  • Match returning a string instead of object

    - by Pablo
    This simple regex matching returns a string instead of an object on every browser but the latest firefox... text = "language. Filename: My Old School Yard.avi. File description: File size: 701.54 MB. View on Megavideo. Enter this, here:" name = text.match(/(Filename:)(.*) File /); alert(typeof(name)); as far as i know this the match function is suppose to return an object (Array). Has anyone come across this issue?

    - by Shady
    I have one website here that contains videos to see, like youtube, and the videos are divided in pages, and in the source of this page I got this part of the source: <input type="hidden" value="12" id="vid_count"> <input type="hidden" value="422" id="vid_max"> <input type="hidden" value="12" id="vids_per_page"> The site contains 422 videos with 36 pages, 12 videos per page I need to show all videos in only one page... • jQuery ready function

    - by Darren Tarrant
    Can anyone tell me why the document ready function needs a call to function first please? I've been told that the setTimeout in the first below example (which does not work) would be evaluated and passed to ready, but I don't see what the difference would be for the function call in the second example (which works)? $(document).ready( setTimeout( function(){ $('#set_3').innerfade({ animationtype: 'fade', speed: 'slow', timeout: 3000, type: 'sequence', containerheight: '180' }); }, 2000); ); $(document).ready( function(){ setTimeout( function(){ $('#set_3').innerfade({ animationtype: 'fade', speed: 'slow', timeout: 3000, type: 'sequence', containerheight: '180' }); }, 2000); } );

  • XMLHttpRequest error in IE, works without issue in Chrome/FF

    - by culov
    function addRequest(req) { try { request = new XMLHttpRequest(); } catch (e) { try{ request = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); }catch(e){ try { request = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHttp"); } catch (e) { alert("XMLHttpRequest error: " + e); } } } request.open("GET", req, true); request.send(null); return request; } As you can see, it IE apparently fails all 3 ways in which I try to make the request. I've been doing plenty of searches to try and find what may be the issue, but by all accounts ive read, the code ive posted above should work. i havent used jquery for AJAX, but ive seen it recommended when others have had issues with httprequest objects. could i just replace the mess above with a couple lines of jquery and assume that it will take care of IE's ugliness? Thanks!

  • In what order does DOJO handles ajax requests?

    - by mm2887
    Hi, Using a form in a dialog box I am using Dojo in jsp to save the form in my database. After that request is completed using dojo.xhrPost() I am sending in another request to update a dropdown box that should include the added form object that was just saved, but for some reason the request to update the dropdown is executed before saving the form in the database even though the form save is called first. Using Firebug I can see that the getLocations() request is completed before the sendForm() request. This is the code: Add Team sendForm("ajaxResult1", "addTeamForm"); dijit.byId("addTeamDialog").hide(); getLocations("locationsTeam"); </script> function sendForm(target, form){ var targetNode = dojo.byId(target); var xhrArgs = { form: form, url: "ajax", handleAs: "text", load: function(data) { targetNode.innerHTML = data; }, error: function(error) { targetNode.innerHTML = "An unexpected error occurred: " + error; } } //Call the asynchronous xhrGet var deferred = dojo.xhrPost(xhrArgs); } function getLocations(id) { var targetNode = dojo.byId(id); var xhrArgs = { url: "ajax", handleAs: "text", content: { location: "yes" }, load: function(data) { targetNode.innerHTML = data; }, error: function(error) { targetNode.innerHTML = "An unexpected error occurred: " + error; } } //Call the asynchronous xhrGet var deferred = dojo.xhrGet(xhrArgs); } Why is this happening? Is there way to make the first request complete first before the second executes? To reduce the possibilities of why this is happening I tried setting the cache property in xhrGet to false but the result is still the same. Please help!

  • JS Object this.method() breaks via jQuery

    - by Peter Boughton
    I'm sure there's a simple answer to this, but it's Friday afternoon and I'm tired. :( Not sure how to explain it, so I'll just go ahead and post example code... Here is a simple object: var Bob = { Stuff : '' , init : function() { this.Stuff = arguments[0] } , doSomething : function() { console.log( this.Stuff ); } } And here it is being used: $j = jQuery.noConflict(); $j(document).ready( init ); function init() { Bob.init('hello'); Bob.doSomething(); $j('#MyButton').click( Bob.doSomething ); } Everything works, except for the last line. When jQuery calls the doSomething method it is overriding 'this' and stopping it from working. Trying to use just Stuff doesn't work either. So how do I refer to an object's own properties in a way that allows jQuery to call it, and also allows the object to work with the calling jQuery object? i.e. I would like to be able to do things like this: doSomething : function() { console.log( <CurrentObject>.Stuff + $j(<CallerElement>).attr('id') ); } (Where <CurrentObject> and <CallerElement> are replaced with appropriate names.)

  • Tabs for a ASP.NET website

    - by user102533
    I would like to add tabs for my website and I understand I can use the tab control in the AJAX toolkit or I can choose to go with JQuery UI tabs. Each tab would need to load a separate asp.net page and I need to customize the tabs to look slick. Any thoughts on what approach I can use?

  • Java applet for Tower of Hanoi

    - by Naren
    I am planning to write a Java applet for Tower of Hanoi similar to link( http://www.mazeworks.com/hanoi/index.htm ) Can you suggest how should I start and proceed. And, btw, does it require multi threading? And also, major part of my doubt is to make a disc being clickable and being able to drag and drop the disc on a tower. detect a tower (if a disc is being dragged using mouse)

  • excanvas throws me errors in IE

    - by oshafran
    Hi I am using excanvas.js that is used with flot jquery graphs. When in FF or chrome the graphs show great. on IE I get this error: Unknown runtime error excanvas.min.js, line 144 character 21 el.getContext = getContext; // Remove fallback content. There is no way to hide text nodes so we // just remove all childNodes. We could hide all elements and remove // text nodes but who really cares about the fallback content. el.innerHTML = ''; el in the stack is DispHTMLUnknownElement What can that be? Thank you?

  • Nested asynchronous calls do not seem to execute as expected

    - by Kristof Van Landschoot
    While trying out jQuery, I have a question that is probably a newbie mistake, but I cannot seem to find the solution. This is the code: $.get("index.html", function() { var i = 0; for (; i < 3; i++) { var lDiv = document.createElement('div'); lDiv.id = 'body-' + i; document.getElementById('body').appendChild(lDiv); $.get('index.html', function(data) { lDiv.innerHTML = "<p>Hello World " + i + "</p>"; }); } }); The output seems to be <div id='body-0'></div> <div id='body-1'></div> <div id='body-2'> <p>Hello World 3</p> </div> I expected the lDiv.innerHTML= code to be executed for each i, but apparently it is only executed for the last i? What am I overlooking?

  • How to handle empty return from getJSON

    - by Gee
    Alright so I have a php script which gets results from a DB, and to get those results I'm using a jQuery script to pull the results via getJSON. It works perfectly but now I want to do something if the php script returns no results (empty). I tried: $.getJSON('path/to/script'), {parameter:parameter}, function(data){ if (data) { alert('Result'); } else { alert('Empty); } }); But it's no good. I've tried different things like if (data.length) but still nothing. I've noticed that if there is no returned data the callback will never fire at all. So if that's the case, how do I handle a empty return?

  • jQuery: list appended not displaying bullets

    - by Shizhidi
    I have the following html: <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script> </head> <body> <span>not so important</span> <span title="some specific text"><img src="/img/some.gif" /></span> <span title="more specific text">important 1</span> <span title="more specific text">important 2</span> <span title="more specific text">important 3</span> <span title="more specific text"><img src="/img/some.gif" /></span> <ul> <li>example 1</li> <li>example 2</li> <li>example 3</li> <ul> <script> var ul = $('body').append($('<ul>')); $("span[title*='specific text']") .contents() .filter(function(){ return $(this).nodeType != 1; }) .each(function(){ ul.append($('<li>' + $(this).text() + '</li>')); }) </script> </body> </html> I want to retrieve the text within a 'span' whose title attribute contains "specific text", in this case "important 1", "important 2" and "important 3". Then I want to list them below just like the example. However the bullets do not appear, why is that? Any hints would be appreciated!

  • Finding the last focused element

    - by Joshua Cody
    I'm looking to determine which element had the last focus in a series of inputs, that are added dynamically by the user. This code can only get the inputs that are available on page load: $('input.item').focus(function(){ $(this).siblings('ul').slideDown(); }); And this code sees all elements that have ever had focus: $('input.item').live('focus', function(){ $(this).siblings('ul').slideDown(); }); The HTML structure is this: <ul> <li><input class="item" name="goals[]"> <ul> <li>long list here</li> <li>long list here</li> <li>long list here</li> </ul></li> </ul> <a href="#" id="add">Add another</a> On page load, a single input loads. Then with each add another, a new copy of the top unordered list's contents are made and appended, and the new input gets focus. When each gets focus, I'd like to show the list beneath it. But I don't seem to be able to "watch for the most recently focused element, which exists now or in the future." To clarify: I'm not looking for the last occurrence of an element in the DOM tree. I'm looking to find the element that currently has focus, even if said element is not present upon original page load. So in the above image, if I were to focus on the second element, the list of words should appear under the second element. My focus is currently on the last element, so the words are displayed there. Do I have some sort of fundamental assumption wrong?

  • Browser freeze while ajax call in action

    - by kaivalya
    I have a ASP.NET Web App. I notice that while a simple ajax call(see below) is in process, web application does not respond to any action that I try on a different browser. $.ajax({ type: "GET", async: true, url: "someurl", dataType: "text", cache: false, success: function(msg){ CheckResponse(msg); } }); This happens when I open two firefox or two IE. I run the function that does the ajax call on first browser and till the response of the ajax is returned, I cannot do anything on the second browser on the same site. No breakpoints are hit on the server from the second browser till initial ajax is completed. It hangs for any click etc.. The hang on the second browser ends immediately after the ajax call is completed on the first one. This behavior is not observed if I try the same on IE and Firefox side by side. Only happen with IE & IE or FF & FF side by side Appreciate if you can help me see what I am missing here.
