• Setup CENTOS Centralized AUDIT and RSYSLOG server

  Attempting to use these links: Sending audit logs to SYSLOG server or http://wiki.rsyslog.com/index.php/Centralizing_the_audit_log I have been unable to get centralized AUDIT logging to work on my ALL-CentOS network environment. I have 6 workstations dt1...dt6, and the log files are not generated at all and I cannot tell if the messages are being sent from these workstations: dt1..dt6 over to the server (srv1). I have configured the rsyslog.conf on the workstations as shown in the link: Sending audit logs to SYSLOG server, and add the additional touches for generating the logfiles into a separate directory per YEAR/MONTH/DAY (using proper syntax) and into separate HOSTNAME-based_audit.log files. Note: RSYSLOG messaging does appear to work from the workstations over to the server, but the audit logging portion is not working. I am running CentOS-6.5 with RPMs: audit-2.2-4.el6_5.x86_64, audit-libs-2.2-4.el6_5.x86_64, and rsyslog-5.8.10-8.el6.x86_64 I have gotten zero responses from wiki.rsyslog.com and really need this to work. If needed I can send files of one of my workstations and the server to aid in the process. Thanks, Warron

• Using rsyslog to create different log files for different processes

  Scenario: I am running a cluster of machines. Each machine runs various python programs with a unique (across the cluster), but dynamically set, ID. Right now, they are all logging locally. So, I might have logs that look like: process_5.log process_6.log for processes that had ID's 5 and 6. Another machine may have: process_20.log process_25.log I wish to forward these logs to a logserver running rsyslogd. Python's logging facility has a nice syslog handler, so I understand how I could connect to the remote server. What I haven't figured out is how to use templating/DynFile to maintain log separation. e.g. on the logserver, I will want to see: process_5.log process_6.log process_20.log process_25.log which correspond to the logs of the same name on the sending machine. Is there a way to pull this off with rsyslogd templating?

  Hi, I have an application (in java) running in a windows PC and I want to send logging messages to a syslog server running in a linux box somewhere in the network. The problem I have is, that it is not clear to me what should I use as facility in this case. I.e. can I (/should I) send the logging info as one of LOCAL0-LOCAL7? Or are they not supposed to be used by remote applications? It is not clear to me if they are usable or not. Should I use USER instead? Could anyone help me on this please? Thank you

• Advised auditing method for MS SQL to track changes made to a specific table by a specific user?

  What is the best method for tracking changes or logging the queries done to a table by a specific user when the person is using Management Studio? I'm using 2008 R2 Express Edition and want to specifically track a single user who logs in through Management studio and runs queries to make changes manually. I want to see what query was run and thus determine what was changed and how. I am not interested in restoring the information. I considered Change Tracking but read that it is not ideal for auditing as well I am unsure how to read the data, then I considered the Bulk-Logging option on the database however I then have to consider handling the log files which may grow huge as the database is used constantly by a web app. I am wondering if there is a more concise method to do what I want?

  I saw on SF that there's an option in MySQL to log all queries. So, in my version (mysql-server-5.0.45-7.el5 on CentOS 5.2) this appears to be a case of enabling the 'log' option, so I edited /etc/my.cnf to add this: [mysqld] datadir=/var/lib/mysql socket=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock user=mysql old_passwords= log=/var/log/mysql-general.log [mysqld_safe] log-error=/var/log/mysqld.log pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid I then created the file and set permissions: # touch /var/log/mysql-general.log # chown mysql. /var/log/mysql-general.log # ls -l /var/log/mysql-general.log -rw-r--r-- 1 mysql mysql 0 Jan 18 15:22 /var/log/mysql-general.log But when I start mysqld I get: 120118 15:24:18 mysqld started ^G/usr/libexec/mysqld: File '/var/log/mysql-general.log' not found (Errcode: 13) 120118 15:24:18 [ERROR] Could not use /var/log/mysql-general.log for logging (error 13). Turning logging off for the whole duration of the MySQL server process. • how to automatically mount ~/Private using ecryptfs when logging in via ssh pubkey

  Raionale: I want to be able to automatically make backups to a remote machine, which will be encrypted with ecryptfs. The title says it all: I set up ecryptfs-utils on my Debian Squeeze box, and set up one user to use it via ecryptfs-setup-private. When I log in via SSH using password authentication, the ~/Private directory automatically gets mounted. How can I achieve that ~/Private also automatically gets mounted when logging in via SSH using public key authentication? Obviously, the best solution would be if ecryptfs could somehow 'use' the SSH public key to en/decrypt the data (I know that then using the user's password would not be able to en/decrypt the data any more; this would be acceptable). Probably, this will not work. So perhaps somehow call ecryptfs-mount-private via ssh before logging in via public key? Probably, then I would need to somehow pipe the passphrase through the SSH connection, right? So I would need to store it on the source machine's file system. Not nice either. Any other ideas?

• XP SP2 Event log not logging events

  I have a problem whereby a terminal appears not to be logging events correctly and occasionally appears to have problems communicating accross the network.The terminal has previously been infected with a virus which apears to have 'played' with the default group policy in the standard user profile. Although, outwardly, the terminal appears to be working normally I still have a nagging feeling that it isn't quite back to the way it was. It was infected by a user plugging in a USB Stick while the company was using the older version of the AV software...typically a week or so before it was updated.I have configured the Event logs to Overwrite as required and to be 5056KB in Maximum size. I have also attempted:- Disabling the Event Log service & restarting Renewing the EVT files in Windows\system32\config directory Restarting the event log service and restarting Clearing the event log in the Services MMC Resetting the Filters to Default in the services MMC Using the EVENTCREATE command remotely from a CMD window on the server to force an event creation event. So far the only operation to have any sort of success is the remote computer EVENTCREATE command from a CMD window on the server. As it stands, the only other time that the computer has managed to create events is while it is being restarted.Has anyone gotany ideas on how to proceed? I'm thinking that possibly a refresh of the 'Windows\system32\config\SystemProfile' folder. I'm also thinking about running a tool such as Malwarebytes but this could be slightly controvertial as the system needs to be running on 'up-time' for as long as possible. I'm also wonderign whether anyone knows of any Windows admin tools that allow me to control the event logging options or default security options so that i could get it back to some sort of standard.What I'm trying to avoid is a complte re-imaging of the terminal. Although this is an option, I dont really want to have to take it if i dont need to.Many thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone may be able to provide.

  I've installed statusnet 0.9.1 on a Windows Server via the WAMP stack and on the whole it seems to be fine. However, when logging in using IE7 or Chrome the browers invoke a file download, i.e. the File Download dialog is displayed. However, now I have a need to get them working in Firefox.   We were getting this error when trying   to connect  to a password protected access file. This is what the connection string looked likestring conString =@"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="Path to your access file";User Id=;Password=password";To fix the issue this is what we didstring conString =@"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="Path to your access file";Jet OLEDB:Database Password=password";  We removed the User id and changed the password to Jet OLEDB:Database Password Hope this helps someone

  I'm creating a game in C++ using OpenGL, and decided to go with the SOIL library for image loading, as I have used it in the past to great effect. The problem is, I've gone through the entire solution, and there is only one place where SOIL has to load a texture, and it happens long after the OpenGL context is created.   When trying to install ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso from USB I get one of the following errors http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_Check_Exception states the error can occur due to -poorly fitted heatsink/computer fans (the same problem can happen with excessive dust in the CPU fan) -an overloaded internal or external power supply (fixable by upgrading) So I tried the following -Using rubbing alcohol to remove all the thermal paste from the CPU and heatsink, I then reseated the CPU after checking all the pins on the MOBO, everything seems fine. -Boot without the GPU to see if was the PSU that is being over stressed. -Removing all RAM apart from one stick and running a Memtest86 which it passed -Using Ubuntu 10.04.4 Desktop 64 bit (Different USB slots and USB sticks) -Using Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop 64 bit (Different USB slots and USB sticks) -Reset the BIOS using the Clear CMOS jumper -Removing all HD power cables and SATA cables -Updating the BIOS from F2 to F6 My PC is using the following parts. -Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H (F6 BIOS) -Intel Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz Socket 1155 -G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V -Be Quiet Shadow Rock Pro -Be Quiet Pure Power 730W Modular PSU -Sapphire HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card Any ideas?

Here's the equivalent syntax in Python: it = iter(sequence) while True: try: value = it.next() except StopIteration: break print(value) I thought Exceptions were supposed to be used only in, well, exceptional circumstances. Why does Python use exceptions to stop iteration?

Caused by: java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find oracle.iam.platform.utils.resources.LRB bundle... Make sure your wlfullclient.jar is in the ext folder of the designconsole folder... and yes, the design console runs perfectly well in OEL 6u2.

• Good practice or service for monitoring unhandled application errors for a small organization

  I'm working with multiple software with varying ways of monitoring for errors. When I make software, I usually send email with the stack trace to admins(usually me). Some customer software is monitored by a team who check that a particular batch run was successfull. Other software might not have any monitoring at all(someone will call when things go wrong horribly). Sending emails is good, except when things start going wrong, my mail gets filled fast. Also I don't want to solve the same problem in code for every software. Is there some relatively cheap and low maintenance software or practice to handle this. I want it to be cheap/low maintenance because usually I work alone or in teams of 5 or smaller. For example it would be great if errors would be aggregated so I don't get 10 000 emails when something unexpected happens... For clarification: By unhandled errors I mean Exceptions that were unhandled by application code that were propagated to Tomcat or Jboss. I don't need help with how to catch those errors. I need help with what to do with them. Is there any cloud application that I could send my errors to? Or some simple server to install? Or some library that can handle errors using configuration files. I use Java if that is any help.

• XNA Skinned Model - Keyframe.Bone out of range exception

  I'm getting an IndexOutOfRangeException on this line of AnimationPlayer.cs: boneTransforms[keyframe.Bone] = keyframe.Transform; I don't get what it's really referring to. The error happens when keyframe.Bone is 14, but I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. The 14th bone of my model? What would that even be? I read this thread, but nothing there seemed to work. I don't have many bones, stray edges/verts, unassigned verts, unparented/non-root bones, or bones with dots in the name. What else can I be missing? Thank you for any help!

• Decision for Unchecked Exceptions in Scala

  As a java programmer, I have always been critical of Unchecked Exceptions. Mostly programmers use it as an en-route to coding easiness only to create trouble later. Also the programs (though untidy) with checked exceptions are much robust compared to unchecked counterparts. Surprisingly in Scala, there is nothing called Checked Exceptions. All the Java checked and unchecked are unchecked in Scala. What is the motivation behind this decision? For me it opens wide range of problems when using any external code. And if by chance the documentation is poor, it results in KILL.
