• Microsoft Robotics Studio in Ubuntu, with Wine ?

  I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and I am a bit of a robotics enthusiast. I have used KiKS (in MATLAB for simulating Khepera robots), MobotSim (in Windows, simulates a point like robot using a BASIC editor) and Player/Stage (with C/C++ on Ubuntu 9.04). My question, can MS Robotics Studio be installed in Ubuntu Linux using Wine (I am using 1.1.31) ? Has anyone done it ? Any other way to install MS Robotics Studio in Unix (Any flavour) ? • How to structure class to support imported 3d model ?

  Hello, I've written a C++ library that reads in this 3d model file (collada DAE). uptil now, I would output a list of triangles and handle each at rendering stage. But now, I need to attach some Bounding sphere information with the imported model. I need some advice on how should I organize this in code. Here are some specs of the 3D file format: - 3D model is represented as a Tree consisting of nodes - each node can contain other nodes, geometry information, transformation etc My requirements: - a bounding sphere associated with each node, thereby yielding a tree of bounding sphere hierarchy for the model itself. - actual vertex information What would be the recommended way to deal with this situation? • Solid FFmpeg wrapper for C#/.NET

  I have been searching the web for some time for a solid FFmpeg wrapper for C#/.NET. But I have yet to come up with something useful. I have found the following three projects, but all of them apears to be dead in early alpha stage. FFmpeg.NET ffmpeg-sharp FFLIB.NET So my question is if anyone knows of a wrapper project that is more mature? I am not looking for a full transcoding engine with job queues and more. Just a simple wrapper so I do not have to make a command line call and then parse the console output, but can make method calls and use eventlisteners for progress. And please feel free to mention any active projects, even if they are stil in the early stages.

• Java framework "suggestion" for persisting the results from an Oracle 9i stored procedure using Apac

  Hello, I am developing a Java servlet which calls an Oracle stored procedure. The stored procedure is likely to "grow" over time, and I have concerns the amount of time taken to "display the results on a web page". While I am at the implementation stage, I would like some suggestions of a Persistence framework which will work on Apache Tomcat 5.5? I see two approaches to persisting the database results. A scheduled database query every N minutes, or something which utilises triggers. Hibernate seems like the obvious answer, but I have never called stored procedures from Hibernate (HQL and Criteria). Is there a more appropriate framework which can be used? Thank you. cheers Miles.

• Capturing USB Plug/Unplug events in Firemonkey

  [RAD Studio XE3 / C++] I have a FMX project running in Windows only at this stage, but I need to detect events when USB devices are connected and disconnected. I have a similar VCL app that can do this fine, but the Application-HookMainWindow is not exposed in FMX (only VCL). Is there an elegant way to handle this? Or do I have to hack some VCL stuff into my FMX app to make that work? I'd imagine I have to abstract it so I can support other platforms down the track. For the meantime though I need to get the Windows solution working. If the 'VCL hack' thing is required, how would I reference the vcl::Forms::Application from within my Fmx app? Cheers.

• Jquery live not working in IE

  Hi, I have some code that works fine in FF but not in IE. I have read other posts saying that the Jquery live method does not support change events but I am using a click event. Here is my code, it is inside $(document).ready(function(): $("a").live("click", function(e) { alert("link clicked"); //do stuff }); If FF the alert is fired but not in IE. When I use $("a").click it works fine, the problem is that I need to the function to be applied to links that do not exist when the page is first loaded (they will be created via ajax calls at a later stage). Do I have any options here. We are using jquery-1.4.1.min.js. Thanks in advance

  I simply create a movie clip, put it on the stage and give it an instance name of char. What else could it be?

• Make a connection to a HTTPS server from Java and ignore the validity of the security certificate

  I've been testing some that works with a bunch of https servers with different keys, some of which are invalid and all of them are not in the local key store for my JVM. I am really only testing things out, so I don't care about the security at this stage. Is there a good way to make POST calls to the server and tell Java not to worry about the security certificates? My google searches for this have brought up some code examples that make a class to do the validation, that always works, but I cannot get it to connect to any of the servers.

• 2-Version software: Best VCS approach?

  I suppose I'd better explain my situation: I'm in the process of developing some software, and I'm at the stage where I'd like to split my project into two branches which differ in features. It so happens that this application is an Android application which I will be deploying on the Market, which has the constraint that every app must have a unique package identifier (sensible, no?). My current approach has been to clone the git repo of my original project, but this causes issues with package names. I want the system to be robust enough so that a bugfix/new feature on one branch will merge into another branch, but only when I want it to. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  I am creating a Wordpress blog (no live link yet because it's still at a planning stage). I want to set up the following tag structure: Category 1: Services Tags: Web design, logo design, print design, etc etc. Category 2: Type of clients Tags: small businesses, large companies So each post will be tagged with one or more tags from Category 1, and one tag from Category 2. However, I heard that using more than one Category per post is a bad idea in terms of SEO? But then, how can I go about it? I don't want any SEO penalties, but I will need to somehow categorize each post using these 2 distinct categories. Should I create some custom taxonomies? That seems like an overkill to me. The solution is probably something rather simple but it just escapes me. I'm not very experienced with taxonomies so I'll appreciate any suggestions.

One of the main use cases / constraints is that it must support generating dynamic pages. I.e., the page/form layout and components is stored in a database and is changeable at runtime, and from this pages are generated. We are also going to write static layouts, but that is not the main focus of this question. I thought maybe the user community here can share experiences of different frameworks in this context. Are there differences in ease of implementation and what is suitable?

Currently I have a list of restaurants, and when i click on a particular restaurant I want it to open up another screen that will show its address, google map etc. What I need help with is knowing how to set click events on the items in the list. • I want to make the browser fullscreen through my flex website

  I have a website which is built totally in flex. I want to make a button, on the click of which the browser becomes fullscreen. I am not talking about a flex fullscreen, by which i mean "Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;" I dont want to use this. The reason, I dont want to use it is, that flash does not supports keyboard on flex-fullscreen. But if i can make the browser fullscreen, it will solve my purpose. Plz help me with this. • Reference platform specific System.Data.SQLite

  I am using SQLite for the unit testing and might use it as a database for local development/staging. The System.Data.SQLite has basically 2 versions: x86 and x64. Correct one should be used for the specific platform. I have 64 bit Win7, other guys in the team might use 32-bit OSs. The server's platform is not known at this stage. If I use 32-bit version of the assembly on 64-bit platform I get BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SQLite'. I believe similar will happen trying to use 64-bit assembly on 32-bit platform. So my question is what is the best way to reference the SQLite assembly so that it does not depend on the platform and people can just use it? It is ok to use 32-bit version of assembly on a 64-bit platform (Maybe there is a switch for that somewhere?).

  I need a collection data-structure that can do the following: Be sorted Allow me to quickly pop values off the front and back of the list Remain sorted after I insert a new value Allow a user-specified comparison function, as I will be storing tuples and want to sort on a particular value Thread-safety is not required Optionally allow efficient haskey() lookups (I'm happy to maintain a separate hash-table for this though) My thoughts at this stage are that I need a priority queue and a hash table, although I don't know if I can quickly pop values off both ends of a priority queue. I'm interested in performance for a moderate number of items (I would estimate less than 200,000). Another possibility is simply maintaining an OrderedDictionary and doing an insertion sort it every-time I add more data to it. Furthermore, are there any particular implementations in Python. I would really like to avoid writing this code myself.

• What is the best way to get support from microsoft developers [closed]

  I have a problem at my production web, that I am not able to solve. I am not able to reproduce the problem in stage or development. It only appears when the website is under heavy load. I think it is solvable if somebody who has a very good understanding of the internals of FormsAuthentication would have a look at it by logging into our system. It should be at least Scottgu! Somebody told me that Microsoft Premier Support is a good choice for this kind of problems. We have no MSDN subscription or other connection to microsoft that enables us to use MPS. Is there a way to get support on a incident base? Are there other ways to get this kind of support? • Mandatory Parameters in Request object (WCF)

  lHi, I'm currently writing a WCF service. One of those methods get's a request object and returns a response object. In the request there are a couple of value-type members. Is there a way to define members are mandatory in the declarative way? I'm in an early stage of development and I don't want to start with versioning now. In addition I don't want to have method sig with 25 parameters, therefore I created the request object. The problem I have is that due to the value-types, I can never be sure if the consumer of the service intended to have the default value in there, or it was just by lazyness. On consumer side you don't easily detect that you probably missed that property. So I would like to have something that forces the caller of the service to provide an value, and if not he ideally get's a compile-time error. any ideas? tia, Martin

• How to store account-specific information in ASP.NET MVC 2

  I have an ASP.NET MVC 2 web application. There are two tables like "FIRST_KIND_OF_USERS" and "SECOND_KIND_OF_USERS". Both are mapped to the default aspnet_users table via UserId column. Each of them has it's own integer primary key column like "FirstKindOfUsersId". When a user is trying to add some data to the database, for instance, "Create a new Task" I would like to add a new row in Tasks table with "FirstKindOfUsersId" value. Where should I store or get this value? At the moment I have these possible solutions: Get "FirstKindOfUsersId" value by User.Identity.Name each time; Use SESSION[] for storing these values (Where and when should I save these ones?) Use FormsAuthenticationTicket and create own custom IIdentity class. (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1064271/asp-net-mvc-set-custom-iidentity-or-iprincipal) Which approach is better? And if I pick the 3rd one, how to save the necessary data property and at which stage?
