• Using Excel To Read Access Without MS Access On Computer

  I have written code that joins two table in access, using criteria supplied from drop down lists in excel and then returns the data to a specific location on the spreadsheet (titles already on the sheet). This works fine on my box and others with MS Access on the machine, but the purpose of writing this was to give people (associates) that dont have the MS Access on their machines (which is most of them) to be able to do simple queries to the database. When we try to run this on a machine without MS Access, we are getting the error message "Compile Error: Cant find project or library." Since this works fine on any machine so far that has Access, but not the others I am wondering if this is not possible without the actual Access software. Any help or insight would be appreciated.   I want to display text in a Silverlight application so that the user can copy and paste it elsewhere (as one is used to doing on an HTML web site). If I use TextBlock, then the user cannot cut and paste. Therefore I use TextBox, but it has a default border on it. I can remove the border with BorderThickness="0" like this: <TextBox Grid.Column="1" BorderThickness="0" Text="{Binding ViewModelBindingStringsBlockHelp}"/> which works great: However, when the user hovers over the text box to select the text, another border appears: I've found purported solutions but they seem to require pages of XAML. I'm looking for a simple solution like this: HoverBorderThickness="0" What is an easy way to hide the hover border on a Silverlight TextBox?

  I've designed an EF4 model (quite complex inheritance, lots of small tables incl. multiple self-referencing), generated (table-per-type) a database and inserted some basic data manually. It works fine in an ASP.Net Dynamic Data Entities web application with full automatic scaffolding. But when in a WinForms application using the same model (I share it as a part of a class library) I construct a query and bind a combo box to it (the way it's shown here), I get an InnerException {"Internal .NET Framework Data Provider error 1004, 0, Unable to find property... I've found a question about the same problem here (incl. a sample to reproduce the error) but no answer. I use final Visual Studio 2010, no beta.

  I'm trying to write a rails application. I'm a ruby-on-rails newbie. I have a User model and a Hobby model. class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :hobbies end class Hobby < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user end During the new user registration, I have used a text box where I enter a value for hobby. Then, when I press a button 'Add hobby', a method in UsersController add_hobby is to be called where I intend to append the value entered for hobby by user to the user i.e @user.hobbies << hobby However, my problem is that the user object has not been saved yet, so there is no way to access a particular user object. How do I get around this problem ?

  I am using a user control that I created (just a .cs file not an .ascx file), that does some magic and depending on a value generated by the control, I need it to do something on the parent page that is 'hosting' the control. It needs to call a method under certain circumstances (method is on the parent control). the control is placed on the parent page like so: <customtag:MyControl ID="something" runat="server" /> I'm dynamically creating buttons etc on the control itself but when a button is clicked, let's say for example that there's a text box on the control and if the value of the textbox is "bob" it needs to call a method on the page that's housing the control...how can I accomplish this?

  I would like to implement a toggle splitbutton with jQuery UI that would on toggle action change the style of the "dropdown" part as well (as seen in http://jsfiddle.net/8khz2/3/ - I'd like to appear it on 1st click as white, same as "Toggle" button does). Does anyone see a way to achieve that out of the box or only with CSS, without additional javascript code? I am trying to implement this technique to respond to users for errors or messages in general. lights-out-dimmingcovering-background-content-with-jquery This method uses the onclick event and that's not what im after, I have tried to replace .onclick with .load but that doesn't seem to work. I'm after a quick fix as I really don't have the time to learn jquery or its event handlers.   Why ISO/ANSI didn't standardize C++ at the binary level? There are many portability issues with C++, which is only because of lack of it's standardization at the binary level. Don Box writes, (quoting from his book Essential COM, chapter COM As A Better C++) C++ and Portability Once the decision is made to distribute a C++ class as a DLL, one is faced with one of the fundamental weaknesses of C++, that is, lack of standardization at the binary level. Although the ISO/ANSI C++ Draft Working Paper attempts to codify which programs will compile and what the semantic effects of running them will be, it makes no attempt to standardize the binary runtime model of C++. The first time this problem will become evident is when a client tries to link against the FastString DLL's import library from a C++ developement environment other than the one used to build the FastString DLL. I've found hints that it might be WGS84 but after converting to that coordinate system, nothing shows up when i paste the coordinates into the google maps search box. I am converting from GDA MGA 56.   I've written code that can make a phone dial a number from a function call, that's done and dusted. What I would like to achieve is adding a Dial button to each phone number field on the forms in Dynamics CRM. Eventually this could also create a new phone record fill in the basic details and show it to the user to enter notes and an outcome for the phone call, and perhaps some other workflow bits to schedule the next call. Can I put a custom control on a standard form in place of the standard control. I'm assuming it would have to be an IFrame to an asp.net page, that pulls in the record id, and the field name, looks up the number to show in a text box, and passes the number to the DialNumber function. Hey presto... I assume its not going to be that easy... Has anyone tried this before, what's the process, what are the gotchas?

  Has anyone tried using BIRT for reporting on a Rails app.. I am working on a pretty big app on ROR. I was trying to get BIRT to work happily with the app. Since the BIRT Report Designer cannot be used with Rails, I decided to use BIRT Viewer alone and give the links to the reports on the page and have BIRT Viewer running on Tomcat on the same box to render the reports. This has a big problem of not being able to allow the user to create any custom reports. Has anybody tried anything even remotely close to this??? If yes do you have any tips for me on any part of this endeavor? Thanks in advance for all the help.

  Open a new query window. Write some SQL. Save the script, the Save File As dialog box opens - but always to the same default location in the Profiles directory. Is there any way to set my default file location? ...Like I used to do with apps from the 1980s? Under Tools|Options a default location can be specified for query results. I need the same thing for new queries (the text editor). Tried changing locations in the Registry but SSMS just overwrote my changes. Any suggestions?   Imagine a "search box" on the right top side of the UI Windows Application. When user types a desired action, a matching functionality is executed. Screen gets opened, or action gets performed. For example: user types "create" and intellisence offered next word options "client"/"product", user picks "client", and "Create New Client" screen opens up. So what I am looking for if there is a framework support for this. I assume that framework shall bind together text commands names, commands and show in intellisense. Same framework possibly could have been used in alternative "Command Line interface". I recall Microsoft had some recent framework that helps to setup "command Line Interface" environmental.   HI I have to implement login over SSL in my website. for example cloginForm - this is the form https://www.myweb.com/loginProcess - this is the action which process the form -authenticates user. I am able to do this with usual web form but the problem is the overlay dialog box for login for example if I am on my website home page http://www.myweb.com - notice http and I click a login link there , it shows a small html div with login form (like a litebox).now ,as I am on a non SSL page (http) the data which I post does not get encrypted,and posted to the process action. How do I get around with this so that my overly login also becomes secure. thanks for your help in advance. :)
