• How do I handle a missing mandatory argument in Ruby OptionParser?

  In OptionParser I can make an option mandatory, but if I leave out that value it will take the name of any following option as the value, screwing up the rest of the command line parsing. Here is a test case that echoes the values of the options: $ ./test_case.rb --input foo --output bar output bar input foo Now leave out the value for the first option: $ ./test_case.rb --input --output bar input --output Is there some way to prevent it taking another option name as a value?   I am looking at various options for a WCF based publish subscribe framework. Say I have one WCF web service that will be the publisher and 1000 clients registered as subscriber. For some published messages all clients will be interested but at the same time I wish the ability to notify a single client with a specific message. On receiving notification the client will call other web service methods on the web service. Is NServiceBus suitable for this kind of scenario ? If I use MSMQ for transport does it mean that every PC where the client is installed requires a queue to be created ?

• Filling data in FormView from different tables

  Hi, I am using a FormView in an online quiz page for displaying the questions and RadioButtons (for answers) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2438219/online-quiz-using-asp-dot-net Now, I need to pick the questions according to a TestID and a particular Set of that Test. The testid and the set_number would be passed using Session variables. I'm having 3 testIDs and 3 Sets per TestID and, thus, am using 9 tables to store the Questions, the Options and the correct answer. I need help on how to set the FormView so that it extracts the questions from a particular table only. Do I need to use a StoredProcedure ? If yes, how? PS: If I use only one table to store all the questions from each Set and for each TestID, I can do that, but I'd prefer using separate tables.

• Which is the best .NET image capture API for me to use?

  I have been tasked with integrating image acquisition into a .NET application and I have been looking for an API to use for performing this function. I have come across several "standard" APIs, some have been in existence for a long time, some not so long. I have looked at references to ISIS, TWAIN, WIA, and SANE (said to be mostly *nix). They all appear to be Win32 libraries except for SANE, and I was wondering what the current recommendations are for talking to image acquisition devices (scanners)? Feel free to recommend something else if you feel it is better. I'm looking for open source options. Edit: I put open source, when what I actually meant was free. using WIA or TWAIN is fine since they are free even though they are proprietary interfaces.

  Is there a way to append something to the query string with no value set? I would like to see this kind of URL being generated: http://local/things?magic. What I'm looking for is when the user goes to http://local/other?magic then every URL in the generated page would contain magic in the end. Following code is almost a solution but it gives me http://local/things?magic=. There is an extra = that I don't want there. def default_url_options(options) if params.has_key?("magic") { :magic => "" } end end Setting { :magic => nil } will remove the magic entirely from the generated URLs.

• Debug .Net Framework's source code only shows disassembly in Visual Studio 2010

  Hi! I'm trying to debug .Net Framework's source code using Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I followed the steps described in Raj Kaimal's post but I must be doing something wrong since the only code I'm getting to see is the disassembly code: As you can see in the image, the Go to Source Code and the Load Symbols options are disabled. Nevertheless, symbols are downloaded from Microsoft's server since I can see them inside the local cache directory. The code I'm debugging goes as follow: var wr = WebRequest.Create("http://www.google.com"); Console.WriteLine("Web request created"); var req = wr.GetRequestStream(); Console.Read(); When I hit F11 to step into the first line of code, a window pops us looking for the "WebRequst.cs" file inside "f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\Net\System\Net\WebRequest.cs" which does not exists on my machine.   I am familiar with MVC/MVP though my question is simple, I'm about to program a simple Instant Messaging software when the engine and communication part is an open API. so my software will have about 3 forms, a splash screen with login details, the options form and a main form with all the functionality like: Friends List, Send message, Received messages (tabbed), search user, etc. In UI perspective, its important for the GUI to be in 1 form in my application. So my question is, for the only complicated form that I'm going to have, is it necessary to implement an MVP design pattern or in this case its better to just go straight forward and put all the logic in 1 place? • How to convert thousands of PDF files to a single Postscript file in a specified order

  I've discovered multiple options for convert a few to serveral PDFs into Postscript, but many are command-line programs with command-line limitations (this application lives on .NET). Our application generates tens-of-thousands of PDFs that we need to send to a printer, except BEFORE the Postscript is printed we need to edit the Postscript to insert print command instructions (duplex, tray-pulls, highlight color, etc.) I think a perfect solution might allow us to write the PDFs to a stream, and simultaneously allow us to read the output stream so we may edit the Postscript before writing it to a file. Of course, if I must create the file first containing all 10,000 PDFs and edit it in an additional pass, I'm OK with that, too. I should mention that speed is important. I need to print 10,000 at a time, but need to keep the printers busy 24-hours/day.

I added some php code to my HEADER.html (which is in the root directory / ), I am trying to add to htaccess: AddType application/x-httpd-php .html .php .htm This not working, I think because the HEADER.html is in the root. If I try add the AddType... to the /.htaccess (and not to the /stackoverflow/.htaccess) it is overwriting my /stackoverflow/.htaccess rules. Why? How I can add AddType rule to my /stackoverflow/.htaccess to Apache parse html file as php file?

• Facebook status.get API throws 500 HTTP status code

  I have an APP that calls Facebook status.get method via the REST server - restserver.php using session key method. This app works fine for most of the users, but for one user I consistently receive HTTP 500 status code. Since this doesn't have any specific Facebook error message, it is almost impossible for me to debug this. Anyone faced a similar problem? What could be wrong with this user account? I checked the privacy options that I could think of and they look fine. Also, for the same user, I can use friends.get method without any problem. EDIT: I tried in Facebook forums as well, but it was of no use. Any pointers in the direction towards debugging/troubleshooting this problem are also appreciated.

Now that I am looking for career options finishing up and I'm just wonder how my Applied Math degree will look when applying for programming jobs. I have taken CS courses in C++/Java/C and done 2 semester of Scientific Computing with MATLAB/Mathematica and the like, so I feel like i at least know how to program.   I'm a beginner at Maven and I've played with it from a command line point of view a little, so now I was trying to use it in Eclipse; I installed the m2eclipse plugin to do so. But I'm stumped from the very beginning! Apparently I've missed a bit of terminology somewhere along the line. I can't keep track of all these new Maven terms... What is a Maven Project, and what is a Maven Module? These are my options when creating a new project in the Maven category in Eclipse.

• How to extract common / significant phrases from a series of text entries

  I have a series of text items- raw HTML from a MYSQL database. I want to find the most common phrases in these entries (not the single most common phrase, and ideally, not enforcing word-for-word matching). My example is any review on Yelp.com, that shows 3 snippets from hundreds of reviews of a given restaurant, in the format: "Try the hamburger" (in 44 reviews) e.g., the "Review Highlights" section of this page: http://www.yelp.com/biz/sushi-gen-los-angeles/ I have NLTK installed and I've played around with it a bit, but am honestly overwhelmed by the options. This seems like a rather common problem and I haven't been able to find a straightforward solution by searching here. Thanks in advance for any help.

  I've got some drivers which are basically LibUSB-Win32 with a new .inf file do describe product/vendor ids and strings which describe my hardware. This works fine for 32 bit windows, but 64 bit versions have problems; namely that Microsoft in their wisdom require all drivers to be digitally signed. So my questions are thus: Is there a version of the LibUSB-Win32 drivers which are already signed I could use? If there aren't already some signed ones I can canibalise, what exactly do I have to do to get my drivers signed. Do I need to get 64 and 32 bit versions signed separately and will this cost more? Is this a free alternative to getting them signed? Are there any other options I should consider besides requiring that my customers boot into test mode each time they start their machines (not an option I'd consider).

• jQuery: split and hide html data

  Hi guys! I need to split somehow some html data (a text with html tags) into two parts and hide the second one with a show/hide link. The thing is all texts are being stored in the database with html tags. Some of those texts are short, but some are really long. We don't want't to show long ones, so one of the options is to show a teaser with a show/hide link. I can't just cut the string though (let's say first 300 characters), because it'll break html code of the page. I'm looking for a solution/suggestions how to show a teaser of the text using jQuery without breaking the html code of the page. Thank you.

• MS Environment: How to force link a static library to another using .vsprops, if possible?

  Environment: VS 2008 in Windows. Problem: A static library, say first.lib is not linked to, say second.lib, if first.lib is specified in .vsprops file and none of its functions is referenced in the second.lib. If, however, first.lib is removed from the .vsprops file and placed instead in the appropriate project options dialog(1), it is linked, even if its functions remain unreferenced. (1) Project - Properties - Configuration Properties - Linker - Input. Our solution uses .vsprops exclusively and to somehow be able to specify first.lib in such a file with additional tweaking of some settings would be considered a more elegant solution. Using a dummy function to pull in unused functions of first.lib is not an option. Thanks in advance.

• Classloader problems Tomcat 6 javagent

  I am using Salve Dependency Injection library that instruments the byte code of the web application. I specified -javaagent in Tomcat VM options and pointed it to the Salve agent jar. The agent jar gets loaded, but then it throws a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError unable to find classes that are in other Salve jars which are located in WEB-INF/lib folder of my web app. I can solve this problem by putting those JARs in Tomcat/endorsed folder. However, some of those jars depend on third-party libraries, such as Spring and servlet-api.jar. Therefore, I am forced to put all these dependencies in Tomcat/endorsed as well. Could anybody suggest a better way for handling dependencies of a Tomcat javaagent? Thanks.

The two options for the CMS are Build a complete custom CMS from scratch Extend an existing open source CMS to fit our needs. This way we can use some of the features out of the box and others we will build ourselves. I would like to get your feedback on the following What are your experiences with option number 2? Which CMS would you recommend that we can further customize and extend for our use? What are the best ways to integrate a custom application with other external CMS?
