iMac and pc are connected with gigabit router to share files. What suggestions you might have to speed up the sharing of files from one computer to the other
I'm in a ssh connection and I would like to play a sound after a command completes (not on the server where I connected).
Something:
ssh [email protected]
make && play-sound-local
I have built-in pc-speaker disabled so echo -e "\a" doesn't work.
Any suggestions?
I need an alternative to Visio for making diagrams (particularly signal processing block diagrams) that includes some kind of custom stencils + connection points. I just spent 2 hrs learning bits and pieces of Dia only to find that it has no rotational capabilities, not even 90 degree rotations. Otherwise it's great.
Any suggestions?
Hi all,
A sharepoint administrator with 'Full Control' to the sharepoint site (not server administrator) is trying to edit a page and upload a graphic file to http://sharepoint.internal.com/sites/maths/ we are getting "upload failed check your folder permissions" but I can't find any folder called 'sites' on the server. Does anyone have any suggestions where I would change these permissions?
Thanks
So I'm a programmer and I run my own web development company. In the past I have been able to get away with just doing some simple number crunching at the end of each year to do my taxes, but my company has grown substantially over the last year, and now that I am sitting down to do my taxes it has become an absolute nightmare because none of my information is organized at all. I want to be abel to easily keep track of my monthly and yearly financial data for my company (I use a Mac), any suggestions?
I dont like skype for a zillion of reasons. But i'm "forced" to use it. Is there an alternative client out there for windows? Voice or video chat doesnt have to work, just the IM part would be sufficient.
Any suggestions?
thanks,
I am currently writing a paper about client and server authentication. I am looking for a word that means client AND server. Anyone have any suggestions?
I would like to "Pipe" the output of my local sound card to MPD on a networked music server.
Anyone have any suggestions how to go about this?
I'm thinking maybe i can make a live MP3 stream? maybe over the web, or over the intranet?
(IIRC MPD supported MP3 streams, i've had Internet radio steams going (though I didn't set them up)
I'm not very experienced with MPD, or with webcasts
I'm looking for a good, free ticket management software that could be accessible from everywhere. The company is small (10 people) and the first goal is to have a database and to follow important incidents, even if someone is out of office. I tried OTRS, very nice but I suppose a bit complicated for some of our developers.
Thanks for your suggestions.
EDIT: I forgot to write that the platform is Windows for all users.
Our master database is MySQL and is fed by a couple of applications where new contacts can be added, and I need to synchronise our Google Apps contacts list with that list.
Thanks for any suggestions.
My site's pages have exceeded the limit of pages for Google Custom Search so many of the results are not found in our site search.
I've been reading about Lucene, Nutch, Solr, etc and I'm wondering if I'd have the requirements for running those on a single server that also runs the site (on nginx) and our mysql server. We hae 2 gigs of RAM.
I'd appreciate any suggestions for migrating to a new site search.
Just recently I'm having problems with middle click. After a reboot, it works the first time I use it, but then it doesn't work after that.
As far as I've investigated, that's the same on Linux and Windows. The mouse is Reaper ZMS-1000.
To me it sounds like a hardware issue, but it's strange that it works after a reboot every time just for one time. Any suggestions?
I have installed Windows Home Server on an older Dell computer, and it uses a Broadcom 440x Ethernet NIC driver. I have tried all of the drivers listed on their drivers page to no luck.
The error message I get when trying to install is:
"The parameter is incorrect"
I know it is a long shot, but anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks!
I am looking for suggestions for video editing programs like iMovie, which are dead simple to use. We just need basic editing and titling features for making videos of our kids slightly more watchable. Nothing too fancy. The major requirement is that it needs to be extremely easy to use even without prior editor experience.
We're running Windows XP on some machines and Vista the rest.
Free is preferred however ease-of use trumps price.
Something is screwy with my itunes setup... I can play multiple songs after each other from the Music Library, but if I want to play several songs in a row from a playlist, it doesn't seem to work. It plays one and then stops. Any suggestions?
This is a crucial question to many:
Searching the web, I have found several command line tools that allow you to convert a HTML-document to a PDF-document, however they all seem to use their own, and rather incomplete rendering engine, resulting in poor quality
How can you print the rendered output of a modern web-browser to pdf, (and/or svg) whilst retaining as much vector graphics as possible?
There is a solution called: webkit-pdf (which renders everything to bitmap graphics)
I am looking for options, alternatives, suggestions perhaps even a printer-driver or webservices?
Thanks
I am very pleased with Outlook 2010 but since I can't use it anymore I have two big options : buy it or search for a decent cheaper/free replacement.
What I need from that programa/suite is :
POP/SMTP good management (I have Yahoo mail plus which uses SSL for SMTP and POP3 - not all clients support these)
Task management
RSS feed reading
Calendar / scheduling
This is for personal use.
Any suggestions?
Hi guys,
I have a TV tuner (Hauppage diversity), and I would like to be able to see live TV from Windows Media Player. I've searched the web, but havent found anything on how to make Windows Media Player to access a TV tuner.
The reason for using WMP rather than the Media Center is actually for work, because I am developping a video plugin for media player, and I'd like to test it using live TV footage. Any ideas/questions/suggestions more than welcome.
Thanks in advance
A

When I attempt to run Mercurial diff from within Textmate, I get an error "Couldn't find hg."
hg works from the command line and is in my path.
Any suggestions?
I'm gonna spec a new computer, used for running VMWare Worksation. The computer will be running a few virtual machines - A dev machine running VS-2010, a build machine, a version-control machine, a web server for testing, a "personal" machine running office etc.
Any suggestions? Processor, MB, disks etc?
(P.S. The only item I AM sure of is that the machine will be using a Xonar Essence Stx, connected to my NAND amplifier ;-)
Do you guys know any software that can reproduce the entire tree of directories under a certain directory to another disk and keep it update in real-time on Mac OS X?
A kind of mirror RAID, but instead of mirroring the whole disk I need to mirror just all directories inside one specific directory.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
I am looking for a web based and mobile replacement for google calendar, to track digital assets, inventory. Example would be selling spots on a newsletter, and having a sales team know what's available, and keep track of price.
Suggestions?
I've been using (and enjoy using) Windows 7 through bootcamp on my mac for some time now.
The only problem I've been having is with the audio, I seem to get a low hissing noise which is more prevalent when wearing headphones. Whilst it's not stopping me from using Windows 7 it's something I'd like fixed.
I've tried downloading the latest drivers from Realteks website, but to no avail.
Any suggestions?
I'm having trouble mounting a share on my XenServer (5.6 FP1). From the command line I try:
mount.cifs //server/share /mnt/share -o credentials=credfile
The contents of credfile is:
username=Administrator
password=What@zR\!p3s
When I run the above mount command I get "Access Denied". However if I run the following command it works:
mount.cifs //server/share /mnt/share -o username=Administrator,password=What@zR\!p3s
Please note the "\" is to escape the bang and I've tried this with and without it in the credentials file. Any suggestions?
