  • Is it possible to use Integrated Windows Auth when Server isn't on the domain?

    Our production web servers ARE NOT part of the domain, but we'd like people to be able to log in automatically since they are logged into the domain on their PC. Is there anyway to get the browser (IE7+) to send the appropriate information to the server (IIS6) so I can retrieve the ServerVariables["AUTH_USER"] or ServerVariables["LOGON_USER"]? I presume the answer is no since if I set the security for windows auth to "on" and anonymous access to "off", then the server wouldn't know what do do with any user information for a domain which it has no knowledge of. I just want to know for sure before I give the SSO team a "not possible" answer.

  • Any good GUI tool to easily create stored procs SQL server 2008 ?

    The templates for stored-procs in SSMS do not auto-populate all input columns, again there is manual work involved. I am looking for something like right-click on table and say CREATE stored-proc, and then it allows to pick a template, based on which it can populate the parameters etc. and give check-box in GUI (like table designer, you can easily add/remove a column). Some support for change management with table undergoing alter or otherwise would also be helpful. Currently we manually write all stored-procs, which i think we should be able to save time and labor with automation. Any suggestion on other free 3rd party tools ?

    I know that Facebook use their own OpenID-like system called "Facebook connect", which you can use to authenticate users on your site, among other features. In my case I have multiple Ruby on Rails applications: users.example.com profiles.example.com photos.example.com ... I would like to use 'users.example.com' as a web service that allows users to authenticate to all my other applications the same way as works "Facebook connect" or OpenID. In few words, 'users.example.com' must works as a "OpenID-like system" for my applications in 'example.com'. Can anyone give me tips and links to some useful resources? P.S.: since I am a newbie in this matter, I do not know if I'm saying things that make sense. So someone could help me to understand (if I am wrong) ...

    I published my app. I request a review to more than 150 sites but only 8 of them give me a (good) review. I can't reach the most famous blogs because I have to pay to bring on top of their queue. Now, my app seems to be nice but I have only 65 users playing it. This 65 users seems to really like it because I can see there are a lot of games played tracked in my stats. A lot of users say that my app is "fun like Doodle Jump and very addictive". So, what's the problem? Why only 65 people? In a word, how can simple games such "Doodle Jump" or "Flight Control" enter in top 10? What's their secret? What's my mistake? UPDATE: I have a site describing my app.

    Hello everyone, I have a program that will scan the contents of a website, and display it in a textbox. The problem is that it shows the html source. For example if my html code was: <html> <body> <p>Hello</p> </body> </html> instead of just showing hello, it'll show the code above... How can I get my objective c program to just read the hello, and not the html source.. I was assuming that it was the encoding when reading the website, but I might be possibly wrong..     As I understand, Java's Exception class is certainly not immutable (methods like initCause and setStackTrace give some clues about that). So is it at least thread-safe? Suppose one of my classes has a field like this: private final Exception myException; Can I safely expose this field to multiple threads? I'm not willing to discuss concrete cases where and why this situation could occur. My question is more about the principle: can I tell that a class which exposes field of Exception type is thread-safe? Another example: class CustomException extends Exception { ... } Is this class thread-safe?

  • How to reduce java concurrent mode failure and excessive gc

    In Java, the concurrent mode failure means that the concurrent collector failed to free up enough memory space form tenured and permanent gen and has to give up and let the full stop-the-world gc kicks in. The end result could be very expensive. I understand this concept but never had a good comprehensive understanding of A) what could cause a concurrent mode failure and B) what's the solution?. This sort of unclearness leads me to write/debug code without much of hints in mind and often has to shop around those performance flags from Foo to Bar without particular reasons, just have to try. I'd like to learn from developers here how your experience is. If you had previous encountered such performance issue, what was the cause and how you addressed it? If you have coding recommendations, please don't be too general. Thanks!

  • DLL response is to slow in Visual Studio

    Hi, I use a 3rd party DLL in my VB.NET project (VS2005) that responds to slow and give wrong values in debug mode. In run-time mode everything works as expected. I do understand that there are something going on in the debug mode which makes the DLL communication slow. This behavior makes it hard to debug the application correctly. Is there any way to force VS to communicate with the DLL in "run-time" mode during debugging but let the rest of the project be in control of the debugger?

  • vb.net - how do I parse a percentage value from a grid cell?

    I'm trying to parse a formatted percentage value back from a datagridviewcell that has been set with the "P" formatter: double percent = 0.96 cell.value = percent.tostring("p") gives me a displayed value of 96 % which is what I want. Now what I'm looking for is something like what is provided for the other formatting strings - NumberStyles.HexNumber, Currency etc so that I can do this double percent= double.parse( cell.value, NumberStyles.Percent ) which would give me a percent value of .96 I have scoured the .net documentation but can't find any sort of AllowPercent style like the others - is there one?     hi, i just have a few weeks programming with vc# (2008) and i'm trying to build an application (winforms) and i have the following problem... i need my application to work with and without connection to the mssql database, this sounds like piece of cake for our friend DataSet right? i can persist the data as XML or binary until i can reach the database and the DataSet will magically sync; all without bothering the user. The problem is... the few books i have read just mention that logic like a fairy tale but dont give any practical example of how to do it, can you point me to one example/demo/whatever i can read or download of an application with (equal or) similar logic?

  • How do I prove to a client/advertiser that my site's analytics numbers are what I say they are?

    I have been asked to provide recommendations on "Verified Analytics" for the next iteration of my company's site. Verified to mean that when we sell ad space, it's based on a number of page-views, and the people who buy that space want a way to verify that the numbers we give them are the actual numbers we're delivering. I have turned to The Google and the only services I can find for this sort of thing revolve around Google Analytics and the sale of a domain name. I export my analytics numbers to a PDF, have Google email the PDF to my auctioneer, and they look for signs of tampering. If no signs of tampering are found they put a little "Verified" badge on the domain auction. (Here) Other than this, and something similar on another domain sales site, I haven't found anything like what I've been asked to find. Currently we are using Google Analytics, however I've been also asked to recommend a replacement for that based on the ability to be verified. I'd rather just stick with Google Analytics since we also use Google for advertising.

    I am trying to return a php associative array to javascript array through ajaxRequest.responseText Here's what I do. First in php, I do this: $encoded = json_encode($thisarray); echo $encoded; If I echo $encoded, I get {"a":"apple,arrow","b":"boy,bank","c":"cat,camp"} Then in js script, thisarray = new Array(); thisarray = ajaxRequest.responseText; If I alert thisarray, I get {"a":"apple,arrow","b":"boy,bank","c":"cat,camp"} That's wrong since alerting an array should give error. But in this case, when I alert thisarray, I get the full array!! Needless to say, I can't call my value out of thisarray, since it is yet defined as an array. Anyone can tell me what am I missing here?

    How can i fetch the value 500 to a variable from the selected row? One solution would be to get the row position number and then the CustomerID position number. Can you please give a simple solution. SelectedItems means selected row and SubItems means the column values, so SelectedItem 0 and SubItem 0 would represent the value 500. Right?     I am working on a project that uses Albahari's PredicateBuilder library http://www.albahari.com/nutshell/ to create a linq expression dynamically at run time. I would like to find a way to translate this dynamically created linq predicate of type Expression<Func<T, bool>> into a readable english statement at runtime. I'll give a statically created linq statement as an example: from p in Purchases select p where p.Price 100 && p.Description != "Bike". For this linq statement I would want to dynamically generate at runtime an english description along the lines of: "You are searching for purchases where the price is greater than 100 and the description is not bike". Are there any libraries that already exist which accomplish this goal, keep in mind I am using PredicateBuilder to dynamically generate the where predicate. If no solution exists how would you go about building a solution? Thanks!

    I am trying to show and hide an inline element (eg a span) using jquery. If I just use toggle(), it works as expected but if I use toggle("slow") to give it an animation, it turns the span into a block element and therefore inserts breaks. Is animation possible with inline elements? I would prefer a smooth sliding if possible, rather than a fade in.   • Is there any way to "peek" at a file while it's uploading through HTTP onto a Windows box?

    I need to add a file upload function to an ASP.NET website and would like to be able to read a small portion of the file on the server while it's still uploading. A peek or preview type function so I can determine contents and give some feedback to the user while it is still uploading (we're talking about large files here). Is there any way to do this? I'm thinking worst case of writing a custom control which uploads only a fixed number of bytes of the file once chosen and then under the covers starts another upload of the full file. Not totally sure even this is possible, but I'm looking for a more elegant solution anyway... Thanks!

The plugin takes a static state of the tag UL – and run the plugin on it. which mean that if i move the “currentPageItem” from the first LI tag and give it to the next LI tag – the spasticNav doesn’t run for each object again. it still “remembers” the old state. ( because the .js file run only once at the top of the page ) So what should I add to the code in order to get dynamic “Click” event ? ( without reloading the whole page [ ajax ] ) Does anyone have any ideas about this specific plugin ? Thanks.

    I'm attempting to learn AJAX via this site. I've made it down to the section where it says "you must put the code in the onModuleLoad()" (right above listing 4). I found two areas in my Eclipse project that mention onModuleLoad(): slicr.java and the actual EntryPoint.class file in the gwt-user.jar/com.google.gwt.core.client package. When I try to add the contents of listing for to slicr.java, I get tons of cannot be resolved to a type errors and I cant add anything to EntryPoint.class as it appears to be locked from editing. I really appreciate any help someone could give me!

  • ASP.NET: CSS friendly calendar control

    I'm using the built-in Calendar control. It works, but in a few places the way the HTML is rendered is broken or not CSS-friendly and unfortunately cannot be changed (it's hard coded). I was hoping they would fix this in .NET 4.0, but as far as I can tell the Calendar control hasn't been changed at all. Also, as far as I know, there's no CSS adapter for the Calendar control. So, I would need a control that would: Allow me to customize the content of each cell (like OnDayRender works) Allow me to assign CSS classes to any HTML it may render Not render anything automatically that cannot be turned off, except layout code No auto-postback or auto-JS code (I can handle these by hand using simple links or custom JS calls) Basically a simple calendar view control that would give me full rendering control. What would you recommend? Thanks!

    Hi Im facing a problem with the car and cdr functions for example: first I defined a list called it x (define x (a (bc) d ( (ef) g ) )) so x now is equal to (a (bc) d ( (ef) g ) ) now for example I need to get the g from this list using only car and cdr (!! noshortcuts as caddr cddr !!) the correct answer is: (car(cdr(car(cdr(cdr(cdr x)))))) BUT how ? :-( I work according to the rules (the car gives the head of list and cdr gives the tail) and instead of getting the answer above I keep reaching wrong answers. Can any one help me in understanding this ... give me step or a way to solve it step by step Thanks in advance. I'm really sick of Scheme.

MyService serviceproxy = new MyService(); When I instantiate the service proxy, I get an InvalidOperationException with the following text (translated from german): Could not find default endpoint element to the contract "ServiceName.ServiceInterface" in the service model refers client configuration section. This may be because: The application configuration file was not found or not an endpoint in the client element item is found, which corresponded to this contract. Where servicename is the name I give the service when I add it in vs2008 and ServiceInterface the interface which is automatically generated for it.

  • Is Work Stealing always the most appropriate user-level thread scheduling algorithm?

    I've been investigating different scheduling algorithms for a thread pool I am implementing. Due to the nature of the problem I am solving I can assume that the tasks being run in parallel are independent and do not spawn any new tasks. The tasks can be of varying sizes. I went immediately for the most popular scheduling algorithm "work stealing" using lock-free deques for the local job queues, and I am relatively happy with this approach. However I'm wondering whether there are any common cases where work-stealing is not the best approach. For this particular problem I have a good estimate of the size of each individual task. Work-stealing does not make use of this information and I'm wondering if there is any scheduler which will give better load-balancing than work-stealing with this information (obviously with the same efficiency). NB. This question ties up with a previous question.

  • How do I register multiple paths for a HttpHandler in IIS7?

    I have a HttpHandler that resizes images based on the querystring, so requesting something like: http://server/image.jpg?width=320&height=240 will give you a resized image that's 320x240. In the IIS Manager, under Handler Mappings, I mapped my handler's path as *.jpg,*.gif,*.bmp,*.png. However, this doesn't activate the handler. If I change it to just *.jpg, then it works. My question is, do I have to create 4 separate mapping entries, one for each image type, or is there some way to combine multiple extensions in one path?
