• Wrong IO actions order using putStr and getLine

  I have a code : main = do putStr "Test input : " content <- getLine putStrLn content And when I run it (with runhaskell) or compile it (ghc 6.10.4) result is like this: asd Test input : asd I'm new to haskell and in my opinion printing should be first. Am I right? In code sample on http://learnyouahaskell.com/ which used putStr then getLine presented output is different than mine (IMHO correct). When I use putStrLn program works as expected (print then prompt and print). Is it a bug in ghc, or it is the way that it should work?

• Grails 1.2.1 with Spring 3.0.0 dependency problem under Jetty

  Just moved to Grails 1.2.1 (used 1.1.1 before). Changed application.properties, ran grails upgrade, fixed BuildConfig and Bootstrap - everything works just fine from grails console. However, getting a problem when deploy packaged war under jetty 6.1.22: 1581 [main] ERROR org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoader - Context initialization failed org.springframework.beans.factory.access.BootstrapException: Error executing bootstraps; nested exception is java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.codehaus.groovy.grails.commons.spring.ReloadAwareAutowireCapableBeanFactory.setParameterNameDiscoverer(Lorg/springframework/core/ParameterNameDiscoverer;)V My project is built with maven2. I researched the war dependencies and see that both spring 2.5.6 and 3.0.0.RELEASE are used there. • Unit Testing in QTestLib - running single test / tests in class / all tests

  I'm just starting to use QTestLib. I have gone through the manual and tutorial. Although I understand how to create tests, I'm just not getting how to make those tests convenient to run. My unit test background is NUnit and MSTest. In those environments, it was trivial (using a GUI, at least) to alternate between running a single test, or all tests in a single test class, or all tests in the entire project, just by clicking the right button. All I'm seeing in QTestLib is either you use the QTEST_MAIN macro to run the tests in a single class, then compile and test each file separately; or use QTest::qExec() in main() to define which objects to test, and then manually change that and recompile when you want to add/remove test classes. I'm sure I'm missing something. I'd like to be able to easily: Run a single test method Run the tests in an entire class Run all tests Any of those would call the appropriate setup / teardown functions.

• speed up a sql query to mysql?

  in my mysql database i've got the geonames database, containing all countries, states and cities. i am using this to create a cascading menu so the user could select where he is from: country - state - county - city. but the main problem is that the query will search through all the 7 millions rows in that table each time i want to get the list of children rows, and that is taking a while 10-15 seconds. i wonder how i could speed this up: caching? table views? reorganizing table structure somehow? and most important, how do i do these things? are there good tutorials you could link to me? i appreciate all help and feedback discussing smart ways of handling this issue!

• Creating multiple log files of different content with log4j

  Is there a way to configure log4j so that it outputs different levels of logging to different appenders? I'm trying to set up multiple log files. The main log file would catch all INFO and above messages for all classes. (In development, it would catch all DEBUG and above messages, and TRACE for specific classes.) Then, I would like to have a separate log file. That log file would catch all DEBUG messages for a specific subset of classes, and ignore all messages for any other class. Is there a way to get what I'm after? Thanks, Dan

  Hi all, I wrote a program to solve a complicated problem. This program is just a c# console application and doesn't do console.write until the computation part is finished, so output won't affect the performance. I actually have a i7 intel cpu with 6G three channel DDR3 memory. I am wondering how I can improve the utilization of my hardware. Thanks a lot

• Sandbox solutions seem to be too severely crippled.

  I am learning SharePoint and the different kind of solutions you can deploy. From the training I am watching it seems like you should try your best to use a Sandbox Solution when ever possible. This is because Farm Solutions can mess things up too much. However, two of the main things I would do with WebParts are not supported in Sandbox Solutions. Those are Visual WebParts and WebPart communication. (The first is not allowed because it needs to hit the file system and the second is disallowed because it uses reflection). It seems to me that my WebParts will always want to do at least one of those things. (WebParts that don't communicate are not really that modular are they?) Am I missing the point or are Sandbox Solutions a "nice idea" that are not really used in actual code?

  Hi All; Due to Apple's recent T+C hijinks, I've become interested in developing for Android. Anyways, I'm trying to get a mixed-language Android 2.1 project going in Netbeans 6.8 (with the NBAndroid 0.10 plugin). The two languages being Java and Scala(2.8 head build). To give you a basic idea of what the app does right now, it's just a simple "Hello World" app. To get this to build, I've modified the projects's build.xml file: -- -injars ${scala-library}(!META-INF/MANIFEST.MF,!library.properties) -outjars "${build.classes.dir}/classes.min.jar" -libraryjars "${file.reference.android.jar}" -dontwarn -dontoptimize -dontobfuscate -keep public class * extends android.app.Activity -keep public class scala.xml.include.sax.Main** I've gotten the project so that it'll build, but it errors on startup in my Android Emulator(inside the emulator Android tells me my application has stopped unexpectedly). So my questions are: Does anyone see what I may be doing wrong? And is there any way to get access to the logs that the emulator must create? thanks Mike Kohout

  I've noticed that my GLSL shaders are not compilable when the GLSL version is lower than 130. What are the most critical elements for having a backward compatible shader source? I don't want to have a full backward compatibility, but I'd like to understand the main guidelines for having simple (forward compatible) shaders running on GPU with GLSL lower than 130. Of course the problem could be solved with the preprocessor #if __VERSION__ < 130 #define VERTEX_IN attribute #else #define VERTER_IN in #endif But there probably many issues that I ignore.   Hi, I am working on integrating affiliate sales into few existing sites. We are using a few merchants who work via different networks (cj, shareasale, linkshare, avantlink). Now my observation is that all these networks provide data feeds in different formats. But that's not a big problem. My main concern is actually merchants using different titles on same products. I don't want to run into these situations: a) two listings of the SAME product from N merchants (if titles are just a bit different) b) one listing of N different products from merchants (if we don't use strict comparison algorithm) We want to automate everything as much as possible, want to avoid operators scanning listings under question all the time. How is this problem typically handled?

• Opening popup links in UIWebView, possible?

  Hey guys, I have a UIWebView which I'm using as an embedded browser within my app. I've noticed that links in webpages that open new windows are ignored without any call into my code. I've tried breakpointing on - (BOOL)webView:(UIWebView *)webView shouldStartLoadWithRequest:(NSURLRequest *)request navigationType:(UIWebViewNavigationType)navigationType and then selecting a link that would open a popup window, and the breakpoint is never hit. Is there anything I can do to intercept that selection of the popup link and get the URL and just load it normally? I'm not interested in displaying a popup window in the app itself, I just want the URL of whatever is going to be loaded in the popup window to load in the main webview itself. Is this possible? Thanks!

• How can I stop my "headerSticky" and "content" divs from overlapping?

  I'm making a page that has three main components: a "headerSticky" header div, "sidenav" left navigation div, and "content" div. The side navigation is fixed and does not move; but the content div should be scrollable on its own. However, the top of the content div is always overlapped by the header div. Here is the CSS for the header: #headerSticky{ float:top; position:fixed; padding:6px; width: 100%;} and the content div: #content { padding-top: 100px; float:right; overflow: auto; height: 90%; width: 840px; padding: 0 20px 20px;} Any help would be appreciated. • XIB-instantiated Object's IBOutlet is nil

  I have a XIB set up like in this screenshot: File's owner is my main window controller. The XIB is also in charge of creating an object that serves as the delegate for the MGScopeBar view. As you can see in the screenshot, the scope bar delegate has an IBOutlet for the search field so that it can return it as an extra view as part of the delegate process. The problem I'm having is that when the delegate object is queried for the accessory view, the IBOutlet NSSearchField is nil. I'm fairly certain this has something to do with the order that objects are created, IBOutlets wired, etc, but I'm just a little lost as to where in the process I can expect the search field to exist so that the scope bar delegate can reference it properly. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

• What makes a bad programming language bad?

  We have all seen things like the typing system of JavaScript (There is a funny post including a truth table somewhere around here). I consider this one of the main things that makes a programming language bad. Other things that spring to mind: Bad Error messages (Either obfuscated so you can't figure out whats wrong, not existing or simply too long and red) The language wasn't planned and just grew uncontrolled in all directions (PHP?) The language encourages bad programm(er/ing) habits such as: Global variables everywhere, bad variable names Inconsistent naming conventions inside the language I can't come up with any more at the moment and would be very happy to read what you think about this. What shouldn't be missing in a language created to be as bad (from the perspectives of the programmer, the company that hires to programmer, the team leader and the customer) as possible? (I ask this because I'm designing a bad, experimental language at the moment)

• Using custom request and custom redirect with Contact Form 7

  I have several sites that I want to link back to the main site which hosts the contact form (using contact form 7). I would like to capture the request parameter "site-url" on incoming links to the contact form. Then when the user submits the form, I would like to redirect them back to the site specified in the site-url. Any ideas if this is possible with contact form 7? I would also like to add a special field in the contact form which would insert the site-url into the email that i get so that I know which site they were referred from.
