• Reading Character from Image

  I am working on an application which requires matching of numbers from a scanned image file to database entry and update the database with the match result. Say I have image- employee1.jpg. This image will have two two handwritten entries - Employee number and the amount to be paid to the employee. I have to read the employee number from the image and query the database for the that number, update the employee with the amount to be paid as got from the image. Both the employee number and amount to be paid are written inside two boxes at a specified place on the image. Is there any way to automate this. Basically I want a solution in .net using c#. I know this can be done using artificial neural networks. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

• .NET Setup Package Installer

  Hi, I have a .NET 3.5 Setup Package Project which installs my application successfully. The setup package deploys a number (around 70) custom files for use from within the application. From time to time I have the requirement of deleting some of these files, however upon restarting the executable, it automatically runs a portion of the Setup MSI again, and re-installs these files. The only way I can achieve my desired result at the moment is to delete the files after starting the executable. I have looked through the attributes on the files in the setup package such as Vital and PackageAs, however cannot seem to identify the required setting to achieve this. Does anybody have any idea what is needed to acheive this ? Much thanks

• facebook iframe application gives null GET/POST

  hey everybody, I came up to something really strange with a facebook iframe application. I don't know why but my global supervariables $_GET and $_POST are empty (nulls actually)! As far as i know, when using iframe for doing applications all the specific facebook variables are kept inside the $_GET variable. But for some reason now I don't have anything. I don't know what might be the problem. And as this wouldn't be enough, when i submit a form using POST as method, my $_POST variable is also null! What you guys think might be the problem? I've spent half a day trying to figure this out, but i didn't get any result.

  I'm following the Kevin Skoglund tutorial Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training, which was written for rails 3.0, though I am currently using 3.2. It uses the following method in the pages_controller with a before_filter to display only the pages which belong to the parent subject. The tutorial explicitly uses .find_by_id because if the result is nil it "will not return an error". However I get the "Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id" error when trying to view a page where @subject has been set to nil. def find_subject if params[:subject_id] @subject = Subject.find_by_id(params[:subject_id]) end end The actual code that is causing the error is: def list @pages = Page.order("pages.position ASC").where(:subject_id => @subject.id) end Is this something that has changed since 3.0? If so, what would be the correct way to implement this functionality in 3.2?

• c# Regex on XML string handler

  Hi guys. Trying to fiddle around with regex here, my first attempt. Im trying to extract some figures out of content from an XML tag. The content looks like this: www.blahblah.se/maps.aspx?isAlert=true&lat=51.958855252721&lon=-0.517657021473527 I need to extract the lat and long numerical vales out of each link. They will always be the same amount of characters, and the lon may or may not have a "-" sign. • Every 3rd Insert Is Slow On Ms Sql 2008

  I have a function that writes 3 lines into a empty table like so: INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (1, 8, 1) INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (2, 8, 4) INSERT [dbo].[yaf_ForumAccess] ([GroupID], [ForumID], [AccessMaskID]) VALUES (3, 8, 3) For some reason only the third query takes a long time to execute - and with each insert it grows longer. Profiler Image I have tried disabling all constraints on the table - same result. I just can't figure out why the first two would run so fast - and the last one would take so long. Any help would be greatly appreciated. • In Rails, how can a record belong_to a single user, but also have multiple "secondary" users?

  In my app, I have a User model and a Project model. A user has_many assignments and each project belongs_to a user. But along with each project having an owner, the user who created it, I would like the owner be able to share it with others (so that the project gets shown on the other users' account along with their own). I imagine having to use has_many :through, and setting up a projects_users table with a user_id and a project_id. And I guess this would be the end result? Project.first.user # The creator of the project => #<User id: 1, name: 'andrew', etc...> Project.first.users # The users that the creator chose to share it with => [#<User id: 2 ...>, #<User id: 3 ...>] How would I go about doing this?   I'm trying to use the jQuery get function to render the results of an HTML page in a div on my page. The result of the get function appears to be successful because the value of textStatus (in the following code block) is "success". • Detect aborted connection during ASIO request

  Is there an established way to determine whether the other end of a TCP connection is closed in the asio framework without sending any data? Using Boost.asio for a server process, if the client times out or otherwise disconnects before the server has responded to a request, the server doesn't find this out until it has finished the request and generated a response to send, when the send immediately generates a connection-aborted error. For some long-running requests, this can lead to clients canceling and retrying over and over, piling up many instances of the same request running in parallel, making them take even longer and "snowballing" into an avalanche that makes the server unusable. Essentially hitting F5 over and over is a denial-of-service attack. Unfortunately I can't start sending a response until the request is complete, so "streaming" the result out is not an option, I need to be able to check at key points during the request processing and stop that processing if the client has given up.

• iPad: CoreData FetchedRequest Ignores Changes in Predicate

  Hi there, While programming an iPad-app, I'm just running into trouble using a fetchedResultsController with a "dynamic" predicate. it seems the changes to the predicate get ignored. Why? I have to use run: Run run1 = new Run(); run1.Text = "First Paragraph"; run1.Text += "\n"; run1.Text += "Second Paragraph"; txtBlock1.Inlines.Add(run1); Then it produce the result correctly. Why I cannot add inline text to Textblock and require me to use Run?

• Is it possible to create ICriteria/ICriterion from LINQ or HQL?

Is there a way to avoid using Expression.Or() and create ICrietrion / ICriteria using LINQ or HQL?

• How can I prevent SerializeJSON from changing Yes/No/True/False strings to boolean?

  I have a data struct being stored in JSON format, converted using the serializeJSON function. The problem I am running into is that strings that can be boolean in CF such as Yes,No,True,and False are converted into JSON as boolean values. Below is example code.
