  • Screen capture code produces black bitmap

    - by wadetandy
I need to add the ability to take a screenshot of the entire screen, not just the current window. The following code produces a bmp file with the correct dimensions, but the image is completely black. What am I doing wrong? void CaptureScreen(LPCTSTR lpszFilePathName) { BITMAPFILEHEADER bmfHeader; BITMAPINFO *pbminfo; HBITMAP hBmp; FILE *oFile; HDC screen; HDC memDC; int sHeight; int sWidth; LPBYTE pBuff; BITMAP bmp; WORD cClrBits; RECT rcClient; screen = GetDC(0); memDC = CreateCompatibleDC(screen); sHeight = GetDeviceCaps(screen, VERTRES); sWidth = GetDeviceCaps(screen, HORZRES); //GetObject(screen, sizeof(BITMAP), &bmp); hBmp = CreateCompatibleBitmap ( screen, sWidth, sHeight ); // Retrieve the bitmap color format, width, and height. GetObject(hBmp, sizeof(BITMAP), (LPSTR)&bmp) ; // Convert the color format to a count of bits. cClrBits = (WORD)(bmp.bmPlanes * bmp.bmBitsPixel); if (cClrBits == 1) cClrBits = 1; else if (cClrBits bmiHeader.biSize = sizeof(BITMAPINFOHEADER); pbminfo-bmiHeader.biWidth = bmp.bmWidth; pbminfo-bmiHeader.biHeight = bmp.bmHeight; pbminfo-bmiHeader.biPlanes = bmp.bmPlanes; pbminfo-bmiHeader.biBitCount = bmp.bmBitsPixel; if (cClrBits bmiHeader.biClrUsed = (1bmiHeader.biCompression = BI_RGB; // Compute the number of bytes in the array of color // indices and store the result in biSizeImage. // The width must be DWORD aligned unless the bitmap is RLE // compressed. pbminfo-bmiHeader.biSizeImage = ((pbminfo-bmiHeader.biWidth * cClrBits +31) & ~31) /8 * pbminfo-bmiHeader.biHeight; // Set biClrImportant to 0, indicating that all of the // device colors are important. pbminfo-bmiHeader.biClrImportant = 0; CreateBMPFile(lpszFilePathName, pbminfo, hBmp, memDC); } void CreateBMPFile(LPTSTR pszFile, PBITMAPINFO pbi, HBITMAP hBMP, HDC hDC) { HANDLE hf; // file handle BITMAPFILEHEADER hdr; // bitmap file-header PBITMAPINFOHEADER pbih; // bitmap info-header LPBYTE lpBits; // memory pointer DWORD dwTotal; // total count of bytes DWORD cb; // incremental count of bytes BYTE *hp; // byte pointer DWORD dwTmp; int lines; pbih = (PBITMAPINFOHEADER) pbi; lpBits = (LPBYTE) GlobalAlloc(GMEM_FIXED, pbih-biSizeImage); // Retrieve the color table (RGBQUAD array) and the bits // (array of palette indices) from the DIB. lines = GetDIBits(hDC, hBMP, 0, (WORD) pbih-biHeight, lpBits, pbi, DIB_RGB_COLORS); // Create the .BMP file. hf = CreateFile(pszFile, GENERIC_READ | GENERIC_WRITE, (DWORD) 0, NULL, CREATE_ALWAYS, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, (HANDLE) NULL); hdr.bfType = 0x4d42; // 0x42 = "B" 0x4d = "M" // Compute the size of the entire file. hdr.bfSize = (DWORD) (sizeof(BITMAPFILEHEADER) + pbih-biSize + pbih-biClrUsed * sizeof(RGBQUAD) + pbih-biSizeImage); hdr.bfReserved1 = 0; hdr.bfReserved2 = 0; // Compute the offset to the array of color indices. hdr.bfOffBits = (DWORD) sizeof(BITMAPFILEHEADER) + pbih-biSize + pbih-biClrUsed * sizeof (RGBQUAD); // Copy the BITMAPFILEHEADER into the .BMP file. • How can I find which drivers are the correct ones for my machine?

    - by tombull89
I'm currently installing Windows 7 onto a new laptop before imaging it to deploy. I need to install the Wireless and Graphics drivers, but the HP site is offering me both ATI and Intel graphics drivers (at 102MB and 470(!)MB) a pop, as well as Intel, Broadcomm, RealTek and Atheros wireless drivers. Is there a bit of software that will tell me what devices are in the machine so I don't have to go through, trial-and-error and find which is the right driver for the hardware?

  • Setting udev rules in Linux Mint 13

    - by user1233963
What I'm trying to do is set up a udev rule for my HP headphones (usb) with the aid of several tutorials out there. Created a file ( 90-local.rules ) in /etc/udev/rules.d and added the following: ACTION="add",SUBSYSTEM="usb", ATTR{vendor}=="Hewlett-Packard", RUN+="sh /home/alex/Scripts/usb.sh" The problem is nothing happens when I connect the headphones! What am I doing wrong? note: I did restart udev and the script works also, so it's not that

  • Is it possible to use Linux as a Fibre Channel Raid Disk Box?

    - by SvenW
You probably all know the relatively simple RAID boxes exporting a bunch of SATA disks as one big drive via FC, SAS or iSCSI, like the HP StorageWorks MSA2000, Infortrends EonStore series or many different other models from different manufacturers. Is it possible to create such a device with Linux, a few disks and an FC controller, using the controller in the reverse direction than usual? This would come handy to test some ideas and concepts in an emerging SAN environment.

  • Photocopying using a separate scanner and printer

    - by jay
I have 2 printers. HP Deskjet F2235 - designated scanner (has printing issues) Brother HL-2040 - designated printer (doesn't have a scanner) Just by using those two both connected to the same computer, is there a way to perform a photocopy operation by scanning via the designated scanner then immediately it being printed from the designated printer? Obviously you could save the scanned files then print them, but short of making a script or manually doing this, is there a faster automatic way through settings or third-party software?

  • How to force a remap of sectors reported in S.M.A.R.T C5 (Current Pending Sector Count)?

    - by edgh
The S.M.A.R.T C5 value of my Samsung HM640JJ Hard Drive (in an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop) is "yellow status = caution" C5 was 10 yesterday, and it's 21 today. C4 (Reallocation Event Count) = 0 and 05 (Reallocated Sectors Count) = 0 How can I force the firmware to reallocate them? I removed the partitions, recreated them again and formatted the entire drive. I ran chkdsk /r /f I ran the BIOS disk check utility and other diagnose/repair tools

  • Can't start computer, it only boots into BIOS update

    - by kerry
My son has a Compaq Presario computer running on Windows 7 and he has brought it down to me cause it's 'not working'. When I start up the computer I get a HP BIOS update that fails and keeps restarting with the same screens, only to fail every time. I have read some forum posts that suggest taking it back to default settings – how do I do this when I cant get anything on the computer screen except for the update? I'm a complete novice with computers.

  • Can all-in-one desktops be good developer machines?

    - by user6900
I was just going through some all-in-one desktop PCs (Dell Studio One, HP Touch Smart, Lenovo IdeaCenter, etc.) and their specs really look good (4 GB RAM, 2.x GHz Core 2 Duo, etc.) Are there any disadvantages of such PCs as a developer machine? I mostly do Java (Eclipse + MySQL + Tomcat / JBoss) or .NET (Visual Studio + MsSQL) development. Edit: One common question I could see is harddrive size and that's around 320 GB 7200 RPM.

  • windows 8 recovery partition

    - by Rafik Takieddin
Recently I have bought a second hand HP Notebook from a friend. The PC still has the recovery partition not backed up yet. However, I'm thinking of resetting Windows using the new Windows 8 resetting feature. Windows warned me that all files will be deleted. Is it okay to reset Windows then backup the recovery partition in order to have a fresh backup or this can lead to losing the recovery partition and, with it, my genuine copy of Windows 8?

  • Second portable monitor for a laptop

    - by user2630
I'm away from my home office fairly regularly but I find it difficult to really settle to productive coding without my custom 4-screen custom built PC. My laptop (a slightly ageing HP Pavilion with a 1440 x 900 display) would really benefit from a portable monitor to plug into the vga port. Is there any suitable products out there which offer an easily luggable lightweight monitor which would fit in my laptop, offer reasonable resolution and response, and significantly enhance my screen real-estate?

  • Accessing temperature data on ESXi5.1?

    - by Ovesh
For ESXi5.1 (VMWare vSphere) images, I can see temperature data on the vSphere user interface (under Monitor / Hardware Status). I tried scouring the available snmp data using snmpwalk, but can't find the data anywhere in there. Maybe I'm missing something. Does anybody know the right MIB for temperature data? Otherwise, ow can that data be accessed? By the way, this is a machine installed from an image provided by HP.

  • New laptop battery: 80% capacity

    - by Danilo
I have got an old laptop (HP Pavilion DV2000, 5.5 years old) and I just bought a new battery for it (10,8V 5200mAh 6 Cells) probably not an original one. When I charged it full the first time, it reached a capacity (as see through the Ubuntu 12.04 Power Statistics tool) of 80%. After 3 full cycles, it's at 79.5%. Do you think it is normal, or the battery may be damaged (and I can complain with the vendor)?
