  • Trying to set the message-id, in-reply-to, etc... in ActionMailer

    I'm working on an app that needs to be able to send out email updates and then route the reply back to the original item. All emails will come to a single address (this can't change unfortunately), and I need to be able to determine where they go. My initial thought was setting the message-id for the item so that it comes back as a References header. any ideas on how to accomplish this with ActionMailer?

  • Reading the registry of a (windows computer) from a web app (silverlight? php? etc)

    Is there a way to read the windows registry from a web based application with no user interaction? im open to language suggestions, any language will work i just need to know how to pull a certain string from one particular registry key. EDIT: incase this wasnt clear, im operating inside of a web-browser, obviously.. its a web application, weather it be silverlight, java, php, or something else.

Actually I would like to know whether we should load the xml first and then the swf and other components or the other way round ?   • Correct ifdef for DWORD_PTR, INT_PTR, LONG_PTR, UINT_PTR, ULONG_PTR etc?

    There are some new integer types in the Windows API to support Win64. They haven't always been suppoprted; e.g. they aren't present in MSVC6. How can I write an #if condition to detect if these types are supported by <windows.h>? (My code needs to compile under many different versions of Microsoft Visual C++, including MSVC6. So I need to provide my own definitions of these types, with an #if to disable them in newer compilers).

  • What is it that automatically checks config changes (such as those in /etc) into git?

    I remember reading on the ubuntu forums some time ago about a program to automatically check configuration changes into version control for you. It was (of course) not Ubuntu-specific. I'm pretty sure it used git, though it may have been svn, or perhaps even able to work with multiple different VCSs. My Googling has turned up nothing, and I'd rather not roll my own script if someone has already done this well. Of course I could just manually check things in, but there are reasons I'd like it done automatically. (I'm actually planning to use this for my LastSession.plist file for Safari, so when the #@$%^*&! thing crashes, and I don't restore everything, and then Leopard crashes, the fact that it has such lousy session management won't mean I lose the dozens of windows with dozens of tabs I had open.)

    I work for an IT department with about 50+ developers. It used to be about 100+ developers but was cut because of the recession. When our department was bigger there was an ambitious effort made to set up a special architecture group. One thing this group decided to do was create our own internal logger. They thought it was such a simple task that we could spend recources and do it ourselves. Now we are having issues with performance and difficulty viewing the logs generated and some employees are frustrated that we are spending recources on infrastructure stuff like this instead of focusing on serving our business and using stuff that already exists like log4net or Enterprise Logger. Can you assist me in listing up reasons why you should not create your own .net logger. Also reasons for why you should are welcome to get a fair point of view :)

  • Why Shouldn't I Programmatically Submit Username/Password to Facebook/Twitter/Amazon/etc?

    I wish there was a central, fully customizable, open source, universal login system that allowed you to login and manage all of your online accounts (maybe there is?)... I just found RPXNow today after starting to build a Sinatra app to login to Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, OpenID, and EventBrite, and it looks like it might save some time. But I keep wondering, not being an authentication guru, why couldn't I just have a sleek login page saying "Enter username and password, and check your login service", and then in the background either scrape the login page from say EventBrite and programmatically submit the form with Mechanize, or use an API if there was one? It would be so much cleaner and such a better user experience if they didn't have to go through popups and redirects and they could use any previously existing accounts. My question is: What are the reasons why I shouldn't do something like that? I don't know much about the serious details of cookies/sessions/security, so if you could be descriptive or point me to some helpful links that would be awesome. Thanks!

  • How do I apply css for textboxes only but not for all the <input> types like CheckBoxes, etc.?

    If all browsers supported attribute selectors, we could easily do the following: input[type='text'] { font:bold 0.8em 'courier new',courier,monospace; } input[type='radio'] { margin:0 20px; } input[type='checkbox'] { border:2px solid red; But I don't think all IE versions of ^ and greater support this. I think I'd like to avoid skins. Not sure why, other than I tried them and I recall having a negative experience. It was probably my lack of knowledge. Are there any issues in using and CSS, external or otherwise? What's the best way to handle this? Currently I am assigning separate classes to each control type.

    I have been assigned an 'easy' task of adding a button over a playing video. Thanks! And now the weird problem i am facing is: In the sample project developer has added the view ( UILabel and UIButton ) in the Appdelegate. And i want it other xib files not the App delegate . Fine i added a view 'myButtonABC' instead of 'My Overlay View'. And added this code in my xib file's implementation file. As i am not working in the app delegate class. As i said previously i have to add this button over a video in other screen and not on the main screen. The third question is can anyone, which in fact is the most imp of all. In my view , if i am able to do this one my problem would be solved. As i have spend considerable amount of time on this task so far. The question is " How can i connect myABCButton (which is a view added to my xib file ) to the File's Owner. Thanks for your patience.   • Design PDF template and populate data at runtime using java,xml etc..

    well i have been looking for a java based PDF solutions...we dont have a clean way i guess-still.. all solutions are primitive and kind of workarounds... No easy solution for this requirement - 1. Designing a PDF template using a IDE (eg. Livecycle designer ..which is not free) 2. Then at runtime using java, populate data into this PDF template...either using xml or other datasources... such a simple requirement and NONE has a good "open-source and free" solution yet ! Is anyone aware of any ? I have been searching for since 3-4 years now..for a clean way out... Eclipse BIRT comes close.. but does not handle Barcode elements ..OOB. Jasper - ireport is also good but that tool does not have a table concept and is kind of annoying ! Also barcode support is not good. XSL-FO has not free IDE for design . Looking for a better answer .. got one ?

  • Resources to learn about engineering aspects of data analytics (OLAP, warehousing, ETL, etc.)

    I'm a math/stats guy, interested in learning more about the engineering aspects of "data analytics" (this may be an overly broad term, this is a case of "I don't know what I don't know", so I'm not sure how to be more specific). I'm fine with manipulating and analyzing the data once it's already stored somewhere and I can access it, and I'm fine with writing scripts and SQL queries (and have a general knowledge of things like normalization). What I don't know is the whole engineering process of capturing and storing the data. For example, terms I've heard thrown about that I only vaguely understand the meaning of include: - OLAP, OLTP - Data warehousing - ETL - ??? What's a good book (or any other resource) to learn about these kinds of things? What are things I should know about database design (normalization seems kinda "obvious" to me, something I would have done even before I knew the term -- is there anything else?)? In other words, for jobs falling under the umbrella term of "analytics engineer", what kinds of things should I know?

  • Bespoke Development or Leverage SharePoint With Web Parts etc?

    Hi all, We are currently in the process of drawing up a solution for an existing client, creating a number of eServices. The client currently have MOSS 2007. The proposed solution is to use MOSS as the launching pad for the eServices… The requirement involves drawing up several online forms which provide registration facilities as well as facilitating a workflow of some sort. I have been told that the proposed solution requires complex web forms. Most are complex forms with parent child details that have multiple windows. The proposed solution is to do some bespoke development, developing ASP .NET forms. These forms would be deployed under the _layouts folder of the current MOSS portal, inheriting the master page design on the current site. I have been told that this approach make development and deployment more simple, as well has having ‘complete integration’ with MOSS. My questions are: Is this the best way to leverage SharePoint – it seems like the proposed solution is not leveraging MOSS at all..! I thought perhaps utilizing Web Parts would be better, but I have been told that this is more complex and developing more smarter intuitive UI is more difficult. Is this really the case? If not, what should be the recommended approach? We will be utilizing Ultimus as the workflow engine. However, I have been recommended K2 Workflows. Anyone used both/have any opinions on either?     Hi, I am using the below js code in order to change the class when a link is clicked. document.getElementById("gifts").setAttribute("class", "gkvSprite selected"); This is not working in IE but it does in FF and Chrome Then I changed the code to : document.getElementById("gifts").setAttribute("className", "gkvSprite selected"); Then it worked in IE stopped working in FF and Chrome.   • How to convert Unicode strings (\u00e2, etc) into NSString for display?

    I am trying to support arbitrary unicode from a variety of international users. They have already put a bunch of data into sqlite databases on their iPhones, and now I want to capture the data into a database, then send it back to their device. Right now I am using a php page that is sending data back to from an internet mysql database. The data is saved in the mysql database properly, but when it's sent back it comes out as unicode text, such as Frank\u00e2\u0080\u0099s iPad instead of just Frank's iPad where the apostrophe should really be a curly apostrophe. The answer posted to another question indicates that there is no built-in Cocoa methods to convert the "\u00e2\u0080\u0099" portion of the unicode string from the webserver to an NSString object. Is this correct? That seems really surprising (and scarily disappointing), since Cocoa definitely allows input from many different Unicode characters, and I need to support any arbitrary language that I have never heard of, and all of the possible characters. I save them to and from the local sqlite database just fine now, but once I send it to a web server, then perhaps pull down different data, I want to ensure the data pulled from the web server is correctly formatted.

  • C# - How to make a custom installer for games, etc?

    Hello. Can anyone tell me how to create a custom installer to 'install' games. I say custom meaning I don't want the user to have the option where the game is installed. I want it to be a straight forward process, maybe with just one loading bar. The program I'm developing is a 'center' for game playing, which includes a community and other features, such as a timer that records how long a game is played for. I just thought that installing each game in one place, with a simple installer would make the program easier to use. It also will allow me to do other features as the games will all be installed in one place. No need for the user to specify where the game is installed. Would this be possible? Thanks.

  • Retrieve Heap memory size and its usage statistics etc...?

    Lets say I open some application or process. Did some work with that. Now I closed it. Need to know whether this application caused any memory leak. i.e used up some heap memory and not cleared it properly. Can I get this statistics some how? I'm using Visual Studio (for development) under Windows OS. Even I would be interested in knowing this information for any 3rd party application.
