  I have a two column view Product Id Tag ---------------------- 1 Leather 1 Watch 2 Red 2 Necklace 2 Pearl I'm trying to get all possible combinations of tags for a product as such: 1 Leather 1 Leather,Watch 2 Pearl 2 Pearl,Necklace 2 Pearl Necklace,Red 2 Necklace 2 Necklace, Red 2 Red I've found and stolen some SQL that give me the complete list for all but not the small versions, its below. Any ideas, it's started to make my head hurt. A virtual pint for the best answer. • Most efficient way to fetch and output Content with 2-Level Comments?

  I have some content with up to 2-levels of replies. I am wondering what the most efficient way to fetch and output the replies. I should note that I am planning on storing the comments with fields content_id and reply_to, where reply_to refers to which comment it is in reply to (if any). Any criticism on this design is welcome. In pseudo-code (ish), my first attempt would be: # in outputting content CONTENT_ID all_comments = fetch all comments where content_id == CONTENT_ID root_comments = filter all_comments with reply_to == None children_comments = filter all_comments with reply_to != None output_comments = list() for each root_comment children = filter children_comments, reply_to == root_comment.id output_coments.append( (root_comment, children) ) send output_comments to template Is this the best way to do this? Thanks in advance. Edit: On second thought, I'll want to preserve date-order on the comments, so I'll have to do this a bit differently, or at least just sort the comments afterward.

• Swiz mandates weak encapsulation.

  I just started using Swiz, and, it seems like Swiz forces you to create classes with weak encapsulation. Swiz requires all event handlers to be public in order to mediate events. Assume that component 'A' dispatches a few events, which I want to listen to in component 'B'. Traditionally, I'll just add event listeners on 'A' in 'B' and all the event handlers in 'B' can be kept private. However, if, I am using Swiz, I need to make all the handlers, mediating events, public. Am I missing something here, is there a way to bypass this problem. I really, don't want to pollute the public interface of my class. Thanks.

  I want to print labels in words as returned by a SQL query such as follow. 1 2 3 4 5 6 When I want to print the reverse of those labels, I have to print them as follow 3 2 1 6 5 4 In my real case, I have 5 colums by 2 rows, how can I formulate my query so that my records are ordered like the second one.   I need to make my image fitting into my div, I want the picture to be only inside the div, the rest of the picture will be behind the other elements. Basically I want to achieve the same effect as here http://tommywebdesigner.com/Home%20Page.html but with the div id="background"and div id="content" i have created. As you can see first i gave margin-bottom="350px to the header in order to create a blank space, here i have the space for the img in my div id="background"which is located under (z-index: -1;) and the rest of the elements is placed over inside the the div id="content" (z-index:2;) I need now a Javascript which fit this image in the div id="background". • Invalidating non-client areas

  I've a window which I draw a custom border/caption, in order to do that I handle WM_NCPAINT message. My captin has two backgrounds a brighter one when it is the active window, and a darker one when it is in the background. But under some circumstances, for example when the window loses/gain focus, my caption is not updated so I end with the wrong background. Until now I've handled WM_NCACTIVATE, and send a RedrawWindow(hwnd, NULL, NULL, RDW_FRAME|RDW_INVALIDATE), but this causes the whole window to repaint. Do you have any advice about this?

• Can in-memory SQLite databases scale with concurrency?

  In order to prevent a SQLite in-memory database from being cleaned up, one must use the same connection to access the database. However, using the same connection causes SQLite to synchronize access to the database. Thus, if I have many threads performing reads against an in-memory database, it is slower on a multi-core machine than the exact same code running against a file-backed database. Is there any way to get the best of both worlds? That is, an in-memory database that permits multiple, concurrent calls to the database?

  I'm looking for a concise and functional style way to apply a function to one element of a tuple and return the new tuple, in Python. For example, for the following input: inp = ("hello", "my", "friend") I would like to be able to get the following output: out = ("hello", "MY", "friend") I came up with two solutions which I'm not satisfied with. One uses a higher-order function. def apply_at(arr, func, i): return arr[0:i] + [func(arr[i])] + arr[i+1:] apply_at(inp, lambda x: x.upper(), 1) One uses list comprehensions (this one assumes the length of the tuple is known). [(a,b.upper(),c) for a,b,c in [inp]][0] Is there a better way? Thanks!

• Multi-threaded downloader in C# question

  Currently I have multi-threaded downloader class that uses HttpWebRequest/Response. All works fine, it's super fast, BUT.. the problem is that the data needs to be streamed while it's downloading to another app. That means that it must be streamed in the right order, the first chunk first, and then the next in the queue. Currently my downloader class is sync and Download() returns byte[]. In my async multi-threaded class I make for example, list with 4 empty elements (for slots) and I pass each index of the slot to each thread using the Download() function. That simulates synchronization, but that's not what I need. How should I do the queue thing, to make sure the data is streamed as soon as the first chunk start downloading.

  Where can I find some examples on how to manipulate the time objects by days/hours/etc? I would like to do this: time.now_by_hour #=> "Tue Jun 15 23 MST 2010" time.now_by_day #=> ""Tue Jun 15 MST 2010" time.now_by_hour - 4.weeks - 3.days #=> "Sat May 15 MST 2010" What is the recommended order of operations? The reason for this is I would like to run through lists of times and sort them by date to the hour, not to the minute and second.

  I'm not the best at understanding these things with php and smarty, but this is really annoying. On: http://www.euroworker.no/order, there is meant to be a display of the amount of tax included in the price like: Tax (25%): 772,- Totalt: 3861,- But unless the user has logged in or created a new account, the tax doesn't display.   I apologize if this is a trivial question or my understanding of rails is weak. I have 2 actions in my controller, index and refine_data. index fetches and displays all the data from a database table. refine_data weeds out unwanted data using regex and returns a subset of the data. Controller looks like: def index Result.paginate :per_page => 5, :page => params[:page], :order => 'created_at DESC' end def refine_data results = Result.all new_results = get_subset(results) redirect_to :action => 'index' end I would like to redirect the refine_data action to the same view (index) with new_results. As new_results are not from the database table (or model), how do I go about constructing my paginate?

• Model in sub-directory via app_label?

  In order to place my models in sub-folders I tried to use the app_label Meta field as described here. My directory structure looks like this: project apps foo models _init_.py bar_model.py In bar_model.py I define my Model like this: from django.db import models class SomeModel(models.Model): field = models.TextField() class Meta: app_label = "foo" I can successfully import the model like so: from apps.foo.models.bar_model import SomeModel However, running: ./manage.py syncdb does not create the table for the model. In verbose mode I do see, however, that the app "foo" is properly recognized (it's in INSTALLED_APPS in settings.py). Moving the model to models.py under foo does work. Is there some specific convention not documented with app_label or with the whole mechanism that prevents this model structure from being recognized by syncdb?

• Using a different array for vertices and normals in glDrawElements (OpenGL/VBOs)

  I'm currently programming a .obj loader in OpenGL. I store the vertex data in a VBO, then bind it using Vertex Attribs. Same for normals. Thing is, the normal data and vertex data aren't stored in the same order. The indices I give to glDrawElements to render the mesh are used, I suppose, by OpenGL to get vertices in the vertex VBO and to get normals in the normals VBO. Is there an opengl way, besides using glBegin/glVertex/glNormal/glEnd to tell glDrawElements to use an index for vertices and an other index for normals? Thanks

• PHP: Safe way to store decryptable passwords

  I'm making an application in PHP and there is a requirement that it must be possible to decrypt the passwords in order to avoid problems in the future with switching user database to different system. What encryption/decryption algorithm would you suggest? Is it good idea to just store the encrypted value and then compare the future authentication attempts to that value? Are the passwords still as safe as MD5/SHA1 when the private key is not available to the attacker (Hidden in USB drive for example)? I should still use salting, right? What encryption libraries should I use for PHP?

• Subtracting two lists in Python

  In Python, How can one subtract two non-unique, unordered lists? Say we have a = [0,1,2,1,0] and b = [0, 1, 1] I'd like to do something like c = a - b and have c be [2, 0] or [0, 2] order doesn't matter to me. This should throw an exception if a does not contain all elements in b. Note this is different from sets! I'm not interested in finding the difference of the sets of elements in a and b, I'm interested in the difference between the actual collections of elements in a and b. I can probably work this out with a for loop, looking up the first element of b in a and then removing the element from b and from a, etc. But this doesn't appeal to me, I'd like to do this with list comprehension in a nice and easy way. Is this possible?

• One regular expression to match parts in various positions

  Hi all, I'm trying to parse a DSN (from a Symfony application) using regular expressions, in order to link with a secondary application, but using the same database. The DSN I currently have is: mysql:dbname=my_db_name;host=localhost with a regex of: /^(\w+):(dbname=(\w+))?;?(host=(\w+))?/ (using preg_match()). This matches OK, but fails in my test environment because the DSN elements are switched around, thus: mysql:host=localhost;dbname=my_testdb_name I could just switch them round, yes :-) but I'm sure that extraction of the host and dbname parts from both DSNs is possible with a single regular expression, and I'd like to be able to enhance my knowledge at the same time ;-) Is there a way I can do this?

• Not able to kill bad kernel running on NVIDIA GPU

  Hi, I am in a real fix. Please help. Its urgent. I have a host process that spawns multiple host(CPU) threads. These threads in turn call the CUDA kernel. These CUDA kernels are written by external users. So it might be bad kernels that enter infinite loop. In order to overcome this I have put a time-out of 2 mins that will kill the corresponding CPU thread. Will killing the CPU thread also kill the kernel running on the GPU? As far as what I have tested it does'nt. How can I also kill all the threads currently running in the GPU? Thanks, Arvind

• Getting a unix timestamp as a string in C++

  I'm using the function time() in order to get a timestamp in C++, but, after doing so, I need to convert it to a string. I can't use ctime, as I need the timestamp itself (in its 10 character format). Trouble is, I have no idea what form a time_t variable takes, so I don't know what I'm converting it from. cout handles it, so it must be a string of some description, but I have no idea what. If anyone could help me with this it'd be much appreciated, I'm completely stumped. Alternately, can you provide the output of ctime to a MySQL datetime field and have it interpreted correctly? I'd still appreciate an answer to the first part of my question for understanding's sake, but this would solve my problem.

Gmail.com). i want once he click the submit button.a jQuery script check these login info on gmail.com and return back the result.they are wrong or working logins. and notify the user if it is wrong logins but if it is good working login info the form will submit. i don't know much jQuery but i am good with php. my search find that in order to do that i need to make cross-domain scripting by using php proxy between my jQuery script and the remote domain. i found also the simple php proxy. which looks great.but i dont know how to make the jQuery thing that connects all this together.
