• Executing a DTS package from Sql Server 2005

  I am trying to run several DTS packages from a sql 2000 box. The DTS calls will originate from .net 2.0 - 3.5 code. I have been unable to find a good way to programmatically accomplish this. What I have read is running a sql job from a stored procedure that calls the DTS package. Does anyone has any experience with this or know of a good way to call the DTS? Note: For the forseeable future these packages will remain DTS. Eventually we will convert them to SSIS. Any insight or experience would be very helpful.

  Hi, I would like to get some links for getting started with design patterns.My requirement is , (at Initial stage) How to go about developing a particular pattern , say customized ListView which can be shared across applications . e.g. Applications will call something like drawCustomizedListView(params...) and my code will draw the listview according to the parameters supplied. This is particularly useful when across the applications I have to draw customized views. My intention is, I should not repeat the same code everywhere for doing similar task. Obviously, to implement a comparison it not difficult, it is enough to compare all keys and their associated values. • How do i use RVM w/ Hudson CI server on Debian?

  I'm trying to setup an automated "build" server for my rails projects using Hudson CI. SO far it's able to run specs and do metrics on the code but I have 2 different projects dependent on 2 different versions of ruby. So i'm trying to use RVM to run multiple copies of ruby then switch back and forth in a pre-build step. I found a couple posts like this one that try and explain how to make this work, but I'm not running a startup script for hudson, it starts on boot which is how it worked out of the box when i installed it via the debian instructions. The problem seems to be that even though hudson runs under the "hudson" account and that account has rvm installed (and working) when it tries to run a shell based prebuild step to call rvm switch 1.8.7 it fails with the error "rvm: command not found" Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Hudson is using SH as its shell but i also tried using bash. no luck. Has anyone gotten this working before in this setup?

• Set binding for DataTemplate components in code

  Hi; sorry if I'm not clear, it's not really clear in my head too (especially after trying to find my way in other posts :p) What I'm willing to do is creating DataGrids in code, with zero to numerous columns containing a button, which will call one same function but with a "parameter" (different for each column). Here is what I got so far : DataGrid created in code DataTemplate defined in the xaml resources (with a button) DataGridTemplateColumn which uses the above DataTemplate Is it possible to bind the button's properties (in the DataTemplate), to the DataGridTemplateColumn properties (in my case, the column header would be ok), and how? Is there a way to get an access to the DataTemplate components (the button for example) in code, and modify their properties? Is it possible (and not hazardous) to create a DataTemplate in code? I declared mine in xaml because I found a post advising to do so instead of code. Thanks for your help.

• Full text searching in SQL Server 2008 Express Advanced

  Hi, I have recently installed SQL Server 2008 Express Edition with Advanced Services on XP Pro but am having trouble getting full text searching to work with an restored database. The database was originally created in SQL Server 2005. When I call a stored proc that uses the full text index then I get the following error: Full-Text Search is not installed, or a full-text component cannot be loaded. This is my db version: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (RTM) - 10.0.1600.22 (Intel X86) Jul 9 2008 14:43:34 Copyright (c) 1988-2008 Microsoft Corporation Express Edition with Advanced Services on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 3) When I run: SELECT DATABASEPROPERTY('DBNAME','ISFULLTEXTENABLED') I get: 1 Also, when I look in the advanced properties for the db server in Management Studio I see both the "Default Full-Text Language" and "Full-Text Upgrade Option" properties. However, when I go to SQL Server Configuration Manager I don't see the "MSSQLFDLauncher" service. Does anyone know how to get this working? Cheers, Iain

The text on the file (call it "Database.txt") must have the following format: Line1 Line2 Line3 var FS:FileStream = new FileStream(); var DatabaseFile:File = File.desktopDirectory.resolvePath("Database.txt"); FS.open(DatabaseFile, FileMode.WRITE); FS.writeUTFBytes("Line1" + "\n" + "Line2" + "\n" + "Line3"); FS.close(); But it writes the following text to the file: Line1 Line2 Line3.   I've been involved in some interviews at work recently, and having seen a few CVs, I've been thinking of my own. I wonder how I might rate my proficiency at the various technologies I've worked with on some sort of simple scale: Beginner, Intermediate, Expert. I've been doing C# for a few years now, but I'd hesitate to call myself "expert" particularly (partly because surely I haven't been doing it long enough, and partly because I can't bring myself to be so bold as to say I'm expert at anything). I think I probably was expert at VB back when I got into programming, but any VB skills I had will have deteriorated by now. Of course I wouldn't even bother listing things on my CV that I'd consider myself to be "beginner" at, I'd just add them to the "other tech" category, but I'd be interested to hear tips on helping me decide.

  Hi, this is a question for the algorithms gurus out there :-) Let S be a set of intervals of the natural numbers that might overlap and b a box size. Assume that for each interval, the range is strictly less than b. I want to find the minimum set of intervals of size b (let's call it M) so all the intervals in S are contained in the intervals of M. Trivial example: S = {[1..4], [2..7], [3..5], [8..15], [9..13]} b = 10 M = {[1..10], [8..18]} // so ([1..4], [2..7], [3..5]) are inside [1..10] and ([8..15], [9..13]) are inside [8..18] I think a greedy algorithm might not work always, so if anybody knows of a solution of this problem (or a similar one that can be converted into), that would be great.   I want to make an HTTP request and then get the response as sketched here: URLConnection c = new URL("http://foo.com").openConnection(); c.setDoOutput(true); /* write an http request here using a new OutputStreamWriter(c.getOutputStream) */ BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(c.getInputStream)); reader.readLine(); But my question is, if the request I send takes a long time before a response is received, what happens in the call reader.readLine() above? Will this process stay running/runnable on the CPU or will it get taken off the CPU and be notified to wake up and run again when there is IO to be read? If it stays on the CPU, what can be done to make it get off and be notified later?

• Sorting By Multiple Conditions in Ruby

  I have a collection of Post objects and I want to be able to sort them based on these conditions: First, by category (news, events, labs, portfolio, etc.) Then by date, if date, or by position, if a specific index was set for it Some posts will have dates (news and events), others will have explicit positions (labs, and portfolio). I want to be able to call posts.sort!, so I've overridden <=>, but am looking for the most effective way of sorting by these conditions. Below is a pseudo method: def <=>(other) # first, everything is sorted into # smaller chunks by category self.category <=> other.category # then, per category, by date or position if self.date and other.date self.date <=> other.date else self.position <=> other.position end end It seems like I'd have to actually sort two separate times, rather than cramming everything into that one method. Something like sort_by_category, then sort!. What is the most ruby way to do this?

• Potential for SQL injection here?

  This may be a really dumb question but I figure why not... I am using RIA Services with Entity Framework as the back end. I have some places in my app where I accept user input and directly ask RIA Services (and in turn EF and in turn my database) questions using their data. Do any of these layers help prevent security issues or should I scrub my data myself? For example, whenever a new user registers with the app, I call this method: [Query] public IEnumerable<EmailVerificationResult> VerifyUserWithEmailToken(string token) { using (UserService userService = new UserService()) { // token came straight from the user, am I in trouble here passing it directly into // my DomainService, should I verify the data here (or in UserService)? User user = userService.GetUserByEmailVerificationToken(token); ... } } (and whether I should be rolling my own user verification system is another issue altogether, we are in the process of adopting MS's membership framework. I'm more interested in sql injection and RIA services in general)

• can I read exactly one UDP packet off a socket?

  Using UNIX socket APIs on Linux, is there any way to guarantee that I read one UDP packet, and only one UDP packet? I'm currently reading packets off a non-blocking socket using recvmsg, with a buffer size a little larger than the MTU of our internal network. This should ensure that I can always receive the full UDP packet, but I'm not sure I can guarantee that I'll never receive more than one packet per recvmsg call, if the packets are small. The recvmsg man pages reference the MSG_WAITALL option, which attempts to wait until the buffer is filled. We're not using this, so does that imply that recvmsg will always return after one datagram is read? Is there any way to guarantee this? Ideally I'd like a cross-UNIX solution, but if that doesn't exist is there something Linux specific?

  I have a database with Points of Interest that all have an address. I want to know what is the method/name/call to get all nearby POIs from a given position. I understand that I need to convert all my addresses to LAT / LON coordinates at least, but my question is: for a given LAT / LONG how do I get from the database/array what POIs are nearby by distance, for example: You are here 0,0 nearest POIs in a 2km radius are: POI A (at 1.1 Km) POI C (at 1.3 Km) POI F (at 1.9 Km) I have no idea what should I look into to get what I want :-( Any help is greatly appreciated.   I would love to see an actual example how to use the casalib-garbage-collection. I used the destroy method like in the description: casa-lib description If I have a Loader in a Subclass, do I also have to use the CasaLibLoader? Do I have still to care about all Instances/Eventlisteners to do proper garbage collection? If yes, whats the advantage of casalib-garbage-collection? I assumed to call destroy on a Casalib-Sprite and then it would destroy all its subclasses and references, and therefore safe memory. It would be awesome to get an easy instruction.   For some reason, I want to dump a table from a database (sqlite3) in the form of a csv file. I'm using a python script with elixir (based on sqlalchemy) to modify the database. I was wondering if there is any way to dump the table I use to csv. I've seen sqlalchemy serializer but it doesn't seem to be what I want. Am I doing it wrong? Should I call the sqlite3 python module after closing my sqlalchemy session to dump to a file instead? Or should I use something homemade?

  I am building a Google App Engine App that lets users upload images; I have everything working fine, but I am struggling to find a way to ensure that the user does not upload an image too large (because I am resizing the images, so this crashes my python script). When a user uploads a large image, I get this error RequestTooLargeError: The request to API call images.Transform() was too large. I know that there is a size limitation on what GAE allows for it's image API, I am just trying to find a way to deal with this server side; something along the lines of if (image is too large): inform user else: proceed I haven't had any luck finding the right python code to do this; can anyone help me out?

I've linked the sub-report to dataset and dataset has one table call image and it contain column system.byte[]. main report link to another dataset . main report has parameters and sub report has only image field. but when run main report display data but sub report don't display. no error message. sub report dataset not pass data to report. anyone have any idea what might be causing the sub-reports to not work??

The query should be efficient: there are millions of rows in people table, hundreds of thousands of rows in properties table (so most people have no properties). There are hundreds of rows selected at a time. Is there any way to do it?

• How to convert an arbitrary object to String with JSTL? (calling toString())

  Is there any way to call toString() on an object with the JSTL? (I need the String representation of an enum as index in a map in a JSP EL expression.) I hoped something like ${''+object} would work like in java, but JSTL isn't that nice, and there does not seem to be any function that does it. Clarification: I have a variable somemap that maps Strings to Strings, and I have a variable someenum that is an enumeration. I'd like to do something like ${somemap[someenum.toString()]}. (Of course .toString() does not work, but what does?)

• Solid FFmpeg wrapper for C#/.NET

  I have been searching the web for some time for a solid FFmpeg wrapper for C#/.NET. But I have yet to come up with something useful. I have found the following three projects, but all of them apears to be dead in early alpha stage. FFmpeg.NET ffmpeg-sharp FFLIB.NET So my question is if anyone knows of a wrapper project that is more mature? I am not looking for a full transcoding engine with job queues and more. Just a simple wrapper so I do not have to make a command line call and then parse the console output, but can make method calls and use eventlisteners for progress. And please feel free to mention any active projects, even if they are stil in the early stages.
