  • How can I automatically cycle a new image in an AWS Auto Scaling Group?

    I have a web application setup with a load balancer and auto scaling group to manage scaling. The source code is in a git repository so I don't have to update the images when the code changes, but occasionally the environment changes so we create a new image. Then that image needs to be cycled into the auto scaling group. Is there a way to cycle the images automatically? Right now I schedule a scale up and scale down action which gets rid of the old instances.

I tried to activate the remote management from osx server then use remote desktop login from windows(failed) Tried to activate built in vnc server from osx server then use vnc client from windows(failed) tried to install osxvnc server(vine server) on osx then use either tightvnc or ultravnc on windows (connects but after sometime disconnect) PS. I would prefer a free software for both servers.

  • Port forwarding to asp.net development server

    I have configured my router so that I can access my localhost from internet. But I can't manage to port forward it to asp.net development server. In router's port forwarding I did the same thing as for the localhost but only changed port number so that it is the same as the one that is assigned to my application, but this doesn't work.     I like to use the following commands to manage 'TIME_WAIT', in the hope to free up resources. echo 20 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_fin_timeout sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_tw_reuse=1 sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_tw_recycle=1 I found something interesting while doing a tcpdump. Sometimes if a client makes a connection (syn), the server will not reply (syn -ack). My question is, could it be because of the top three commands.

    I am curious to know how services such as heroku manage 1000's of virtual hosts - ie if you create a web site/app, and put it up on these services, you get your own virtual host name - foo.heroku.com etc (the same applies to many other sites that have vanity URLs). I know with various web servers and proxies you can configure as many virtual hosts as you want - but there must be some upper limit to this ? Do they programmatically add virtual hosts - perhaps spreading the load? Or are there other solutions.

    I have permission to attached a mailbox to my profile. This is a mailbox I share and manage with other people. When we send from this address, we would like to have the message show up in this mailbox's sent items folder. The current behavior is that the message goes to our primary account's sent items. I'm using Outlook 2007 but others are using Outlook 2003. This is in an Exchange 2007 environment.

I'm not talking about remote management (like cfengine) but little tools which help to manage a small number of Linux servers.

    I use the minimal "fast lightweight window manager" (fwlm) which doesn't have a system tray. I need a simple program to manage my WIFI and virtual private netwok connection --- and found the NetworkManager. The problem is that the NetworkManager is a system-tray icon: I cannot see it or click on it in my fwlm windows manager. Hence, I ask: Is there any way to start the NetworkManager directly without using the system tray?

    We have set up Tomcat 6 with [TOMCAT_HOME]/lib - here is the standard tomcat release [TOMCAT_BASE]/lib - here we like to add non standard additional jar file However somehow I don't manage to get [TOMCAT_BASE]/lib jar files to be picked up by Tomcat. It appears that all my jar files out side tomcat are ignored. Before starting Tomcat I set the CLASSPATH=[TOMCAT_BASE]\lib -------- Edit JAVA_ENDORSED_DIRS can be used for adding an additional folder with jar files to be loaded by Tomcat

  • Strange behavior when changing default shell, and setting explorer.exe as winlogon shell for specific user

    I use a custom logon shell on a machine (windows 7) for security reasons - which works fine by altering HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\shell. However, I also want that the administrator will still be able to manage the machine, so I modified the user specific key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\shell back to explorer.exe - but when I log on I get a single windows explorer window, and not the full desktop. does any one know how to configure the normal desktop shell only to a specific user?

I have several laptops that were encrypten using BitLocker (and they're reporting to the MBAM Console), but I can't manage the TPM password since they're not "owned" by the server. Anybody know of a way to get these few laptops integrated into my MBAM console?

What is the recommended way/what are the advantages disadvantages of having all the printers shared through the Server 2008 Print server vs having workstations connect directly to the workstation printers. Off the top of my head using the server 2008 print server is a single point of failure but Should make it easier to deploy/manage the printers.

    I want to use SendGrid as my email sending service, but want to also use Postfix's internal queue mechanism to manage the emails sent through Sendgrid. So basically what I want to do is to configure Postfix to send emails through Sendgrid's SMTP, and I will configure my app to send the emails using the local Postfix.     here is how posterous works, I make a A record of DNS of my domain (blog.mydomainname.com) to posterous IP address 67.207.139.81 , in the manage panel of posterous , i put my custom domain (blog.meetingly.com). Then i can reach my posterous blog http://mydomainname.posterous.com from http://blog.mydomainname.com url. How posterous implements this? Is this a DNS level thing or web server level setting?
