    I have a bitmap and I want to scale it up to fill an ImageView and overlay the unscaled version of the bitmap on top. Which would be cheaper (in terms of memory and processor usage)? Using two ImageViews, one for each version of the bitmap Using a canvas and drawing on the singular bitmap, using one ImageView I saw this question about ImageView vs Canvas, but it doesn't address memory/processor concerns. My intuition says two ImageViews may use more RAM, while using a canvas would use more processing power while the drawing occurs.

  • Rotated image in ImageView

    I want to show an arrow that indicates the direction towards a goal, using the orientation sensor and current GPS position. Everything works well, except that I want to rotate the arrow image in my ImageView. The current code, which shows the arrow pointing upwards, is this: ImageViewArrow.setImageResource(R.drawable.arrow); What is the best solution for showing the arrow, rotated by N degrees?

  • samsung galaxy tab 4 not recognized by eclipse

    the just released samsung galaxy tab 4 tablet does bring up the 'autoplay' box with device options when connected, but is not being recognized by eclipse, nothing shows in the device window. I have enabled debugging on the galaxy tab, including tapping the 'about' box 7 times to make the developer options magically appear. it runs kitkat and the Samsung site has a 'no data available' under the driver tab for this device. since it just came out at target last week it's unlikely there would be a new driver anyway, which has been the usual suggestion for this question on older models.

    I want to enter string " -< " in strings.xml file, the string has character < and I couldn't add it to xml file without error! I even tried to escaping by \ character: <string name="search_target_arrow"> -\< </string> or enclosing it between "" as below: <string name="search_target_arrow">" -< "</string> but none worked. Maybe I'm very amateur at this and the answer is not hard for you. so please tell me how you add such special chars in strings.xml?

  • BitmapFactory.decodeFile out of memory with images 2400x2400

    I need to send an image from a file to a server. The server request the image in a resolution of 2400x2400. What I'm trying to do is: 1) Get a Bitmap using BitmapFactory.decodeFile using the correct inSampleSize. 2) Compress the image in JPEG with a quality of 40% 3) Encode the image in base64 4) Sent to the server I cannot achieve the first step, it throws an out of memory exception. I'm sure the inSampleSize is correct but I suppose even with inSampleSize the Bitmap is huge (around 30 MB in DDMS). Any ideas how can do it? Can I do these steps without created a bitmap object? I mean doing it on filesystem instead of RAM memory.     I have been going through the google docs for the locationManager API and specifically over the method locationManager.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER, 60000, 10, this); In the above line, the manager will check for location updates after each minute and distance of 10 meters. My question is does it actually take both the parameters into consideration? For example if you are driving along how will the method work? Will it start looking for updated locations since you are over the minimum distance between the two updates or will it wait for a minute irrespective? If someone can tell me its behavior, it would be great. Thanks.!!

  • How do I get the raw dimensions of a bitmap in an ImageView?

    It seems like I might be overlooking something obvious, but I can't figure out how to retrieve the raw (unscaled) dimensions of a bitmap being displayed in an ImageView. For example, if I load a bitmap using Bitmap b = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(...), I can get those dimensions from b.getWidth() and b.getHeight(), and I could pass the bitmap into an ImageView using setImageBitmap(b). But if I have a subclass of ImageView, is there any way to retrieve those dimensions without having to pass them in explicitly? I guess I'm looking for a getImageBitmap() analog of ImageView's setImageBitmap() method, which would retrieve a Bitmap object that I can call getWidth() and getHeight() on. Any other way to retrieve the original dimensions would work too, though.

  • Google Cloud Messaging

    I downloaded the GCM project from git and i was able to start the server (app engine for java) and also compile the client apk on the device. On startup the device successfully registers with the server and I can see the registration id when i go to http://myserverip:8080/_ah/admin/. The problem is when i hit the 'Send Message' button there is a message 'Single message queued for registration id ' and it doesn't do anything. Below is a screenshot of the error i noticed on the terminal. Am i missing something. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. .

    My wish is to know how I can program a mobile website, that fit to all mobile phones. Are there any special approaches to recognize a device and render the code according to it? Which tools and coding languages are required? My first thought was to hold the website in XML, which would be parsed depending on the device. You have to consider old phones, even devices with only wap support. For example: The mobile website has to recognize Nokia N75 and render/send the code that looks optimal for this device. Same thing with an iPhone or a Motorola Razr.

  • Why is MenuItem.AdapterContextMenuInfo null when my list view has a custom adapter?

    My question: Before I go and use an OnLongClickListener, is there a better way to pass the "what was clicked to create this context menu" information when your list view has a custom adapter? Here are some details: Normally, my code can just do something like this: public boolean onContextItemSelected(MenuItem item) { AdapterContextMenuInfo info = (AdapterContextMenuInfo) item.getMenuInfo(); and then go on and be happy. However, ever since I introduced a custom adapter, item.getMenuInfo() is null. This is a big problem, because my code no longer knows which item was clicked. (My custom Adapter makes each list row a checkbox and a text view) I tried this but failed: Created my own special AdapterContextMenuInfo (called "HasAViewMenuInfo"), but when I pass it in this method, it ends up being null in the menu public void onCreateContextMenu(ContextMenu menu, View v, ContextMenuInfo menuInfo) { super.onCreateContextMenu(menu, v, new HasAViewMenuInfo(v));
