• Need direction in creating a voice chat application

  I want to create a voice chat application as a part of a project. However, i am totally lacking direction regarding the programming language to use, the technologies involved. Can somebody please guide me as to how i should proceed ? Here are the features that i require : user to user voice chat ability to chat in conference (more than 2 users) How do i connect one user to another ? How to handle voice transmission ? How to effectively route packets in a conference ? I'm thinking the most probably langauge to develop this in would be Flash. Any suggestions are welcome.

  Hello, I am new to C programming. I am trying to set the size of the array using a variable but I am getting an error: Storage size of 'array' isn't constant !! 01 int bound = bound*4; 02 static GLubyte vertsArray[bound]; I have noticed that when I replace bounds (within the brackets on line 02) with the number say '20', the program would run with no problems. But I am trying to set the size of the array dynamically ... Any ideas why I am getting this error ? thanks much,

• How do I create a view with a picker on the bottom and a table view on the top?

  Hi - first time asker, long-time lurker. I am trying to create an iPhone view that has a date/time picker on the bottom half of the screen, and a grouped, single-section, four-row table view on the top half of the screen (almost identical to the one Apple shows in Fig. 2-4 of their View Controller Programming Guide (but then never goes on to explain). Conceptually, I think I understand that what I need is a main view with a pair of subviews - one for the picker, and one for the table view. I'm pretty sure I can make the picker function once I have it on-screen, and I'm pretty sure I can make the table view function too. What I can't for the life of me figure out is how, programmatically speaking, to get the two views onto the screen simultaneously. I can lay it out perfectly in Interface Builder, but then it all goes to hell when I switch to Xcode...the view appears with the picker, but no table view. I'm starting to work on a project involving industrial handheld terminals. I'm early into the design phase and need to find a comparison of Windows CE and Windows Mobile. Many of the people I'll be talking to jump on the first option that sounds "good enough". I want my first suggestion to be the best based on their needs. • Design pattern for extending Android's activities?

  While programming on Android, I end up writing a parent activity which is extended by several others. A bit like ListActivity. My parent activity extends Activity. if I intend to use a Map or a List, I can't use my parent activity as superclass - the child activity can only extend one activity obviously. As such I end up writing my parent activities with the same logic for Activity, ListActivity, MapActivity and so forth. What am I looking for is some sort of trait functionality/design pattern which would help in this case. Any suggestions?

  I am developing a simple platform game using Java using BlueJ as the IDE. Right now I have player/enemy sprites, platforms and other items in the game drawn using polygons and simple shapes. Eventually I hope to replace them with actual images. For now I would like to know what is the simplest solution to setting an image (either URL or from local source) as the 'background' of my game window/canvas? I would appreciate it if it isn't something long or complex as my programming skills aren't very good and I want to keep my program as simple as possible. • How can I maximally partition a set?

  I'm trying to solve one of the Project Euler problems. As a consequence, I need an algorithm that will help me find all possible partitions of a set, in any order. For instance, given the set 2 3 3 5: 2 | 3 3 5 2 | 3 | 3 5 2 | 3 3 | 5 2 | 3 | 3 | 5 2 5 | 3 3 and so on. Pretty much every possible combination of the members of the set. I've searched the net of course, but haven't found much that's directly useful to me, since I speak programmer-ese not advanced-math-ese. Can anyone help me out with this? I can read pretty much any programming language, from BASIC to Haskell, so post in whatever language you wish.

• VB.NET: Force user to use the topmost form

  I'm programming a Minesweeper clone in Visual Studio 2010, with VB.NET, as a Windows Form Application, and I'm having trouble with the Game Won and Game Lost forms. When I show those forms, I want the game form to still be visible, so that the player can see where the mines were, but I don't want the game form to be enabled until the Game Won or Game Lost form is closed. Exactly like Windows Minesweeper does when you win or lose. There aren't any obvious properties for this, as far as I can see, and I've had no luck Googling, I don't know what terms to search. • Is there a Chrome extension to add mailto links to email addresses?

  Wait, wait, this is a programming question! I want to build an extension if none exists. Imagine this: you come across a webpage that says "Just send a message to [email protected]" but to actually send the email, you need to highlight the address and then cut and paste it into the recipient field of a new compose window of your email client of choice. Obviously life would be easier if it were simply a mailto: link, so you could click on it and have a new message created automatically. (Or if the page designer had used a form, perhaps ...) I was originally going to ask if there was an extension to enable similar functionality for unlinked twitter @username mentions but I thought this email address problem would be a simpler situation. If you think it would be useless, perhaps I should look at the twitter username problem instead. Thanks for your feedback.

  When a button/link is clicked, I want this URL to be called followed by the execution of the following statements. The ASP.Net page is in C# btw. Function A statement A call abc.apsx statement B abc.aspx is a silent page, doesn't display anything on the page but creates an output.txt file. So when abc.aspx is called, output.txt file is created and Statement B is executed seamlessly. Hope I made sense. I have no .Net programming knowledge. Please help me. Thank you..

  I am a Java programmer, and just starting to use Visual Studio to do C# programming. In Java IDE such as Eclipse, if I do not know the classname in a package, I can just type a dot (.) after a package name, then I will get a list of all the classes in that package in the IDE. How I can configure visual studio to do the similar thing, say, if I click a namespace name in a file (for example, using System), or add a dot after the namespace, all the classes in that namespace will be displayed somewhere in the IDE?

• Problem: connecting to drupal on hostgator without pointed domain.

  I need to connect to drupal on a website that I'm programming on a hostgator account. The website that I'm working on currently receives a lot of traffic, and I would like to make sure that it is fully functional before I launch the new website. The old website was programmed with .asp which hostgator doesn't support, and the old webhost doesn't support drupal or .php which are integral to the new web design. Drupal 6 has been freshly installed on my website, but when I try to login, it redirects me to http://gator83.hostgator.com/?q=node&destination=node instead of the drupal control panel. Is it possible to work around this? Thank you in advance.

• iPhone simple commercial barcode reader via camera

  Hey all, I've done some iPhone programming (safely midlevel) and now a requirement has come up for us to write a barcode reader that uses the iPhone camera. This is not for shopping or the general public but will be for internal use. My first thought was to simply programatically take a picture, upload it to server, and have a web service or something similar handle the heavy lifting of extracting the numbers out of the bar code. However I recently installed some apps already available on the iPhone that read bar codes, refer you to shopping sites, etc. and they seem to use the video camera to identify barcodes and extract the numbers. Does anyone know how this is being done or could point me to some open source or sample code?

I've been working on this for hours but I can't seem to get anywhere. Using recursion I can navigate through every path but I'm just unsure as to how I should record the lengths of the paths.   Sorry if this is better suited at serverfault, but I think it learns more towards the programming side of things. I have some code that's going into /etc/rc.local to detect what type of touch screen monitor is plugged in and changes out the xorg.conf before launching X. Here is a small snippet: CURRENT_MONITOR=`ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'` case $CURRENT_MONITOR in '') CURRENT_MONITOR='none' ;; esac If one of those two touch screens is plugged in, it works just fine. If any other monitor is plugged in, it stops at the "CURRENT_MONITOR=ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'." For testing I touched two files. One before creating CURRENT_MONITOR and one after CURRENT_MONITOR and only file touched before is created. I'm not a bash programmer so this might be something very obvious.

In this scenario, there's a Java-based game that has a map of the game world oriented in an X, Y coordinate tile system. Some of the grid tiles are player cities, some are non-player locations. The game runs inside a frame in the browser, the X, Y coordinate map feature is one optional view, and the entire map is not available to view at any one time. Each grid tile has an "Onclick" event and an "Onmouseover" event. The mouseover event is a tooltip, the click event is something called a "modal" that has information specific to that tile. What I'd like to find out is: How can I poll all the grid tiles' "modal" information using some kind of script or other auto-running polling feature?

  This is the bane of my programming existence. After deploying an application, when this error crops up, no amount of debug dump tells you WHAT object was not instantiated. I have the call stack, that's great, it tells me roughly where the object is, but is there any way to get .NET to tell me the actual name of the object? If you catch them while debugging, of course the program breaks right on the offending creature, but if it happens after the program is in the wild, good luck. There has to be a way. I've explored the exceptions returned in these instances and there is just nothing helpful.

  I've got a game in VB6 and it works great and all, but I have been toying with the idea of creating a scripting engine. Ii'm thinking I'd like VB6 to read in flat text script files for me and then lex/parse/execute them. I have good programming experience, and I've built a simple C compiler, as well as a LOGO emulator before. My question is: Are there any tools that I can use, like Lexx/Yakk/Bison to help me? How should I approach this problem in regards to lexing, parsing, and feeding the commands back to VB6 so I can handle them? Is this idea a BAD IDEA in the sense that there are too many obstacles in the way (For example, building minesweeper in assembly, though not impossible, is very difficult, and a bad idea.)?

  Is there any way to get the content of a webfile (namely a .html Document) using a proxy, which is not defined in the system settings? I know that NSURLConnection is the right way to download a web file into a variable and not into a file (for which we should use NSURLDownload), but I don't find a way to use a proxy for it.   I am writing a massively parallel GPU application. I have been optimizing it by hand. I received a 20% performance increase with _fdividef(x, y), and according to The Cuda C Programming Guide (section C.2.1), using similar functions for multiplication and adding is also beneficial. The function is stated as this: "_fmulrn,rz,ru,rd". __fdividef(x,y) was not stated with the arguments in brackets. I was wondering, what are those brackets? If I run the simple code: int t = __fmul_(5,4); I a compiler error about how _fmul is undefined. I have the CUDA runtime included, so I don't think it is a setup thing; rather it is something to do with those square brackets. How do I correctly use this function? Thank you.

• Default.png images and iPad.

  I'm about to submit my first iPad app, and I have 2 questions regarding to Default.png images. I would prefer a "splash screen" showing some artwork of my app, instead of the UI as if it was loaded, the app is a bit heavy and I've seen the users dispair when the UI is apparently loaded but it's not working. Does anyone know if apple is accepting apps with "splash screens"? I want to provide a Default-X.png for every orientation, I've read the iPad programming guide, my question is, is "Default-LandscapeLeft" a Default image rotated 90 degrees clockwise, and "Default-LandscapeRight" rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise? I'm asking this because I don't have an iPad yet to test this on. Thank you a lot in advance.
