  • Reuse nib's across multiple UIViewControllers

    - by colm
I've created some custom UITableViewCells in a nib file and would like to use that across multiple UIViewControllers. Can anyone tell me the best practice way to do that? My limited knowledge around loading nibs seems to suggest that you have to specify a single owner class in Interface Builder. Thanks.

  • while(1) block my recv thread

    - by zp26
    Hello. I have a problem with this code. As you can see a launch with an internal thread recv so that the program is blocked pending a given but will continue its execution, leaving the task to lock the thread. My program would continue to receive the recv data socket new_sd and so I entered an infinite loop (the commented code). The problem is that by entering the while (1) my program block before recv, but not inserting it correctly receives a string, but after that stop. Someone could help me make my recv always waiting for information? Thanks in advance for your help. -(IBAction)Chat{ [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(riceviDatiServer) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } -(void)riceviDatiServer{ NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc]init]; labelRicevuti.text = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"In attesa di ricevere i dati"]; char datiRicevuti[500]; int ricevuti; //while(1){ ricevuti = recv(new_sd, &datiRicevuti, 500, 0); labelRicevuti.text = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"%s", datiRicevuti]; //} [pool release]; }

  • Alpha transparent PNGs not displaying correctly in Mobile Safari

    - by worksology
I'm using some semi-transparent PNGs as background-images on various websites. These are usually something like a 1x1 image with a 30-percent opaque white layer. I've noticed that Mobile Safari does not display them correctly, giving them a darker/grayish tint. I've created a couple test pages to illustrate. View them both in your normal browser, and then on Mobile Safari, and you should see what I mean. This shows 11 red images of varying opacities on white: http://thecompleteworks.org/alpha-tests/index-red.html This shows 11 white images of varying opacities on blue: http://thecompleteworks.org/alpha-tests/index.html Is this a MobileSafari bug (I couldn't imagine so), or do I need to do something different, either to my pages or PNGs? (Here's how I create the PNGs: In Photoshop, create a 1x1 transparent canvas. Draw a white rectangle in Layer 1. Set opacity to, say 30 percent, Save for Web as 24-bit PNG with transparency.)

  • Plot Title/Annotation

    - by Kevin
Hello, I want to add a title to my graph that gives a short description or name about the plot. For example, I have a table with a list of products and my graph shows how much those products cost. There should be a label/annotation superimposed on the graph that gives the name of the product.

  • Doesn't [UIWindow addSubView:] retain?

    - by Dan Ray
Check it: NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSLog(@"Checking login--user value is %@", [defaults valueForKey:@"userID"]); if ([defaults valueForKey:@"userID"] == NULL){ LoginViewController *loginController = [[LoginViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LoginView" bundle:nil]; [window addSubview:loginController.view]; [loginController release]; } else { [window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; } Every other place when I put a subview into another view, I release that view after I've done that, because it's now owned by the view it's a subview of. HERE, though, when I do [loginController release], every IBAction on that loginController gets called against a deallocated instance. Commenting out that line makes everything work. I note the difference in approach between my loginController and the navigationController that came with the template; the navigationController is a synthesized property that gets released in -(void)dealloc{ }, so it's still around after being put into window.

  • How to implement UIViewController rotation in response to orientation changes?

    - by Greg Maletic
My app has about 10 different UIViewControllers, just one of which I want to switch to landscape mode if the device is rotated. (All the rest, I want to keep in portrait.) In order to implement rotation on that one view, I needed to implement its controller's 'shouldAutorotate' method and return YES. Since this view is accessed via a navigation controller, I also needed to create a subclass of UINavigationController that implements 'shouldAutorotate' and return YES. This solution works, but too well. I find that all of the UIViewControllers I push onto my subclass of UINavigationController respond to rotation, even if I implement 'shouldAutorotate' and return NO. (Remember: I only want one particular UIViewController to respond to rotation, not every one in the navigation controller's stack.) So, my question is: how do I best do this? All the solutions I can come up with seem 1) cumbersome, and 2) worse, don't seem to work. Thanks very much.

  • Re-Apply currency formatting to a UITextField on a change event

    - by Jim Aldes
Howdy all, I'm working with a UITextField that holds a localized currency value. I've seen lots of posts on how to work with this, but my question is: how do I re-apply currency formatting to the UITextField after every key press? I know that I can set up and use a currency formatter with: NSNumberFormatter *currencyFormatter = [[NSNumberFormatter alloc] init]; [currencyFormatter setNumberStyle:NSNumberFormatterCurrencyStyle]; ... [currencyFormatter stringFromNumber:...]; but I don't know how to hook it up. For instance, if the value in the field reads "$12,345" and the user taps the "6" key, then the value should change to "$123,456". Which callback is the "correct" one to do this in (should I use textField:shouldChangeCharactersInRange:replacementString: or a custom target-action) and how do I use the NSNumberFormatter to parse and re-apply formatting to the UITextField's text property? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

  • OBJ-C: Call an instance of core-plot graph from separate view controller

    - by Kevin
I'm using a view controller i.e. ViewController:UIViewController and have another class GraphViewController:UIViewController . How do I call an instance of GraphViewController and place it into my ViewController? I am currently trying to call the plot within my ViewController directly, but I want to make the graph modular so I don't have to copy code if I use the same graph again. ViewController has methods -(void) refreshGraph; //Inhereted Methods -(NSUInteger)numberOfRecordsForPlot:(CPPlot *)plot; -(NSNumber *)numberForPlot:(CPPlot *)plot field:(NSUInteger)fieldEnum recordIndex:(NSUInteger)index; How do I move these methods to a separate class and then call it to get the same plot in my ViewController? I am sure there must be a thread on this somewhere but I can't seem to find it.

  • Wishlist for Objective-C IDE/Xcode ?

    - by Null Pointer
My company is evaluating the possibility of developing set of tools for Objective-C extending Xcode default functionality(basically we are thinking about providing better navigation, semantic search, more refactorings, quick fixes, improved code completion (visual assist inspired). So we would like to ask XCode/Objective-C developers: Do you feel that you are missing some features in XCode? What is your wish list? Are you considering the possibility of using addons to Xcode which are not created by Apple? Would you be willing to pay for these addons, or would you only consider free solutions?

  • Darkening a UIView

    - by igul222
I'd like to "darken" a UIView by a certain amount. Right now, I'm doing the darkening like this: UIView *overlay = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:mainView.bounds]; overlay.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; overlay.alpha = 0.5f; [mainView addSubview:overlay]; Unfortunately, this also adds a semi-transparent black overlay to parts of mainView that are transparent. Is there any way to only darken the non-transparent sections?

  • How listen for UIButton state change?

    - by morticae
I'm extending UIButton with generic functionality to change certain appearance attributes based on the displayed title. In order to do this, I need to detect and respond to changes in the "state" property. This is so I make sure the appearance is adjusted properly if the user has set different titles for different states. I assumed I would need to use some sort of KVO like the following: [self addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"state" options:NSKeyValueObservingOptionNew context:nil]; But this does not seem to fire the observeValueForKeyPath:... method for @"state" or @"currentTitle". I assume this is because UIButton does not implement the KVO pattern for those properties. I do not want to just listen for clicks. Those events cause a state change, but are not the only potential causes. Does anyone know a way to listen to and respond to state changes of a UIButton? Thanks

  • Can I push a modal view controller from within another modal view controller?

    - by Andy
I've got a rootViewController that, at one point, displays a peoplePickerNavigationController. I'm trying to push a second view controller when my user selects a specific contact property, like so: -(BOOL)peoplePickerNavigationController:(ABPeoplePickerNavigationController *)picker shouldContinueAfterSelectingPerson:(ABPersonRef)person property:(ABPropertyID)property identifier:(ABMultiValueIdentifier)identifier { RuleBuilder *ruleBuilder = [[RuleBuilder alloc] initWithNibName:@"RuleBuilder" bundle:nil]; [self pushModalViewController:ruleBuilder animated:YES]; [ruleBuilder release]; return NO; } This compiles just fine, but when I run the code in the simulator and run through the peoplePicker, nothing happens when I select a contact property. On a whim, I added a [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; just before [ruleBuilder release]; and that dismisses the peoplePicker, but otherwise has no effect on my missing ruleBuilder. Any ideas?

  • Using CATransition in a viewController

    - by eco_bach
Hi I'm trying to implement the ViewTransitions code sample from Apple, but putting all the logic in my viewController instead of my applicationDelegate class. I'm getting a bizarre error when I try to compile. I'm importing QuartzCore in my viewcontroller implementation as #import _kCATransitionFade", referenced from: _kCATransitionFade$non_lazy_ptr in ViewTransitionsAsViewControllerViewController.o (maybe you meant: _kCATransitionFade$non_lazy_ptr) Anyone have any ideas?

  • Problem setText UITextView

    - by Mat
Hi i have a problem. I have 2 viewcontroller, in the first there is a mapView that implements the function "calloutAccessoryControlTapped" to tap a button on an annotation on the mapView; in the second there is just a UITextView. I want to change the text of the UITextView (and show the SecondViewController) in the second controller once the button on annotation is clicked; here is my code (FirstViewController) Header @interface FirstViewController<MKMapViewDelegate>{ IBOutlet MKMapView *mapView; SecondViewController *secondV;} @end Implementation @implementation FirstViewController - (void)mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView annotationView:(MKAnnotationView *)view calloutAccessoryControlTapped:(UIControl *)control{ secondV = [[SecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SecondViewController" bundle:nil]; NSString *myS = @"some text here"; [secondV.myTextView setText:myS]; //Switch from this to the secondview [self presentModalViewController:secondV animated:YES]; @end (SecondViewController) Header @interface SecondViewController{ IBOutlet UITextView *myTextView; } @property(nonatomic, retain)UITextView *postitTextView; - (IBAction)backToMAp; - (void)setText:(NSString *)string; @end Implementation @implementation SecondViewController - (IBAction)backToMAp{ //Back To First View; [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES];} - (void)setText:(NSString *)string{ myTextView.text = string;} In this code when i tap on the button ([self presentModalViewController:secondV animated:YES];) on annotation the first time the second view show up but the text of UITextView don't change, when i back on the FirstView ([self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES];) and then again tap the button to switch again to secondView the text of UITextView change..... Sorry for long thread and for my bad english!! Thank you stack!

  • Why doesn't genstrings convert NSLocalizedStringFromTable entries to table.strings?

    - by juan tendero
In my source code I have some lines like NSLocalizedStringFromTable(@"Info", @"en", @"Title of this view"). When I subsequently call genstrings -o en.lproj ./Classes/*.m I would not get the expected file en.strings but Localized.strings, although I've read in the genstrings-manpage that it would generate a table.strings file from NSLocalizedStringFromTable(a, table, c) function. Am I wrong? How would I create a table.strings file then?

  • As a game developer, which data structure use for develop the game? [duplicate]

    - by Rizwanabbasi
This question already has an answer here: When should vector/list be used? 5 answers We are developing a game for bank robbery. The game plots a bank robbery. Lots of people witness that robbery. Our game will load the lists of suspected offenders while the players (witnesses) will have to identify the offenders of this robbery. Game should load list of offenders to identify the one as quickly as possible. Admin can add/remove offenders in the lists and two or more lists of offenders can also be merged into one (to show it to the player). As a game developer, which data structure we should use for develop the game? Justify your selection with solid arguments. Remember the most critical requirement is that the list should load super fast.
