• How to create a static delegate from main-viewcontroller?

  Hi, hope someone can help me on learning some new stuff about delegates in iOS-programming. I have a "MainViewController" which is the first VC when the app starts. I´ve a kind of modelselection with different UIImageViews and after choosing one of them, i´m pushing a new VC. I want to handle the modelChoice with a delegate, so all other viewControllers can listen to that and act based on the users choice. But does that mean that i have to alloc a new instance of that "MainViewController" in every VC? Whats the solution on that? How do i create (i think its called) static delegate? Would be great to learn that.. Thanks for sharing..

• Modifying an image with OpenGL ?

  I have a device to acquire XRay images. Due to some technical constrains, the detector is made of heterogeneous pixel size and multiple tilted and partially overlapping tiles. The image is thus distorted. The detector geometry is known precisely. I need a function converting these distorted images into a flat image with homogeneous pixel size. I have already done this by CPU, but I would like to give a try with OpenGL to use the GPU in a portable way. I have no experience with OpenGL programming, and most of the information I could find on the web was useless for this use. How should I proceed ? How do I do this ? Image size are 560x860 pixels and we have batches of 720 images to process. I'm on Ubuntu.

• JVM specification and Java compiler code useful for SCJP preparation ?

  I'm preparing the SCJP exam with the almost official study book ("SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Exam 310-065") I understand that Java programming is writting code that fulfills a certain high-level contract; So that Java can stay platform-independent. However, I have trouble understanding and remembering things when it comes to highly specific SCJP items (and they are numerous) The book stays high-level and does not provide examples of how one compiler would handle things. This is the same thing for runtime issues (JVM level): things are too much abstract for me. Rules often seems arbitrary and therefore, with no well defined purpose, are difficult to remember. Or maybe it's that sometimes I just don't get the underlying purpose. And here is the question: Would a JVM specification and/or some java compiler code help in preparing the SCJP? Have you had the need for such material or is the book sufficient enough? Also, please share the resources you used, apart from the book.

  I a reading Kerninghan and Ritchie's C programming language book and on page 37 it mentions byte sized bit patterns like : '\013' for vertical tab . '\007' for bell character . My doubts : What is byte sized in it and and what's a bit pattern ? What relevance does this hold and where can I apply it ? Is it in any sense related to escape sequences ? I can't seem to find any information what so ever about these byte sized bit patterns on the web . please help . thanks .

Specifically, I have come around the term "protocol" in various documentation and tutorials. In Objective-C, what exactly is a protocol ? Can it be compared to a C# interface ? Is the following declaration the same as saying "The class is implementing the protocol UITextFieldDelegate" ? • How do I open a hardware accelarated DirectX window on a secondary screen

  I'm looking to create a hardware accelarated DirectX (9 at the moment) window on a secondary screen. This screen is connected to the same graphics display as the primary screen (at least at the moment). Currently, when I try to open the window on the secondary screen based on window position or by dragging it there, CPU usage jumps by about 10%, which seems to indicate that windows is switching to a software fallback rather than the hardware accelaration. Machine is windows XP running a NVIDIA graphics card (varying cards as this runs on several machines), with the latest driver. It's also running CUDA at the same time to produce the images if that matters. Programming language is c++, manual window and message queue creation, no tookbox used at the moment to manage the GUI Thanks

  I want to start on a side project and here's my idea: Whenever the user's mouse is pressed down, I want a small ring around the cursor to show up. I'm mainly doing this to learn more about programming and get myself to think outside of work related materials.   I'm reading [Programming Perl][1], and I found this code snippet: sub new { my $invocant = shift; my $class = ref($invocant) || $invocant; my $self = { color => "bay", legs => 4, owner => undef, @_, # Override previous attributes }; return bless $self, $class; } With constructors like this one, what's the benefit of calling new on an object instance? I assume that it's what it's for, right? My guess is that if anyone would want to write such a constructor, he would have to add some more code that copies the attributes of the first object to the one about to be created.

  sorry if this is irrelevance :-) I need to write something in my html code to convert digits of form 0123456789 to ?????????? (Persian digits uni06F0..uni06F9). the number of visitors is generated by blog service. and I want to convert its digits to Arabic. Counter: ????? ????????????? : <BlogSky:Weblog Counter /> ??? the Persian part of above code mean 'Number of visitors' and 'Persons' (from left to right). but digits are represented in latin (0123...). Is it possible to write something like a function in html? i want it to be a global one for using in weblogs. Note: I don't know anything about web programming languages. I'm not sure about language of above code. (html?)

• Sprintf equivalent in Mathematica?

  I don't know why Wikipedia lists Mathematica as a programming language with printf. I just couldn't find the equivalent in Mathematica. My specific task is to process a list of data files with padded numbers, which I used to do it in bash with fn=$(printf "filename_%05d" $n) The closest function I found in Mathematica is PaddedForm. And after some trial and error, I got it with "filename_" <> PaddedForm[ Round@#, 4, NumberPadding -> {"0", ""} ]& It is very odd that I have to use the number 4 to get the result similar to what I get from "%05d". I don't understand this behavior at all. Can someone explain it to me? And is it the best way to achieve what I used to in bash?

• Planning a skillset for a fallback career [closed]

  I'm not too certain this is a SO question, but I didn't think it belonged in meta either. Long story short, I am bioinformatics researcher. I like to code, it's my favourite part of the job. I have been thinking for a while that if academia is not kind to me, I might seek a career in software development. My current contract is for three years and I would like to spend some time over the next 3 three years learning and practicing software development as possible. Python seems like a popular language and it what I mostly use to do things for me, but I am also in heavy use of R. So my main question is: Are python and R good things to be learning with a sotfware dev goal in mind, and if so, is there any particular type of programming or software that might be useful to have experience with. • How to create an iPad directory view like animation?

  In the recent iOS 4.2 update, Apple introduced a nice animation for creating one level directories. I am trying to figure out how to implement a similar animation in my project. I would deeply appreciate it if anyone could give me any pointers to do this efficiently. From my investigation, I believe this animation or effect could be done very efficiently using Core Image which would allow me to write a custom filter. Unfortunately, Core Image is not available in iPhone. So how can do it? I read a blog post that explained a core animation scheme to create an iPad flip clock. The problem I have is similar but has important differences. Besides, I not excited about saving the subimage combinations, which I believe can cause a memory issue. Please enlighten me on the possible ways of doing this animation. I am relatively new to iOS programming, so I might have missed obvious ways of doing this animation or effect.

• First and last window don't show up.

  Hi, I'm creating a WinApi application for my programming course. The program is supposed to show an LED clock using a separate window for each 'block'. I have figured most of it out, except for one thing: when creating the two-dimensional array of windows, the first and last window never show up. Here's the piece of code from the InitInstance function: for (int x=0;x<8;x++) for (int y=0;y<7;y++) { digitWnd[x][y] = CreateWindowEx((WS_EX_LAYERED | WS_EX_TRANSPARENT | WS_EX_NOACTIVATE | WS_EX_STATICEDGE), szWindowClass, szTitle, (WS_POPUP| WS_BORDER), NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL, dummyWnd, NULL, hInstance, NULL); ShowWindow(digitWnd[x][y], nCmdShow); UpdateWindow(digitWnd[x][y]); } The same loop bounds are used everytime I interact with the windows (set position and enable/disable). All the windows seem to be working fine, except for digitWnd[0][0] and digitWnd[7][6]... Any ideas as to what is happening?

• Python editor/IDE for OS X

  As a (reasonably) new Python programmer, what IDEs or editors would you recommend for Python programming on OS X and why (i.e. what features/capabilities/workflow techniques really help)? I've used Xcode and played a bit with TextMate but I can't really say that either have really hit the spot for me (although TextMate's code completion is pretty neat, I think i've been spoilt with code-completion facilities provided by editors for statically-typed languages so maybe i'm subconsciously comparing apples and oranges) I'm looking to increase my efficacy with Python and any tips would be appreciated. I know people have asked similar questions for Python IDEs in general but I am specifically concentrating on OS X and the 'Mac way'. If Xcode or TextMate are thought highly of, perhaps some suggestions as to how I could get the most benefit from the tools would help.

• Custom constructors for models in Google App Engine (python)

  I'm getting back to programming for Google App Engine and I've found, in old, unused code, instances in which I wrote constructors for models. It seems like a good idea, but there's no mention of it online and I can't test to see if it works. Here's a contrived example, with no error-checking, etc.: class Dog(db.Model): name = db.StringProperty(required=True) breeds = db.StringListProperty() age = db.IntegerProperty(default=0) def __init__(self, name, breed_list, **kwargs): db.Model.__init__(**kwargs) self.name = name self.breeds = breed_list.split() rufus = Dog('Rufus', 'spaniel terrier labrador') rufus.put() The **kwargs are passed on to the Model constructor in case the model is constructed with a specified parent or key_name, or in case other properties (like age) are specified. This constructor differs from the default in that it requires that a name and breed_list be specified (although it can't ensure that they're strings), and it parses breed_list in a way that the default constructor could not. Is this a legitimate form of instantiation, or should I just use functions or static/class methods? And if it works, why aren't custom constructors used more often?

I mean, that code that you can print and sit under a tree with a glass of wine and enjoy reading. If you can, also specify if the software is great to look at because its documentation, design, UML diagrams or just plain code. I believe UML is not very common within open-source projects. I have made some lists so it's easy to perform the calculations. Single or duplex: Singlex/Duplex Format: SRA3 / A4 / SRA3 High Gloss The idea is that if I type in an amount of 100 prints, choose SRA3 format on the list, and choose Duplex on the other list. the calculation would look like this: This is how it's calculated: Paper + (print x sides) = Price of the print job Print prices Per page (singlex or duplex): 0,6 Paper format and price: A4 reg. paper: 0,2 SRA3 High Gloss: 1,25 SRA3 reg. paper: 1 Does anyone know about this???

• VST plugin : using FFT on audio input buffer with arbitrary size, how ?

  I'm getting interested in programming a VST plugin, and I have a basic knowledge of audio dsp's and FFT's. I'd like to use VST.Net, and I'm wondering how to implement an FFT-based effect. The process-code looks like public override void Process(VstAudioBuffer[] inChannels, VstAudioBuffer[] outChannels) If I'm correct, normally the FFT would be applied on the input, some processing would be done on the FFT'd data, and then an inverse-FFT would create the processed soundbuffer. But since the FFT works on a specified buffersize that will most probably be different then the (arbitrary) amount of input/output-samples, how would you handle this ?
