• Multi database link and mix and match email alert

  I have a site which is a large database of people that have different knowledge in different domains, such as teaching (maths, french, science etc...) On the site there is a page where you can search people base on different request, such as distance from home, grade, sex. Now, I would like to add a page where people that are looking for mentor will fill a request, and when a tutor in his area of search will match request, a email will be send to this researcher. Because I know for sure, that when in January you look for a math teacher for your 10 year old son, and you find none, you won't go again in February, March... and on and on just to see. Maybe there is one now, you want to be informed when the tutor will get into database automatically (more or less like www.jobboom.com) So the question is, what CMS do I need to be able to do that ? Wordpress, drupal or something custom made?

• Sub routing in a SPA site

  I have a SPA site that I'm working on, I have a requirement that you can have subroutes for a page view model. Im currently using this 'pattern' for the site MyApp.FooViewModel = MyApp.define({ meta: { query: MyApp.Core.Contracts.Queries.FooQuery, title: "Foo" }, init: function (queryResult) { }, prototype: { } }); In the master view model I have a route table this.navigation(new MyApp.RoutesViewModel({ Home: { model: MyApp.HomeViewModel, route: String.empty }, Foo: { model: MyApp.FooViewModel } })); The meta object defines which query should populate the top level view model when its invoked through sammyjs, this is all fine but it does not support sub routing My plan is to change the meta object so that it can (optional offcourse) look like this meta: { query: MyApp.Core.Contracts.Queries.FooQuery, title: "Foo", route: { barId: MyApp.BarViewModel } } When sammyjs detects a barId in the query string the Barmodel will be executed and populated through its own meta object. Is this a good design?

• How do I fix skype on x86 11.10 desktop which garbles audio both ways in connection with a Windows user?

  Strange phenomena ? I have a friend I connect with and talk to regularly occasionally using video. He runs Windows XP with a Logitech webcam and mike. I run Windows XP with a Logitech webcam and mike, and a laptop with built in webcam and mike running both 11.10 x86 Desktop and Windows XP Home. We gab and ogle fine with these. But when I installed 11.10 x86 with GNOME 3.2 dual boot on the same machine with the Logitech webcam and mike, whenever I try to ogle and gab the audio is total garbled. When I make a test call to skype or call somebody on a landline or cell - there's no problem. In summary, everything works except for when running 11.10 x86 GNOME 3.2 connected to his Windows XP. Stumped on this end.

• automatically starting crashplan backup when a usb harddisc is connected

  Using CrashPlan I've configured two backup sets: online backup in crashplan's cloud (this is running perfectly) a local backup on a usb harddisc directly connected to the local laptop. The USB drive is only connected rarly when being at home. When connecting the drive it mounts automatically. Is there a way to start the local backup whenever the usb disc connected. My guess is that using udev it should be possible to "somehow" tell crashplan to reevaluate the presence of backup location. Any ideas to do this?

My partitions are: C: Windows8 90GB NTFS D: Blank 25GB FAT32 E: Entertainment 117GB NTFS F: Other 117GB NTFS G: Software 117GB NTFS Now, I've made flash drive for Ubuntu 13.04 and want to install on D: I've tried a lot to install on that partition but every time I got error of No mount point selected. But actually I've selected / as mount point. So please help me to solve this problem. and also suggest me what to do for /home. Note: I want to access windows 8 as my main operating system.

• Why are group policy preference drive mappings not applied to the domain administrator account?

  I have a working policy on my entire domain. I just found out, when logging with the domain administrator, that this policy is not applied (EDIT: Running : gpresult shows that the GPO's are applied - but, this GPO is for Drive Mappings, and the actual drive mappings are NOT shown) The administrator account - does not have any login script on his profile tab. To note: The mappings were applied before the GPO with a login script using the : net use ... command - all was working perfectly and correctly for the domain administrator user as well - That removes sharing and security problem (IMO) My GPO's are mainly small/atomic settings: single GPO to handle each settings: UAC, Firewall, printers. GPO status for the object is enabled That's an overview of the Drive Maps: Reading on MS support site, I checked the delegation tab, and it is marked as applied to domain and enterprise admins. Every user gets these policies correctly. The OU that is set is the root of the domain. (for testing purpose - I did that to eliminate hierarchy issues - did not help) Block Inheritance is disabled. • Permissions & File Structure w/ nginx & multiple sites

  I am using nginx for the first time as a long time Apache user. I setup a Linode to test everything and to eventually port over my websites. Previously I had /home/user/www (wwwroot) I am looking at doing something similar with /srv/www/domain/www (wwwroot) Rather than using /srv/domain (wwwroot), the reason is many of the sites are WordPress and one of the things I do for security is to move the config file one level above wwwroot and can't have multiple configuration files from multiple domains in the same top level folder. Since I own all the sites, I wasn't going to create a user for each domain. My user is a member of www-data and was going to use 2770 for www and have domain/www for each new domain. www would be owned by group www-data. Is this the best way to handle this?

• Not able to connect huawei ec1561

  I have a huawei ec1561 broadband data card, ISP-MTS India. I am not able to connect internet through it. while connecting it via network manager it says "You are registered with home network" and again "Modem network disconnected" . i think it is detected as a modem but not connecting properly. Any help please? I'm hitting this rock with my head more than a month... when I tried installing the driver that came with the device it finally says "Installing NDIS driver failed". I can post further information if anybody helps

• Hamachi² configuration file... Where is it?

  I recently installed hamachi² and haguichi on my 10.10 machine. It works, but it loses its connection every few minutes and I have to reconnect. I looked into this, and apparently I need to set the KeepAlive in the configuration file to 100. This shouldn't be a hard task, so I looked for the hamachi directory. I checked the obvious place: /home/username/.hamachi ... but this directory doesn't exist. (Yes, I did enable hidden files.) After doing a file search for hamachi, it returned nothing either. I'm in the dark here, what am I missing?

• Bash script not working as required with xbindkeys

  I made a simple bash script to display a notification whenever my capslock key is pressed. It works fine when I call it like bash capsnotify.sh. The problem now is when I bind my above script to capslock key using xbindkeys tool it doesn't work as required.   Arriving at JFK, at dawn, is beautiful. From above 1,000ft I can see no crime, poverty or ugliness – just the dark orange sunrise-through-smog. The Atlantic appears calm, and I take that as a good sign. Today is the first day of my software craftsmanship tour. I will be visiting three of the shining lights of the software industry over five days, exchanging ideas and learning. Arriving on the red eye from Seattle I feel like hell. My lips, not used to the dry air, are cracked and bleeding. I get changed in the JFK restroom and make my way from the airport. Following Rik’s directions I take the airtrain to Jamaica. Rik is an engineering manager at Didit in Long Island, the first stop on my tour. From Jamaica I take the Long Island Rail Road train to Rockville Centre, home of Didit.

• Is this a DNS or server-side error?

  I am having difficulty accessing a specific website. (I get 500 Server fault errors) I can access this site on my iPhone when NOT connected to WiFi. I CANNOT access the site when connected to WiFi or via a Ethernet connection to my home network. I thought it might be a DNS issue, so I copied the DNSservers from a friend who has a different ISP, and has no problem access the site. No luck. Also tried some of the public DNS servers out there, again, with no luck. Does anyone have any idea on how to trace this issue?

• Playing a Song causing WP7 to crash on phone, but not on emulator

  Hi there, I am trying to implement a song into a game that begins playing and continually loops on Windows Phone 7 via XNA 4.0. On the emulator, this works fine, however when deployed to a phone, it simply gives a black screen before going back to the home screen. Here is the rogue code in question, and commenting this code out makes the app run fine on the phone: // in the constructor fields private Song song; // in the LoadContent() method song = Content.Load<Song>("song"); // in the Update() method if (MediaPlayer.GameHasControl && MediaPlayer.State != MediaState.Playing) { MediaPlayer.Play(song); } The song file itself is a 2:53 long, 2.28mb .wma file at 106kbps bitrate. • 3 Servers, is this is a cluster?

  Hello, At the moment I have one Ubuntu server, 9.10, running with a simple Samba share, a mail server, DNS server and DHCP server. Mostly its just there for file sharing and email server. I also have 2 other servers that are exactly the same hardware and spec as the first, which have an rsync set up to retrieve the shared folders and backs them up. However, if the first server goes down, all of our shares disappear along with our mail and the system must be rebuilt. Also I tend to find if people are downloading a large amount from the file server, no-one can access there emails - especially in the morning when everyone is signing in at once. Would it be more beneficial for me to have all 3 servers, all running the same services, doing the same thing with some sort of cluster with load balancing? I'm not really sure where to begin looking, or how to go about such a setup where 3 servers are all identical, but perhaps one acts as the main load balancer?? If someone can point me in the right direction, or if this simply sounds like one of those Enterprise Cloud's that is now a default setup in Ubuntu Server 9.10+, then I'll go down that route. • Thoughts on Development using Virtual Machines

  I'll be working as a development lead for a startup and I've suggested that we use VMs for development. I'm not talking about each developer having a desktop with VMs for testing/development, I mean having a server rack where all VMs are managed and have the developers work from a microPC (ChromeOS anyone?) locally, or even remotely from their home computer. To me, the benefits are the fact that it's extremely scalable, cheaper in the long run, easier to manage and that we utilize the hardware its maximum potential. As for cons, I can't think of any particular showstoppers other than we'll need someone to setup/maintain said setup. I was hoping that some of you might of had a similar setup at your place of employment and be able to weight in with your opinions. Thanks.

• How can I break out of ssh when it locks?

  Hi, I frequently ssh into my box at home from school, but usually when I change classes and my computer suspends, the pipe will be broken. However, ssh simply locks up - ^c, ^z and ^d have no effect. It's annoying to have to restart my terminal, and even more annoying to have to close and re-create a new screen window. So my question, is there an easy way to make ssh die properly (i.e. when the pipe fails "normally" it will exit with a message about a broken pipe)? Or do I have to figure out what the PID is and manually kill it? Thanks!

• How do I set my bluetooth keyboard's layout setting?

  I have upgraded to 11.10 and I have a HP Mini 2140 with a swiss layout keyboard. I could set that on the system setting and for the keyboard I have no problems. But I also use a Logitech DiNovo Edge bluetooth keyboard when I'm at home, and there is no way to set it in the right layout (the french swiss one). How can I correct that? It's very strange because when I connect my Logitech keyboard is set on the American layout, but the one of the PC is still on the swiss french layout.

• Robocopy failure with Windows Server 2008 Scheduled Task

  So I have a batch script for robocopy. Running this from the command line does exactly what I want. robocopy "D:\SQL Backup" \\server1\Backup$\daily /mir /s /copyall /log:\\lmcrfs4g\NavBackup$\robocopyLog.txt /np Then I create a Scheduled Task in Windows Server 2008. If I set up the task to use my Domain Admin account, great. But I'm trying to get it to run as a separate domain account for Scheduled Tasks. If I use that account, folders get created, but files aren't copied. I get the following error: 2011/02/17 15:41:48 ERROR 1307 (0x0000051B) Copying NTFS Security to Destination Directory D:\SQL Backup\folder\ This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object. I've verified my domain\Scheduled Tasks account has Full Control NTFS permissions on both the source and destination, and the Full Control Sharing on my hidden \server1\backup$ share. Just for giggles, I've tried adding the domain account to the local Administrators group on both servers. This works fine, but that seems like a lot of privileges just to copy files. Any ideas on what I'm missing?

• SBS 2011 Essentials and too many new Mac users

  We currently have about 15 users on a Windows SBS 2011 Essentials Server. I've just been informed that we plan to bring aboard about 15 more users that will be using Macs. We'll be using a Mac Server to manage the 15 new Macs, however, I'm looking for advice on how to best set this all up. Ideally I would just add the 15 new Mac users to Active Directory and setup the Mac Server to authenticate against AD, unfortunately the SBS 2011 Essentials Server has a limit of 25 users, so adding these new users to AD won't work unless we upgrade the Windows server (which I'd rather avoid since it's a lot of work and a lot of money). That leaves the option of creating user accounts for these 15 Mac users on the Mac Server only. The problem that this creates though is how do I share files been Mac users and Windows users since they are now using different systems for network authentication. Any advice (short of upgrade to SBS Standard) is highly appreciated. Thanks, Harry P.S. We don't run Exchange or anything else on our server ... it's mainly used for file sharing and enforcing security via group policies.

• cpu load measure with hyperthreading on linux

  How can I get the true usage of a multicore hyperthreading enabled cpu? For example lets consider a 2 core CPU, expressing 4 virtual cores. A single threaded workload would now show up as 100% in top, as one core of the virtual cores is completely used. The CPU and top work as expected, like there would be 4 real cores. With two threads however, the things get arkward: If all works well, they are balanced to the two real cores, so we got 200% usage: Two times 100% and two idle virtual cores, and are using all of the available CPU power. Seems ok to me. However, if the two threads would run on a single real core, they would show up as using two times 100%, that makes 200% virtual core usage. But on the real side, that would be one core sharing its power on the two threads, which are then using only one half of the total CPU power. So the usage numbers shown by top can not be used to measure the total CPU workload. I also wonder how hyperthreading balances two virtual on a real core. If two threads take a different amount of cycles, would the virtual cores 'adapt' so that both show a 100% load even if the real load differ?

• Why is ssh-add adding duplicate identity keys?

  I have created a private/public SSH key pair using "ssh-keygen". I use this to authenticate to remote servers. However, I find that when I log in, "ssh-add -l" already lists my identity key even though I have not added it! If I use the command "ssh-add" it prompts me for my passphrase and loads my identity key. If I then list my keys with "ssh-add -l", it now shows two identity keys! These are obviously the same as both have the same fingerprint, but their descriptions are different (the automatically is "user@host (RSA)" and the one added using ssh-add is "/home/user/.ssh/id_rsa (RSA)"). So why does my identity key appear to be loaded without any action on my part, and why does ssh-add add the same key again? Obviously something must be doing this automatically, but what is it, and how can I stop it?
