• Any way to add an observer to the head of the queue using Element#observe?

  This might not be possible but before I rewrite part of my application I wanted to ask... I have a JavaScript app which creates a submit <input> and observes that input's click event using Prototype's Element#observe function. For a few particular pages on one particular site which uses this app, I need to apply some additional business logic before the code which executes normally when the button is clicked. Is there any way I can use Elemen#observe to add my new event handler before the existing event handler, so I can stop the event if these new conditions aren't met? If not I'll probably solve this the "proper" way by having the application fire a specific beforeTakingAction event and add a listener for that which prevents the application from taking it's action, but that's more complicated than this simple problem requires, and requires rewriting part of a shared application for just one user...

  I'm using Spring's form tag library in a Spring MVC application that I am developing. The company I am working for has implemented some company-wide policies based on the definition of custom attributes for certain tags. For instance, by default (though the inclusion of a standard javascript file) all tags have their values automatically converted to upper case. In order to disable this one would define their tag with a custom attribute in the following way: <input type="text" uppercase="false" /> The problem is that the addition of these custom attributes to a spring:form tag causes an error at runtime. I've pasted the error below. org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /WEB-INF/jsp/reportCriteria.jsp(45,5) Attribute uppercase invalid for tag input according to TLD My question is: is there any way to extend the TLD to allow for these attributes, or is there any other way add these custom attributes to these spring:form tags?

• PHP & MySQL - saving and looping problems.

  I'm new to PHP and MySQL I want a user to be able to store multiple names and there meanings in a MySQL database tables named names using PHP I will dynamically create form fields with JQuery every time a user clicks on a link so a user can enter 1 to 1,000,000 different names and there meanings which will be stored in a table called names. Since I asked my last question I figured out how to store my values from my form using the for loop but every time I loop my values when I add one or more dynamic fields the second form field named meaning will not save the value entered also my dynamic form fields keep looping doubling, tripling and so on the entered values into the database it all depends on how many form fields are added dynamically. I was wondering how can I fix these problems? On a side note I replaced the query with echo's to see the values that are being entered. • jQuery access each matched element from '.find' by an index

  Using jQuery's .find() method to return a set of elements, I am trying to access items in the returned set by their order in that set. For example, a table with two rows and in each row a select box and two text input fields, accessed with the following: $('table#tbl').find('tr.row').each(function(i) { }); To get the first element I would have thought I could use $('table#tbl').find('tr.row').each(function(i) { alert( $(this).find(':input').get(1).val() ); }); And variations of the above, but apparently this doesn't work. Could anyone suggest the correct method to access item x of n elements returned?

• Creating tifs directly from VB.Net.

  The current applications uses .net printdocument to create print jobs which it sends to a standard printer. We use the blackice tif print driver to capture the output and manage it from there. The problem is that some print jobs take 30 seconds to come out of the queue, and blackice will not allow you to change settings on the driver (like output filename) until the job is complete. This means the application has to wait 30 seconds until it can print the next job. Is there a better way? Can I create/print tif images directly from .Net without a 3rd party print driver? Do I risk quality to do this?

  The page in question has very skeletal html sent over the wire to facilitate the building of a complicated UI in javascript. I'm now encountering a strange browser compatibility issue that feels very much like I've got a markup problem somewhere on the page. I've validated the page as it comes across the wire using the W3C tool and ensured there are no issues in that html. I've also tried validating the output of running on the browser console: document.getElementsByTagName('html')[0].outerHTML I find that the output of the above introduces lots of new issues, such as removing the trailing '/' in self closing tags. This added noise is distracting, but it also makes me uneasy about validating this method. How do you validate markup that's rendered client side?

• How can I get an image too big from a server?

  I'm currenty developing for blackberry and just bumped into this problem as i was trying to download an image from a server. The servlet which the device communicates with is working correctly, as I have made a number of tests for it. But it gives me the 413 HTTP error ("Request entity too large"). I figure i will just get the bytes, uhm, portion by portion. How can i accomplish this? • Spring mvc: controller returns [][], usable in jsp with foreach, but how to bind?

  I'm building a spring mvc application. Now the problem I have is the following. I have a controller which adds a DayInfo[][] to my ModelMap. (DayInfo has an id, a title (String) and Text(also String). Now the problem I have is that I have no problem displaying this DayInfo[][] with foreach tags in my jsp. However I'm outputting the Title property as an input box(type text), and I'd like to be able to update this value (and thus saving it to be a database but that shouldn't be a problem). However I'm having trouble with binding this value to the input box so that it is actually returned to the controller. If anyone has some advice it would be welcome.

• IE - hidden radio button not checked when the corresponding label is clicked

  I just noticed a strange behaviour in IE7. I have radio buttons with associated labels as follows: <input type="radio" name="filter" id="filter_1" value="Activities" checked="checked" /> <label for="filter_1">Activities</label> <input type="radio" name="filter" id="filter_2" value="Services" /> <label for="filter_2">Services</label> The radio button is hidden via css with display:none or visibility: hidden (don't ask) The problem is - when I click the label in IE7 (haven't looked at other IE versions yet) the associated radio button is not actually checked. I confirmed this with jquery - the label click event is fired, but the radio button click event is not. A form post also confirms that the checked radio button does not change. This works correctly in firefox, and also works correctly if I remove the CSS that hides the radio buttons. Is this an IE bug or am I missing something?

• AutoComplete field and IE

  My web page does not have the autocomplete attribute that would tell browsers not to autocomplete the field. In spite of not having this attribute, IE 8 or Safari (not sure on other browsers) does not autocomplete the page. Autocomplete does work on some sites (such as Gmail) so I am assuming that the browser setting is not causing it? • Exposing console apps to the web with Ruby

  I'm looking to expose an interactive command line program via JSON or another RPC style service using Ruby. I've found a couple tricks to do this, but im missing something when redirecting the output and input. One method at least on linux is to redirect the stdin and stdout to a file then read and write to that file asynchronously with file reads and writes. Another method ive been trying after googling around was to use open4. Then to eliminate this, I create setPartial(), getPartial() and htmlize() for using external .phtml's. This is not the best solution, because partials do not support doctype changing. • How to limit the number of post values on UpdatePanel ?

  I have notice that the UpdatePanel post every field included on the form on every trigger. But in most of my cases I use 2-3 UpdatePanels at the same page, and each one is independent. When I click for update the one panel, then my page receive all the input data of the page (ok this is logical) but I won to read only this UpdatePanels data and act according, and not the other panels data. So I see that a lot of traffic is happened this way. So is there a way to say to one UpdatePanel - send only my input data, and not everything found on the page. ? Thank you in advanced.

  Given this code, where we load a lot of data, write it to a file, and then run an exe.. void myMethod() { Map stuff = createMap(); //Consumes 250 MB memory File file = createFileInput(stuff); //Create input for exe runExectuable(file); //Run Windows exe } What is the best way to release the memory consumed by stuff prior to running the exe? We don't need this in memory any more as we have dumped the data to a file for input to the exe... Is the best method to just set stuff = null prior to runExecutable(file)?
