gesture of moving 1/10 of the app to the place I told it to is cute, I really want to install everything I can to the secondary drive. Is there any way to install all of Visual Studio 2010 Express to a drive besides C:?

  • 4GB limitation on these embedded/express DBs good enough? what's next if limitation is reached?

    I'm wondering how long a (theoretically) desktop-app can consume the full 4GB limitation of these express/embedded database products (SQL-Server Express, Oracle Express, SQLite3, etc) provided that big blobs will be stored in filesystem. Also what would be your strategy when it hits the 4GB? Archive the old DB Copy 1-3 months of data to the new DB (consider this as cache strategy?) Start using the new DB from this point onward (How do you access the old data?) I understand that the answer might varies depending on how much data you stored in the table/column. But please describe based on your experience (what kind of desktop-app, write/read heavy, how long will it reach according to your guess).

    Hello. Is there some compatibility problem between SQL Server 2005 Express and AMD processors? I read something along those lines on various sites, but found nothing 100% definitive. I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express on a computer that runs Windows Vista Home Premium, 32-bit edition, and the CPU is "AMD Turion Dual-Core RM-70". I tried both the 32-bit and 64-bit installers, just in case, and the process runs fine until the moment the service attempts to start, where it fails with the same error every time. I'm sorry I can't provide more details or the exact message, it was on a client computer to which I have no access at the moment. I hope someone could shed some light on this. Thank you.

    As we are all painfully aware, the only way to get multiple monitors AND compositing (Compiz) on Linux is to use a single graphics card that can drive both (or in my case all three) screens. I bought a Radeon 5750 specifically because it claims to able to drive 3 monitors. I can plug in 3 monitors (2 DVI, 1 HDMI) and the Catalyst Control Center shows all 3, but only 2 can be enabled at a time. The exact message is: The current settings cannot be applied. Possible issues may include: - Display(s) cannot be enabled. - Setting(s) cannot be applied due to insufficient video memory. So I'm going to assume that either the 5750 doesn't support 3 monitors, OR, more likely, ATI couldn't be bothered to add that support to their Linux drivers. So this is a multipart question: First, can anyone suggest a PCI Express Graphics card that can run 3 screens on linux without tremendous pain? I'm looking for something where you install the driver and all three screens "just work". Does such a card exist? Second, if you have a 5750, have you been able to get it to do 3 monitors? I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 at the moment.

    I have 2 graphics cards, the output from the lspci: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV710 [Radeon HD 4350] I have one monitor connected to the 4850 and 2 connected to the 4350. However when I go into System Preferences Monitors the only monitor shown is the one connected to the 4850. Is there something I need to enable for it to be able to use the other card?   • Is there a way to disable the hardware on/off switch for the Wireless interface?

    I have an HP 520 and is running the latest Ubuntu 11.10. The hardware works fine with Ubuntu with one exception: The device has a hardware switch for turning the wifi on and off. Every time the wi-fi is disabled through the hardware switch, I am unable to bring it on again. The message on the networking popup would be device not ready. What I am looking for is a way to disable the hardware switch altogether so that when users accidentally press the button, the wifi would not be disabled. There is no setting to disable the switch in the BIOS.   • Wake laptop when lid is opened?

    I have a SAMSUNG laptop, which by the experience in the last months, has been a great one. I am actually implementing some functionality to it, and since I noticed, I am able to wake up my laptop from sleep by just opening the lid on Windows 7, however, I need to press to power button to wake up in Ubuntu. Using a program called i-nex, I noted that the kernel DOES dettect a "lid switch", and I am looking forward to use it to wake up function. Any ideas? UPDATE: Thanks @yossile for bringing up some clues! However, output of command cat /proc/acpi/wakeup does not show the LID device. I still tried the second set of commands you gave me with no effect. Then I tried experimenting, guessing that LID should be named by other value, so I tried enabling the others. No victory so far. But I noticed that devices that did not have any pci listings were disabled at all time no matter what I tried.     I'm having problems connecting my WIFI in Ubuntu 13.04 . So I was wondering if filling in the data manually ie: the IPv4, IPv6, the SSID and BSSID info etc. I did try this before but maybe I put in the wrong data or maybe not enough.     So when I used Visual Web Developer 2005 Express edition, in the ribbon there was a menu option for "Layout", which you could go through and select positioning and set absolute to default. I am using Visual Web Developer 2008 Express now, and I see that you can select format from the menu bar, and set position absolute, for each individual control that you add to the design surface, but is there a place I can just set absolute as the default, like in 2005? In some cases the result set is rather large so the menu fills the entire screen and sometimes has a down arrow to scroll the list. In a previous version of the code before switching to Dev Express, I was able to add TMenuBreak objects to make the list divide into columns. Is there a way to do this with Dev Express components?

  • Is it possible to play multiple audio streams from one "jukebox" to multiple Airport Express devices?

    I have set up a Mac mini as a jukebox that streams audio to an Airport Express in another room in the house, using the AirPlay/AirTunes feature in iTunes. I control this with the iOS Remote app, and this works great. At the present time, it looks like the Mac mini's copy of iTunes gets taken over by the Remote app, while streaming. If I set up a second Airport Express in room B, is there a way to set it up (as well as the jukebox) so that it can receive and play its own unique music stream ("stream B"), separate from what's going on at the Mac mini, or in room A, which is playing stream A? To accomplish this, I would be happy to buy a copy of Rogue Amoeba's AirFoil if it will allow sending multiple, separate audio streams from one computer to the multiple wireless bridges, while using the Remote app (or a Rogue Amoeba equivalent for iOS). However, it is unclear to me from their site documentation, whether that is possible or not. I'd prefer to give the points to an answer that solves this problem. If you don't know if it can be done, or do not think it can be done, please allow others to answer. I appreciate your help. Thanks for your advice.

  • SQL Server Express backup/restore error: The Media Family on Device is Incorrectly Formed.

    Basically, I'm having this issue: http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting047.htm What I'm doing is running a script I found online (http://pastebin.com/3n0ZfybL) to do a full backup, then rar'ing up the file and moving it to my computer. The CRC of the backup file inside the rar is correct on both computers, so there is no problem with data being corrupted when I transfer it. But then I go and try to restore the database on my dev computer here and I get the errors "sql server cannot process this media family" ... "msg 3013". Why is this happening? I'd test out the backup on the server I'm getting it from, but it's a production server.   • Ubuntu turns off instead of suspend / sleeping

    I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 on my notebook as the main OS. How ever, I've been facing a serious problem: Every time I try to suspend it, or it just stays idle for a while, the computer shuts down, instead of suspending. It actually seems to be suspended, but when I press the button the awake it, it turns on, the open works are all lost. How can i fix this? P.s: On windows 7 the suspend / sleep resumes just fine.   • Vostro 3560 Wireless on Ubuntu 12.10

    I have been using Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS on a Dell Vostro 3560 for some time now. At first I had issues with the wireless but I was pointed to a driver from Ubuntu 11.xx for a Broadcom BCM43142 and that did work! however with the upgrade to 12.10 I find myself at a lost because the driver will not work anymore. When trying to reinstall it I get "Driver of bad quality" I still install it but it just wont work. I cant seem to find anything on this issue for 12.10 and didn't know if anyone had any advice or if someone could point me in the right direction on resources to write my own driver for it. As I know C/C++ but have never written a driver for a Linux machine before. Thanks for any help! To be more clear I installed Ubuntu 12.10 Desktop on my Dell Vostro 3560 laptop. When I log in, my wireless card isn't visible in the Network Manager popup menu, although the wired network shows up there.
