  • Using jQuery to rapidly scroll through a countdown

    I have a webpage that displays the number 0, and when the user presses "start", the number should rapidly increasing until it reaches a target number (maybe 10,000 or so) a few seconds later. I'd like the numbers to scroll by as if they're on a slot machine wheel. I've managed to mostly hack something together using the ScrollTo plugin, but it's slow and choppy. It always stops briefly at certain divs along the way. Perhaps I'm using it wrong. Is there a better way to accomplish such an effect?

  • jQuery AJAX requests with Rails 3

    I'm trying to do a manual jQuery AJAX request the following way: $("#user_plan_id").change(function() { $("#plan_container").load('/plans/' + this.value); }); I have the "rails.js" file included in my header, and a "<%= csrf_meta_tag %". I see from my log that the request IS getting to the server (although without the authenticity token... does rails.js even do this?), but the response is a 302 (Found) rather than 200, and no data actually gets rendered. Any ideas?

It doesn't seem terrible hard to do this on my own but I was curious (and lazy) to see if someone had already done it with either Spring or JAX-RS.

  • Embedded Windows Media Player background image

    Hi all, I'm loading an external video stream in my embedded player. Since it takes a little while to connect and preload you see a black background for +- 7 secs untill video plays . I would like to know if its possible to have a background image saying 'Stand by loading video' with my logo on it before the video starts to play. Only thing i could find was bgcolor parameter but that's not what I want. I hope someone can help me thanks!!

    I have a list of itens and they are holding images, each image is 800w x 600 H. The original div height is 800 W x 300 H, I figured out how to expand the div when it is clicked, but i want to know how to collapse it when you click it while it is already expanded. right now it just expands the div even farther $('.expand').bind('click', function() { var currHeight = $(this).css('height').replace(/px/,''); currHeight = currHeight * 1; var newHeight = currHeight + 500; $(this).animate({ height: newHeight },1000); }); any idea on how to create an if else statement that would say, IF the div is already expanded then collapse on click, or if the div is not expanded, expand to # of px.

  • How can I alter an external variable from inside my AJAX?

    I keep on having these same two problems. I have been trying to use Remy Sharp's wonderful tagSuggest plugin, and it works great. Until I try to use an AJAX call to get tags from my database. My setGlobalTags() works great, with my defined myTagList at the top of the function. What I want to do is set myTagList equal to the result from my AJAX. My problem is that I can neither call setGlobalTags() from inside my success or error functions, nor actually alter the original myTagList. Also, I keep on having this other issue as well. I keep this code in my Master page, and my AJAX returns 'success' on almost every page. I only (and always) get the error alert when I navigate to a page that actually contains something of id="ParentTags". I don't see why this is happening, because my $('#ParentTags').tagSuggest(); is definitely after my AJAX call. I realize that this is probably just some dumb conventions error, but I am new to this and I'm here to learn from you guys.   • IE7 is making my life miserable! Getting gaps between html table columns (w/ colspan) with css togg

    Copy/paste this html code snippet and try it out in IE7. When you toggle the hidden columns it leaves a gap between the columns. In Firefox it works fine, the columns touch when minimized. Haven't tried IE8 yet, would be curious to hear how it works there. Any ideas? I've tried a bunch of things in the CSS like table-layout:fixed but no luck. Note: Not looking for a different toggling method because the table I'm really dealing with is 50+ columns wide and 4000+ rows so looping/jquery techniques are too slow.   • how to prevent checkbox check when clicking on link inside label

    Hello, I have a link inside a label. The problem is, when user clicks 'back' after having read the terms, the checkbox is unchecked, because when they clicked on the link they also unchecked the box at the same time, since the link is inside a label. <input type="checkbox" id="terms" name="terms" checked="checked" /> <label for="terms">I agree to be bound by the <a href="/terms">Terms</a></label> How can I prevent the checkbox from being checked when link is clicked? Tried doing event.preventDefault() on label click, but that doesn't prevent checkbox from being checked/unchecked. I could just take out the link from inside a label (which means more CSS styling). But now I'm curious whether the above is possible.

  • jQuery: Preventing list scroll?

    I have this scenario: Using an ajax query I fetch some data items and push them into a ul element as an li element. I use $("ulele").append(new_li_item). I wrote my own custom scroll for this ul element using the following whenever an event is detected: $("ulele").animate({scrollTop: '+=' + 200}, 'slow'); The problem is when I fire that event and the list scrolls due to the animate function above, I want to keep it stable for at least a few seconds. When it scrolls down, elements are still being pushed so the list keeps scrolling no matter what. Is there a way I can pause this from happening without really stopping the activity of pushing elements into the ul list?

    I'm trying to render data from an AJAX response as a bar chart with jqplot. To render this bar chart I use two variables: s1 which contains the numbers ex: s1 = [22,67,32,89] ticks which contains the name corresponding to a number inside s1 ex: ticks = ["Jack", "Mary", "Paul", "John"] So my AJAX returns two variables, data1 and data2.   • How to make Web Storage persistent in Cordova using JS?

    I have a small quiz app, which is a cross-platform mobile app, that I plan for it to run on Android, iOS, and WP8. I want to store a local highscore, where it will keep track how many points the user had, and if he/she does better than the already stored highscore, update the current highscore. Though, I want the highscore to be persistent, what I mean is, every time the user opens the app I want the last highscore to be present and it to be compared with the new quiz score. Meaning, I don't want the highscore to be deleted after each time the app is closed. I also want for the first time when the app is ran, the highscore to be set to 0, so obviously the first time the user finishes the quiz gets a new highscore. I have those codes so far: scoredb.js // Wait for device API libraries to load document.addEventListener("deviceready", initScoreDB, false); // Device APIs are available function initScoreDB() { window.localStorage.setItem("score", 0); highscore = window.localStorage.getItem("score"); } main.js var correct = 0; var highscore; // In between I have some code that keeps incrementing // correct variable for each correct answer. if (correct > highscore) { window.localStorage.setItem("score", correct); highscore = correct; } It does seem to work okay once the app is started. I did the quiz three times, in the simulator, and it keeps the score as it should. Though, each time I open the app, highscore is reseted to 0. I guess it is due to the fact that I call initScoreDB when the device is ready, and I initialize the score to 0 there and give that value to highscore. Can someone help me to initialize the score to 0 only when the app is ran for the first time, and all the other times to keep the latest highscore as the current highscore and compare it each time with the score that is achieved when the quiz is finished. If someone can help me, I would be glad.

    Hi, Does anyone know a workaround for the bug https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/RF-8076 ? Just to clarify things, we have a form with multiple inputs, one of them being a combobox with auto complete features. We've setup a hotkey via <rich:hotKey key="return" ... /> It works great everywhere except in the combobox, and I would really like to get it working on the combobox as well. The behaviour I want when the ENTER key is pressed inside the combobox is: If the combobox context was modified by auto complete then do nothing Else action the event on ENTER key pressed We're running on seam/richfaces. I'm open to any workaround, but simplicity is much sought for. Thanks!

    Hi, im quite new to HTML, and am trying to create a proffessional looking TreeView. I can not use the in built treeview in ASP.Net as i need to point the target of the selection to another frame (I have tried, and this doesn't seem possible). My treeview is built up as follows: Folder1 ChildOne ChildTwo ChildThree Folder2 ChildOne ChildTwo ChildThree I have the collapsing of the folders working, but would like to know how to format this treeview so it has dotted lines down to the child nodes (as most treeviews tend to have). I'm doing this through an html file containing ` div { color:blue; } span { color:red; } var x; $.get("return.php", function(data){ x = data; }) function showAlert() {alert(x);} $(document).ready(function(){ alert(x); }); ` When the button is clicked it retrieves and displays the code fine, but on the page loading, it displays "undefined" instead of the data in return.php.   • IE6 https security message appearing after closing jQuery colorbox overlay

    I am working on a secure site, https. I am using the colorbox jquery plugin to iframe another page from the same site over the current content. In IE6 when i close the colorbox overlay i get the following message: "This page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to display the nonsecure items?" Any ideas why this is happening? Can it be prevented? Assume i would have to make the whole site http rather than https but this is not possible as we have online payments.
