  I'm hoping to get some tips and advice on how to educate the rest of the company on how to submit proper bug reports. Currently we get tickets like: When I click this link I get a 404. (They include the page that 404s and not the page that caused it) Sometimes the right column flows into the button column. (no screenshot or additional information) Changes to xxx does seem to be working right. (EOM) Does anyone have a bug submission process/form that guides users into submitting as much information as possible?

• Fade out Label / Button / Status Bar with GTK

  What is the easiest way to fade out and fade in elements in Python / GTK 3? Coming from webdevelopment, my initial take on this problem was to call c = widget.get_style_context(), c.remove_class('visible'), c.add_class('invisible') but that didn't work out (Do I have to call something like "redraw"?) I also added a transition to the GTK CSS. Thanks, Wolf EDIT: I might specify what I would like to achieve: I have this "statusbar" which is just a vertical container on my app (like in the screenshot on top of this page http://uberwriter.wolfvollprecht.de/). If the mouse is not moving, I want to fade all that stuff out (also to preserve computing power // no recalculation of word- and char count) and to minimize "distraction"). I already found the appropriate event to listen to (motion-notify-event), so now I only need to add a simple fade out and a timeout. If someone can point me to a solution, be it with clutter or cairo, I would be very happy.

• Rendering skybox in first person shooter

  I am trying to get a skybox rendered correctly in my first person shooter game. I have the skybox cube rendering using GL_TEXTURE_CUBE_MAP. I author the cube with extents of -1 and 1 along X,Y and Z. However, I can't wrap my head around the camera transformations that I need to apply to get it right. My render loop looks something like this: mp_Camera-ApplyTransform() :: Takes the current player transformation and inverts it and pushes that on the modelview stack. Draw GameObjects Draw Skybox DrawSkybox does the following: glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_CUBE_MAP); glDepthMask(GL_FALSE); // draw the cube here with extents glDisable(GL_TEXTURE_CUBE_MAP); glDepthMask(GL_TRUE); Do I need to translate the skybox by the translation of the camera ? (btw, that didn't help either) EDIT: I forgot to mention: It looks like a small cube with unit extents. Also, I can strafe in/out of the cube. Screenshot:

• Brainworkshop won't go fullscreen

  I am unable to run brainworkshop in fullscreen mode. After correctly changing the config.ini file to launch the script in fullscreen mode all I get is a window of the same size as before but with no frame or title bar, aligned to the top right (below the menu bar and to the right of the edge of the screen). I tried posting a screenshot but as I'm a new user I wasn't allowed to... I tried looking around in the pyglet files to see if I could find anything that might be causing this but it's all beyond me. Any suggestions? Right after posting this I relaunched the script and now the same borderless, resizeable window is launched aligned to the bottom right hand corner of the screen... I'm running ubuntu 12.04 and brainworkshop 4.8.4.

• Always use dtexec.exe to test performance of your dataflows. No exceptions.

  Earlier this evening I posted a blog post entitled Investigation: Can different combinations of components effect Dataflow performance? where I compared the performance of three different dataflows all working to the same overall goal. I wanted to make one last point related to the results but I thought it warranted a blog post all of its own. Here is a screenshot of one of the dataflows that I was testing: Pretty complicated I’m sure you’ll agree. Now, when I executed this dataflow in the test it was executing in ~19seconds however in that case I was executing using the command-line tool dtexec. I also tried executing inside the BIDS development environment and in that case it took much longer – 139seconds. That’s more than seven times as long. The point I want to make is very simple. If you are testing your dataflows for performance please use dtexec. Nothing else will suffice. @Jamiet

• dash all over my unity in asus k45vd

  I installed ubuntu 13.10 in asus k45vd laptop. sometimes when I'm working with my laptop I see dashes all over my screen(showing them takes maybe less than one secconds so it's difficult to take screenshot.) This problem just is in unity in other desktops which I installed like xfce4, kde, gnome-shell there isn't this problem. in ubuntu 13.04 there was this problem in my laptop too, and I tested ubuntu in another laptop asus k55vd there is this problem in that laptop too. I thought this a unity bug in asus kxxvd series! is there any solution for this problem?

• Cross-Browser Extension Installation now Possible with Opera and Google Chrome

  People have been curious if there would be cross-browser compatibility for extensions due to Opera’s recent switch to the browser engine that Google Chrome uses. That question has now been answered. The OMG! Chrome! Blog has put together a nice tutorial on how to get cross-browser extension compatibility set up and working with your browser of choice. • LibreOffice Icons are blurry

  My LibreOffice icons for the individual apps are fine, they look great in both the launcher and the switcher. Yet, if I open the apps from the main LibreOffice program or if I open the document that I want to edit (And it opens its own "icon" as it always does), the icon is incredibly blurry. Here's what it looks like: On the launcher, I put the actual Calc and Impress launchers and on their left is the icons opened from a document. I know they aren't "blurry" as much as they are smaller. What should I do to remedy this? They are the same in the switcher (I can't find a way to take a screenshot of the switcher) Edit: I changed my Unity plugin from Rotated to standard, and the problem is still there; so, it isn't a Rotated bug.

• Ubuntu 13.10 japanese keyboard layout intercepts Caps Lock

  I've installed Ubuntu 13.10 (clean install on new machine), there are lot of changes for configuring keyboard layouts and I've tried to configure it as I've used earlier: Englis (US), Russian and Japanese (Anthy) with switching between them with Caps Lock key. (See screenshot) Caps Lock switching works fine between Russian and English and vice-versa, but with Japanese I can switch only TO Japanese (not FROM), in Japanese layout Caps Lock starting to work as usual Caps Lock (as a switch between small and BIG letters), so I need to use mouse to switch back to Ru or En layout. This happens ONLY with Japanese layouts (I've tried also simply "Japanese" and "Japanese (Kana)"), not with Chinese, Korean or anything else. I'm not sure who is blame for that, is it ibus-anthy or anything. Please help, I want to use Caps Lock to switch between all layouts. • 12.04: Having problem with REISUB

  Often my ubuntu freezes up altogether(only able to move my cursor). So i try to reboot using the keys "ALT+PrntScrn+REISUB", but this is what happens Once i finish hitting the keys RE, my screen goes BLACK and it shows up a few lines of commands (or whatever) which I dont understand. I have no other choice other than manually force shut down (by pressing power button for 3-4 seconds) Here is a screenshot of what my black screen displays as soon as I hit R,E What do these lines mean? Is there anyway I can safely restart my PC? (Since i was unable to use printscreen, i had to manually take a snap of my monitor using my camera. I had taken 3 pictures of the same screen, because I could not capture the entire text displayed on my screen in a single click)

• How to Generate Spritesheet from a 'problematic' animated Symbol in Flash Pro CS6?

  In the new Flash Pro CS6 there is an option to generate spriteheet from a symbol. An artist I'm working with created a bunch of assets for a game. One of them is a walking person as seen from a top-down view. When I look for the animation, I do not seem to find it. When I select to create a spritesheet, flash suggest creating a spritesheet with one frame in the base pose and no other (animation) frames. What is causing this and how do I correct it? 2 .I want to convert it to a sprite sheet for 32 angles of movement. Is there any magical easy way to get this done? Is there a workaround without using Flash CS6 to do the same thing?

• Ubuntu 12.04 - Workspace switcher is shown after switching to another workspace

  I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 on HP Envy 14 and found a rather interesting bug. When I switch between workspaces using keyboard shortcuts, for example moving down to Workspace 3 from Workspace 1, workspace switcher is shown (as seen on below screenshot). It stays there until I hit escape key. After debugging, the problem only happens when I change shortcut keys to Super + direction. With default Ctrl + Alt + direction, everything is OK. I've searched but haven't found this problem reported before, I'm also not sure this is called workspace switcher :) Can you please let me know what to search for, are there any logs which might have some related information?

• Firefox zombie process problem

  When I start Firefox a Firefox zombie process starts sometimes (not always) and then goes away after a few seconds (stays sometimes until firefox is closed). This problem occurs with four computers (2 laptops and 2 desktops running ubuntu 10.04, 11.10, precise beta 1 and beta 2) I also have this same problem with other distros like Fedora 16, Linux mint 12, Debian 6 and Arch Linux. Thunderbird is also affected by this zombie process problem. Firefox safe mode does NOT help! Can someone help me to fix this problem? • Simple 2d game pathfinding

  So I was trying to implement a simple pathfinding on iOS and but the outcome seems less satisfactory than what I intended to achieve.The thing is units in games like Warcraft and Red Alert move in all direction whereas units in my case only move in at most 8 directions as these 8 directions direct to the next available node.What should I do in order to achieve the result as stated above?Shrink the tile size? • font showing up as squares during installation

  I am very new to linux, just so you know. I chose ubuntu as my first linux distro. I created a boot flash drive and installed it on to my little netbook. It works fine, and I'm having fun playing around with it. Now I wanted to install it on my main computer, however after inserting the flash drive and rebooting, and after the initial startup screen, the first screen that comes up has ALL the text showing up as little squares! If I remember correctly from when I installed it on the netbook, it's asking me what language I want on this screen. Why would this happen on my main computer and not on the little netbook, when I used the exact same flash drive and installation? I have a screenshot, but since I'm new here, it won't let me post it.

  What is a good/the best way to fill a cube map with depth values that are going to give me the least amount of trouble with floating point imprecision? To get up and running I'm just writing the raw depth to the buffer, as you can imagine it's pretty terrible - I need to to improve it, but I'm not sure how. A few tutorials on directional lights divide the depth by W and store the Z/W value in the cube map - How would I perform the depth comparison in my shadow mapping step? The nvidia article here http://http.developer.nvidia.com/GPUGems/gpugems_ch12.html appears to do something completely different and use the dot of the light vector, presumably to counter the depth precision worsening over distance? He also scales the geometry so that it fits into the range -.5 +.5 - The article looks a bit dated, though - is this technique still reasonable? • Bay Area JUG Roundup 2010 - A Good Time for All

  The first Bay Area JUG Roundup (#roundup10) convened at Oracle HQ on Wednesday evening, in the palatial surroundings of the Oracle Conference Center. (Yes, there will be more!) A couple hundred people were there, I'd say. More came out of this meetup than a bunch of new contacts and some mild indigestion (or even a mild hangover): - We (meaning, Oracle) announced the opening of the eight annual Duke's Choice Awards. As described on the Web page, "The awards celebrate extreme innovation in the world of Java technology and are granted to the best and most innovative projects using the Java platform." Entries will be accepted through July 1, with winners announced at JavaOne 2010. - Even more exciting, we offered a sneak preview of the Java Road Trip, a cross-country, 20-stop bus tour this Summer involving one rock-star bus, one full-time blogger/videographer, a whole bunch of Java demos and speakers, and lots of beer and prizes. Stay tuned for more info about this. - Sonya Barry, Java.net community manager, announced the beta.java.net project - which will be the end result of the java.net migration to a Kenai back-end and retooled social/community layer (already in progress). Sonya also announced that Maven support for Java.net projects is imminent, with just a contract to be signed in the next couple of weeks.
