  I've got a mysql dataset that contains 86 million rows. I need to have a relatively fast search through this data. The data I'll be searching through is all strings. I also need to do partial matches. Now, if I have 'foobar' and search for '%oob%' I know it'll be really slow - it has to look at every row to see if there is a match. What methods can be used to speed queries like this up? G-Man

  Using the example code included in the man page for DateTime::Astro::Sunrise I'm getting back ~14:00 for the sunrise and ~2:00 for the sunset. my machine's time and timezone are set correctly (AFAIK) Am I reading something wrong? 2am and 2pm are just so brutually wrong.

I was looking at the timeline for my page loading and I saw that there is a 150ms delay due to some garbage collection taking place while loading the page. http://cl.ly/cce10619c698a5b276e2 It's the yellow line.   i wanted to submit a multi-threaded job to the cluster network i'm working with - but the man page about qsub is not clear how this is done - By default i guess it just sends it as a normal job regardless of the multi-threading - but this might cause problems, i.e. sending many multi-threaded jobs to the same computer, slowing things down. Does anyone know how to accomplish this? thanks. The batch server system is sge.

• On iPhone, what does EPERM (errno == 1) mean in reponse to send() of UDP data?

  We sending data over UDP from the iPhone, sometimes, but not always, in response to our first send() of UDP data, we are getting back a -1 return code and errno set to 1 (EPERM / operation not permitted). The EPERM result for send(), sendto() and sendmsg() is not documented in the man pages as a return result from those functions. Has anyone out there encountered this and might be able to shed some light on what this errno value means in this context?
