• Google Analytics

  My first post.  Working with Google Analytics (GA).  What an incredible tool this is for those that are wanting to know about their site traffic.  GA allows the user to drill down to the screen size of any mobile sources that came in contact with his site.  The user is even able to know region demographics of visitors and the types of browsers and languages being used.  This is a great tool to help determine your target audience and what direction of growth one may be needing to take.GA has Real-Time currently in beta but it already allows the user to see some information.  I can already detect that I am viewing my site from Louisville, KY and what page of my site is being accessed.  I highly recommend using GA for the sheer plethora of data available.

  To protect the privacy when I surf over the internet, I use AdBlockPlus add-in for Firefox. But when I use Internet Explorer 9, this add-in don’t work. Internet Explorer 9 (and I hope Internet Explorer 10) has built in feature to add a TPL. There is a javascript function to call named msAddTrackingProtectionList. This function has two parameter: the first one is the link of TPL and the second one is the Title of TPL. To do this is very easy.   First you need to implement the simple bpel process like this : In my current project, I inherited a lot of OSB components that have been developed by (former) team members, but they all lack unit tests. This is a situation I really dislike, since this makes it much harder to refactor or bug-fix the existing code base. So, for all newly created components (and components I have to bug-fix) I strive to add unit tests. Of course, the unit tests will be created using my favourite testing tool: soapUI ! Unit of test The unit test should be created for the service composition, which in OSB terms should be the proxy service combination with its business service. Now, since you do not want to rely on any other services, you should provide mock services for all services invoked from your Component-Under-Test. In a previous article, I wrote about mocking your services in soapUI. While this approach would also be valid here, creating a mock service (and certainly deploying it on a separate WebServer) does violate one of the core principles of unit testing: to make your unit tests as self-contained as possible, i.e. not depending on any external components. In this article, I will show you how to achieve this by simply providing a mock response inside your unit test. Scenario The scenario I implement for testing is a simple currency converter; the external request consists of a from and a to currency, and an amount (in currency from). The service will perform an exchange rate lookup using the WebServiceX CurrencyConverter and return a response to the caller consisting of both the source and target currencies and amounts. • Challenges in Corporate Reporting - New Independent Research

  Earlier this year, Oracle and Accenture sponsored a global study on trends in financial close and reporting. We surveyed 1,123 finance professionals in large organizations in 12 countries around the world during February and March. Financial Consolidation and Reporting is the most mature aspect of Enterprise Performance Management with mainstream solutions having been around for over 30 years. But of course over this time there have been many changes and very significant increases in regulation. So just what is the current state is Financial Consolidation and Reporting in our major corporations across the world? We commissioned this independent research to find out. Highlights of the result are: •          Seeking change: Businesses recognize they need to invest in financial reporting to address the challenges they currently face. 47 percent of companies have made substantial investments over the last year to the financial close, filing, and reporting processes. •          Ineffective investments: Despite these investments, spreadsheets (72 percent) and e-mails (68 percent) are still being used daily to track and manage reporting, suggesting that new investments are falling short of expectations. •          Increased costs and uncertainty: The situation is so opaque that managers across the finance function are unable to fully understand the financial impact or cost implications of reporting, with 60 percent of respondents admitting they did not know the total cost of managing and publicizing their financial results. •          Persistent challenges: 68 percent of respondents admitted that they have inadequate visibility into reporting processes, while 84 percent of finance managers surveyed said they find it difficult to control the quality of financial data across the entire reporting process. •          Decreased effectiveness: 71 percent of finance managers feel their effectiveness is limited in some way by data-analysis–related issues, while 39 percent of C-level or VP-level respondents say their effectiveness is impaired by limited visibility. •          Missed deadlines: Due to late changes to the chart of accounts, 15 percent of global businesses have missed statutory filings, putting their companies at risk of financial penalties and potentially impacting share value. The report makes it clear that investments made to date by these large organizations around the world have been uneven across the close, reporting, and filing processes, which has led to the challenges these organizations currently face in the overall process. Regardless of whether companies are using a variety of solutions or a single solution, the report shows they continue to witness increased costs, ineffectual data management, and missed reporting, which—in extreme circumstances—can impact a company’s corporate image and share value. The good news is that businesses realize that these problems persist and 86 percent of companies are likely to make a significant investment during the next five years to address these issues. While they should invest, it is critical that they direct investments correctly to address the key issues this research identified: •          Improving data integrity •          Optimizing processes •          Integrating the extended financial close process By addressing these issues and with clear guidance on how to implement the correct business processes, infrastructure, and software solutions, finance teams will find that their reporting processes are much more effective, cost-efficient, and aligned with their performance expectations. • Setting Up and Running Summary Advisor on an Exalytics Machine (Oracle-by-Example)

  If you are running Oracle BI on an Exalytics machine, you can use Summary Advisor to identify the aggregates that will increase query performance. Summary Advisor intelligently recommends an optimal list of aggregate tables based on query patterns that will achieve maximum query performance gain while meeting specific resource constraints. Summary Advisor then generates an aggregate creation script that can be run to create the recommended aggregate tables. Aggregate tables reduce query times by storing precomputed results for queries that include rolled-up data. This tutorial covers steps to set up, configure, and run Summary Advisor on an Exalytics machine using TimesTen database as a target for storing aggregates. You can find the Oracle By Example (OBE) in the Oracle Learning Library (OLL). The content in OLL is available to all customers, partners, and employees.

• Two Sessions All Humans Should Watch Right Now

  At conferences, I definitely prefer technical sessions over any other kind of session. That's partly because I want to walk away from a conference with new libraries and APIs to play with, such as the AT&T ARO tool that I've been blogging about over the past few days thanks to being introduced to it in a great session by Doug Sillars at Oredev, in Malmo, Sweden. I only say the above to set the scene. And the scene is that I avoid sessions that deal with "agile topics" or whatever that means. I mean those sessions where you're meant to reflect on some way you're developing nothing in particular and then come away with new ways of doing that. I avoid those. Not because I don't necessarily like those or think I have nothing to learn, both of which I don't (or do, depending on how you read double negatives), but because there are so many sessions to attend that I focus on those that actually give me more technical knowledge that I can do something with immediately. Having said all that, here's two absolutely wonderful sessions (and probably many more but I really liked these two) presented at Oredev over the last few days, one by JB Rainsberger and the other by Woody Zuill, both very nice people who I met for the first time during the last few days, and who aren't paying me to promote them, and who're still struggling to figure out how to say my name. Whether you're a developer or manager or whatever you are, take this on trust, and simply watch these screencasts, hey, at most you're going to lose two hours of your life that you would've spent doing something else: Speaking for myself, I'm going to be watching both these presentations again several times in my life, that's for sure.

• AntClassLoader bug exposed by forgetful NetBeans

  Many users have run into ClassNotFoundExceptions and NoClassDefFoundErrors after working with web services that target GlassFish while developing their projects in NetBeans. The issue usually appears as a dialog similar to this This can be pretty debilitating. The bug appears to be in the AntClassLoader, which is tickled by the wsimport ant task that ships with GlassFish 3.1.2. The fix is pretty simple: Upgrade the Metro bits that ship in 3.1.2 with bits that have had a patch applied. There are detailed instruction about installing the updated Metro bits onto GlassFish. This upgrade is probably useful for any install of GlassFish 3.1, but it is critically important for folks that develop web services from inside NetBeans and deploy them onto GlassFish 3.1.2.

So I was pleased to see SP1 is now available for download.Sure enough the issues have been fixed and it's once more a great tool!The data mapper can also now be run from the command line (this was a little limiting before as you had to open the IDE to run the mapping) and the Help now contains full documentation.#

  Oracle VM Server for SPARC (LDoms) release 2.2 came out on May 24. You can get the software, see the release notes, reference manual, and admin guide here on the Oracle VM for SPARC page. Oracle VM Server for SPARC enables you to create multiple virtual systems on a single physical system.Each virtual system is called alogical domain and runs its own instance of Oracle Solaris 10 or Oracle Solaris 11. The version of the Oracle Solaris OS software that runs on a guest domain is independent of the Oracle Solaris OS version that runs on the primary domain. So, if you run the Oracle Solaris 10 OS in the primary domain, you can still run the Oracle Solaris 11 OS in a guest domain, and if you run the Oracle Solaris 11 OS in the primary domain, you can still run the Oracle Solaris 10 OS in a guest domain In addition to that starting with the Oracle VM Server for SPARC 2.2 release you can migrate guest domain even if source and target machines have different processor type. You can migrate guest domain from a system with UltraSPARC  T2+ or SPARC T3 CPU to a system with a SPARC T4 CPU.The guest domain on the source and target system must run Solaris 11 In order to enable cross CPU migration.In addition to that you need to change the cpu-arch property value on the source system. • Cloning from a given point in the snapshot tree

  Although we have just released VirtualBox 4.3, this quick blog entry is about a longer standing ability of VirtualBox when it comes to Snapshots and Cloning, and was prompted by a question posed internally, here in Oracle: "Is there a way I can create a new VM from a point in my snapshot tree?". Here's the scenario: Let's say you have your favourite work VM which is Oracle Linux based and as you installed different packages, such as database, middleware, and the apps, you took snapshots at each point like this: But you then need to create a new VM for some other testing or to share with a colleague who will be using the same Linux and Database layers but may want to reconfigure the Middleware tier, and may want to install his own Apps. All you have to do is right click on the snapshot that you're happy with and clone: Give the VM that you are about to create a name, and if you plan to use it on the same host machine as the original VM, it's a good idea to "Reinitialize the MAC address" so there's no clash on the same network: Now choose the Clone type. If you plan to use this new VM on the same host as the original, you can use Linked Cloning else choose Full.  At this point you now have a choice about what to do about your snapshot tree. In our example, we're happy with the Linux and Database layers, but we may want to allow our colleague to change the upper tiers, with the option of reverting back to our known-good state, so we'll retain the snapshot data in the new VM from this point on: The cloning process then chugs along and may take a while if you chose a Full Clone: Finally, the newly cloned VM is ready with the subset of the Snapshot tree that we wanted to retain: Pretty powerful, and very useful.  Cheers, -FB
