  • Telling a UITextField to become first responder while embedded in a UITableViewCell

    - by Jasarien
I have a UITextField that is a subview of a UITableViewCell. When my view loads, I want the text field to become first responder. I have a pointer to the text field in the table cell, so to do this I am trying: [myTextField becomeFirstResponder]; This returns NO all the time, regardless of when it's called, which according to the docs means the text field refused to become first responder... What am I doing wrong? Edit: The text field properly responds to being touched. It bring up the keyboard then. It's only when telling it to become first responder programmatically that the problem happens.

  • UISwitch within UIScrollview nearly impossible to use....

    - by samsam
Hi there. I'm using a UISwitch-Component at the bottom of a view that sits within a UIScrollView. Now the problem that appeared, is that the switch is nearly impossible to swipe because the UIScrollView seems to dominate the userinput. Switching works very well by tapping the switch, but from my point of view, most users "switch" the UISwitch instead of tapping. Did anyone of you face the same / or similar problems and managed to come up with a solution? thx in advance sam

  • How to add lowercase field to NSURLRequest header field?

    - by Drewsmits
I'm getting pretty frustrated figuring out how to add a lowercase header field to an NSMutableURLRequest. NSMutableURLRequest *urlRequest = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:MyURLString]]; [urlRequest setValue:@"aValue" forHTTPHeaderField:@"field"]; In the example above, "field" get's switched to "Field," since the header field names are case insensitive. I wouldn't think this should happen, but it does. The API I am working with is case sensitive, so my GET request is ignored. Is there any way to override the case switch? Thanks

  • How to dynamically compose a bitmask?

    - by mystify
Lets say I have to provide an value as bitmask. NSUInteger options = kFoo | kBar | kFooBar; and lets say that bitmask is really huge and may have 100 options. But which options I have, depends on a lot of situations. How could I dynamically compose such a bitmask? Is this valid? NSUInteger options; if (foo) { options = options | kFoo; } if (bar) { options = options | kBar; } if (fooBar) { options = options | kFooBar; } (despite the fact that this would probably crash when doing that | bitmask operator thing to "nothing".

  • Odd background image resizing on animating UIView

    - by Woody
I have a UIView in the middle of a view that I am using as a game playing area (in a 2d cocoa view). This image has a background image of the same size as the view. Resizing the view I use animation to make it look smooth (and that works fine). However, when the animation starts, the background image immediately changes size, tiling or being clipped to a size that when the animation finishes, the background image is physically the same size. I don't want this, I want the image to always fit the view, regardless of the view size. UIImage *bgImage = [UIImage imageNamed:@"head.png"]; ... // resize the image returning another image self.view.backgroundColor = [[UIColor alloc] initWithPatternImage:resizedImage]; [UIView beginAnimations:@"resizeView" context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:.5]; int localViewSize = ... // work out view sizes self.view.frame = CGRectMake(... ,localViewSize, localViewSize); [UIView commitAnimations]; It looks very odd as it jumps to a different size, then animates to the original size. I am guessing that maybe I would have to make a separate view underneath my main view but is that the only way?

  • strange problem when placing UILabels on UITableView and calling reloadData

But I have removed all cells in atableview before call 'reloadData'. I checked the content of fileArray which is the data source of atableview and found that everything is correct except the display on atableview. Welcome any comment. Thanks interdev

  • Compile C# into objective-C

    - by Ali Shafai
Now that monotouch is being banned, I was wondering if there is a way to translate C# (or some other modern language for that matter) into objective-C? I won't mind using apple's api as long as I don't have to declare my variables in 3-4 stages (ivar-property-synthesize-dealloc). All I want is a less wordy language to concentrate on my intent and not on the compiler syntax. unfortunately apple in its arrogance thinks objective-c is a "modern" language and if you are looking for an alternative (monotouch) it's because you are incapable of coding. also if you don't find programming in itunes; sorry, xcode enjoyable, it is not because there are better alternatives, it's because you are stupid. anyway back to my original question: can it be done?

  • How to implement UIViewController rotation in response to orientation changes?

    - by Greg Maletic
My app has about 10 different UIViewControllers, just one of which I want to switch to landscape mode if the device is rotated. (All the rest, I want to keep in portrait.) In order to implement rotation on that one view, I needed to implement its controller's 'shouldAutorotate' method and return YES. Since this view is accessed via a navigation controller, I also needed to create a subclass of UINavigationController that implements 'shouldAutorotate' and return YES. This solution works, but too well. I find that all of the UIViewControllers I push onto my subclass of UINavigationController respond to rotation, even if I implement 'shouldAutorotate' and return NO. (Remember: I only want one particular UIViewController to respond to rotation, not every one in the navigation controller's stack.) So, my question is: how do I best do this? All the solutions I can come up with seem 1) cumbersome, and 2) worse, don't seem to work. Thanks very much.

  • viewControllers is empty array

    - by Antonio
Hi: I'm having a problem using the UITabBarController and can't seem to get anywhere... maybe someone has run into something similar. I have the typical Tab Bar + Navigation app and everything is working great, except when I access options in the More tab. On any other tab, if I log: NSLog(@"%@ \n %@",self.selectedViewController,[self.selectedViewController viewControllers]); I get, for example: 2010-05-29 00:05:13.512 MD[9950:207] <UINavigationController: 0x4c35ad0> ( <MDViewController: 0x4c35910>, <Detalle: 0x9050e80> ) If I access an element in the More tab, I get: 2010-05-29 00:05:13.512 MD[9950:207] <UINavigationController: 0x4c35ad0> ( ) An empty viewControllers array? Am I missing something? Thanks! Antonio

  • How can I extract a URL from a sentence that is in a NSString?

    - by 0SX
What I'm trying to accomplish is as follows. I have a NSString with a sentence that has a URL within the sentience. I'm needing to be able to grab the URL that is presented within any sentence that is within a NSString so for example: Let's say I had this NSString NSString *someString = @"This is a sample of a http://abc.com/efg.php?EFAei687e3EsA sentence with a URL within it."; I need to be able to extract http://abc.com/efg.php?EFAei687e3EsA from within that NSString. This NSString isn't static and will be changing structure and the url will not necessarily be in the same spot of the sentence. I've tried to look into the three20 code but it makes no sense to me. How else can this be done? Thanks for help.

  • Trying to force redraw of UITableViewCell

    - by Suresh
I found this post on Beveled UITableViewCells from http://news.selectstartstudios.com/beveled-uitableviewcells/. I'm using the technique to reduce the width of the cells, and for the most part it works great. However, I have a small problem. Sometimes the cells are not redrawn properly. For example, even though a cell is supposed to be a "middle" cell, it is drawn as a "top" cell: yfrog.com/f1screenshot20100424at100 How can I fix this? I have tried forcing the cell to redraw via [cell setNeedsDisplay], [cell setNeedsLayout], [tableView reloadRowAtIndexPath:withAnimation:], [cell drawrect:], and [tableView drawRect:atIndexPath]. I am out of ideas. Thanks again!

  • Setting an delegate for the UIDatePicker animation?

    - by james.ingham
If I had a date picker within an action sheet and called the following line: [datePicker setDate:newDate animated:YES]; And then my app hides the action sheet the date picker is within, is there anyway to set up a animation delegate so that the user see's the animation of the date picker first and then hides the action sheet? I have done this with UIView's by calling: [UIView setAnimationDelegate:self]; [UIView setAnimationDidStopSelector:@selector(METHOD)]; However I can not see anything like this for the date picker. Thanks in advanced - James

  • Adding a header view to a UIWebView similar to Safari and Articles

    - by MrMage
I'd like to add a header view to an UIWebView similar to the address/search bar in MobileSafari and the excellent Articles.app by Sophia Teutschler. More precisely, I'd like to create a "pull to fix orientation" view above a UIWebView, just like in Articles. Articles does use a UIWebView, so it seems to be possible. Is there a way to accomplish this without having to embed the UIWebView into a UIScrollView and updating its size all the time, as described in this article? Apparently, I do need the scrolling events to have the "pull to fix orientation" behave accordingly.

  • View controllers inside tab bar controller not auto-resizing on rotation

    - by Padawan
(Correction: the view controllers are not auto-resizing instead of not auto-rotating.) In an iPad app, I have five regular view controllers (not navigation controllers or anything like that) inside a tab bar controller. The tab bar controller is just a plain UITabBarController declared in the app delegate. All the view controllers return YES in the shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation method. On both the simulator and device, on rotation, the tab bar and the current view controller rotate but the currently selected view controller (call it A) does not resize properly. It keeps its portrait width and height (but it is rotated). If I switch to another view controller B and then back to A (without rotating the device again), A appears correctly resized. This happens with any of the five view controllers Why doesn't the currently selected view controller resize immediately on rotation and how do I fix it? Thanks.

  • Issues dismissing keyboard conditionally

    - by Chris
    I have an app that has a username and password field. I want to validate the input before the the user is allowed to stop editing the field. To do that, I'm using the textFieldShouldEndEditing delegate method. If the input doesn't validate I display a UIAlertView. This approach works as advertised - the user cannot leave the field if the input doesn't validate. To have the done button on the keyboard dismiss the keyboard, I call resignFirstResponder on the textfield. The issue I have is the alert is being called twice. How do I keep the alert from showing twice? edit for clarification What is happening is that the alert appears, then another alert appears. I then have to dismiss both windows to fix the input. Here is the textFieldShouldEndEditing method -(BOOL)textFieldShouldEndEditing:(UITextField *)textField { NSLog(@"function called %@",textField); if([textField.text length] == 0) { return YES; } if(textField == userName) { if([self userNameValidated:textField.text]) { NSLog(@"name validated"); NSString *tempDonerName = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:(@"%@",userName.text)]; //[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setObject:tempDonerName forKey:@"name"]; [tempDonerName release]; return YES; } else { NSLog(@"name did not validate"); UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:NSLocalizedString(@"Invalid Username",@"Invalid Username title") message:NSLocalizedString(@"Please make sure there are no apostrophes,spaces in the username, and that the username is less than 12 characters",@"Invalid username message") delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:NSLocalizedString(@"OK",@"OK Text") otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; return NO; } } else if (textField == userPin) { if([self userPinValidated:textField.text]) { NSLog(@"pin validated"); //NSString *tempDonerPin = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:(@"%@",userPin.text)]; //[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setObject:tempDonerPin forKey:@"pin"]; //[tempDonerPin release]; return YES; } else { NSLog(@"pin did not validate"); UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:NSLocalizedString(@"Invalid Password",@"Invalid Pin title") message:NSLocalizedString(@"Please make sure there are no apostrophes in the password",@"Invalid password message") delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:NSLocalizedString(@"OK",@"OK Text") otherButtonTitles:nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; return NO; } }else { NSLog(@"code validate - shouldn't get called"); return YES; } }

  • cells order changes in UITableView after reloadSections: method

    - by user304895
I'm having a problem using a grouped UITableView, and after 3 days of searching, I didn't found the solution... Actually, I have a Grouped table, composed of two sections : The first section contains a UISegmentedControl with three buttons : button0, button1 and button2. When clicking on the button0, I want to show two cells in the second section, with embedded UITextField in each cell. When clicking on the button1, I want to show one cell in the second section with an embedded UITextField. When clicking on the button2, I have to show the camera in ModalView (I think it will be ok). I've also put placeholders in each UITextField. Each time a button is clicked, I call a pickOne: method in order to update my view. In this method, I construct a NSIndexSet with NSRange of (1, 1), and then I call the reloadSections: method from the UITableViewController with NSIndexSet as a parameter. When the view appears for the first time, everything is ok, but when I click many times on the buttons, the order of the cells changes (cells containing the two textFields for the button0), and the new placeHolders are written over the old ones. Even more, sometimes when I click on the button0, it shows me only the second cell... Do you have any idea ? or need some code ? Thank you :)

  • How to change disclosure style when user enters in edit mode of a UITableView?

    - by R31n4ld0
Hello, guys. I have a UITableView that in 'normal' mode, show a UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator meaning if the user taps the row, another list is showed, like HIG says: "Disclosure indicator. When this element is present, users know they can tap anywhere in the row to see the next level in the hierarchy or the choices associated with the list item. Use a disclosure indicator in a row when selecting the row results in the display of another list. Don’t use a disclosure indicator to reveal detailed information about the list item; instead, use a detail disclosure button for this purpose." When the user tap the edit button in the top bar of the UITableView, I think I have to change the disclosure because if the user tap it, a view for changing the information of the current row is showed (see the bold line above), again, like HIG says: "Detail disclosure button. Users tap this element to see detailed information about the list item. (Note that you can use this element in views other than table views, to reveal additional details about something; see “Detail Disclosure Buttons” for more information.) In a table view, use a detail disclosure button in a row to display details about the list item. Note that the detail disclosure button, unlike the disclosure indicator, can perform an action that is separate from the selection of the row. For example, in Phone Favorites, tapping the row initiates a call to the contact; tapping the detail disclosure button in the row reveals more information about the contact." Have I miss understood the HIG, or I really do have to change the disclosure style in edit mode of UITableView? If yes, how I can intercept the edit mode when the user taps the Edit button? Thanks in advance.
