• Some of my favourite Visual Studio 2012 things&ndash;Teams

  Getting the balance right for when and how many team projects to create has always been a bit of a balance.  On large initiatives, there are often teams who work toward a common system.  These teams often have quite a bit of autonomy, but need to roll up to some higher level initiative.  In TFS 2010, people were often tempted to create separate Team Projects for each of the sub-teams and then do some magic with reporting and cross-team queries to get the consolidated view.  My recommendation was always to use Areas as a means of separating work across the team, but that always resulted in a large number of queries that need to be maintained and just seemed confusing.  When doing anything you had to remember to filter the query or view by Area in order to get correct results. Along with the awesome web access portal that comes in TFS 2012 (which I will cover details of in another post) the product group has introduced the concept of Teams.  A team is a sub-group within a TFS 2012 Team Project which allows us to more easily divide work along team boundaries. Technically, a Team is defined by an Area Path and a TFS Group, both of which could be done in TFS 2012.  However, by allowing for creation of a ‘Team’ in TFS 2012, the web portal is able to do a bunch of ‘magic’ for us.  We can view the project site (backlog, taskboard, etc) for the the team, we can assign items to the team and we can view the burndown for the team.  Basically, all the stuff that we had to prepare manually we now get created and managed for us with a nice UI. When you create a Team Project in TFS 2012, a ‘Default’ team is created with the same name as the Team Project.  So, if you only have 1 team working on the project, you are set.  If you want to divide the work into additional teams, you can create teams by using the Team Web Client. Teams are created using the ‘Administer Server’ icon in the top right of the web site.   You can select the team site by using the team chooser: Once you have selected a team, the Product Backlog, TaskBoard, Burndown Charts, etc. are all filtered to that team. NOTE: You always have the ability to choose the ‘Default’ team to see items for the entire project. • The curious case of SOA Human tasks' automatic completion

  A large south-Asian insurance industry customer using Oracle BPM and SOA ran into this. I have survived this ordeal previously myself but didnt think to blog it then. However, it seems like a good idea to share this knowledge with this reader community and so here goes.. Symptom: A human task (in a SOA/BPEL/BPM process) completes automatically while it should have been assigned to a proper user.There are no stack traces, no related exceptions in the logs. Why: The product is designed to treat human tasks that don't have assignees as one that is eligible for completion. And hence no warning/error messages are recorded in the logs. Usecase variant: A variant of this usecase, where an assignee doesnt exist in the repository is treated as a recoverable error. One can find this in the 'pending recovery' instances in EM and reactivate the task by changing the assignees in the bpm workspace as a process owner /administrator. But back to the usecase when tasks get completed automatically... When: This happens when the users/groups assigned to a task are 'empty' or null. This has been seen only on tasks whose assignees are derived from an assignment expression - ie at runtime an XPath is used to determine who to assign the task to. (This should not happen if task assignees are populated via swim-lane roles.) How to detect this in EM For instances that are auto-completed thus, one will notice in the Audit Trail of such instances, that the 'outcome' of the task is empty. The 'acquired by' element will also show as empty/null. Enabling the oracle.soa.services.workflow.* logger in em should print more verbose messages about this. How to fix this The application code needs two fixes: input to HT: The XSLT/XPath used  to set the task 'assignee' and the process itself should be enhanced to handle nulls better. For eg: if no-data-found, set assignees to alternate value, force default assignees etc. output from HT: Additionally, in the application code, check that the 'outcome' of the HT is not-null. If null, route the task to be performed again after setting the assignee correctly. Beginning PS4FP, one should be able to use 'grab' to route back to the task to fire again. Hope this helps.

• SharePoint 2010 Hosting :: Hiding SharePoint 2010 Ribbon From Anonymous Users

  The user interface improvements in SharePoint 2010 as a whole are truly amazing. Microsoft has brought this already impressive product leaps and bounds in terms of accessibility, standards, and usability. One thing you might be aware of is the new and quite useful “ribbon” control that appears by default at the top of every SharePoint 2010 master page. Here’s a sneak peek: You’ll see this ribbon not only in the 2010 web interface, but also throughout the entire family of Office products coming out this year. Even SharePoint Designer 2010 makes use of the ribbon in a very flexible and useful way. Hiding The Ribbon In SharePoint 2010, the ribbon is used almost exclusively for content creation and site administration. It doesn’t make much sense to show the ribbon on a public-facing internet site (in fact, it can really retract from your site’s design when it appears), so you’ll probably want to hide the ribbon when users aren’t logged in. Here’s how it works: <SharePoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl PermissionsString="ManagePermissions" runat="server">     <div id="s4-ribbonrow" class="s4-pr s4-ribbonrowhidetitle">         <!-- Ribbon code appears here... -->     </div> </SharePoint:SPSecurityTrimmedControl> In your master page, find the SharePoint ribbon by looking for the line of code that begins with <div id=”s4-ribbonrow”>. Place the SPSecurityTrimmedControl code around your ribbon to conditionally hide it based on user permissions. In our example, we’ve hidden the ribbon from any user who doesn’t have the ManagePermissions ability, which is going to be almost any user short of a site administrator. Other Permission Levels You can specify different permission levels for the SPSecurityTrimmedControl, allowing you to configure exactly who can see the SharePoint 2010 ribbon. Basically, this control will hide anything inside of it when users don’t have the specified PermissionString. The available options include: 1. List Permissions - ManageLists - CancelCheckout - AddListItems - EditListItems - DeleteListItems - ViewListItems - ApproveItems - OpenItems - ViewVersionsDeleteVersions - CreateAlerts - ViewFormPages 2. Site Permissions - ManagePermissions - ViewUsageData - ManageSubwebs - ManageWeb - AddAndCustomizePages - ApplyThemeAndBorder - ApplyStyleSheets - CreateGroups - BrowseDirectories - CreateSSCSite - ViewPages - EnumeratePermissions - BrowseUserInfo - ManageAlerts - UseRemoteAPIs - UseClientIntegration - Open - EditMyUserInfo 3. Personal Permissions - ManagePersonalViews - AddDelPrivateWebParts - UpdatePersonalWebParts You can use this control to hide anything in your master page or on related page layouts, so be sure to keep it in mind when you’re trying to hide/show things conditionally based on user permission. The One Catch You may notice that the login control (or welcome control) is actually inside the ribbon by default in SharePoint 2010. You’ll probably want to pull this control out of the ribbon and place it elsewhere on your page. Just look for the line of code that looks like this: <wssuc:Welcome id="IdWelcome" runat="server" EnableViewState=”false”/> Move this code out of the ribbon and into another location within your master page. Save your changes, check in and approve all files, and anonymous users will never know your site is built on SharePoint 2010!

• Rights Expiry Options in IRM 11g

  Among the many enhancements in IRM 11g, we have introduced a couple of new rights expiry options that may be applied to any role. These options were supported in previous versions, but fell into the "advanced configuration" category. In 11g, the options can be applied simply by selecting a check-box in the properties of a role, as shown by the rather extreme example below, where the role allows access for just two minutes after they are sealed. The new options are: To define a role that expires automatically some period after it is assigned To define a role that evaluates expiry relative to the time that each document is sealed These options supplement the familiar options to allow open-ended access (limited by offline access and the ever-present option to revoke rights at any time) and the option to define time windows with specific start dates and end dates. The value of these options is easiest to illustrate with some publishing examples: You might define a role with a one year expiry to be assigned to users who purchase a one year subscription. For each individual user, the year would be calculated from the time that the role was assigned to them. You might define a role that allows documents to be accessed only for 24 hours from the time that they are published - perhaps as a preview mechanism designed to tempt users to sign up for a full subscription. Upon payment of a full fee, users can simply be reassigned a role that gives them greater access to exactly the same documents. In a corporate environment, you might use such roles for fixed term contractors or for workflows that involve information with a short lifespan, or perhaps as part of a compliance process that requires rights to be formally re-approved at intervals. Being role-based, the time constraints apply to any number of documents - including documents that have not yet been created. For example, a user with a one year subscription would have access to all documents published in the relevant classification during the year without any further configuration. Crucially, unlike other solutions, it is not the documents that expire, but the rights of particular users. Whereas some solutions make documents completely inaccessible for all users after expiry, Oracle IRM can allow some users to continue using documents while other users lose access. Equally crucially, a user whose rights have expired can always be granted fresh rights at any time - for example, because they renew their subscription or because a manager confirms that they still need the rights as part of a corporate compliance process. By applying expiry to rights rather than to documents, Oracle IRM avoids the risk of locking an organization out of its own information.

• SQL SERVER – DVM sys.dm_os_sys_info Column Name Changed in SQL Server 2012

  Have you ever faced situation where something does not work and when you try to go and fix it – you like fixing it and started to appreciate the breaking changes. Well, this is exactly I felt yesterday. Before I begin my story of yesterday I want to state it candidly that I do not encourage anybody to use * in the SELECT statement. One of the my DBA friend who always used my performance tuning script yesterday sent me email asking following question - “Every time I want to retrieve OS related information in SQL Server – I used DMV sys.dm_os_sys_info. I just upgraded my SQL Server edition from 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 RC0 and it suddenly stopped working. Well, this is not the production server so the issue is not big yet but eventually I need to resolve this error. Any suggestion?” The funny thing was original email was very long but it did not talk about what is the exact error beside the query is not working. I think this is the disadvantage of being too friendly on email sometime. Well, never the less, I quickly looked at the DMV on my SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 RC0 version. To my surprise I found out that there were few columns which are renamed in SQL Server 2012 RC0. Usually when people see breaking changes they do not like it but when I see these changes I was happy as new names were meaningful and additionally their new conversion is much more practical and useful. Here are the columns previous names - Previous Column Name New Column Name physical_memory_in_bytes physical_memory_kb bpool_commit_target committed_target_kb bpool_visible visible_target_kb virtual_memory_in_bytes virtual_memory_kb bpool_commited committed_kb If you read it carefully you will notice that new columns now display few results in the KB whereas earlier result was in bytes. When I see the results in bytes I always get confused as I could not guess what exactly it will convert to. I like to see results in kb and I am glad that new columns are now displaying the results in the kb. I sent the details of the new columns to my friend and ask him to check the columns used in application. From my comment he quickly realized why he was facing error and fixed it immediately. Overall – all was well at the end and I learned something new. • Ranking Part III

All rights reserved   Ranking Part III In a previous blogs “Ranking an Introduction” and  “Ranking Part II” , you have already praised me in “Rank the Author” and learned how to create a new element on a page and how to place it where you need it. For this installment, I just added code to keep the number of votes (you vote by clicking one of the stars) and the total vote. Using these two, we can compute the average rating. It’s a small step, but its purpose is to show that we do not need a detailed history in order to compute the average. A running total is sufficient. Please note that once you close the game, you will lose your previous total. In real life, we persist the totals in the list itself. We also keep a list of actual votes, but its purpose is to prevent double votes. If a person has already voted, his user id is already on the list and our program will check for it and bar the person from voting again. This is coded in an event receiver, which is a SharePoint server piece of code. I will show you how to do this part in a subsequent blog. Again, go to the page and look at the code. • Not Dead, Just Busy

  So I didn’t die in a freak smelting accident yet, but I have been dealing with a lot of different things.  I had to take a bit of a break to deal with the cat death issue.  I am not fully recovered, because well it just happened a few months ago.  It kind of sucked.  Plus the apartment feels a lot bigger. Then you have the whole New York Comic Con thing where I had to plan some cosplay costumes.  I have been trying to find time to hang out with friends and have a social life.  That plus I built an entire presentation for iOS development for New York Code Camp.  I am also planning a couple MS Community dinners (namely one a week from Tuesday) plus a give camp.  I am also planning a vacation around SPS UK plus I will be at SPC.  Life is just incredibly hectic and when you factor in dating to the mix it’s gotten insane to the point where some day I just have to go dark.  Hence the lack of blogging.  I am just trying to keep up with everything and everyone without losing myself. If you guys will be at SPC or SPS UK I will be at both places this year.  Stop by the Planet Technologies booth and see me or I’ll be around somewhere.  I am really sorry if I don’t remember you from an event or if you are someone following me on twitter.  I am trying to get better at the mnemonic memory devices, but I think things broke down around the 47th event I attended or spoke at or something to that nature.  If anyone wants to talk to Cathy, Lori, or I about Women in SharePoint definitely find us at the event.  Anyway good night and good luck guys.  I promise to check back at least once before the year ends.  In the meantime twitter stalking is always possible.  Sometimes I even respond back. • Search and Browse Database Objects with Oracle SQL Developer

  I was tempted to throw in another Dora the Explorer Map reference here, but I came to my senses.Having trouble finding something? Maybe you’re just getting older? I know I am. But still, it’d be nice if my favorite database tool could help me out a bit. Hmmm, what’s this ‘Find Database Object‘ thing over here…sounds like a search mechanism of some sort? You can access this panel from the ‘View‘ menu. It’s a good bit down the screen, so I don’t blame you if you haven’t seen it before. It makes finding ‘stuff’ in your database so much easier. Let’s say I want to find my ‘beer’ objects. I simply need to type my search string and the context (in this case I want it to search EVERYTHING), and hit enter. The search results are listed below and clicking on an object automatically opens it! I know it seems very simple, but I get asked this question a LOT. It will even search through your PL/SQL code! Finding too much? Be sure to toggle off the ‘%’ wildcard check box before doing a search. Working on a Project? I bet you use common column names, or codes, throughout your tables. You could take advantage of this knowledge and use the Find Database Object panel as a substitute connection tree or schema browser. Working on your HR project and want to look at your employee objects? Do a column search for your column ID/key. Sometimes thinking outside the box actually works! Don’t be afraid to tackle a problem from a weird angle, or re-purpose your tools. I do it all the time And I drive the developers nuts trying to do things with the tools they were never designed to do. But I digress. Back to your coding!

• The Niantic Project: Ingress by Felicia Hajra-Lee

  Despite the current fact that the augmented reality game for Android is still in beta phase, it is amazing to see that the world of literature is already taking momentum on this 'real-life' universe. After reading 'The Alignment: Ingress' by Thomas Greanias it took only a blink of the eye to go for 'The Niantic Project: Ingress' by Felicia Hajra-Lee, too. Here is the review I posted on Amazon.com: Ingress, a parallel universe to our reality, is here. There is no doubt about this anymore... The Niantic Project, originated at the CERN collider in Geneva, Switzerland, got into focus of global players. And the game is hard; fair-play is only for the fainted ones. Felicia understands to drag the audience directly into the action of the Niantic Project and its protagonists. The novella is heavily based on the investigations posted daily on the website of Ingress. She really understands how to interweave the various clues and creates an atmosphere where it sometimes feels challenging to differentiate between fiction and reality. It all starts with 'Epiphany Night' at the Niantic Labs, the high exposure of Exotic Matter (XM) and the escape of scientist Dr. Devra Bogdanovich and 'sentinel' Roland Jarvis. Of course, a new research, or should we name it technology, like the Niantic Project has to be protected and there are multiple parties on the hunt. Throughout the various chapters Felicia introduces new potential buyers from all over the globe, gives us detailed insights on the hunters and their brutal effectiveness to finish an assignment, and manages to keep the reader in high-pitched mode thanks to a couple of turn-arounds in the overall story. Personally, I have to say that I really enjoyed reading this title. Felicia's love to details is absolutely amazing, and sometimes I was really wondering whether she would be one of the assassins. But unfortunately I also have to say that I'm not a great fan of the structural organization of the (title-less) chapters. It is fascinating to follow the ventures of Devra, Farlowe and 855 but occasionally I had to go back to previous paragraphs in order to keep track of the individual plots. Overall a great title, captivating and rich in details but simply too short. Please Fecilia, gives us more to read. As an owner of an Android smartphone or tablet, you should get yourself into the world of Ingress. Check out the Play Store to install the app. Now. ;-)

• Microsoft Desktop Player is a Valuable Tool for IT Pro’s

  If you are an IT Professional, a new education tool introduced by Microsoft is the MS Desktop Player. Today we take a look at what it has to offer, from Webcasts, White Papers, Training Videos, and more. Microsoft Desktop Player You can run the player from the website (shown here) or download the application for use on your local machine (link below). It allows you to easily access MS training and information in a central interface. To get the Desktop version, download the .msi file from the site… And run through the installer…   When you first start out, enter in if you’re an IT Pro, Developer and your role. Then you can decide on the resources you’re looking for such as Exchange Server, SharePoint, Windows 7, Security…etc. Here is an example of checking out a Podcast on Office 2007 setup and configuration from TechNet radio. Under Settings you can customize your search results and local resources. This helps you narrow down pertinent information for your needs. If you find something you really like, hover the pointer over the screen and you can add it to your library, share it, send feedback, and check for additional resources. If you don’t need items in your library they can be easily deleted. Under the News tab you get previews of Microsoft news items, clicking on it will open the full article in a separate browser. While you’re watching a presentation you can show or hide the details related to it. Conclusion Microsoft Desktop Player is currently in Beta, but has a lot of cool features to offer for your learning needs. You can easily find Podcasts, Webcasts, and more without having to browse all over the place. In our experience we didn’t notice any bugs, and what it offers so far works well. • A* navigational mesh path finding

  So I've been making this top down 2D java game in this framework called Greenfoot [1] and I've been working on the AI for the guys you are gonna fight. I want them to be able to move around the world realistically so I soon realized, amongst a couple of other things, I would need some kind of pathfinding. I have made two A* prototypes. One is grid based and then I made one that works with waypoints so now I need to work out a way to get from a 2d "map" of the obstacles/buildings to a graph of nodes that I can make a path from. The actual pathfinding seems fine, just my open and closed lists could use a more efficient data structure, but I'll get to that if and when I need to. I intend to use a navigational mesh for all the reasons out lined in this post on ai-blog.net [2]. However, the problem I have faced is that what A* thinks is the shortest path from the polygon centres/edges is not necessarily the shortest path if you travel through any part of the node. To get a better idea you can see the question I asked on stackoverflow [3]. I got a good answer concerning a visibility graph. I have since purchased the book (Computational Geometry: Algorithms and Applications [4]) and read further into the topic, however I am still in favour of a navigational mesh (See "Managing Complexity" [5] from Amit’s Notes about Path-Finding [6]). (As a side note, maybe I could possibly use Theta* to convert multiple waypoints into one straight line if the first and last are not obscured. Or each time I move back check to the waypoint before last to see if I can go straight from that to this) So basically what I want is a navigational mesh where once I have put it through a funnel algorithm (e.g. this one from Digesting Duck [7]) I will get the true shortest path, rather than get one that is the shortest path following node to node only, but not the actual shortest given that you can go through some polygons and skip nodes/edges. Oh and I also want to know how you suggest storing the information concerning the polygons. For the waypoint prototype example I made I just had each node as an object and stored a list of all the other nodes you could travel to from that node, I'm guessing that won't work with polygons? and how to I tell if a polygon is open/traversable or if it is a solid object? How do I store which nodes make up the polygon? • Generate DROP statements for all extended properties

  This evening I have been attempting to migrate an existing on-premise database to SQL Azure using the wizard that is built-in to SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS). When I did so I received the following error: The following objects are not supported = [MS_Description] = Extended Property Evidently databases containing extended properties can not be migrated using this particular wizard so I set about removing all of the extended properties – unfortunately there were over a thousand of them so I needed a better way than simply deleting each and every one of them manually. I found a couple of resources online that went some way toward this: Drop all extended properties in a MSSQL database by Angelo Hongens Modifying and deleting extended properties by Adam Aspin Unfortunately neither provided a script that exactly suited my needs. Angelo’s covered extended properties on tables and columns however I had other objects that had extended properties on them. Adam’s looked more complete but when I ran it I got an error: Msg 468, Level 16, State 9, Line 78 Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "Latin1_General_100_CS_AS" and "Latin1_General_CI_AS" in the equal to operation. So, both great resources but I wasn’t able to use either on their own to get rid of all of my extended properties. Hence, I combined the excellent work that Angelo and Adam had provided in order to manufacture my own script which did successfully manage to generate calls to sp_dropextendedproperty for all of my extended properties. If you think you might be able to make use of such a script then feel free to download it from https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx?cid=550f681dad532637&resid=550F681DAD532637!16707&parid=550F681DAD532637!16706&authkey=!APxPIQCatzC7BQ8. This script will remove extended properties on tables, columns, check constraints, default constraints, views, sprocs, foreign keys, primary keys, table triggers, UDF parameters, sproc parameters, databases, schemas, database files and filegroups. If you have any object types with extended properties on them that are not in that list then consult Adam’s aforementioned article – it should prove very useful. • VSDB to SSDT part 4 : Redistributable database deployment package with SqlPackage.exe

  The goal here is to use SSDT SqlPackage to deploy the output of a Visual Studio 2012 Database project… a bit in the same fashion that was detailed here : http://geekswithblogs.net/80n/archive/2012/09/12/vsdb-to-ssdt-part-3--command-line-deployment-with-sqlpackage.exe.aspx   The difference is we want to do it on an environment where Visual Studio 2012 and SSDT are not installed. This might be the case of your Production server.   Package structure So, to get started you need to create a folder named “DeploymentSSDTRedistributable”. This folder will have the following structure :         The dacpac and dll files are the outputs of your Visual Studio 2012 Database project. If your database project references another database project, you need to put their dacpac and dll here too, otherwise deployment will not work. The publish.xml file is the publish configuration suitable for your target environment. It holds connexion strings, SQLVARS parameters and deployment options. Review it carefully. The SqlDacRuntime folder (an arbitrary chosen name) will hold the SqlPackage executable and supporting libraries   Contents of the SqlDacRuntime folder Here is what you need to put in the SqlDacRuntime folder  :      You will be able to find these files in the following locations, on a machine with Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate installed : C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DAC\bin : SqlPackage.exe Microsoft.Data.Tools.Schema.Sql.dll  Microsoft.Data.Tools.Utilities.dll Microsoft.SqlServer.Dac.dll C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly\GAC_MSIL\Microsoft.SqlServer.TransactSql.ScriptDom\v4.0_11.0.0.0__89845dcd8080cc91 Microsoft.SqlServer.TransactSql.ScriptDom.dll   Deploying   Now take your DeploymentSSDTRedistributable deployment package to your remote machine. In a standard command window, place yourself inside the DeploymentSSDTRedistributable  folder.   You can first perform a check of what will be updated in the target database. The DeployReport task of SqlPackage.exe will help you do that. The following command will output an xml of the changes:   "SqlDacRuntime/SqlPackage.exe" /Action:DeployReport /SourceFile:./Our.Database.dacpac /Profile:./Release.publish.xml /OutputPath:./ChangesToDeploy.xml      You might get some warnings on Log and Data file like I did. You can ignore them. Also, the tool is warning about data loss when removing a column from a table. By default, the publish.xml options will prevent you from deploying when data loss is occuring (see the BlockOnPossibleDataLoss inside the publish.xml file). Before actual deployment, take time to carefully review the changes to be applied in the ChangesToDeploy.xml file.    When you are satisfied, you can deploy your changes with the following command : "SqlDacRuntime/SqlPackage.exe" /Action:Publish /SourceFile:./Our.Database.dacpac /Profile:./Release.publish.xml   Et voilà !  Your dacpac file has been deployed to your database. • Unable to update/ install any files [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: “Problem with MergeList” error when trying to do an update Just now I installed ubuntu 12.04 on my Lenovo G570 laptop. First I got an error at the time of installation (don't know about it) and I restarted the system and next time, it went well. So, after installing problems started.. There was a error with "Language recognition" and I tried to fix it but didn't work. I tried to install powerTop to check the status of power management. at terminal: sudo apt-get install powertop This is the error I got surya@surya-Lenovo-G570:~$ sudo apt-get powertop install [sudo] password for surya: E: Invalid operation powertop surya@surya-Lenovo-G570:~$ sudo apt-get install powertop Reading package lists... When I press Ctrl + C; its showing ^C on terminal but its not working.. The most important error: I am unable to see a "chip" icon on the status bar so as to install proprietary drivers for my ATI drivers... The interesting part is, powertop worked will on live cd and it even detected my ATI card. Update When I opened "Software Up to Date", this showed a error: Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, E:Problem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/extras.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_main_binary-i386_Packages, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.' : My laptop details Lenovo G570; Intel 2nd Gen i5 processor 4GB DDR3 RAM Intel in-build graphics + AMD Radeon HD 6370M 1GB graphics.   Alright, these steps might be a little detailed and of few might not be necessary but still it's a pretty accurate road map to deploying on azure...     1)     Open you solution 2)      Rebuild ALL 3)      Right click on your Azure project and click "Publish" 4)      It should open a windows explorer window with your package to be uploaded (.cspkg ) and its associated configuration (.cscfg) to be uploaded too.  Keep it open, you'll need that path later on... 5)      It should also open a browser asking you to login to your passport account, please do so. 6)      After this you will be redirected to the Azure Portal where you will see your Azure Project Name below the « Projet Name » section.  Click on it. 7)      Then you should be redirected to a detailed view of your account on Azure where you will create a new service by clicking the hyperlink on the top right corner. 8)      Choose the right service type for you, most likely the "Hosted Service" type 9)      Choose a « Label » name and click « next » 10)   Choose a name for your service and validate that the name is available in the cloud by clicking the "Check Availability" button 11)   At the bottom of this same page, you can choose to create a group for your service, use no group or join an existing group.  Creating a group means that all applications that belong to the same group will see no cost to exchanging data between other applications of the same group.  Most of the time when you create a single application, creating a group is not necessary.  You should choose a region that's close to your own region. 12)   On the next window, you should see a "Production" environment and a "Staging" environment.  Beware because "Staging" and "Production" are two different environments in the cloud and applications in "Staging" even when not runing do continue to rack in charges...  Choose an environment and click "Deploy". 13)   In the following window, browse to the path where your cspkg resides and then do the same thing with your cscfg file.  Choose a name for your Label,  and click "Deploy"... 14)   From now on, the clock is ticking and unless you have free Azure hours, your credit card is being billed… 15)   Click on the « Run » button to start your application 16)   Be patient.... be very patient… 17)   Once your application has finished starting, you should see a GREEN circle on the left side of the screen indicating that your application is READY.  Click the URL to test your application and remember that if your application is a service, you have to hit the "svc" class behind the link you see there.  Something in the likes of http://testvince2.cloudapp.net/service1.svc  (this is a fictional link) 18)   Hopefully your application will show up or in the case of a service, you will see your service's wsdl meaning that everything is working fine. • BAM Data Control in multiple ADF Faces Components

  As we know Oracle BAM data control instance sharing is not supported.When two or more ADF Faces components must display the same data, and are bound to the same Oracle BAM data control definition, we have to make sure that we wrap each ADF Faces component in an ADF task flow, and set the Data Control Scope to isolated. This blog will show a small sample to demonstrate this. In this sample we will create a Pie and Bar using same BAM DC, such that both components use same Data control but have isolated scope.This sample can be downloaded  fromSample1.zip Set-up: Create a BAM data control using employees DO (sample) Steps: Right click on View Controller project and select "New->ADF Task Flow" Check "Create Bounded Task Flow" and give some meaningful name (ex:EmpPieTF.xml ) to the TaskFlow(TF) and click on "OK"CreateTF.bmpFrom the "Components Palette", drag and drop "View" into the task flow diagram. Give a meaningful name to the view. Double Click and Click "Ok" for  "Create New JSF Page Fragment" From "Data Controls" drag and drop "Employees->Query"  into this jsff page as "Graph->Pie" (Pie: Sales_Number and Slices: Salesperson) Repeat step 1 through 4 for another Task Flow (ex: EmpBarTF). From "Data Controls" drag and drop "Employees->Query"  into this jsff page as "Graph->Bar" (Bars :Sales_Number and X-axis : Salesperson). Open the Taskflow created in step 2. In the Structure Pane, right click on "Task Flow Definition -EmpPieTF" Click "Insert inside Task Flow Definition - EmpPieTF -> ADF Task Flow -> Data Control Scope". Click "OK"TFDCScope.bmpFor the "Data Control Scope", In the Property Inspector ->General section, change data control scope from Shared to Isolated. Repeat step 8 through 11 for the 2nd Task flow created. Now create a new jspx page example: Main.jspxDrag and drop both the Task flows (ex: "EmpPieTF" and "EmpBarTF") as regions. Surround with panel components as needed.Run the page Main.jspxMainPage.bmpNow when the page runs although both components are created using same Data control the bindings are not shared and each component will have a separate instance of the data control.

• SQL SERVER – OLEDB – Link Server – Wait Type – Day 23 of 28

  When I decided to start writing about this wait type, the very first question that came to my mind was, “What does ‘OLEDB’ stand for?” A quick search on Wikipedia tells me that OLEDB means Object Linking and Embedding Database. (How many of you knew this?) Anyway, I found it very interesting that this wait type was in one of the top 10 wait types in many of the systems I have come across in my performance tuning experience. Books On-Line: ????OLEDB occurs when SQL Server calls the SQL Server Native Client OLE DB Provider. This wait type is not used for synchronization. Instead, it indicates the duration of calls to the OLE DB provider. OLEDB Explanation: This wait type primarily happens when Link Server or Remove Query has been executed. The most common case wherein this wait type is visible is during the execution of Linked Server. When SQL Server is retrieving data from the remote server, it uses OLEDB API to retrieve the data. It is possible that the remote system is not quick enough or the connection between them is not fast enough, leading SQL Server to wait for the result’s return from the remote (or external) server. This is the time OLEDB wait type occurs. Reducing OLEDB wait: Check the Link Server configuration. Checking Disk-Related Perfmon Counters Average Disk sec/Read (Consistent higher value than 4-8 millisecond is not good) Average Disk sec/Write (Consistent higher value than 4-8 millisecond is not good) Average Disk Read/Write Queue Length (Consistent higher value than benchmark is not good) At this point in time, I am not able to think of any more ways on reducing this wait type.
