• Does PHP Try Catch freezes the page?

When I use it without Try/Catch the pages loads normally, but with error messages. Could I ammeliorate the time of response with Try/Catch?

• Win32 select/poll/eof/ANYTHING!?!?!

  Using the standard Win32 file I/O API's (CreateFile/ReadFile/etc), I'm trying to wait for a file to become readable, or for an exception to occur on the file. If Windows had any decent POSIX support, I could just do: select(file_count, files_waiting_for_read, NULL, files_waiting_for_excpt, NULL, NULL); And select will return when there's anything interesting on some of the files. Windows doesn't support select or poll. Fine. I figured I could take the file and do something like: while(eof(file_descriptor)) { Sleep(100); } The above loop would exit when more data is available to be read. But nope, Windows doesn't have an equivalent of eof() either! I could possibly call ReadFile() on the file, and determine if it's at the eof that way. But, then I'd have to handle the reading at that point in time -- I'm hoping to simply be able to figure out that a file is readable, without actually reading it. What are my options?

I am writing a bookstore program for APCS and when i add the book, it is supposed to add to the arraylist in the inventory class. • jQuery Ajax works in Firefox, fails in IE when calling Controller action

In Firefox the async request is sent to the action in the controller and everything works fine, but in IE no request is sent to the controller. • C# getting version of unmanaged dll

  I'm calling an unmanaged dll from my managed c# code and wanted to check I'm calling the right version. The code I'm trying to load the assembly (to then get the resource file and then get the version) is: cur_version = Assembly.LoadFile("X:\Workspace\yreceipts_pos\yRprintProcessor\Debug\yRprintProcessor.dll"); It's failing because of this error: The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131018) Does anyone know how to get around this or have a better way to check the version of an unmanaged dll from managed c# code? Thanks in advance, Richard

  Hello all, I was wondering what is the better method for Casting objects for C#: MyClassName test = (MyClassName)object; MyClassName test = object as MyClassName; I know already that if you do the first way, you get an exception, and the second way it sets test as null. However, I was wondering why do one over the other? I see the first way a lot, but I like how the second way because then I can check for null... If there isn't a 'better way' of doing it, what are the guidelines for using one way or the other?

• Java - How do I get last line using Scanner?

  while( inStream.hasNextLine() ) { ... lineList.add( inStream.nextLine() ); } ... lineList is an ArrayList. The code is reading everything nicely except it won't grab the last line. The last two lines in the text file end like this: "a sentence here..." <a blank line here. the blank line is the last line> I'm assuming it won't grab it since hasNextLine() is not detecting another line after this one? What's a way to grab the last line? I thought reading until it was EOF and then catching the exception might work but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that.

In the service, I've got my DAO, and my entity, and I want to delete my entity, so I call DAO.delete(entity); Then, seemingly out of nowhere, I get an InvocationTargetException.   Am I missing something painfully obvious? Or does just nobody in the world actually use java.util.BitSet? The following test fails: @Test public void testBitSet() throws Exception { BitSet b = new BitSet(); b.set(0, true); b.set(1, false); assertEquals(2, b.length()); } It's really unclear to me why I don't end up with a BitSet of length 2 and the value 10. I peeked at the source for java.util.BitSet, and on casual inspection it seems to fail to make sufficient distinction between a bit that's been set false and a bit that has never been set to any value... (Note that explicitly setting the size of the BitSet in the constructor has no effect, e.g.: BitSet b = new BitSet(2);

  I have a database on line with Godaddy (who uses SQL Server 2005). They provide basic management tools, but tell you that for more advanced tools you can connect directly using SSMS. I followed their instructions to ensure my online database will accept remote connections, and can apparently log in using SSMS with success (after giving my hostname and access data).   I'm trying to execute a program (convert from ImageMagick, to be specific) whose parent folder exists on the path. Ergo, when I run convert from the command line, it runs the command. The following, however, fails: String command = "convert" CommandLine commandLine = CommandLine.parse(command); commandLine.addArgument(...) ... int exitValue = executor.execute(commandLine); If I specify the full path of the convert executable (C:\Program files\...) then this code works. If I don't do this, I get an exception thrown with exit value 4. How do I get commons-exec to recognize the system path?

  Hi, Im trying to use the FolderBrowserDialog to select a folder in C#. At first I got a Thread exception, so I googled what was wrong and fixed that but now im stuck at a nother problem. I whant to know when a folder has been selected.   I'm trying to get the source of a java resource stored in an oracle database using this code (connecting as SYSTEM for testing): DECLARE javalob CLOB; BEGIN DBMS_LOB.CREATETEMPORARY(javalob, false); DBMS_JAVA.EXPORT_RESOURCE('RESOURCENAME', 'SCHEMA', javalob); DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(javalob); END; But when I try to run it I get this: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.SecurityException: cannot read <Resource Handle: RESOURCENAME|SCHEMA|301> because SYSTEM does not have execute privilege on it This thing is, I'm not sure how to grant permissions on <Resource Handle: RESOURCENAME|SCHEMA|301>, as this isn't a SQL or PL/SQL object. And why doesn't SYSTEM have access to it anyway?

  I have a method which can be written pretty neatly through method chaining: return viewer.ServerReport.GetParameters() .Single(p => p.Name == Convention.Ssrs.RegionParamName) .ValidValues .Select(v => v.Value); However I'd like to be able to do some checks at each point as I wish to provide helpful diagnostics information if any of the chained methods returns unexpected results. To achieve this, I need to break up all my chaining and follow each call with an if block. It makes the code a lot less readable. Ideally I'd like to be able to weave in some chained method calls which would allow me to handle unexpected outcomes at each point (e.g. throw a meaningful exception such as new ConventionException("The report contains no parameter") if the first method returns an empty collection). Can anyone suggest a simple way to achieve such a thing?

• Embedded strongly-typed views with ASP.NET MVC

  I'm working on a plugin-type of system for ASP.NET MVC that loads views from an embedded assembly. I have created a VirtualPathProvider that does the work of retrieving out of the assembly. Everything is working fine except for strongly-typed views. Whenever I try to load one of those, I get an exception of: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage'. The problem is that there is no Web.config file under the Views folder. Well, actually there is, but the system doesn't seem to want to read the embedded version. If I manually create the file under the corresponding directory in the web app, everything is fine. This isn't an acceptable workaround however, as each plugin would need its own file in its own specific directory. Does anyone know how I might get ASP to read the embedded Web.config file?   I'm trying to call a parameterized stored procedure from SQL Server 2005 in my C# Winforms app. I add the parameters from TextBoxeslike so (there are 88 of them): cmd.Parameters.Add("@CustomerName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = CustomerName.Text; I get the following exception: "System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a TextBox to a String. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible." The line throwing the error is when I call the query: cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); I also tried using the .ToString() method on the TextBoxes, which seemed pointless anyway, and threw the same error. Am I passing the parameters incorrectly?

  I have a multi-row insert that looks something like: insert into table VALUES (1, 2, 3), (4, 5, 6), (7, 8, 9); Assume the first attribute (1, 4, 7) is a foreign key to another table and assume that this referenced table does not have the value '4'. A MySQLExeption is thrown with error code 1452. EXCEPTION: Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (dbName/tableName, CONSTRAINT id FOREIGN KEY (customer_id) REFERENCES referencedTable (customer_id)) Is there a way to identify which value caused the error? I would love to give my user an error message that said something like: Error: '4' does not exist in the referenced table. I am using the .NET mysql connector to execute the insert. Thanks- Jonathan

  I am using VB.NET 2008 Express Edition to access Serial Port which is a USB to Serial port. Since this is removable, the app user can disconnect it at any time in app. I am getting an unhandled exception when I remove the USB Serial Port. After research, it seems like a known problem in .NET (even in 3.5) I am looking for some solution to get this done. • sqlite no such table

  can anyone please help. I've seen many people with the same problem and looked at all suggestions but still cannot get this to work. I have tried to unistall the application and install again, I have tried to change the version number and start again. I've debugged the code and it does go into the onCreate function, but when I go to make a select query it says the users table does not exist. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
