Hey iPhone 5 users, here is the official Google Maps App from Google

Here is a big news to all the iPhone 5 users which brings great relief. Google officially released Google Maps Apps for iOS 6 and it’s available in App Store. The app is optimized for iPhone 5 and includes turn-by-turn voice guided navigation similar to the one found on Android devices. Also the app features transit and walking directions, 2D and 3D maps, Street View and aerial imagery, and more. If you don’t find the application on App Store, wait for sometime as the rollout may be slowly covering all the regions.

Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 1.2 (June 2010)

I have good news! Microsoft has released the June 2010 Windows Azure Tools + SDK. These new tools extend Visual Studio (both VS 2010 & VS 2008) for Windows Azure development. With these tools you can create, configure, debug, build, run, and deploy scalable web apps on Windows Azure. At first glance what I see as some of the most interesting points of interest are the fact that Visual Studio 2010 RTM is fully supported as well as .NET 4 support. You can choose to build your apps with the .NET 3.5 or .NET 4 frameworks. Another area of interest that I’ll be digging into is the cloud storage explorer. It provides a read-only view of your Windows Azure tables and blob containers from within Visual Studio via the Server Explorer. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about the Windows Azure Tools as I dig deeper… Have a day. :-|

Push or Pull Input Data In the Game Logic?

In the process of preparing my game for networking I'm adding a layer of seperation between the physical input (mouse/keyboard) and the actual game "engine"/logic. All input that has any relation to the game logic is wrapped inside action objects such as BuildBuildingAction. I was thinking of having an action processing layer that would determine what to do with the input. This layer could then be set up to either just pass the actions locally to the game engine or send it via sockets to the network server depending on whether the game was single- or multiplayer. In network games it would make sense that the player's actions should be sent to the server, but should the game logic be pulling (polling?) the data through some sort of interface or should the action processing layer be adding the actions to an input queue in the game logic code?

Legal concern over "borrowed" code

A company my friend works for (let's call him Me) recently unveiled a new face for their internal "networking" website. This new face looks remarkably like Facebook, and indeed, examination of the source code reveals that it's almost identical: The code, class names, and even the fonts are the same. There is also no indication that Facebook is in any way involved or aware. I know this is unethical, but is it illegal? I can't find anything concrete about this to help Me decide what to do about it. EDIT: We're talking front-end code. It does not appear to be linking to Facebook in any way.

Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 Beta Released!

Just thought I’d pass on the word that the Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 Beta is now available to download. VS2010 SP1 Beta ships with a go live license which means you can start using it for production work though I’m not sure I’m going to be that brave until I check it out a bit first. Jason Zanders has a blog post outlining the new features/fixes included in the beta. Here are a couple BREAKING news items you’ll want to TakeNote of… VS2010 SP1 Beta BREAKS ASP.NET MVC 3 RC Razor IntelliSense. A new ASP.NET MVC 3 RC2 installer will be released very soon that will allow you to upgrade in-place. VS2010 SP1 Beta BREAKS the Visual Studio Async CTP. A work around is being worked on but for now if you’re working with the Async CTP then stick with VS2010 RTM. Have a day.

Multiple values for a specif custom variable in Google Analytics

we're trying to get rid of a this question : would it be possible to setup more than one value in a custom variable in Google Analytics, at page level ? Eg: _gaq.push(['_setCustomVar',3,'Tag','Custom Variables',3]); We'd like to track most popular tags on a web site who publishes news, articles and stuff. Contents are categorized (each content belongs to one category) and tagged (1 or more tags for each article). So, we'd like to apply this code: _gaq.push(['_setCustomVar',3,'Tag','Custom Variables',3]); _gaq.push(['_setCustomVar',3,'Tag','Google Analytics',3]); in a page that shows an article with these two tags assigned. I've created simple social networking sites, book marking sites, and project management software. So what steps would I take to get a job? Is there a market for PHP, MySQL web developers? Is it possible to take instructions and work from home for someone? How would I accept payment? Should I start a company? or work for someone? I am currently based in South Africa, many of the companies are lacking the innovation that I'm seeking for in a company.

Dean also committed to updating the preview approximately every eight weeks. There is a good article on Beta News covering some of the technical details of the release. A key part of the announcements was the support for hardware accelerated HTML5 including supporting the video tag with the H.264 codec. What Im going to write next is based on a number of years of observations...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? Languages/Methods to Learn for Scientific Computing?:

I'm a second-semester Junior working towards a Computer Science degree with a Scientific Computing concentration and a Mathematics degree with a concentration on Applied Discrete Mathematics. So, number crunching and such rather than a bunch of regular expressions, interface design, and networking. I've found that I'm not learning new relevant languages from my coursework and am interested in what the community would recommend me to learn. I know as far as programming methods go, I need to learn more about parallelizing programs, but if there's anything else you can recommend, I would appreciate it. Here's a list of the languages with which I am very experienced (web technologies omitted as they barely apply here). I run a blog under mywebsite.com/blog. This is a self-hosted MovableType installation. Now I want to get rid of the blog installation and use a hosted (Wordpress.com) solution instead. The blog is only a minor part of my website, but before making this change I want to make sure that I don't loose SEO value. What is the best option to make this change? Bonus question: how big is the SEO-impact of a subdirectory (mywebsite.com/news) to the PageRank of the main domain (mywebsite.com)?

How did Ubuntu know my WPA Key?

I've recently moved my /home to another computer (keeping all configuration files), with a fresh installation of Ubuntu 10.10. After Installation I've installed wicd and ndiswrapper, to get my Internet Connection up and running. However, after changing /etc/network/interfaces from auto lo iface lo inet loopback To auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp and running sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart to get wlan0 set up, wicd just suddenly connected... to my modem. Without supplying any information about the modem whatsoever. Of course wicd creates a local directory at ~/.wicd/, but that directory is empty, and the temporary global configuration at /var/lib/wicd/configurations/ didn't exist due to fresh installation of ubuntu. So what's the deal? Where did wicd get the ESSID and the WPA Key? There hasn't been any activity in this question, but it's still open (and even worth some rep)!

How do I remove my Facebook account from Gwibber?

I started using Ubuntu 12.10 today, and put in my social networking details in Online Accounts under System Settings. I like being able to chat with my Facebook friends in Empathy, but I don't necessarily want my tweets to go to Facebook. I want to remove Facebook from Gwibber, but not Empathy. How do I do this? There is nothing in Gwibber preferences and I can't see how to do it in Online Accounts. The reason I want to remove it is that it isn't clear enough which accounts are posted to and I don't necessarily want the feeds mixing together.

Do you have a plan for your digital assets after you die?

After reading this question I remembered of a news article about some websites that manage your online identity after you pass away. Have you planned what to do with your digital assets once you go? I'd imagine that your online footprint is as important as anything you leave of material value. I mean, what would be the difference of that open-source project that you created to the money and savings that you had? How would you like to have your identity managed after you pass away? Would you prefer to go "off the grid"? It's a sensitive topic and I never met anyone who prepared for it.

Browser-based MMOs (WebGL, WebSocket)

Do you think it is techniclly possible to write a fully-fledged 3D MMO client with Browser JavaScript - WebGL for graphics, and WebSocket for Networking? Do you think future MMOs (and games generally) will wrriten with WebGL? Does today's JavaScript performance allow this? Let's say your development team was you as a developer, and another model creator (artist). Would you use a library like SceneJS for the game, or write straight WebGL? If you would use a library, but not SceneJS, please specify which. Thanks!
