• Does the Lenovo t60p vga port support an s-video signal?

  I just bought a new television. The problem is it turns out it doesn't have a VGA port. It does have: s-video, component, hdmi and scart. My Lenovo t60p only has vga. If have search frantically for a solution and even though it seems I have sooo many options they are all dead ends. Or I keep ending up having to buy a 100 euro box to convert the signal. However, I found that some video cards support s-video through the vga port. It says look it up in your video cards documentation. I have a Lenovo t60p laptop with a ATI MOBILITY FireGl v5250. But I can't seem to get my hands on any documentation where this is supposed to be documented. I found this website: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=179529&highlight=s-video There this guy says he thinks it's in the t60 but dropped in the t61, but suggests to the guy with the t60 that it won't work. I can't really conclude anything from that. Furthermore, I am not looking for the best of the best quality. Except that I don't think I can order it because I don't live in the US. Can anybody give me a definite answer, to whether the vga port of my lenovo t60p ati firegl v5250 supports s-video? So that I can just by a vga to s-video cable to achieve my goal.

• Fusion 2 - blank screen - no start button

  I have Fusion 2 on my MacBook. It was working fine until this morning. Logged on and it took too long to log my personal settings to load. I shut it down. Shut down the MacBook and restarted. Logged onto Fusion and now I only get the windows screen with no icons or Start Button. I don't want to uninstall in fear of loosing all of my work including Quickbooks! Anyone have a solution?

  when comparing two integers in bash, do we have to put double quotes ? In the official document http://tldp.org/LDP/abs/html/comparison-ops.html I can read that double quotes should appear every time... But what is the differences in the following examples: [ "$VAR" -eq "1" ] [ $VAR -eq "1" ] [ "$VAR" -eq 1 ] [ $VAR -eq 1 ] As I am curious, a took a look at Ubuntu init scripts in /etc/init.d and there are many usage of arithmetic comparison in it, at least [ "$VAR" -eq "1" ] and [ $VAR -eq 1 ] are used... but it seems no one really "knows" what is the official way to do it. • BootMgr is missing, usual fixes don't work

  I know this question has been asked before but I've tried all the usual fixes and nothing works. Basically the hard drive had two partitions with Vista and Windows 7. I've deleted the Vista partition to make more room and expanded the Windows 7 partition to fill the drive (using GParted). I've tried: Running Startup Repair - it doesn't find any problems. Setting partition to Active - worked. bootsect /nt60 c: - worked. BootRec /FixMbr - worked. BootRec /FixBoot - worked. BootRec /ScanOs - I get the message "Total identified Windows installations: 0" BootRec /RebuildBcd - I get the message "Total identified Windows installations: 0" BcdEdit shows a Windows Boot Manager and a Windows Boot Loader, both on C: partition. What else can I try?

• passing on command line options in bash

  I have a question. I have a script, a kind of long script written in bash aprox. 370 lines. That has several functions and in those functions the user has to enter information which is then stored in files. ( This is suppose to represent a MySQL database, with the functions INSERT, UPDATE, SELECT, SELECT where x=y.) I created this myself in bash, now the only thing that rests me is that I need to be able to pass arguments on the command line to the script, that will do the same as the script does. I know that bash has positional parameters such as $1 $2 $3 $* $@ $0 ( refers to the name of the script) etc. I know how I can use these parameters in a simple if function. This is not enough for my script. I basicly need to do the same thing that the script does, but then from the command line. I have been struggling with this for a couple of days now and I cannot think of a way to get it to work. Maybe someone here can help me with this? If you want to have the script. • Laptop hardware recommendations for multi-platform development

  I am thinking of buying a laptop with the following configuration - Intel core 2 duo(or I3-330M)/ 4GB RAM/300+ GB 7200 RPM. I would like to be able to run two server VMs on this laptop with Win2K8 and Ubuntu (preferably 64 bit editions). Windows 7 will be the Host OS since that is the one that ships with the laptop. I am thinking of using VMWare player to run the two server OSs. Is this laptop good enough to run the two VMs side by side or do I need to go for a better configuration? Any suggestions? Thanks.

• How to edit screen grabbed video on Windows XP?

  Problem I've used CamStudio to record a presentation (fullscreen, 1280x1024, 45 min, no audio) to a small number of AVI files (10 files with about 800 MB total). Now I want to remove the initial and trailer sequences where you see start and stop of CamStudio. I'd like to remove some pauses during the video, too. Question Could you recommend some programs for Windows XP that I can use for this task? The result should be a (small - at least not bigger than the original) video format that I can play back. I've no need to create a DVD etc. Already tried I already tried MAGIX Video Deluxe 16 (Trial Version), but it takes about 2 hours to just export 10 minutes of the video and produces about 2 GB of data for this.

• Remote Desktop with resource sharing

  I recently removed ubuntu from my laptop and installed Windows 7 because Microsoft's DreamSpark program gave me Visual Studio Pro for free and I want to do some C# programming with it. The problem is that my laptop's screen is small, it's resources are extremely limited, and it doesn't have a full sized keyboard. However, I do have a desktop that is my primary system, and it's got a quadcore and tons of RAM in it, and dual monitors. My question is this, is there a way I can use a program from my laptop, on my desktop, and share my desktops CPU and RAM with the laptop? Everything is connected through a 100 MB/s switch. One caveat, my desktop is running ubuntu.

• Why can't I wrap text around grouped images in Word?

  When I paste two images into Microsoft Word and I set Wrap Text To Square: and then group them so they stick nicely together, I can no longer Wrap Text around this newly grouped image. Any explanation why text wrapping is disabled for grouped images? Note: if I don't change the Wrap Text option, I can't group them. This is for Word 2010 on Windows 7, but I've had this problem with every version of Word.

• Preprocessing incoming mail with fetchmail/procmail/mutt

  I use fetchmail-procmail-mutt programms to all my mail. Some of mail generated automatically and some people not smart enough, so I would like to reformat mail body with some script. My best guess is that I should do it with procmail. But I found no such rule, best thing I found is possibility to pipe mail to programm. Of course, I can resend it with flag that no futher formatting needed, but it does not look like right solution. EDIT: Just discovered maildrop. Maybe, it is simpler to do my task with it?

  Hi, I need a Windows (XP/7) utility to continuously monitor always-running processes and kill them (and optionally restart them) if they hang. There are a lot of interactive tools out there (Sysinternals, most notably). But I have a program on a little-used workstation that needs to run continuously and reliably, both of which are not two of its strong suits :) It requires continual babysitting, and I'd rather just have a monitoring utility (even a paid one) that can kill/restart it on definable conditions -- e.g. CPU 80%, Status of "Not Responding", etc.

• After installing Windows Phone 8 SDK, Connectify doesn't work

  Today I installed Windows Phone 8 SDK from the official site. After installing and a couple of restarts (it restarted the PC to enable Hyper-V), I opened Connectify. I use Connectify Hotspot to connect my iPod to the internet as I have an ethernet connection and no wireless router. The problem is that now, Connectify doesn't show WiFi in Share Over. The attached screenshot shows this. Previously, before I installed the SDK, it would show Ethernet and Wi-Fi. I would select WiFi and share my internet. Now, this is completely screwed. EDIT: I found out that the Microsoft Virtual Wi-Fi Miniport Driver has got disabled and I am not able to enable it again. Please advise. • install Win7 SP1 with bcdedit failing

  I'm getting the error 0x800F0A12 which is described here. bcdedit says: C:\>bcdedit.exe Der Speicher für die Startkonfigurationsdaten konnte nicht geöffnet werden. Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden. (English: Couldn't open the start configuration. Couldn't find the file.) (off topic: how can I get those messages in English?) I played around and I assume that is because the system partition C:\ is not on the first BIOS disk. There are 4 disks in my PC. On one of them (shown as the 4th in Windows drive manager) contains Windows, whereby the system-reserved NTFS partition is the first primary and the second primary is my main Windows system partition. A few more partitions follow with other (non-NTFS) stuff. I was able to set the first two disks offline (via the Windows drive manager). For the 3rd disk, it says that it cannot set the BIOS 0 disk offline. How can I ignore that and still install SP1? I don't want to rewire/resetup my disks.

If I were to have a series of functions that referenced a different column in a worksheet but all ended on the same row of data is there a way to point the 'row' part of a cell reference to a blank cell and use it has a variable to show the results of the functions up to a desired row simultaneously?   I have difficulty open opening word and excel files suddenly. Only particular office file give me the problem. These files were previously scanned by combo fix and I believe they were damaged. The error response that I from office is Excel cannot open the file xxx.xlsx because the file format is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file. This is for excel and a similar kind of error response comes for word. The file looks fine. I mean the size vise... Please help me with this problem. I really appreciate your help and time....

• Routers with decent parental monitoring / traffic logging?

Most logging functionality I've seen is terrible - reporting only IP addresses, not rolling up reports or reporting any useful statistics. The logs are also often limited to merely the last few minutes/hours when handling high-traffic loads. Bonus points for providing a screenshot of the log reporting interface!

• Stable MSN messenger for mac?

  I use Adium in my mac as a client for MSN messenger. (I have also tried the "official" live messenger for mac for a while but it had even worse issues than what I am experiencing with Adium). Everything works fine for the first 5-10 minutes, perhaps until the first automatic "away", then suddenly any message I send is followed by a dozen or so messages saying: "Message could not be sent because a connection error occurred:" and Message may have not been sent because a timeout occurred: If I send a few messages, they usually eventually arrive (all at once) after a long delay. Windows machines on the same network running live messenger work fine. Any ideas why this might be, or suggestions for a client that might work when both Adium and Microsofts own messenger for mac seem to disconnect?

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required: linux-headers-2.6.24-24-generic libdns35 linux-headers-2.6.24-24 Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. • Is there a mousegestures add-on for Google Chrome?

  With the release of chrome 3.0 I am again considering switching to chrome as my default browser. The only thing stopping me, and it has been stopping me since chrome 1 came out, is the lack of the mousegestures add-on that i have in firefox. Mouse Gestures have become so routine for me that I simply can't use another browser that doesn't have them. There are ways to kinda emulate mouse gestures using 3rd party programs like gmote but they are not the same and not quite as good. I know that chrome developer has add-ins but I havent been able to find a mouse-gestures one. I'm fairly confident that many people want one. So, does a mousegestures add-on exist for chrome? bonus points if there is a firebug/xmarks add-in as well! thanks.
