• More interruptions than cpu context switches

  I have a machine running Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.8 (lenny) 8 cores and 12Gb of RAM. We have one core permanently around 40% ~ 60% wait time and trying to spot what is happening I realized that we have more interruptions than cpu context switches.   Hi, Presently I am working on an application which sends and receives file from remote server. To do network operation I am using QNetworkAccessManager. To upload a file I am using QNetworkAccessManager::put() and to download I am using QNetworkAccessManager::get() functions. While uploading a file I will initialize a timer with time out of 15 sec. if I upload a small file it will complete it within the time out period. But if I try to upload a file which is very large in size get time out. So how to decide time out for uploading of large file. Same in case of downloading of a large file. I get file in chunk by chunk in readyread() signal. Here also if I download a large file I get time out. So how to decide time out for uploading of large file.

As by setting its loaded to false unloads it. Visibility to true reloads it and with the Math random shouldn't allow it to cache? So has anyone done this before or know how I can get this to work?

• What is the advantage of WSDualHttpBinding in WCF?

  How much benefit would there be to using WSDualHttpBinding with IIS hosted service vs. a client poll that calls the WCF service, assuming in the latter the service cached the data in question? This scenerio would be for a notify type of service where the clients need to be notified by the service when an event occurs. Specifically, what advantages would WSDualHttpBinding provide over polling? ie: Less network traffic, faster to design, easier to maintain, more control ??? From what i understand, WSDualHttpBinding is less scalable than client polling, so why use it at all? Edit: As Matt supplied, time critical can be one reason for the duplex binding. Here is what i have so far: WSDualHttpBinding adv: can get immediate response w/o waiting on polling timer dis: less scalable than WsHttpBinding dis: less firewall friendly I'll add to this based on comments, please let me know if i state anything incorrectly. thanks for you input :-)

• iPhone Gameloop render update from a separate thread

  Hi, I'm new to iPhone development. I have a game loop setup as follows. (void)CreateGameTick:(NSTimeInterval) in_time { [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(GameTick) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } My basic game tick/render looks like this (void)GameTick { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; CGRect wrect = [self bounds]; while( m_running ) { [self drawRect: wrect]; } [pool release]; } My render function gets called. However nothing gets drawn (I am using Core Graphics to draw some lines on a derived UIView). If I call my update via a timer then all is well and good. Can you tell me why the render fails when done via threads? And is it possible to make it work via threads? Thanks Rich

• jquery strange flickering on mouseover/out

  The HTML: <div id="timerList"> ... <li rel="project" class="open"> <a class="" style="" href=""><ins>&nbsp;</ins>Project C</a> </li> ... </div> The javascript/jquery: $('#timerList li[rel="project"]').mouseover(function(){ $('a:first',this).after('<span class="addNew"><a href="#">Add Timer</a></span>'); }).mouseout(function(){ $('.addNew',this).remove(); }); When I hover my mouse over an li element, a span.addNew element is created within THE PROBLEM: When I put my mouse ofer the span.addNew, it flickers on and off. Perhaps the mouseout event is firing, but I don't understand why it would or how to prevent it. Thanks!

• Async friendly DispatcherTimer wrapper/subclass

  I have a DispatcherTimer running in my code that fire every 30 seconds to update system status from the server. The timer fires in the client even if I'm debugging my server code so if I've been debugging for 5 minutes I may end up with a dozen timeouts in the client. Finally decided I needed to fix this so looking to make a more async / await friendly DispatcherTimer. Code running in DispatcherTimer must be configurable whether it is reentrant or not (i.e. if the task is already running it should not try to run it again) Should be task based (whether or not this requires I actually expose Task at the root is a gray area) Should be able to run async code and await on tasks to complete Whether it wraps or extends DispatcherTimer probably doesn't really matter but wrapping it may be slightly less ambiguous if you don't know how to use it Possibly expose bindable properties for IsRunning for UI

• WPF Window Drag/Move Boundary

  Hi everyone, just curious if you know of any way to setup a drag boundary for a window? It would be nice to have these properties: Me.MinLeft = 10 Me.MinTop = 10 Me.MaxLeft = 150 Me.MaxTop = 150 Those are made up properties, btw, which would be nice to have. I know I could probably setup a timer to fire ever 10th of a second and check the left and top and then move it back if it's over. But it would be more elegant to have the window act like it hit a wall and can't go any farther, like moving to the edge of the screen or something similar. Edit: There seems to be some confusion somewhere, the point I'm trying to make is in the paragraph above, dragging, not re-sizing.

  Within the container "BubbleContainer" I have multiple "Bubble sprites". Each bubble's graphics object (a circle) is updated on a timer event. Let's say I have 50 Bubble sprites and each circle's radius should be updated with a mathematical formula. How do I organize this logic? How do I update all Bubble sprites within the BubbleContainer? (should I call a bubble.update() function or make a temporary reference to the graphics object?) Where do I put the Math logic? (as static functions?)

• Changing UIImageView animation speed

  I am using the UIImageView to animate a bunch of images. I know that I can change the speed by altering animationDuration, but that doesn't seem to take effect until the animation is restarted. My problem is that beside not really wanting to have to restart the animation as this limits me to only being able to change the speed once per cycle, there also doesn't seem to be a way to find out what frame is currently being shown and I would therefore have to rely on a timer to "guess" which one it is. So my question is whether there is a way to change the speed without restarting the animation and if not is there some way I could avoid the aforementioned problem? I'm not too keen to write my own animation class, but may end up having to if there isn't a nicer solution.

• Wandering CGAffineTransformMakeRotation

  Okay this is about to make me insane -- any help would be appreciated. I have two images which are part of a timer application. One is the needle/hand and the other is a little hub which is styled to look like the needle base. I'm using a CGAffineTransformMakeRotation to rotate the needle and the base stays stationary. The problem: there is like a 1-2px 'wander' to the needle's rotation which makes it look like it's moving off center in relation to the base. I have worked the base and needle image over in PS extensively, and both are dead center pixel wise -- seriously. I want to show from this control a balloon tip. but the "showBalloonTip" event i slimite to a timeout and I want to show this balloon forever. I've tried to use a timer that will show the balloon again and again but in vista there is a fading effect for balloons and if it is not disabled every 25-30 seconds the balloon will fade in.   Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to prevent the contents of a uiscrollview from moving unsteadily when scrolling manually by setting the content offset. When scrolling by touch the text remains clear and steady. I would like to recreate this by animating with the animated option set to false. I'm using a timer to scroll at a given interval. The text is being drawn to a view in the contents, but it vibrates and it becomes more difficult to read clearly when animating at a greater speed. The speed varies and the scrolling must respond to changes in speed quickly. Though I restart the jboss server again, it does not invoke. I need to restart the server machine itself. • setting a timeout using a manually created forms authentication ticket

  The constructors for manually creating FormsAuthenticationTicket objects force us to set an "expiration" value, and this value overrides the "timeout" setting in web.config in my tags, which is not what I want, because now the user doesn't timeout. The "session" just expires at the given time. I need to manually create my ticket for UserData reasons, and it is just the way I decided to build my app. I guess I could spend a whole lot of time and redo the way my app. authorizes, and store the "userdata" elsewhere... but this seems extremely tedious for something so small.. Is there anyway to manually create an Auth Ticket and still maintain timeout settings?! And by timeout, I mean resetting the timer on user activity. Not a fixed timeout! Please help!

  I'm working with the the Release Candidate of Visual Studio 2010 using Wf4 to write a new workflow for approving resource requests. In my workflow, I would like for a request to expire after a few days if no approval has been made for the request. We did this in WF 3.5 (Visual Studio 2008) by adding a Delay timer into an EventDrivenActivity parallel to the EventDrivenActivity that was awaiting an approver to come and approve the request. If the Delay expired before an approval was made, the EventDrivenActivity would terminate the request. Does anyone know if there is a similar mechanism for doing this in WF4?

  Im using jQuery and working on a notification system for my site. The notifications automatically fadeout using the setTimeout function. How can i stop the timer of the setTimeout call? For example i would like to pause the setTimeout call while the mouse is over the notification and continue the count down mouseout... I googled "pause setTimeout" with no luck. Im currently clearing the setTimeout call with clearTimeout and at same time fading out the notification on mouseout but it would be nice to have that pause effect. Any ideas?
