• Is there good .sol editor for Flash Player 9 Local Shared Objects? Can we build one?

  There's plenty of them out there but none of them do what I would like them to do. Most of them crash when opening a file or simply corrupt the data. Many don't run at all. It seems to me that most were written 3-4 years ago for AS2 .sols and no longer work with FP9/AS3 sols. I'd attempt to write my own using AIR but I can't find a new spec of the byte format. There's an explanation of the file format here: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=27026&group_id=131628 and another here: http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_doc.php?docid=27026&group_id=131628 but it looks as though both of these docs are a good 4 years old (pre-FP9) and as I'm not skilled or experienced in file formats, writing a new one, especially without an updated spec, is seeming like less and less of a viable option. Ideally I'd like one that can not only read the .sol, but edit and save new values also. Thanks!

  i am using the following code to read the details from a network folder which is restricted for only one user shell("net use q: \\serveryname\foldername /user:admin pwrd", AppWinStyle.Hide, True, 10000) Process.Start(path) shell("net use q: /delete") when i run this to open any pdf or jpg or any other files except word/excel/powerpoint, everything is working fine. but the problem comes only when i access a word file. in the step one, i am giving permission to access the word file. in the step two, word file is open. in the third, i am deleting the q drive. the problem is the word file is still open. so i am getting a dos window, saying that "some connections of still connected or searching some folders, do you want to force disconnect" please help.... how to access a word file (editable files) providing user name and password from the code and at the same time he shoud not have access to any other folders directly.

• When/why does Internet Explorer block installation of a (signed) ActiveX control?

  When the user visits a page that contains a signed ActiveX control that has never been seen before, I'd expect IE to ask the user for permission to install the control. But sometimes IE puts up a security warning instead. For example, consider this site, which has a test control: http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp I'd expect to get this message -- and sometimes, I do: "The website wants to run the following add-on: 'XXX' from 'YYY'. If you trust the the website and the add-on and want to allow it to run, click here..." But under IE8 on XP, I usually get this instead: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this site from showing certain content. Click here for options..." What's going on? • String to date (Invalid format)

  I am using Joda Time library to convert my String dates to a real date, because this seemed like the easiest solution to do this. • Rails Custom Plugin/Gem with Partials

  I am writing a gem which provides helpers for views. The HTML I want to insert via the helper is complex enough that I'd rather write it in a _partial.html.erb file. How do I get the gem's view path include in the application's load_path? Note: the only gem I've found that does something like this is Devise. • Jquery, "$.each(", function returns error in IE. 'Length' is null or not an object

  My code is working fine in FireFox but my users are restricted to IE. • Is writing to a socket an arbitrary limitation of the sendfile() syscall?

  Prelude sendfile() is an extremely useful syscall for two reasons: First, it's less code than a read()/write() (or recv()/send() if you prefer that jive) loop. Second, it's faster (less syscalls, implementation may copy between devices without buffer, etc...) than the aforementioned methods. Less code. More efficient. Awesome. In UNIX, everything is (mostly) a file. This is the ugly territory from the collision of platonic theory and real-world practice. I understand that sockets are fundamentally different than files residing on some device. I haven't dug through the sources of Linux/*BSD/Darwin/whatever OS implements sendfile() to know why this specific syscall is restricted to writing to sockets (specifically, streaming sockets). I just want to know... Question What is limiting sendfile() from allowing the destination file descriptor to be something besides a socket (like a disk file, or a pipe)?

• getting window screenshot windows API

  Hi, I am trying to make a program to work on top of an existing GUI to annotate it and provide extra calculations and statistical information. I want to do this using image recognition, as I have learned a fair amount about this in University using Matlab and similar things. I can get a handle to the window I want to perform image recognition on, but I don't know how to turn that handle into an image of that window, and all its visible child windows. I suppose I am looking for something like the screenshot function, but restricted to a single window. How would I go about doing this? I suppose I'd need something like a .bmp to mess about with. Also, it would have to be efficient enough that I could call it several times a second without my PC grinding to a halt. Hopefully this isn't an obvious question, I typed some things into google but didn't get anything related.

  I am downloading zip file from web server using Java but somehow I am loosing about 2kb in each file. • Objective c string formatter for distances

  I have a distance as a float and I'm looking for a way to format it nicely for human readers. Ideally, I'd like it to change from m to km as it gets bigger, and to round the number nicely. Converting to miles would be a bonus. I'm sure many people have had a need for one of these and I'm hoping that there's some code floating around somewhere. Here's how I'd like the formats: 0-100m: 47m (as a whole number) 100-1000m: 325m or 320m (round to the nearest 5 or 10 meters) 1000-10000m: 1.2km (round to nearest with one decimal place) 10000m +: 21km If there's no code available, how can I write my own formatter?   I have coded a "website screen scraper" and want to sell it commercially. I know that webpages scraped by the screen scraper are restricted to be scraped by the webmaser of that website. The robots.txt file of the website says that its webpages must not be scraped. So my question is whether selling that screen scraper is a crime or using that screen scraper is a crime in legal terms. I know that this question is related to law but I thought the software experts on SO must also have answer to this question.

• Best way to show code snippets in word?

  Does anyone know a good way to display code in Microsoft Word documents? I have tried to include code as regular text which looks awful and gets in the way when editing regular text. I have also tried inserting objects, a WordPad document and Text Box, into the document then putting the code inside those objects. The code looks much better and is easier to avoid while editing the rest of the text. However, these objects can only span one page which makes editing a nightmare when several pages of code need to be added. Lastly, I know that there are much better editors/formats that have no problem handling this but I am stuck working with MS word.

• Different NSTimeZone names being returned

  I've noticed that on some devices the NSTimeZone's name method for a particular timezone can return different values. When testing the Brisbane time zone, my device returns @"Australia/Brisbane" whereas another user's device returns "Etc/GMT-10". Both iPhone's are running 3.1.2. The Date and Time Programming Guide for Cocoa states that: timeZoneWithName: The name passed to this method may be in any of the formats understood by the system, for example EST, Etc/GMT-2, America/Argentina/Buenos_Aires, Europe/Monaco, or US/Pacific, as shown in the following code fragment. I'd just like to know what could determine which value is used? The device? The language?

NCPDP (National Council for Prescription Drug Programs) is an standard for e-prescribing. It defines two formats for message transmission: binary and XML. Implementing XML is somehow easier because it is a standard format which in turn gives us more tooling options. The binary format has a very big specification and time-consuming to implement. • How do I remove (or apply) transparency on a gdk-pixbuf?

  I have a c++ program in which a gdk-pixbuf is created. I want to output it as an image, so I call gdk_pixbuf_save_to_stream(pixbuf,stream,type,NULL,&err,NULL). This works fine when "type" is png or tiff, but with jpeg or bmp it just produces a black square. The original pixbuf consists of black-on-transparent (and gdk_pixbuf_get_has_alpha returns true) so I'm guessing that the problem is with the alpha mask. GdkPixbuf has a function to add an alpha channel, but I can't see one that removes it again, or (which might be as good) to invert it. Is there a simple way to get the jpeg and bmp formats to work properly? (I should say that I'm very new to proper programming like this.)

• Custom format document option in visual studio. Formatting CSS tags.

  Hi, When i work in VS2008, i use the Ctrl+K+D very often as it saves a lot of time. But in CSS files, this command formats the document in a way i don't quite like. For example when i auto format the document, .Foo { width:1px; height:2px; } However, i like to format tags this way, as it is much more easy to read (in my opinion): .Foo { width:1px; height:2px; } So, are there any way that i can implement this ? The "Tag specific options" feature seems to be the thing that i need, but i am not quite sure how to do this. Thanks.

• PIL saves image colour wrong

  I have an image. I want to resize it using PIL, but it come out like this. Even without a resize it still messes up the colour. The problem is, some of my data contains commas, and therefore is split by the autocomplete helper. Heres my code. Should I be using regex or should I go with a completely different approach?

  hi, i am trying to form-post a sql file that consists on many INSERTS, eg. INSERT INTO `TABLE` VALUES ('abcdé', 2759); then i use re.search to parse it and extract the fields to put into my own datastore. The problem is that, although the file contains accented characters (see the e is a é), once uploaded it loses it and either errors or stores a bytestring representation of it. Heres what i am currently using (and I have tried loads of alternatives): form = cgi.FieldStorage() uFile = form['sql'] uSql = uFile.file.read() lineX = uSql.split("\n") # to get each line and so on. has anyone got a robust way of making this work? remember i am on appengine so access to some libraries is restricted/forbidden

• Having difficulty add a custom icon to a JFrame

  Hi, I have been trying to change the icon in the frame. I have virtually tried everything: The icon is 16x16 which is the right size ....doesn't work I've trying PNG,GIF and JPG formats none of them work. Tried different way of setting the icon....doesn't work. • Configuration manager for PHP

  I am working on code re-factoring of configuration file loading part in PHP. Earlier I was using multiple 'ini' files but now I plan to go for single XML file which will be containing all configuration details of the project. Problem is, if somebody wants configuration file in ini or DB or anything else and not the default one (in this case XML), my code should handle that part. If somebody wants to go for other configuration option like ini, he will have to create ini file similar to my XML configuration file and my configuration manager should take care everything like parsing, storing in cache. For that I need a mechanism lets say proper interface for my configuration data where the underlying data store can be anything( XML, DB, ini etc) also I don't want it to be dependent on these underlying store and anytime in future this should be extensible to other file formats.

• Correct way to detect sequence parameter?

  I want to write a function that accepts a parameter which can be either a sequence or a single value. The type of value is str, int, etc., but I don't want it to be restricted to a hardcoded list. In other words, I want to know if the parameter X is a sequence or something I have to convert to a sequence to avoid special-casing later. I could do type(X) in (list, tuple) but there may be other sequence types I'm not aware of, and no common base class. -N. Edit: See my "answer" below for why most of these answers don't help me. Maybe you have something better to suggest.
