• How to add video into a webpage for mobile web browsers.

  Our company is making a mobile version of our website. We have several product videos we want to show on the mobile version. When I try to use <a href="video.wmv">video</a> I get sound playing but a black screen on my htc incredible android os phone. I'm thinking that the video is playing but in a different browser window. I need it to display all in one window without having to switch to a different window. I tried the html embed tags and get no video or sound at all, from what I've read these tags are not very realiable cross browser. I also just tried the html5 video tags below. I get an icon identifying that it's a video file but it doesn't play. <video src="video.wmv" controls="controls"> your browser does not support the video tag </video> Is there a special format the video file needs to be in? Should I be using the href or embed tags, what other options do I have? If it helps to know, I'm using the mobile doctype on my webpages. Thanks

• Shape object in Processing, translate individual shapes.

  I am relatively new to Processing but have been working in Java for about 2 years now. I am facing difficulty though with the translate() function for objects as well as objects in general in processing. I went through the examples and tried to replicate the manners by which they instantiated the objects but cannot seem to even get the shapes to appear on the screen no less move them. I instantiate the objects into an array using a nested for loop and expect a grid of the objects to be rendered. However, nothing at all is rendered. My nested for loop structure to instantiate the tiles: for(int i=0; i<102; i++){ for(int j=0; j<102; j++){ tiles[i][j]=new tile(i,0,j); tiles[i][j].display(); } } And the constructors for the tile class: tile(int x, int y, int z){ this.x=x; this.y=y; this.z=z; beginShape(); vertex(x,y,z); vertex(x+1,y,z); vertex(x+1,y,z-1); vertex(x,y,z-1); endShape(); } Nothing is rendered at all when this runs. Furthermore, if this is of any concern, my translations(movements) are done in a method I wrote for the tile class called move which simply calls translate. Is this the correct way? How should one approach this? I can't seem to understand at all how to render/create/translate individual objects/shapes. Thanks for any help any of you are able to provide!

• [iPhone] UIScrollView notifications

  Hi, I'm coding an app that works much like Apple's Weather.app: There's a UIPageControl at the bottom and a UIScrollView in the middle of the screen. In my code, I implemented the - (void)scrollViewDidEndDecelerating:(UIScrollView *)scrollView method to figure out when the user did move to a new page. If they move to a new page, I load the adjacent pages' data, as to make further page-switching faster. (In one of Apple's examples, the - (void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)sender is used, but that causes my app to shortly hang when loading a new page, so it's not suitable.) That code works very well. I'm using scrollRectToVisible:: to programmatically scroll inside the scrollview when the user clicks the UIPageControl. The problem is that the scrollRectToVisible: doesn't post a notification to the UIScrollViewDelegate when it's done scrolling - so the code responsible for loading adjacent pages never get's called when using the UIPageControl. Is there any way to make the UIScrollView notify its delegate when it gets called by the scrollRectToVisible: method? Or will I have to use threads in order to prevent my app from freezing? • Fast Lightweight Image Comparisson Metric Algorithm

  Hi All, I am developing an application for the Android platform which contains 1000+ image filters that have been 'evolved'. When a user selects a photo I want to present the most relevant filters first. This 'relevance' should be dependent on previous use cases. I have already developed tools that register when a filtered image is saved; this combination of filter and image can be seen as the training data for my system. The issue is that the comparison must occur between selecting an image and the next screen coming up. From a UI point of view I need the whole process to take less that 4 seconds; select an image- obtain a metric to use for similarity - check against use cases - return 6 closest matches. I figure with 4 seconds I can use animations and progress dialogs to keep the user happy. Due to platform contraints I am fairly limited in the computational expense of the algorithm. I have implemented a technique adapted from various online tutorials for running C code on the G1 and hence this language is available Specific Constraints; Qualcomm® MSM7201A™, 528 MHz Processor 320 x 480 Pixel bitmap in 32 bit ARGB ~ 2 seconds computational time for the native method to get the metric ~ 2 seconds to compare the metric of the current image with training data This is an academic project so all ideas are welcome, anything you can think of or have heard about would be of interest to me. My ideas; I want to keep the complexity down (O(n*m)?) by using pixel data only rather than a neighbourhood function I was looking at using the Colour historgram/Greyscale histogram/Texture/Entropy of the image, combining them to make the measure. There will be an obvious loss of information but I need the resultant metric to be substantially smaller than the memory footprint of the image (~0.512 MB) As I said, any ideas to direct my research would be fantastic. • How do I add and remove an event listener using a function with parameters?

  Sorry if this is a common question, but I couldn't find any answers that seemed pertinent through searching. If I attach an event listener like this: window.addEventListener('scroll', function() { check_pos(box); }, false); it doesn't seem to work to try to remove it later, like this: window.removeEventListener('scroll', function() { check_pos(box); }, false); I assume this is because the addEventListener and removeEventListener methods want a reference to the same function, while I've provided them with anonymous functions, which, while identical in code, are not literally the same. How can I change my code to get the call to removeEventListener to work? The "box" argument refers to the name of an <iframe> that I'm tracking on the screen; that is, I want to be able to subscribe to the scroll event once for each <iframe> that I have (the quantity varies), and once the check_pos() function measures a certain position, it will call another function and also remove the event listener to free up system resources. My hunch is that the solution will involve a closure and/or naming the anonymous function, but I'm not sure exactly what that looks like, and would appreciate a concrete example. • Emulator restarts after snapshot load

  I've set up a android emulator with a snapshot of a specific state i need to go back every time. the snapshot is created and is listed and i can also start directly with this snapshot with emulator -avd MyAVD -snapshot mystate -no-snapshot-save the problem is now that the emulator restart itselfs after i load the snapshot after i did my changes in the emulator. So if i use echo -e "avd snapshot load mystate\nexit" | nc localhost 5554 the snapshot is loaded correctly but then after some seconds i see the bootloader screen. Whats happening there? this phenomen is repeatable with different emulators and different snapshots. is it possible that i just misuse a feature here? edit: it seems this problem is only occuring when i load a snapshot multiple times. after starting the emulator, everything is working quite well. now i load my snapshot, also everything is working well. but when i now load the same snapshot again, it will correctly load it but then the emulator will restart. so is there any possibility to load a snapshot multiple times? otherwise i always need to restart my emulator, which takes a long time...

• How much should the AppDelegate do?

  I'm designing quite a large App and on startup it will create sessions with a few different servers. As they are creating a session which is used across all parts of the app its something I thought would be best in App Delegate. But the problem is I need the session progress to be represented on the screen. I plan to have a UIToolBar at the bottom of the main menu which I don't want to cover with the progress bar but cover the UIView above it.So the way I see it I could do it a few different ways. 1) Have the App Delegate establish the sessions and report the progress to the main menu class so it can represent it in the progress bar (will I have any issues doing this if the sessions are created in a separate thread?), 2) have the App delegate display the main menu (UIView with a bunch of buttons and UIToolBar) and have it track and display the progress (I have never displayed anything in the App Delegate but assume you can do this but its not recommended) or 3) have the App Delegate just push the main menu and have the mainMenu class create the sessions and display the progress bar. 4) I think the other way to do it is to create the sessions in a delegate class and have the delegate set to mainMenu rather than self (AppDelegate), although I've never used anything other then self so not sure if this will work or if I will be able to close the thread (through calling super maybe?) as its running in the AppDelegate rather than the delegate of the class. As I've kinda said before the sessions are being created in a class in a separate thread so it wont lock the UI and I think the best way is the first but am I going to have issues having it running in a separate thread, reporting back to the app delegate and then sending that message to the mainMenu view?   Hey there, What is the best way to get a number of property values of a business object from the View to the Presenter in a WebFormsMvp page? Here is what i propose: The scenario is, I have a business object called Quote which i would like to load form the database, edit and then save. The Quote class has heaps of properties on it. The form is concerned with about 20 of these properties. I have existing methods to load/save a Quote object to/from the database. I now need to wire this all together. So, in the View_Load handler on my presenter i intend to do something like this: public void View_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { View.Model.Quote = quoteService.Read(quoteId); } And then bind all my controls as follows: <asp:TextBox ID="TotalPriceTextBox" runat="server" Text="<%# Model.Quote.TotalPrice %>" /> All good, the data is on the screen. The user then makes a bunch of changes and hits a "Submit" button. Here is where I'm unsure. I create a class called QuoteEventArgs exposing the 20 properties the form is able to edit. When the View raises the Submit button's event, I set these properties to the values of the controls in the code behind. Then raise the event for the presenter to respond to. The presenter re-loads the Quote object from the database, sets all the properties and saves it to the database. Is this the right way to do this? If not, what is? Cheers, Andrej.

• Lookup site column not saving/storing metadata for Office 2007 documents?

  I'm having this issue on several server environments. We have a list at the site collection root. There is a site column created as a multi-value lookup on that list's Title field. This site column is used in document libraries in subsites as a required field. When we upload anything but an Office 2007 document, the user is presented with the document metadata fill-in screen (EditForm.aspx?Mode=Upload), the user fills in the appropriate data (including picking a value(s) for this lookup), and clicks "check in" - the document is checked in as expected, with the lookup field's value filled in. With an Office 2007 document, this fails. The user selected values for the lookup field do not ever make it to the server - no errors are thrown, but the field is not saved with the document. We have an event listener on these document libraries, and if we inspect the incoming SPListItem on the event listener method before a single line of our code has run, we see that the value for the lookup field is null. It smells like a SharePoint bug to me - but before I go calling Microsoft, has anyone seen this & worked around it? Edit: the only entry I see in the SP trace logs relating to the problem: CMS/Publishing/8ztg/Medium/Got List Item Version, but item was null

  I want to implement a simple 2 part FormWizard. My second form, I actually want no input. I just want to display a confirmation screen containing the credit card info, apple info, and money amounts (total, tax, shipping). Once user clicks OK, I want the apple purchase to commence. I was able to implement the single form way by passing in the request.user object in the kwargs. However, with the FormWizard, I cannot figure this out. Am I approaching the problem wrong and is the FormWizard not the proper way to do this? If it is, how can the Form __init__ method access the user object from the HTTP request?

• Displaying recntangles in game window with XNA

  I want to divide my game grid into an array of rectangles. Each rectangle is 40x40 and there are 14 rectangles in every column, with a total of 25 columns. This covers a game area of 560x1000. This is the code I have set up to make the first column of rectangles on the game grid: Rectangle[] gameTiles = new Rectangle[15]; for (int i = 0; i <= 15; i++) { gameTiles[i] = new Rectangle(0, i * 40, 40, 40); } I'm pretty sure this works, but of course I cannot confirm it because rectangles do not render on the screen for me to physically see them. What I would like to do for debugging purposes is to render a border, or fill the rectangle with color so I can see it on the game itself, just to make sure this works. Is there a way to make this happen? Or any relatively simple way I can just make sure that this works? Thank you very much.

• iPad: Detecting External Keyboard

  My app uses a UIAccessoryView to provide additional keyboard functionality (such as forward/backward tabs and arrows keys) for the virtual keyboard, but that causes UIKeyboardDidShowNotification to fire even when a physical keyboard is present (the accessory appears at the bottom of the screen). I'd like to check if a physical keyboard is attached when handling UIKeyboardWillShowNotification, to prevent the accessory view from appearing and to prevent my custom view from scrolling up (to make room for the non-existent virtual keyboard). I've tried examining the UIKeyboardFrameEndUserInfoKey key, but it returns a real size for the virtual keyboard, in spite of nothing being displayed. Is there any way to detect the presence of a physical keyboard to prevent this unwanted behaviour? Hmm, the plot thickens. I tried disabling the input accessory by returning nil from the inputAccessoryView property of the Responder object which triggers the keyboard. That suppresses UIKeyboardWillShowNotification and UIKeyboardDidShowNotification when there is a physical keyboard present, but keeps these notifications when there is no such keyboard. All good so far. Then I tried re-enabling inputAccessoryView only after UIKeyboardWillShowNotification had been received. This only fires when a virtual keyboard is needed, so it should allow me to reintroduce the accessory view in those circumstances. Or so I thought. Unfortunately, it seems the OS doesn't check inputAccessoryView after UIKeyboardWillShowNotification, so it fails to show the accessory view when it is needed :o( That leaves me with two options: Include the input accessory view, giving extra functionality for virtual keyboard users, but lose the ability to detect a physical keyboard and hence not supporting physical devices; or Exclude the input accessory altogether, preventing most users from accessing the extra keys, but allowing the app to work with a physical keyboard. Not a great choice, so I'm still keen to see if anyone else has addressed this problem!

• NSOperation for animation loop causes strange scrolling behaviour

  Hi, I've created an animation loop which I run as an operation in order to keep the rest of my interface responsive. Whilst almost there, there is still one remaining issue. My UIScrollViews don't seem to be reliably picking up when a user touch ends. What this means is, for example, if a user drags down on a scroll view, when they lift their fingers the scrollview doesn't bounce back into place and the scrollbar remains visible. As if the finger hasn't left the screen. It takes another tap on the scrollview for it to snap to its correct position and the scrollbar to fade away... • Modal dialog focus problems on WPF application

  Hi, I have a problem with my wpf application where a modal dialog will appear behind the main application causing it to hang. It is very inconsistent, where most of the time the pop-up works correctly and is shown in front but occasionally it will pop-up behind, which stops any interaction with it. I can still close the dialog using the taskbar if this happens. I have noticed that it generally occurs when lots of other applications are open and the taskbar is full. Also, I am working with two screens and the problem only occurs on the screen with the taskbar - very wierd! The dialog is a window control, which contains an injected usercontrol as it's data context. To set the owner of the window before calling ShowDialog(), the first active window in the application is used instead of Window.GetWindow(this): private static Window GetOwner() { if (Application.Current != null) { var owner = Application.Current.Windows.Cast().FirstOrDefault(w = w.IsActive); return owner ?? • Rails does not display error messages on a form in a custom method

  Hi all, I've created a custom method called checkout in my app. I create an order (which is done my adding products to my "cart"), assign it to my client, and then I head to my checkout screen where I confirm the items and enter their customer order number and complete the order (submit). Everything works great except that it doesn't display error messages. I'm able to display a flash error notice (seen in complete_order method) when things go wrong but it doesn't specify the details like a normal form would. The error messages should appear if the customer order number is not unique for that client. Below is the custom method (checkout) related code. • Registry remotley hacked win 7 need help tracking the perp

  I was writing some .VBS code at thhe office that would allow certain file extensions to be downloaded without a warning dialog on a w7x32 system. The system I was writing this on is in a lab on a segmented subnet. All web access is via a proxy server. The only means of accessing my machine is via the internet or from within the labs MSFT AD domain. While writing and testing my code I found a message of sorts. Upon refresing the registry to verify my code changed a dword, instead the message HELLO was written and visible in regedit where the dword value wass called for. I took a screen shot and proceeded to edit my code. This same weird behavior occurred last time I was writing registry code except on another internal server. I understand that remote registry access exists for windows systems. I will block this immediately once I return to the office. What I want to know is, can I trace who made this connection? How would I do this? I suspect the cause of this is the cause of other "odd" behaviors I'm experiencing at work such as losing control of my input director master control for over an hour and unchanged code that all of a sudden fails for no logical region. These failures occur at funny times, whenver I'm about to give a demonstration of my test code. I know this sounds crazy however knowledge of the registry component makes this believable. Once the registry can be accessed, the entire system is compromised. Any help or sanity checking is appreciated.

• Is Form validation and Business validation too much?

  I've got this question about form validation and business validation. I see a lot of frameworks that use some sort of form validation library. You submit some values and the library validates the values from the form. If not ok it will show some errors on you screen. If all goes to plan the values will be set into domain objects. Here the values will be or, better said, should validated (again). Most likely the same validation in the validation library. I know 2 PHP frameworks having this kind of construction Zend/Kohana. When I look at programming and some principles like Don't Repeat Yourself (DRY) and single responsibility principle (SRP) this isn't a good way. As you can see it validates twice. Why not create domain objects that do the actual validation. Example: Form with username and email form is submitted. Values of the username field and the email field will be populated in 2 different Domain objects: Username and Email class Username {} class Email {} These objects validate their data and if not valid throw an exception. Do you agree? What do you think about this aproach? Is there a better way to implement validations? I'm confused about a lot of frameworks/developers handling this stuff. Are they all wrong or am I missing a point? Edit: I know there should also be client side kind of validation. This is a different ballgame in my Opinion. If You have some comments on this and a way to deal with this kind of stuff, please provide.

  I have a schedule (Voyages) table like this: ID Arrival Departure OrderIndex 1 01/01/1753 02/10/2009 0 1 02/11/2009 02/15/2009 1 1 02/16/2009 02/19/2009 2 1 02/21/2009 01/01/1753 3 2 01/01/1753 03/01/2009 0 2 03/04/2009 03/07/2009 1 2 03/09/2009 01/01/1753 2 By design i save '01/01/1753' as a default value if the user doesn't fill a the field on the capture screen and for the very first Arrival and the very last Departure which are never provided. Im using Nhibernate and Criteria, and im wondering whats the best way to query this data if i want to know the First departure and last arrival for each voyage in the table. My first thought was a groupby (ID) and then do some Min and Max with the arrival and departure but the `'01/01/1753' VALUE is messing aronud. ... .SetProjection(Projections.ProjectionList() .Add(Projections.GroupProperty("ID"), "ID") .Add(Projections.Min("DepartureDate"), "DepartureDate") .Add(Projections.Max("ArrivalDate"), "ArrivalDate") ) ... So is there a way to skip this value in the Min function comparison (without losing the whole row of data), or there is a better way to do this, maybe utilizing the OrderIndex that always indicate the correct order of the elements, maybe ordering ASC taking the 1st and then Order DESC and taking the 1 st again, but im not quite sure how to do that with criteria syntax.

  Hi... I'm creating a web form, where in there are around 12-15 Input Fields... You can have a look at the screen and The request is such that depending on the data the user selects in the Gridview and the DropDown list, the appropriate Textboxes and CheckBoxes needs to be displayed. Some times the conditions are very direct, like when the DDL value is "ABC", get only paid amount from the user. Sometime they are so complex like... IF DDL is "DEF" and Selected GPMS value is between 1000-2000, calculate the values of allowed, paid etc (using some formula) and the focus should be directed to Page No Field, leaving the other fields open incase user wants to edit... There are around 10-15 conditions like this. As this was done through agile, conditions were being added as and when, and wherever it feels appropriate (DDL on change Event, GridView on selecting change event etc... etc..) After completion, now I see the code has become a big chuck, is growing unmanageably... Now, I'm planning to clear this... From you experience, what you think is the best way to handle this. There is a possibility to add more conditions like this in future... Please let me know, incase you need more information. I'm currently developing this app in C# .Net WindowsForms Edit: Currently there are only three items (The Datagrid, the DDL, the OverrideAmt CheckBox) that change the way other fields behave... Almost all of the conditions will fall between the two situations I mentioned... Mostly they belong to "Enabling/Disabling".. "Setting of Values"... and "Changing Focus" or any combination of these.

• Changing the parameters of a Javascript function using GreaseMonkey

  There are a lot of questions here about Greasemonkey, but I didn't see anything directly related to my question. I'm on a website that uses a text editor control, and it's really annoying that they don't allow horizontal resizing (only vertical). So if you are using a cheapo projector that only supports 1024x768, the text runs off of the screen and there's nothing you can do about it. I looked at the page source, and found the section of code that I want Greasemonkey to modify: <script type="text/javascript"> // TinyMCE instance type: CD_TinyMCE tinyMCE.init({ convert_urls : "", mode : "specific_textareas", editor_selector : "rte", theme : "advanced", theme_advanced_toolbar_location : "top", theme_advanced_toolbar_align : "left", theme_advanced_statusbar_location : "bottom", theme_advanced_resizing : true, **theme_advanced_resize_horizontal : false**, ... I just want to change the boldfaced value to true. I tried to approach this the brute force way and replace the text this way: function allowHorizontalResize() { var search_string = "theme_advanced_resize_horizontal : false"; var replace_string = "theme_advanced_resize_horizontal : true"; var doc_text = document.body.innerHTML; document.body.innerHTML = doc_text.replace( search_string, replace_string); } ...but it doesn't work. However, I know the basic search and replace part works because I can use this script to replace text within the editor -- I just can't change the javascript code that initializes the text editor. Can someone explain what I'm doing wrong? Is this even possible?

When I execute the program, nothing is drawn. • Redirect parent of a page from a cfwindow

  Hi All, I have a page with cfwindow that require the user to be logged in to view the content on the page. The problem at the moment is if the user logs into the site, then does nothing and the session times out, I have no way that I can think of to redirect the parent of the window to the login screen when the user opens it. So far I have tried using cflocation but that has no way of specifying the container that should be redirected (i.e. the page in the window is being redirected but not the windows parent). I have also thought about using a hidden input with a value based on the session which is then check with Body onLoad event but currently this doesnt work with how the pages have been setup. The last option I have is to check the session variable on loading the window and then closing it if the user is not logged in, which will cause the parent to refresh and redirect to login anyway. However I cant find a way to close a cfwindow without using javascript. Thanks for any help you can give.

• Handling data update/freshness issue in web-app in general (or GWT specifically)

  In general, how do you guys handle user update/data freshness interaction with the user (UI issue) in web-apps? For example: Multi-users web-app (like project management) Login to a "virtual" space People can update project names, etc How to handle a situation such that: user-A and user-B load a project with title "Project StackOverflow" user-B updates the title to "Project StackExchange" user-A updates the title after user-B update operation to "Project Basecamp" The question I'm asking is from the user perspective (UI) and not about transactional operation. What do most people do in this situation? What would you do after user-B updates the title in user-A screen/view? What happened when user-A tries to update the title after user-B finished his/her update operation? do you inform user-A that the title has changed and he/she has to reload the page? do you go ahead and change the title and let user-B has old data? Do you do some sort of application-level "locking" mechanism? (if someone is updating, nobody else can?) Or fix the application workflow? (who has the access to be able to change things, etc). What would be the simplest solution, but at the same time not annoy the user with more dialog/warning messages. I've encountered this particular problem frequently in a GWT app specifically where domain models are being passed around and refreshing the whole app/client-side isn't the optimal solution in my mind (since it means the whole "loading"/initialization phase must be executed again in this specific environment). Maybe the answer is to stay away from GWT? :) Love to hear options, solutions, and advises from you guys. Thanks
