  • How to Increase Link Popularity by Using International Search Engine Optimization

A few years ago, international search engine optimization was not around and determining your popularity in the search engine had nothing to do with building link popularity, but instead on page factors. • MSVC++ Resource (.rc) files tutorial? [closed]

    - by Serge
I'm looking for a good tutorial for making resource files (*.rc) in MSVC++. I've been googling, and nothing has been useful in the slightest. What I'm looking for is a guide for how to actually write, manually, a *.rc file. Anything I have found so far, especially on MSDN, has only been about how to use the Visual Studio menu options to let it create resources for you. I'm not interested in that. Anyone able to help?

  • 13.04: update-initramfs works but mkinitramfs fails from APT

    - by Phil2.0
I'm experiencing a strange thing, I've freshly upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04, Everything is fine except that it can't build the initrd image automatically, it fails and prints out the mkinitramfs's Usage output. I tried to debug the "mkinitramfs" script and it appears the $outfile variable is never set. However, I'm able to produce the ramdisk manually like follow: update-initramfs -c -u 3.0.8-23-generic I tried most of the stuff seen on the net: purge, reinstall but no help but nothing, and I can't use linux-image is marked as "broken" but the kernel exists in /boot.

  • Why has the accessor methods from the JavaBean specification become the standard for Java development?

    - by Dakotah North
The JavaBeans Specification describes a JavaBean as A Java Bean is a reusable software component that can be manipulated visually in a builder tool Since the majority of the lines of code that are written seem to have nothing to do with being manipulated visually in a builder tool, why has the JavaBean specification been the "way" to write object oriented code? I would like to forgo the traditional getter/setter in favor of Fluent Interfaces all throughout the code, not just in builders but fear doing so since this is traditionally not the way way object oriented code is written in Java.

  • TopComponent, Node, Lookup, Palette, and Visual Library

    - by Geertjan
Here's a small example that puts together several pieces in the context of a NetBeans Platform application, i.e., TopComponent, Node, Lookup, Palette, and Visual Library: http://java.net/projects/nb-api-samples/sources/api-samples/show/versions/7.2/misc/CensusDesigner The result is a drag-and-drop user interface, i.e., drag items from the palette and drop them onto the window, that's all it does, nothing too fancy, just puts the basic NetBeans Platform pieces together in a pretty standard combination:

  • Turning on and off HP Probook 4530S touchpad

    - by ScienceSE
I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my HP laptop and among some problems, one of which I'm trying to solve is the touchpad problem. It's working, but how can I turn on/off it? In SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (which was preinstalled) and Windows, the touchpad is enabled/disabled by touching the left upper corner, when small diode is situated. In Ubuntu, I touched that area many times, but nothing happened. Do anybody know how to solve the problem?

  • Linux on 8-bit

    - by nospam(at)example.com (Joerg Moellenkamp)
This is nothing short of extremly cool from a technical perspective. The author has done it by writing an ARM emulator for an AVR controller and running Linux with this emulation : Linux on an 8-bit micro?.This is definitely not the fastest, but I think it may be the cheapest, slowest, simplest to hand assemble, lowest part count, and lowest-end Linux PC. The board is hand-soldered using wires, there is not even a requirement for a printed circuit board

  • Maintaining unmaintainable code

    - by uman
Hi guys, I'm at a job where I have to do a lot of bugfixing in code that's, shall we say, not the most best-practicey in the world. One example I found today: The logic for checking whether a form has been modified and we should prompt the user if he wants to save is in a function called "IsImage". The function has nothing to do with images whatsoever. Hmmm... How do fellow stackexchangers deal with situations like this and maintain their sanity?

  • Position sprite at center of screen

    - by Wellie
I am trying to get a sprite to position itself at the center of the screen but nothing seems to be working for me. I'm trying Viewport viewport = graphics.GraphicsDevice.Viewport; logoPosition = new Vector2((viewport.Width - towerImage.Width) / 2, (viewport.Height - towerImage.Height) / 2); and spriteBatch.Draw(towerImage, centre, null, Color.White, 0, baseOrigin, 1.0f, SpriteEffects.None, 0); This is my first time using XNA and I don't really have a clue what I'm doing.

  • In dependency injection, is there a simple name for the counterpart of the injected object?

    - by kostja
In tutorials and books, I have never seen a single word describing the object that the injected object is injected into. Instead, other terms are used, like "injection point" which don't denote the object containing the injected object. And nothing I can think of sounds right, except maybe "injection target" - but I have never read it anywhere. Is there a single word or a simple expression for it, or is it like the "He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named" from a recent fantasy book series?

  • The cpuidle subsystem

<b>LWN.net:</b> "Your editor recently had cause to dig around in the cpuidle subsystem. It never makes sense to let such work go to only a single purpose when it could be applied toward the creation of a kernel-page article. So, what follows is a multi-level discussion of cpuidle, what it's for, and how it works. Doing nothing, it turns out, is more complicated than one might think."

  • Time development vs production values

    - by Pier
I have to choose between a framework I already know (Adobe Air), and a framework I know nothing about but is more powerful (Unity). I can do the mobile game I have in mind with both platforms, but the quality of the graphics and development time would be quite different. From an indie mobile perspective, are more detailed graphics justifiable commercially? Is there any objective study that throws some solid conclusions about that?
