  • Acrobat 9.2.0 License

    - by JP
I'm about to format a machine and I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to copy an Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard (9.2.0) license so I can reload the software. I have several re-install disks that were sent as part of Dell's packaging but have no idea how to tie the disc to the license so I was hoping to just be able to copy a specific file or something and reload using a random Acrobat 9 Standard disc. Thank you.

  • any software for managing data center, incidents, SLAs?

    - by coderwhiz
I have been looking in using OTRS - ITSM to manage all of our services but wanted to know if any software existed that is not built into a ticket system? Pretty much want to add all services and tie them to an SLA. Once that is done, we would manually declare incidents and the system would automatically send our notificaton to the proper e-mail lists for downtime/planned maintenance. Would be nice if it calculates reports for SLAs etc. thanks

  • Source for 1Gbit Ethernet hub

    - by Cat
I know I'm really reaching here, but does anyone know any source for a 1Gbit Ethernet hub? Not a router, not a switch, but a hub. I've been told by the Powers That Be that they shalt not allow any more switches on their network, any tie-ins must be via a hub. Yes, I know hubs have all sorts of issues, but I have no control over this. Cat

  • Multiple Skype Accounts in Windows 8

    - by Liath
We use Skype at work and I use Skype at home, however I have two accounts so clients can't call me at home and I'm not distracted when I'm at work. I've just upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8, in 7 I'd sign into one then sign out. With Windows 8 you have to tie it to your Windows Account. How can I maintain this distinction and still use my laptop for Skype calls when I work at home?

  • DirectCompute Lectures

    - by Daniel Moth
Previously I shared resources to get you started with DirectCompute, for taking advantage of GPGPUs in an a way that doesn't tie you to a hardware vendor (e.g. nvidia, amd). I just stumbled upon and had to share a lecture series on channel9 on DirectCompute! Here are direct links to the episodes that are up there now: DirectCompute Expert Roundtable Discussion DirectCompute Lecture Series 101- Introduction to DirectCompute DirectCompute Lecture Series 110- Memory Patterns DirectCompute Lecture Series 120- Basics of DirectCompute Application Development DirectCompute Lecture Series 210- GPU Optimizations and Performance DirectCompute Lecture Series 230- GPU Accelerated Physics DirectCompute Lecture Series 250- Integration with the Graphics Pipeline Having watched these I recommend them all, but if you only want to watch a few, I suggest #2, #3, #4 and #5. Also, you should download the "WMV (High)" so you can see the code clearly and be able to Ctrl+Shift+G for fast playback… TIP: To subscribe to channel9 GPU content, use this RSS feed. • Platform for Efficiency: Boeing Defense, Space & Security integrates supply chain processes using Oracle Business Process Management solutions. by Fred Sandsmark

    - by JuergenKress
Like most companies, aerospace giant Boeing has its jargon - words and phrases that uniquely define its products and processes. Take the word platform. It is used at Boeing to mean a family of aircraft - the F/A-18 fighter, for example, or the 777 jetliner. Boeing Defense, Space & Security since August 2009, employees in the Global Services & Support (GS&S) division of Boeing Defense, Space & Security have been talking about a different sort of platform: a supply chain technology platform, based on Oracle Business Process Management (Oracle BPM) solutions and Oracle SOA Suite. That platform, built with the assistance of Oracle Diamond Partner Capgemini, is serving as a jumping-off point for Boeing's GS&S staff to deploy radically improved business processes supported by Oracle Fusion Applications to build a high-visibility, end-to-end supply chain. This business process-driven technology platform has ambitious goals: to help GS&S respond more quickly and accurately to its customers' needs, to make business processes at all GS&S sites more consistent and less expensive, and to create a foundation for further improvement and efficiency. • ADSI, SQL, Exchange Server 2010

    - by WernerCD
Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree... We have a Domain Controller "DC1". We have Exchange Server 2010 "Postman". Say I have an Address Book: And I add a few contacts to it: How then do I get the data from that contact via ADSI? Say I want the Job Title or CustomerID field that I filled out in the Contacts list? SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(ADSI, 'SELECT EXTENSIONATTRIBUTE15 ,DISPLAYNAME ,GIVENNAME ,NAME ,SN ,SAMACCOUNTNAME FROM ''LDAP://DC=ATLANTICGENERAL,DC=ORG'' WHERE USERACCOUNTCONTROL=512 AND SAMACCOUNTTYPE=805306368 AND OBJECTCLASS=''PERSON'' AND OBJECTCLASS=''USER'' ORDER BY SAMACCOUNTTYPE ') How can I tie the Contact Card to an Active Directory User, so that I can edit either the AD account information OR the Exchange information and have them synced up?

  • How to Design a Relational Database; PASS Precon Swag and it’s “Symbolism”

    - by drsql
Update! 10 more books added to the cadre from my friends at Red-Gate. With less than a week to go, I am starting to pack up for Charlotte and PASS 2013. I love that it is in Charlotte this year so I can drive and bring along some goodies to give away. Books and toys mostly, a variety of which were chosen rather specifically for some manner of symbolism with a tie in to database design for the most part. (Okay, symbolism is perhaps a bit of a stretch, but I have tied everything, even the goofy stuff,...(read more)

  • A good way to build a game loop in OpenGL

    - by Jeff
I'm currently beginning to learn OpenGL at school, and I've started making a simple game the other day (on my own, not for school). I'm using freeglut, and am building it in C, so for my game loop I had really just been using a function I made passed to glutIdleFunc to update all the drawing and physics in one pass. This was fine for simple animations that I didn't care too much about the frame rate, but since the game is mostly physics based, I really want to (need to) tie down how fast it's updating. So my first attempt was to have my function I pass to glutIdleFunc (myIdle()) to keep track of how much time has passed since the previous call to it, and update the physics (and currently graphics) every so many milliseconds. I used timeGetTime() to do this (by using <windows.h>). And this got me to thinking, is using the idle function really a good way of going about the game loop? My question is, what is a better way to implement the game loop in OpenGL? Should I avoid using the idle function?

  • tic tac toe game ai as3

    - by David Jones
I'm looking into creating a simple tic tac toe/noughts and crosses game in actionscript3 and am trying to understand the ideas behind the ai used in a game like this. I've seen some simplistic examples online but from what I've read a game tree or something like minimax is the best way to go about this. Can anyone help explain or reference any good examples of this? I've seen that there is a library called as3ds - data structures for game developers which has a number of classes that might help tie this together? Any info/examples or help is much appreciated

  • Best way to find freelance c# developer

    - by sturdytree
I am a developer based in London developing a desktop WPF business application using c# (+ MVVM/DDD/Nhibernate/Unity/Postsharp...). I need to find someone to review my code to suggest improvements and then to write integration tests. This could potentially be an ongoing relationship, expanding into writing new features etc. It would suit an experienced developer with a strong interest in design principles and writing clean code, who can work part time. However, the developer would need to work at my home based office (although timing is flexible). Websites such as elance and odesk seem to tie you in, and I would prefer to pay a one off introduction fee and then deal with the developer direct. Stack exchange seems quite expensive but is a possibility if I don't find an alternative. So, are there any other websites I can try?

  • Your experiences with TDD [closed]

    - by SkonJeet
In your experience, does TDD prove to be a useful approach in all development projects? Do you take the approach of TDD even when working on an existing project? Also, how does mocking tie in with a TDD discipline? I'm not looking for opinions, I'm looking for developers' advice, tips and learning resources regarding TDD's usage based on their experience. I'm going to spend the day equipping myself with enough knowledge about TDD to start making small steps towards using it but I don't know to what extent I should be using it.

  • General solution to solve different sports results in different languages

    - by sq2
    I currently have some code that checks if squash and tennis scores are valid, both in javascript and PHP. This results in 4 blocks of code existing, 2 languages * 2 sports, which does not scale well should any extra sports come around, or extra languages... How can one describe the valid scores of games via a settings/text file, so that each language can parse them and apply these rules. I'm stumped with the strange tie break situations in tennis should it reach 6-6 in a set, and also infinite play off in the final set should it reach 2 sets all. ie: tennis = { "format": [ { "name": "sets" "min": 3, "max": 5, "winby": 1 }, { "name": "games" "min": 6, "max": 7, "winby": 2 } ] } squash = { "format": [ { "name": "games" "min": 3, "max": 5, "winby": 1 }, { "name": "points" "min": 15, "max": 0, "winby": 2 } ] }

  • Using components in the XNA Game State Management example?

    - by Zolomon
In the game state management example at the App Hub, they say that if you want to use components in the example you can extend the GameScreen to host other components inside itself. I'm having a very hard time trying to tie this up. I tried extending the GameScreen class by adding a public property of public List<DrawableGameCompnent> components { get; set; } and then add my components to that list when I initialize the current screen as well as looping over the components in the LoadContent, Update and Draw methods. However, this doesn't feel like the correct way to go - mainly because it doesn't work when I get to the implementation of my GameplayScreen. Any thoughts?

  • Queueing up character actions

    - by TheBroodian
I'm developing a 2D platformer with action-fighter elements. Currently things are working relatively smoothly but I'm having difficulty sorting something out. For the time, keeping my character's states and actions separated and preventing them from stepping on each others' toes is working out well and properly, but I would like to add a feature to my character to get him to behave a little bit more fluidly for the player. At the moment, he has numerous attacks and abilities that he can execute, all of them being executed with button presses. Here lies the problem: Being as everything is executed through button presses, while an action is in progress I flag the game to disregard further button presses until the action has completed. Therefore, consecutive actions cannot be performed until after the previous action has completed entirely. In runtime this behavior feels very icky, and very ungamelike. In games that rest most memorably at the forefront of my mind the player is able to execute button commands during the process of actions, and at the end of the current action, the following action is executed (seems like some sort of a queue system or something) Can anybody offer any guidance with this?

  • What is the Best Way to Incentivize a Team of Developers?

    - by Seth P.
I know in advance that people are going to see this question and think "free Red Bull." But I am actually looking for the best way to tie rewards for developers to the company's long-term goals. For example, assuming a team is working on the same software product, would it be best to reward each developer based on the condition of the final product? They are a team after all, and this will ensure that they are all working towards the common goal of getting the product out. However, this ignores the fact that some developers are stronger than others and some work harder than others. In your experience, what is the best way to incentivize a team of developers?

  • Are Promises/A a good event design pattern to implement even in synchronous languages like PHP?

    - by Xeoncross
I have always kept an eye out for event systems when writing code in scripting languages. Web applications have a history of allowing the user to add plugins and modules whenever needed. In most PHP systems you have a global/singleton event object which all interested parties tie into and wait to be alerted to changes. Event::on('event_name', $callback); Recently more patterns like the observer have been used for things like jQuery. $(el).on('event', callback); Even PHP now has built in classes for it. class Blog extends SplSubject { public function save() { $this->notify(); } } Anyway, the Promises/A proposal has caught my eye. It is designed for asynchronous systems, but I'm wondering if it is also a good design to implement now that even synchronous languages like PHP are changing. Combining Dependency Injection with Promises/A seems it might be the best combination for handling events currently.

  • I will be at NNUG Kristiansand tonight

    - by Sahil Malik
SharePoint 2010 Training: more information Greetings! I will be speaking at NNUG Kristiansand tonight (sorry for the very short notice). So I was thinking what should I demo tonight?Hmm!!!Instead of using any slides or such material, what I thought would be a tonne of fun, would be to develop a service bus based application running in Azure. This will be a good opportunity to code and talk, and run into some snafus and show off some VS2012 improvements/annoyances. At the end of an apprx. 1 hour talk, I hope to have an application ready that you can run yourself by the end of the evening. hehe :) .. now that’s cool isn’t it? :) .. Time permitting I will even tie SP2013 + ADFSv2 + Claims into it, just to be cool. Hope to see you there! • Ruby Installation System similar to NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System), feasibility?

    - by Chris Valentine
I'm learning (relearning) how to use NSIS as I have not touched it in a bit. I also have recently become familiar with the Ruby language and find it very pleasing and actually a bit fun. And upon reading about the history of Rake I had a thought. What are the pros/cons of someone making (or migrating, or something) an installation system similar to NSIS in Ruby. It seems the learning curve would be far easier (NSIS seems so low level) and probably get the same job done in far less scripting. NSIS seems very outdated. Seems it would tie into things like Rake easier and Ocra and make Ruby distribution simpler for applications too. Maybe even give me a project to work on. Any thoughts on this?

  • Moving two objects proportionally

    - by SSL
I'm trying to move two objects away from each other at a proportional distance, but on different scales. I'm not quite sure how to do this. Object A can go from position 0.1 to 1. Object B has no limits. If object B is decreasing, then Object A should be decreasing at rate R. Likewise, if Object B is increasing, then Object A increases at rate R. How can I tie these two Object positions together so that in an update loop, they automatically update their positions? I tried using: ObjA.Pos += 0.001f * ObjB.VelocityY; //0.001f is the rate This works but there's an error each time it runs. ObjA starts off at its max position 1 but then the next time it will stop at 0.97, 0.94, 0.91 etc.. This is due to the 0.001f rate I put in. Is there a way to control the rate, yet not end up with the rounding error?
