    in python , suppose i have file data.txt . which has 6 lines of data . I want to calculate the no of lines which i am planning to do by going through each character and finding out the number of '\n' in the file . How to take one character input from the file ? Readline taken the whole line .

    I'm planning to have a desktop app interact with some .ASP or .ASPX pages on a server. I've only done a little bit with .asp pages and I'm thinking I'd just Post or Get a URL with some variables: MySite.com/Functions.asp?FunctionName=?Paramater1=somevalue?Parameter2=... I'm wondering if there is any better way to go about this? Am I missing something? Is there perhaps a better way to go about this?

    Hi - how do I push server alerts to tray apps in java without using xmpp or other heavy protocols? Do you recommend a way to accomplish this? I was planning to write an app which uses URLConnection on a server equipped with Comet but I doubt if that would work as the client requires a JS to be invoked and URLConnection is not a browser.. What is the best way to push instead of using a proprietary client-server approach?

    I'd like to create the same kind of function tumblr has for uploading images and then inserting them directly into the WYSIWYG editor. I was planning on using uploadify to upload the image, then I am not sure of the method for inserting into the CKEditor. Has anyone done anything similar or know of a plugin that could do this? I want to be able to replace all references to the separated tables from the original database using views. Is there a better way (other than manually changing all FK and SProc references) to switch all the dependencies to reference the view instead of the table?

    I'm planning to buy CryptoLicensing but before buying it I'd like to get some feedbacks if anyone tried it before. Also it'd be interesting if anyone cracked it or spotted an easy hack against it. I've recently lost the folder structure after a merge operation gone-bad and would like to rename the recovered files according to the metadata.
